Where is SYSTEM PREFERENCES in Safari for PC?  Want to protect my kids!

The advertisement for Safari states:
"*Parental Controls: Approved List*
You can create an approved list of websites that your children can visit by using Parental Controls in System Preferences. Select an account, click Content, and select “Allow access to only these websites.” A child logging in to the Mac using that account will be able to access the sites you list. If a child wants to access a site that’s not on the list, Safari will ask for the administrator (rather than the account) password."
...but I don't see any of that in the PC version that I just downloaded. Any help???

  • Where are system preferences documented?

Where are system preferences documented? I have posted a question on this forum from time to time, or read articles in MacWorld, and often the solution to this or that is to set a particular preference, for example NSToolTipsFontSize. Is there a central place where I can find all of these preferences documented, perhaps by category?
I tried looking in XCode Help with no luck, and a Google search didn't turn up anything either.

Not really. Most default settings are documented at http://secrets.blacktree.com/ Having the Secrets prefPane installed helps with learning about them. Alternatively, peruse the hits from a google search for *defaults site:developer.apple.com*.

  • I have HugesNet Gen4 and have downloaded most current version.  I am unable to open and cannot find where in system preferences and/or Safari I give permission.  Can a techie tell me where?

Because I downloaded from internet, I am unable to open.  I cannot find where I give permission and/or if I need to download some plug in or something.  Please help and thanks.

    Hello Charlene,
It sounds like you are getting a message that the application you downloaded can't be opened because it's from an unidentified developer.
Gatekeeper is a feature of Mac OS X that by default blocks software from unknown developers, but you can change the functionality to download and install software from developers you trust:
Gatekeeper gives you more control over what you install. You can choose the safest option and only allow apps that come from the Mac App Store to open. There is also the option of only allowing apps that come from the Mac App Store and identified developers. Or you can choose to allow any apps to open, just like previous versions of OS X.
Gatekeeper options are found in Apple menu > System Preferences… > Security & Privacy > General tab under the header "Allow applications downloaded from:"
If you trust the source you are downloading the application from, you can switch the option to "Anywhere" to download the file.  Once you finish downloading the file, you can always switch back to one of the other options.

  • How to get back utilities, system preferences and safari

The utilities was lost in my iMac, and so did safari. Maybe my boy deleted them in mistake, he is interested in finding the secret of iMac since I bought it three months ago. I can't launch system preferences to change the setting of iMac, and thanks God, I can connect to internet by firefox. How can I get back utilities and safari? Do I need to reload the OS X 10.4.4 then update to 10.4.9 again?

Your entire Utilities folder and/or its contents was deleted?
If so, I suggest performing an Archive & Install selecting preserve user and network settings. If not and you don't know exactly what your boy deleted (have you checked the Trash?), performing an A&I will take care of everything known or unknown at once.
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/archiveinstall.html
Now is also a good time to create a backup - preferably a bootable clone backup of your entire hard drive saved to an external firewire drive used for backup purposes only.
And I also suggest creating a computer login account for your boy WITHOUT admin privileges and disable automatic login for your admin account which will require manually entering your log in password for your admin account during a computer startup, restart and with Fast User Switching.
Before stepping away from your Mac or whenever it will be used by anyone that is unattended by you, log out from your account.
Keep the install package for your Mac in a safe place but in a location that is not known by your boy.

  • HELP: System Preferences and Safari deleted

my sister accidentally deleted System Preferences. It's no longer in the /applications folder and won't launch from the dock or the apple menu. Is there a downloadable installer for that coz I no longer have the osx install disc.
the same thing happened with safari. My osx version was 10.5.4 so i installed 10.5.8 combo upgrade (700+ MB) thinking it would fix system prefs and safari but it didn't. I then tried installing Safari 4.0.1 but it said it's only for 10.5.7 -- ouch! So now i'm using Opera and Firefox.
i'm a vet in Windows and a total noob with OSX... please help.

my sister accidentally deleted System Preferences.
Don't let her use an admin account from now on. Make her a separate account to use, and don't give it admin privileges.
It's no longer in the /applications folder and won't launch from the dock or the apple menu.
Have you tried searching? Maybe she just accidentally dragged it into a different folder. If Spotlight (the built-in search) can't find it, try downloading [EasyFind|http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/index.html]. Spotlight won't search everywhere, EasyFind will (but slower).
Is there a downloadable installer for that coz I no longer have the osx install disc.
No, there isn't. You're going to need that install disk. Apple will replace it for a small fee if you can't find it.
Once you have an appropriate disk, you can use [Pacifist|http://www.charlessoft.com> to re-install specific things.

