Where is the 17" MBP in the new product line?

I hope that Apple plans on making a 17" MBP with the new features, including the screen and thinner and lighter like the other sizes. Otherwise that will just suck!
15.4" is nice, but 17" screen is just that much better. With the higher resolution, it would be awesome.

The death of the 17inch form factor is not a good thing. I mean who cares about having high resolution if in order to read the text you need a magnifying glass because the screen is so much smaller. This will have such a crippling effect on me that not only will I have to look to a PC solution I also have to give up my my Apple Pro Apps like 'Final Cut Studio'.
The 17inch was the perfect pro level note book for running edit software and taking on location for downloading footage directly into the system via the express card slot. It was big enough to work off without the need to carry around an additional screen.
The 15 inch is just not useable without carrying a plethora of external accessories and even then working your with a smaller screen so not as much real estate. If I want to adjust the screen settings so I do have the same amount of real estate i can add the magnifying glass to the kit. Also no audio jack in. I guess you could take audio in via USB but only 2 ports by god what a laugh and what the **** is with no ethernet port Bwahahaha. surly they could have fit one of those in. I mean at present it's the fastest most stable means of connecting and now we're asked to buy a peripheral to make it happen. what a joke.
It's a real shame and i am extremely saddened by this move. In some small way i am still praying that a 17 inch will be released later down the line because i've been using the MBP since it was released and updated it every 2 years but I won't be buying a 15" as it just doesn't suit my needs. Also no update to the Mac Pro's in years and the fact that I will have to give up Apple Pro apps for AVID  as a result of this means I will be retiring most of my Apple machines. I guess Apple just no longer has an interest in the pro market so as far as i'm concerned, "so long Apple it's been nice knowing you"

  • Cannot reach the 450 mbps with the EA4500

    Hi!
I have a new EA4500 router and I cannot configure it to reach the 450 mbps that is supposed to get.
I have it configured as follows:
Dual Band- 2,4 and 5 GHz
    2,4 in 20MHz only - 5 GHz in 40 MHz only
    2,4 Mixed - 5 Ghz only N
    WPA2 personal in both
    Channel - automatic (both)
I have checked that the 5 Ghz network can only use 4 channels: 36, 40, 44, 48. Where are the channels up to 100 (or more)??
Is there anything I am missing to get all the power of the router??
    Thanks

The first thing that you need to consider is the router’s firmware, upgrade the router’s firmware if there’s a new update available. You also need to reset the router back to factory defaults just to refresh the router’s settings. You can also try to use other browser or better yet use another computer just to isolate the problem. If in case that there missing channels under the 40 MHz of the 5 GHz wireless network then you might need to consider returning that router and have it replaced.

  • The reason why ONLY the 17'' MBP and the 15'' 2.66 support 8GB RAM

Hi, I think I know why Apple is able to offer 8gb ram support on the revised 2.66 MBP and not on the 2.53 or 2.4 MBP.
    Take a look at this:
    15'' 2.4-2,53 NVDA Chipset
    http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/oEmmaxSOKDDvZfZh.large
    17'' NVDA Chipset
    http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.com/igi/SSLSgODWYbiIuTLL.large
There are TWO different revisions. The first is B2 and the latter is B3.
I think that the former does not support 8GB of RAM and the latter does. That explains why the 17'' has support and now the NEWs 15'' also have, Apple gave the 15'' not only a speed bump but also the newer revision of the chipset!
    Message was edited by: sjds

It is no longer possible to navigate to the 8GB page, but the direct link is still working:
    http://store.apple.com/us/memorymodel/ME15_2_66MBP
I called the Apple Store (1-800...) and was told that the max is still 4GB. Then I read the direct URL out to the sales rep and he was surprised to see the page. He put me on hold and when he returned he said he'd spoken to a sales engineer who said that it was untested and unsupported, but that this did not mean it would not work.
I'm not actually interested in buying 8GB of RAM right now, but I would like to have some confidence that if I buy a MBP now, that I will be able to upgrade later when memory prices come down.
My guess is that Mac OS X 10.5.7 will be released soon and at that point the specs will be updated to max 8GB supported.
    Fingers crossed!

