Where is the 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display built?
Is this computer built in the United States or somewhere else like China?
I'm not sure where it is assembled but I read somewhere that the flat panel is made by LG. Out of interest, does it matter?

Does the iMac with Retina 5K Display have "user accessible" SO-DIMM slots or not?
The Apple Site "http://www.apple.com/imac-with-retina/specs/" for the iMac with Retina 5K Display states for memory that it has "four SO-DIMM slots, user accessible". What does that really mean? Contact with Apple support indicates that the newest iMac is sealed, therefore I MUST order it with all of the memory I need, or I would have to break the seal (tear it apart) to upgrade the memory later to get to the memory slots...there is no access door as there was in earlier iMacs. Is the memory in slots or soldered in? How can that be interpreted as "user accessible"? This seems very misleading, or Apple support has it wrong.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, but it sort of is. Does anyone know the facts on this? The previous 27 inch iMacs had the same statement. It means that the user can access the memory slots and add or change ram. There is an access panel on the iMac. On 21 inch iMacs there is no door and the ram is not user accessible.

I have bought a Apple iMac with Retina 5K display yesterday! But today I read something negative about this Imac regarding to to Adobe Creative Cloud, - so I would ask if I can use this iMac with Retina 5K with all my Adobe Creative Cloud programs??
I have not unpack it yet, so I would be happy if you could tell me if I should keep it or exchange another Mac if this iMac with Retina 5K display does not work OK in Adobe Creative Cloud. I mostly use the programs Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Muse.
I look forward to hearing from you!WOW!!
That was great to hear.
I have just read this tread: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1626784?start=0&tstart=0
So therefore I was worry about Illustrator which I use most of all programs.
Thank you !! -
Why is Best for Display setting in new iMac with Retina 5K Display only 2560 x 1440?
I just saw the new iMac with 5K Retina Display. It's awesome! I do have one question, though: The default (Best for Display) resolution is 2560 x 1440. That is the same as my current LED Cinema Display. Adjusting the scale in the System Preferences/Display settings maxes out at 3200 x1800, not 5120 x 2880. I'm not sure why the highest scale option isn't the full resolution of the display. Can anyone explain this or direct me to an article that does?
That got my curiosity too. It's something about the retinas pixel density per inch being higher than other displays, such as a Cinema HD.
The "Best (Retina)" option says "Looks like 2560 x 1440" when you roll over it, but the real pixel density is actually doubled I think, so 5120 x 2880.
The "Looks like..." phrase seems to refer to the size of elements on the screen rather than actual pixels. Perhaps that's what some folks call virtual pixels. -
I don't know which combination to get... The key is two have dual monitors. I'm a photographer and need the extra workspace. Would there be a noticeable difference in performance? Please help.
I agree with shldr - do you need the portability? A lot - and I mean a lot - of photographers are taking their MBPs with them on location shoots. If you're in a studio all the time, then the iMac should suit you fine. If you shoot on location and need portability then the MBP with two 27" ATDs would be my choice. If, like most photogs, your shooting is both, go with the MBP.
In the end, portability is your only concern. As an ex-pro, if I were buying a computer today, I would not get the Retina display MacBook Pro - I would get the fastest non-Retina and upgrade myself to 16GB of RAM and at least a 512GB SSD (although OWC has a 960GB SSD that looks awfully nice and the price keeps dropping).
So location or studio or both? If location or mixed, MBP. If studio only, iMac.
Pretty simple decision...

