  • Where is the DELETE key -- and I don't mean "backspace"

Every PC of any stripe that I have ever owned -- and we're talking a lot of machines in nearly 30 years of this -- has had two 'delete' keys.
One is a backspace key -- it erases characters in before the cursor. It's usually found above the enter/return key, where the backspace key used to be on those old-fangled typewriter machines.
The other key was a "delete" key -- which would erase characters that apper AFTER the cursor. There the backspace key would erase backwards, the delete key would erase forwards.
So, where is the DELETE key on a Mac keyboard? Is there some combination of keys that will serve that purpose? Or does somebody really think I'm going to move the cursor to the end of some place and delete backwards ALL the time?
I read in yesterday's Wall Street Journal that Steve Jobs doesn't like buttons, but this is ridiculous. It could, in fact be a fatal error... I've still got 10 days to take this thing back...
    --PS

I don't suppose there is any kind of utility program that would let me re-map they keyboard, so that I could make, say, the "enter" key at the bottom into a "forward-delete" key (I never use that enter key, my hands are trained to use the "enter/return" key where it's always been on a typewriter -- yeah, I'm that old...)
Either buried on the Mac somewhere or a third party program that would let me do that? Would sure make the MacBook more liveable... I delete a LOT!
    Thanks,

  • Where is the delete key??

i switched to mac recently, in windows i had (delete) key and (backspace) key, but in my mac, there is only (backspace) key. where is the (delete) key??

There is no backspace key on a Mac keyboard. The Delete key is on the upper right on the keyboard, and if you have a Pro keyboard, there is another smaller delete key underneath the F13-F15 function keys, along with help, home, end, page up and page down keys.

  • Where is The "Home" Key in Logc

I am new and fairly inorant, but very enthusiastic about logic, so please forgive this simpple question. Can some please tell me where is the "Home" key in logic? I would like to go back to 1 1 1 1 at any given time by utilizing this key. I am aware that double cliking on the play button in the trasport window will go back to the last positon that I desinted, but that does not help when I need to go to the ver begining. Thanks in advance for your help.
    Rockfort

Try 0 on your extended keyboard.
I forget now if I saved that as a key command or if Logic ships that way.
But I am pretty sure Logic ships with 0 as return to song start. If your song starts at 1 1 1 1 then it will return to 1 1 1 1.

  • How do I delete forwards, ie without using the backspace key ?

When want to change a letter or some text I always have to position the cursor after the entire word and use the backspace key to delete the whole word, even if I just want to delete, for example, the first letter. Is there a key that deletes forwards ?
This applies to my iPad, MacBook Air and iPhone.

I'd like to sort of hiighjack this thread.  I moved from an iPad Mini to an iPad Air bcause I wanted to add a keyboard case that would replace some of the frustration I've experienced trying to type on the Mini's display.  So with the AIR I purchased a Belkin Ultimate keyboard and I'm very peased with it.  My "principal" computer is a desktop PC and I was quite startled to find there are no cursors, other than by finger, in the iPad world; however, I'm getting used to that.  Re the posting here, that seems to be good advice re the delete function.  My question: looking prettyy closely at my Belkn keyboard, where is the "delete" key?

  • Where's the phone key pad

how to find  / where is the phone key pad with ios 7 all I get is face time no key pad

The delete key or backspace key is all that there is on a MacBook. It functions as a backward delete. If you want to use a forward delete, you need to hold down the fn (function) key in the bottom left of your keyboard and hit the delete or backspace key. For a more functional or normal approach for heavy writing, I might suggest an external keyboard with the forward delete key in place. -GDF

  • Where's the timeline key frames button in Elements 10?

I've just installed Premiere Elements 10 on my new iMac.  I've noticed that the add/remove key frames button on the left of the video tracks in the timeline appears only in track one and yet, in illustrations on the help pages (and in earlier versions of PE) the button appears alongside each track.
So how do I make that button appear?
    Many thanks.

My thanks for your interest.  I have thanked Robert for his contribution.
Best wishes for the forum.  It's a great asset.

I would say that it's a programming Bug in the GUI display, as the Keyframe operations buttons SHOULD appear for all Tracks. However, Robert had the workaround. Bug Report. Note: PrE shows up in the Photoshop Family. Good luck, and thank you Robert, Hunt

  • Why does the backspace key now make the browser go back to the last page viewed, and how can I change that setting?

When typing in a browser page to reply to a blog, when I pressed the backspace key to correct a typo, suddenly the browser went back to the previous web page. How can this setting be changed or turned off?

This should never happen when the cursor is in an editing control, but it has always done that if the focus was on the page itself.
    Here's how to change it:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box that appears above the list, type or paste '''backs''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.backspace_action''' preference and enter the desired value:
    * 0 => back (default)
    * 1 => page up
    * 2 => ignore (actually, anything other than 0 or 1 does nothing)
OK to save the change. You're done.

OK, I give up.  Where is the hot key to download the new OS Lion?  I have looked on all the pages and can't seem to find it.

  • Where's the delete key gone?

Just got a new Macbook 2.4 - there's no delete key. The backspace key is fine, but I miss the delete key.
Is there another way of doing this?

