Where is the "authorize computer" found
I know I must sound like the biggest idiot but I just downloaded the newest itunes for my iMac and I'm syncing my songs up to it when I get the message that I need to authorize my computer and do that by going to store>authorize computer.
I'm assuming store means iTunes store but I can't find the link for the authorization. It's not under the quick links so...
I appreciate any help that is given!
I'm assuming store means iTunes store
It means the Store menu at the top of the screen, not anything in the iTunes window.

how do i authorize my new computer to play past itunes purchases? cant find the "authorize computer" selection
If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

It is not actually in the iTunes Store, it is in the Store menu of iTunes.
To authorize, go to the Store menu item on the iTunes menu bar, and choose "Authorize This Computer..." as shown below.
If by any chance you don't see the menu bar ("File, Edit, View, Controls, Store, Help"), first enable it by using CTRL+B. -

Authorization and Deauthorization
Macs: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us. -

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have iTunes 11, the menu bar is hidden. To show it, hold the Alt key, and then, choose the Store menu (on the menu bar) > Authorize this Computer.
You can also find the iTunes Store menu by pressing the button at the top left corner of the iTunes window -

I found it thank you. The menu bar is not in the itunes window.
No one stated it was in the iTunes window.
However, it is in iTunes for Windows.
I see that mac does not work like windows. Windows the file menu bar is in the itunes window itself. On mac the file menu bar is on the top of your screen
Correct
(on my laptop and the itunes of course is being viewed on my monitor.
Not really "of course". No one was aware you are using two screens and you did not mention you were new to Mac from Windows.
Is there a setting to have the menu bar with my itunes window?
Only if you rewrite Mac OS and iTunes for Mac. -

On your Computer...
Open iTunes...
If you're using iTunes 11 click on the box icon in the top-left corner to see the " Show Menu Bar "
and from the Menu Bar select Store...
From the Store menu, choose Authorize This Computer.
(In earlier versions of iTunes, access this option from the Advanced menu).
When prompted, enter your Apple ID and password, then click Authorize.

Where is the "authorize this computer" function in the iTunes store?
There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Altrenatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them: -

Hello, vizords.
Thank you for the question. You will need to enable the menu bar in iTunes 11 so you can access the store menu which will allow you to authorize the computer. Here are the steps on how to process this.