  • Performance issue: Adding a new product line to existing Quote calls pricing engine for existing line a well

    Hi All,
I need some assistance for my below query...
If there are already existing some product/quote lines on the quote and then we try to add another new product/quote line to this quote , then  it is taking more time to add the product. As per my understanding it is calling the Pricing engine for the existing line as well. How can we avoid the pricing engine call for the existing lines.
There are some parameters which we are setting as mentioned below :
l_control_rec.header_pricing_event := 'BATCH' -- What does this mean when we set to batch
    l_control_rec.price_mode := 'ENTIRE_QUOTE'; -- (possible values could be CHANGE_LINES , QUOTE_LINE)
    l_header_rec.pricing_status_indicator := 'C';
    l_control_rec.calculate_freight_charge_flag := 'Y';
    l_control_rec.calculate_tax_flag := 'Y';
    l_header_rec.tax_status_indicator := 'C';
Question :Could someone please help us with this whether is there any way with these parameters could be altered or changed to some other value ( like for PRICE_MODE we see this parameter could have some other values like : CHANGE_LINES , QUOTE_LINE etc other than ENTIRE_QUOTE).
means lets say we do the Pricing Engine call only for the Newly Added quote line but not do it for the Entire Quote again and again..
Now the other question here could be how do we finally synch the line level price values for all the quote lines upto the Quote header level in form of Totals (TOTAL_LIST_PRICE,TOTAL_TAX, TOTAL_SHIPPING_CHARGE, SURCHARGE, TOTAL_QUOTE_PRICE in aso_quote_headers_all table) ??
Also is there a way that we don't do the Freight Charge calculation and Tax calculation (means we skip this completely) while adding products to the quote but do it at a later point when doing the Submit to Order functionality.
Could someone please help with these pricing related parameters and modes to be used in order to get around this performance issue
    Thanks

  • 10.6.7, the 2011 MBP, and the death of easy cloning....

I'm a photographer and whenever I've hit the road in the past, I'd clone my MacPro boot drive to an external, then boot my MacBookPro from the external, clone the external to the internal on the MBP and I'd be off, with an exact replica of my desktop machine, with all my apps, settings, email, etc.
Just got a 2011 MBP and tried this out with 10.6.6. It would not boot the MBP. After some research, I figured out that I needed to install from the MBP OS install DVD onto the external boot drive while it is attached to the MBP, then clone it over to the internal. This worked, but sucked up some major time to do the instal.
Now 10.6.7 is out, with different flavors for different machines. Seems if I install 10.6.7 on my Desktop and then clone to an external drive, I wont be able to run the 10.6.6 installer disk the came with my MBP.
According to this article: http://www.hardmac.com/news/2011/03/23/about-the-different-versions-mac-os-x-10- 6-7 I might wind up with some weird problems if I do.
Any suggestions out of this mess until 10.6.8 comes along and (maybe) fixes this?

Instead of cloning the whole boot volume, why not just copy your documents? You wouldn't want identical systems on a Mac Pro and a portable, even if it were possible.

  • What is the maximum MBPS for the AirPort Extreme 5th Generation?

I am considering the E4200 v2 and AirPort Extreme routers. Can any give me the pros & cons for each? Price is about the same with the E4200 v2 $20 more.

For an excellent review of the 5th Gen AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), I would recommend that you check out the following SmallNetBuilder article. They not only provide comprehensive data on testing the base station's performance. but they also do so for a number of other router manufacturer products, including the Cisco/Linksys E4200V2 that you are also interested in.

  • Emergency: How to best get the contents of a dead MBP onto a new iMAC?

Hi all, my emergency is all over the boards today : http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7661172#7661172
but thanks to a home delivery from the Nepali Apple store I may be back in business tonight with your help.
I have a TM backup of the dead mbp on a drive and a CCC clone on another. So the way I see it I have two options and I am wondering which one is best...to
    1) during the install of the new imac, choose "from TM backup drive" or whatever that option is, or
    2) Use the CCC clone to just clone over the imac system.
I understand, from expierence, that many software packages like Adobe need reactivation, but no problems there, I have all my original DVDs and serials.
The problems I remember from last time is preserving user settings and even the login account. I want everything to be the same (but they want ice water in **** too I suppose).
The emergency is that my biggest client is waiting on the FCP job which is now sitting on the dead mbp and the two backup drives. I am praying that the low -end 20" imac will run FCP/Motion and plugs. If it does I may pull this off by just telling the client I had to go away for the weekend:) thx...

Booting from the clone should get you "up and running" temporarily, though for the sake of preserving data I'd recommend other options first. Id start by trying the TM restore. If it fails you can always reinstall the OS "as it came" out of the box, and then try cloning the cloned backup back to the iMac. As a final resort, booting off the cloned disk would be the next option, but this will inevitably write files and such to the disk, which will alter it slightly (and most likely be perfectly fine, but there's always a chance for something to go wrong).
The iMac should run your programs fine, at about the same speed as the MBP.

  • Did the regular 15" MBP receive the upgraded fans?