  • Deployment error - where is the ClassImp key?

So I've been working on this application for about 4 months.
In that time, I've made updates and changes to the WAR file and used the
NT-based Deploytool to deploy against a Solaris instance of iAS6.0 SP2.
    no problems.
But the other day I totally blew up the app server (corrupted registry,
had to restore from tape backup).
All I did was the same thing I've been doing for 4 months or more. Make
a few changes, re-jar my WAR file, and redeploy.
But it fails after a couple of registry loads, completely truncates the
registry file and in short, if there were no backup, it would be iAS
    re-install time.
java.lang.IlegalStateException: internal assert: where is the <ClassImp>
    key?

    Hi,
Well, it's difficult to tell where the problem is, would appreciate if
more information is mentioned about the error messages, the O/S, the Service
    Pack of iAS.

  • Where is the Product key of Apple Mobile Device support?

Where is the Product Key of a iPhone 4?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Mobile Device Support entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • HT4628 where is the security key?

    where is the security key?

"Security key" is a term that some manufacturers use for your wireless network password or passcode.
In rare circumstances some products might require the actual 64 digit hex code that is generated by the password. If your device is asking for a very long code of numbers and letters, post back to tell us what operating system you are using on your computer.
I've never had to use the hex code in 20+ years, but you never know.

  • Spilled some tea on my laptop and now the backspace key doesn't work!

    Hi All,
So I spilled some tea on my macbook today. All over the ekeyboard. Thankfully everything is working perfectly fine except my BACKSPACE/DELETE key, which I hve come to realize is super important even just writing this message! Does anyone know how I can fix this? Is my computer forever going to be without a functioning backspace key? What can I do? Do you think the apple store can fix it??? HELP ME PLEASE THIS IS SO ANNOYING!

You may be able to 'remap' keys on the MacBook's keyboard, so as to assign a new purpose to one of the keys you'd otherwise not use much anyway; such as the small "Enter" key in the bottom row of the portable; a remap of this should not affect the larger Enter key, so you can re-purpose of the small one so it performs a Delete.
The 'arrow' keys allow a left-direction cursor movement without an erase; sometimes, the FN key can be used to control alternative functions; not sure how complex the commands or assigned functions can be & still work.
There had been a few free remapping apps and guidelines to help Mac owners adjust their built-in keyboard for use with Windows under BootCamp, Parallels, for dual-booting in non-Mac OS X; or other virtualization schemes to use the main keyboard for custom functions. Some of these can be assigned to work in one OS.
The idea of trying a known-good external USB keyboard, to test the computer's hardware beyond the issues you've found troublesome after the built-in keyboard was exposed to liquid, would be best to test the chassis and logic circuits for damages beyond the keyboard assembly.
The built-in keyboard issues where a single key does not function after an immersion or liquid spill event, are unlikely to be cured by simple replacement of a single key-face; and the individual key-switches are not seperate components to be changed out. The keyboard and touchpad can be removed and replaced by a skilled and trained technician. The rest of the MacBook should be inspected and tested for damage, too.
Depending on your exact build model version of MacBook, the keyboard, touchpad, and upper half of the lower case assembly has different parts and construction processes; so some of the online suggestions and YouTube videos posted there by other users may viewed with this in mind. Several upgrades occurred under the skin of these computers; so do the details on how to access or repair/replace internal components.
    The iFixit online instruction pages may have some information on how to replace the built-in keyboard; if your model build version of MacBook is one of those not too extreme for a non-expert to attempt a repair. The warning as intricate details go, usually implies you could do damages inside the computer in addition to the main symptom and issue(s) you initially seek to resolve. Be ware! {Like on old world maps: of dragons, etc.}
You could look through search results to compare videos posted by well-intentioned users, to see which ones may appear to be more like the exact model MacBook you have. A more positive identification of your portable would be required to get correct parts and perform detailed procedures properly. These generally do not have general parts; details inside the MacBook line changed many times over the years its been made.
Several leads appear in a search based on these words in a google browser:
    replace macbook keyboard
Some sticky keys and individual keyface replacements are noted; however if the liquid damaged more than the keyboard you'd have to troubleshoot the computer to know for sure. One way to tell, is to attach an external USB keyboard and see if the actual functions themselves are still working. Liquid can also cause corrosion later on, so a temporary fix may involve a superficial symptom. Other issues may follow later on.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75IddbU4eSo
    • iFixit Guides -- for macbook:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/MacBook
The key itself may have some gunk within the parts, layers are as noted in the first youtube video linked above; but the liquid may have gone on to find places to cause further grief at a later time. Or the symptom you note may imply damage beyond the keyboard already has taken place.
You may have to make an advance appointment to see some genius or product expert, and plan a time to take the unit in. Or contact some place who can do the work, and who are authorized experts, to have them inspect the computer and give you an estimate of the damages and a proper cure. Sorry that I don't have a simple answer; and have already been interrupted here while trying to put together some kind of a reply. Like getting my mind wiped clear more than twice, when someone comes along & starts talking nonsense, while I'm already busy (doing three things) and one more is an overload.
    Hopefully this helps somewhat...
    Good luck & happy computing!