How noisy/quiet is new iMac with Retina 5K display?
How noisy/quiet is new 5K iMac compared to the standard display versions? I returned three 27" iMacs (3.5GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7) back in May because they were too noisy for me. Is this 5K machine any different?
imac 5k sadly has a very active fan, especially in the combination of i7 and the amd r9 m295x gpu (4gb).
check the forums (wow, cod etc.) where many people are currently complaining and returning their mac (me as well considering it).. while gaming the fan speed is at 2700 rpm which is around 38 db (very loud!) and the gpu is 105C (not fahrenheit!).
all processor (cpu) intensive tasks like handbrake, rendering etc. will make the i7 go warm and the fan go loud.
all graphics (gpu) intensive tasks like any game will make the amd m295x go hot and the fan go very loud.
regular surfing, photoshop etc. is not affected!
in normal mode, it's always at 1200 rpm where it is not audible to me.
if you want it as quiet as possible go with the i5 and the cheaper graphics card (290x).
just be aware that this is the loudest imac or even mac ever (louder than current mac pro) and I'm not sure if constant heat (105C) is affecting life expectancy and I've been having them since 1991. -

My iMac now got stuck for over 2 days in Shanghai, China (it's there now 20:51) - why is that, and is there anything Apple could do to speed up the delivery?Well, I live in Italy, but want a UK-International keyboard... So hence why Apple had this not available in the shop. I actually went there, and ended up watching the Apple sales person ordering it online for me :-)
But when I had my iPhone 6 delivered, there was no such long time where the parcel got stuck...

I have a 27 inch iMac with maverick os. my current version of iMovie (10.0.6) will not open older projects i created in iMovie 9.0.9. I can find the projects and they have a ".rcproject" file extension
Thank you GeeD. I'm still stymied.
I have moved the Event and Project Folders to the "top-layer of the drive" as the instructions state, right alongside the System Folder, Users Folder and Applications Folders.
When I open iMovie 10.0.8, the Events and Projects Folders are empty:
When I select File/Update Projects and Events, I get an alert box that says iMovie couldn't find any:
Not knowing exactly what is meant by the "top layer" in the instructions, I moved the Events and Project folders back inside the "Movies" folder where I found them (but then not where I would call the "top" layer, but rather "iMac/Users/Home/Movies/iMovieProjects". Then I tried to "Update Projects and Events" and received the same alert: "iMovie could not find any projects or events to update."
Then I tried to update iMovie 9.0 (iMovie '11 version 9.0 (1073)) to version 9.0.9 .
[As an aside, the nomenclature of iMovie drives me nuts. The latest version is 10.0.8, which us newer than iMovie '11.]
Back to the update of version 9.0 to 9.0.9.
Presumably because I have version 10.0.8 installed, I got this alert box:
So, I cannot update version 9.0
and I cannot "Update" the Events and Projects created in version 9.0. -
I would like to know whether After Effects CC Ray-traced 3D support the GPU of the new iMac with retina display.
It never will. This is nVidia-exclusive technology and the whole things is deprecated, anyway. You better learn to use Cineware, buy a 3D program like Pro Animator or Element 3D or learn a proper 3D program.

Does the 27 inch iMac 3.2GHz work with a step approximated sine wave?
Regarding the 27 inch iMac 3.2GHz Intel Core i3 Apple Computer... does it work with a step approximated sine wave?
In configuring a UPS uninterruptible power supply with an iMac, APC asked, "Does the 27 inch iMac 3.2GHz Intel Core i3 Apple Computer work with a step approximated sine wave?"

It's driving me crazy; I have a firewire, but it isn't compatible with the ports on the new macbook pro with retina display.
Thanks for your help!hanskra wrote:
I wish to know from Apple,
These are user-to-user forums where everyday folk post "technical" questions and offer answers to each other voluntarily. No one here works for Apple nor does Apple get involved in responding.
You can either contact Apple Care since you are still under warranty or click on the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this website. -
As a stockholder, I would like see the development of iTV with Retina display and integrating Siri control, internet access, and iTunes apps. This new product would be a large screen, thin wall mounted television, much like a oversided iPad.
Do you think this product is possible? In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

I have a mid 2011 27 inch iMac and a late 2012 mac mini. I am using the 27 inch iMac as the display for the mac mini with a thunderbolt cable. I was trying to use bootcamp on the mini but after I started downloading windows I can't get it to display on the iMac.
Hi there,
The simplest way is to drag it across wirelessly using the 'Airdrop' application once both computers are near one another. 'Airdrop' can be found near the top, on the left hand side menu, within 'Finder'.