OK, we all know that the regular 13" and 15" MBP's were upadted and are just as capable, acually other than the display they are more capable and more flexible machines than the Retina MBP.  The only thing that hasn't been talked about anywhere is the fans in the regular MBP's.
I bought my wife the late 2011 13" MBP 2.4GHz, 500GB (5400RPM) MBP and threw in 16GB of RAM to replace the 4GB that came in it, since it was cheap at OWC ($167).  When I get the updated 15" MBP with 2.6GHz, 512 SSD and 8GB of RAM, I will swap them out so that I have the 16GB RAM and she has the 8GB of RAM.  Another reason I wanted the 16GB of RAM is because I will be getting into Photoshop and a bit of video editinig for fun with all the videos and photos that I take and some gaming with D III and SC II.  So that's the plan so far.
    I'm torn at the moment between the 15" Retina and Non-Retina MBP.  I love the new disply but I'm torn that Apple decided to upgrade a display while loosing other features like the Ethernet Port and SuperDrive two things we are far from not needing altogether.  Although, Apple screens all around great and the Hi-Res on the regular will do fine, the Retina MBP is such a slick and powerful machine.  The money isn't a problem and I've configured both online and I'm looking at this below;
    15" MBP (non-Retina) $2,899.00
2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
    512GB Solid State Drive
    SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide (English)
    15" MBP (with Retina) $2,887.00
2.6GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
    512GB Flash Storage
    Apple USB SuperDrive
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide (English)
Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
There's only a $12 difference in my configurations and I already have the 16GB of RAM for the non-Retina if that's the one I get.  With the non-Retina I get all the connections with out all the extra cargo and fancy display.  Yeah Apple dropped the weight of the Retina but when you consider the fact that if you want the additional capabilites then you're carrying the weight around anyhow with the extra cord for ethernet and the SuperDrive, but you do not always need the either of the two anyhow.  Another thing is that you can't upgrade it after the fact but wth my configurations above I won't need to anyhow because the only thing that I'm not going with is the 768GB Flash Drive since I already have the 2TB Time Capsule for additional storage and it's where I keep most of my data anyhow other than my documents for school.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.  I know that I've done a good bit of thinking out loud here but it helps me put things in a better perspective.  I look forward to seeing your replies.

    Clinton,
Thanks for the input.  I've been on MacSales.com and if drop the SSD from Apple on the non-Retina the price drops to $2,089.00 from $2,899.00 which is almost 1K cheaper.  I can get an OWC 480GB SSD for as cheap as $579.  There are three versions though, 1. @ 3G/s with a 3 yr warranty for the price just mentioned, another at 6G/s @ $599 with a 3 yr warranty which would be the one to get, and the Pro at 6G/s @ $729 with a 5 yr warranty.  So even going with the most expensive OWC brand I could still make out about 100 bucks or so.  Not a bad call and I've already done research on puting the OS on a recovery drive so that I can install it on the new installed drive if I go that route.
Still not sure which I want to get.  I feel that I'm going to go with the relaibilty in the regular MBP though. I'm not sure about the new one yet. I'll keep reserching to pin down an answer.  I have time before I buy anyhow, I'm in no rush and plus it would take 3-4 weeks to get the Retina anyhow, so I'll just use the time wisely to get my duck in a row.
    Thanks again.

  • Is there a big difference with the SR MBPs?

ik have to option to buy (from apple) a refurbished macbookpro 17inch C2D at a great price.
i had almost decided on buying it for sure, when i realised it is the model before the santa rosa mbps.
    my question is:
are the santa rosa mbps allot less buggy, or allot faster, or anything significamt or should i go with the old one.?

I have the original MBP and the new one with the Santa Rosa chipset, both 15" models---the only differences I see are a longer time between battery charges, the capability to add up to 4 GB of memory as opposed to the 2 GB limit on the older one (or 3 GB for newer "older" ones), and a little cooler.
Overall, my two MBPs seem about the same in terms of performance (slight edge to the SR MBP), and the display looks the same to me, as well. Neither are or were ever "buggy"---the older one has been a pleasure to work on, and still is. The new one is just as nice.
You can read a longer comparison I made a few weeks ago here:

  • Does the 10.6.4 update fix the freezing issues with the i5 & i7 MBP's

Since I am on the fence about buying a new 15" MBP I would be interested to know what effect the new update has on the latest MBP's and the freezing issues some are experiencing.

The "freezes" that are mentioned in other threads here appear to be due to a wide variety of different issues. Looking at the relevant posts I'd reckon about one in thirty of them at the most are due to an unusual issue with a few of the current MBPs. The other 29 are simply the regular array of things that cause freezes on any computer - out of date software, corrupted directory structures, the migration of already corrupted software from older computers, duplicate or corrupted fonts, badly written third party software, the occasional shonky HD or RAM module, etc etc etc.
THis is a non-issue from what I can see. Some people may well benefit from updating to 10.6.4 , but probably only because it replaces some files that have been corrupted for other reasons in the past.
I certainly wouldn't be putting off getting a new MBP on the basis of the stuff here. Sure, some people will experience "freezes", but there doesn't really seem to me to be anything out of the ordinary being reported here with respect to the new MBPs. There are a thousand and one things that can lead to "freezes". In a few cases it probably is due to a hardware problem with one component or another. In the vast majority, however, it will simply be because of the common old "thousand and one shocks that silicon chips, magnetic storage and software developers are heir too"!
    Cheers

  • I am a student working on a project for school and I need to know the bandwidth options for the iPad mini with retina display

I am working on a project where I am required to introduce a new product for consideration in the hospital setting.  I have chosen the iPad mini, and have been able to locate the information that I need except for the bandwidth options.  Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what you mean by "bandwidth options". If you mean the frequencies and bands the iPad can use with cell carriers, those are listed in the Wireless and Cellular area of the tech specs. For iPads sold in the US, see:

If that's not what you meant, please post back and clarify what you mean by "bandwidth options".