  • Check bubble not showing up in system preferences and safari

Ever since I have upgraded to Snow Leopard on my new macbook pro I cannot see the check bubble that should be on some websites and in finder such as this example in system preferences:
    http://img8.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20091109at554.png/
there should be two bubbles next to each power option, the bubbles look like this:
    http://img121.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20091109at555.png/
When I use firefox everything is fine, but is there a way to get it to work throughout my computer?, thanks.

I don't know what you think is missing. The screen shot you posted looks fine except for the buttons on the toolbar. If you still think that there is something missing, then I would guess it has to do with whatever you used to change the buttons in the toolbar.
Edit: I don't have the options at the top; is that where you should see something? Regardless, I go back to blaming whatever you've loaded that is affecting the buttons.

  • Where does system preferences reside?

    Hi there,
I am trying to locate the actual coding of system preferences. Does anybody know where it is? I have looked under system and library but not able to find it.
    thanks for your help
    m

I assume you mean the location of the preference pane files. I'm not sure what you mean by "coding." If you're looking for system preferences and where they're stored, the answer depends on what preference you're looking for. Most can be found in your user library: /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Preferences
The panes themselves are located in:
    Macintosh HD/System/Library/PreferencePanes
You may also have user-specific preference panes installed. Those reside in: /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/PreferencePanes

  • System Preferences and Safari issues

Hi I have a very concerning issue with system preferences and a smaller issue with Safari (7.0).  When I open system preferences and navigate to the "internet accounts" page and try to remove an account or click the "Advanced" button, nothing happens.  I see a faint flicker of the system prefs window but nothing changes.  Another example is when I click on the "networks" page and try and open the "Advanced" window, nothing happens. I also can't sign out of iCloud or view my iCloud account information the buttons seem to do nothing.  I've already tried installing mavericks again, deleting appropriate plists, resetting PRAM/NVRAM, repairing the disk and repairing disk permissions to no avail and I really need to find a solution.  If this helps, the guest account does not have any issues described above.  The safari issue is minor but when Safari opens, there is a gray box around the page title in the top bar of safari no matter what webpage im on.  I have tried resetting safari, deleting caches and extensions but nothing works.  I really appreciate any help with these issues.
Here is an example of the Safari issue.

Do you have the installer DVD? If you do:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the OS X Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • Where have System Preferences gone???

After re-installing the operating system, because it was no longer possible to log on to my iMac, suddenly there are no more system preferences. I select "System preferences" in the Apple menu and nothing happens.
Any ideas what to do or try to get access to system preferences back?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Hi Michael!
Is System Preferences still in your Applications folder?
Does it appear in the Dock?
Computer > HD > Applications: HERE?
In Another Of Your Posts, your computer specs state that you are running iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.3.5).
This post states iMac G4 Mac OS X (10.2.x).
What type of install did you do, to go from 10.3 to 10.2?
Is there a Previous System Folder on your HD?
When you discovered your Memory Problem, which OS X were you using?
Have you tested the new RAM?
Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm trying to lay some groundwork, to assist readers who may be able to help you.
When posting a question, it is best to divulge as much background info as possible.
All of your problems, seem to me, to be somehow related.

  • Where are System preferences- Keyboard- Text settings saved?

I am trying to find the Settings of my System preferences->Keyboard->Text on my drive. I deleted my whole user library, and after reloading i still find my settings in the pane( so my conclusion is they are not in the ~/Library location. Does anyone have any idea where these settings are saved on the hard drive?

    Hello Eric,
yes, restart is done after removing the user library. Still, the shortcuts are in the system preferences pane.
To explain why I'm after these files: I'm not trying to clear the settings, i'm actually trying to find the file, so i might safe/load them on different users.
My biggest bet did not work: ~/Library.
Is there any other location where I will find saves user settings?

  • System Preferences is asking for user password three times (?)

System Preferences>Startup Disk requires the user password to unlock the pane (per my security settings), I select my startup choice (my main HD), then upon re-locking the pane I am asked for the password two more times.
    ?

Then, don't relock the lock, just restart.

  • System preferences in iMac for sound output shows only headphones. How do I change this to get sound through computer? Thanks.

In sound System preferences on iMac  headphones is only option for sound output. How do I change this to get sound output through computer, as in a video etc. Thanks.

There is a switch in the jack that may be stuck. Try plugging and unplugging a headset plug into the socket a few times.
You might try dipping the headset plug into some pure alcohol, wiping it nearly dry, and repeating the process to clean/clear the socket.