  • Error  while giving the production line in repetitive mfg

    Hello friends,
When i am maintaining the production version in material master for repetitive mfg, and in production line when i am giving the workcenter which is in operation of rate routing, system giving me the error message that "REP01(which is my workcenter) is not maintained in plan (planning type = plant = smp1)".Message no. is CFVO90.
Though i have got the solution of this message, but i am not able to understand the solution.
Actually while creating the production version in material master, for task list data i was only maintaining the task list type, Group Number and Group counter for  Rate Based only as Rate Routing. And when i would give the workcenter which is in operation of rate routing then  system would give me the error.
Later on when i maintained the Task list type, Group Number and Group counter for Detailed scheduling, Rate Routing, and Rough cut scheduling and than maintained the workcenter in production line, system didn't give the error.
My question is as we are doing the repetitive mfg, and as we have maintained the rate routing, so why it so that in Detailed scheduling and rough cut scheduling also we have to maintain the Task list type, Group Number and Group counter.
         Plz guide.

    Hello pravin,
    Thanks for the reply.
Actually if i give the details of Task list type, Group, Group counter for Rate based scheduling only in production version and if i maintain the workcenter which i have given in the operation of Rate Rounting in production line then system is throwing the error mentioned above.
Unless and until i mention the details of Rate Routing for all i.e. Detailed scheduling, Rough cut scheduling and Rate based scheduling, system is not allowing me to save the production version.
As per your answer, even i am confused that as i have ticked the repetitive mfg in mrp 4 view and as i have given REM profile, so system should not give me the error when i only maintain the rate routing data in Rate based scheduling in production version.
Is there any other way to solve this error. If not than whats the logic behind it.
I hope u have understood my query.

  • Set funcitonal area in new PO line item

We are trying to re-trigger the derivation of the functional area when a new PO line item is created using the <Copy PO line item> function.  Using standard SAP functionality and changing the delivery date, the functional area associated with the new delivery date is not derived.  I have tried using BADi ME_PROCESS_PO_CUST~PROCESS_ITEM interface and try to rederive the functional area.  This works but when I try to set it using method SET_DATA for the account assignment, the field status does not allow me to do it.  Also, I have tried using the FIELDSELECTION_ITEM interface to set the field status of the functional area.  However, SAP has informed me that this will only work for customer-defined fields and not standard SAP fields, even though the documentation said it would.  Has anybody tried to figure this out or has run into a similar problem?  If so, how did you fix it?

Thanks for your answer. Yes i am aware of that, basically the settings is what the price indicated in the info record and as long it is included in the validty periiod then when you create the PO, that price will be detected by the system. i am clear for that, my issue is why there are some materials that i can change the price in the PO directly while the others are the pricing tab is disabled(cannot change the price)
Settings in the SPRO-MM - PURHASING- CONDITIONS-DEFINE PRICE DETERMINATION PROCESS- DEFINE CONDITION TYPES PB00 is D(NOT POSSIBLE TO PROCESS MANUALLY) but stilll the system is showing some PO's that can be changed the price

  • No Automatic Dispatching Of Planned Order to new Production Version

    Dear Sir,
When rescheduling an operation from one line to another, the system
checks whether a production version exists for the material to be
produced that contains the new production line as the preferred work
center. If such a production version is found, this version is taken
over into the planned order. The planned order is scheduled again based
    on the production version.
The second function allows you to automatically search for an
alternative work center in the case of a capacity overload of a work
center, and to dispatch the operations to it. The predefined
prioritization of the alternative work centers is considered in this
    case.
The indicator Reschedule with production version must be set in the
    strategy profile.
My issue is sytem does not making automatic Dispatch to the second
Production version for the material at the time of insufficient capacity
    Best Regards
Rami Abd El Fattah Mohamed,PPQM Functional & Technical Application
    Consultant

In the dispatching control u can remove operation date check indicator and regarding the termination indicator SAP help says"
"if you have not set this indicator then dispatching is not terminated but carried out without taking the production version into account. That means that the planned order is scheduled with the old standard values and the formulas from the new work center and dispatched to the new line."
Please check if it works now.
    thanks
