Where is the best place to store your media

Hi there
I am using a Mac book pro with an external monitor which I used FCE on, am I right in thinking that it is better to have all your media that you use in FCE connected to an external hard drive which then is connected to the laptop, is this the best way to get your media into your project at a fast speed?.
The external hard drive is a lacie mini hub hd.
at the moment I have all my projects opening from where I save them to..... in the movies on the hard disk. Could somebody please advise if this is the best way to proceed.
Thanking you in advance.
Denis

Hi Denis.
The ideal method, especially if you are producing videos of gargantuan proportions, is to have all your media on a dedicated external HD as the other posters have mentioned.
However, there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't continue using your internal HD if it works OK for you and you are not using vast amounts of video and other media.
Of course if you find you are running out of space or having other problems caused by a cluttered HD, you definitely need to make use of an external. (FW400 is more than fast enough for anything you are likely to need).

  • Where's the best place to store email templates?

    Hi all;
In a web app I store all my email templates in a files folder in the web app. Can't do that with a worker in a cloud service - no files. So where's the best place to store them? In a BLOB? And if so, is there a way to have files in my project get automatically
written to BLOB entries when I publish?

    Hi,
I think we could use azure blob to save files.
    >>is there a way to have files in my project get automatically written to BLOB entries when I publish?
If you choose azure cloud service, you could write the upload code at role onstart method. If you choose Azure website, please consider use azure webjob to do this, refer to

  • Where is the best place to store media?

I have been storing all of my video files in Apetuture since it is easy to just import everything in there when I insert my photos (either off of my iphone, or sd card.)  However I have to export the video files from Apetuture over to Final Cut Pro X in order to create my videos. I've been doing this since FCPX came out, and now have duplicated a lot of videos, and used up a lot of my HD space.
I have alos liked keeping my videos in Apetuture so I could keep them in the same events as the photos that "go with" the video, not to mention it's nice to have all my media in one place, and I feel that Apetuture is a better media orginazer than fcpx.  However, I don't like having to always export videos, and than import them back in to FCPX.  So I'm curious what the best way to handle media is.  Should I store all my videos in FCPX? Keep them in Apetuture and continue doing what I'm doing? Or some other method?
    Thanks.

what your are doing isn't a bad thing in my opinion. aperture is a great way to keep all your footage that was shot with a HDSLRs. It will double up your storage, so i propose haveing your aperture library on a seperate drive. import media into FCPX directly and use aperture as your back up. Backups is a great way to get you out of those tight situations where something becomes missing. im sure already knew thaty though. For me i only put my finals in aperture because I like how aperture stores my photos and videos in events, instead of finder. I import directly into FCPX and work with the footage one a seperate drive, ALWAYS. Its too much work on the harddrive running videos files, OS, and FCPX all at the same time.
    hope this helps

  • Where is the best place to sell your macbook pro?

Other places besides ebay and craigslist please
Got a late 2013 15 macbook pro, brand new, no dents or scratches, and i barely use it. I payed 3 grand for it when i got it, so i was thinking maybe i could 2,500 for it, if thats even possible.
Also dont know if this is in the right spot or not to post this.

This means there are no good places for selling your Mac (unless you're prepared to lose more than you would like to, that is).
It is not unusual for the seller to overvalue their item and the buyer to undervalue it.  Then they have to come to a compromise in order to consummate a sale.  This has been the case for eons.
    Ciao.

  • When group-working from SAN, where is the best place to store Cache Files, the Cache Database, and render files?

I have a small post production house, and we are spinning up into editing our first series. We're all working from a SAN, and sharing projects and sequences via the Media Browser. It's working great so far, but we've been having issues (could be user error) with trying to figure out where best to store the Media Cache database, the cache files, and the preview files so when a project is moved from one machine to another, it doesn't constantly have to re-conform all of the media in the project.
We have a very large master project, as this is a documentary style show, so there are hours and hours of clips.
When I open a project on a new or different machine it has to conform EVERYTHING in the project again.
Where should I store all these conform and cache files so that new people can get started working without having a machine literally be unusable until the conform process finishes?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jon,
I have a small post production house, and we are spinning up into editing our first series. We're all working from a SAN, and sharing projects and sequences via the Media Browser.
Glad it is working for you. Just to let you know, this workflow is not officially supported so your mileage may vary based on the kind of system you're working with. There are a lot of variations to the quality of these kinds of systems. Some are turn key, some home built - so I think you understand.
It's working great so far, but we've been having issues (could be user error) with trying to figure out where best to store the Media Cache database, the cache files, and the preview files so when a project is moved from one machine to another, it doesn't constantly have to re-conform all of the media in the project.
While it's possible to have the cache files (and the database) in a central location (I only know of one place that pulls that off, and it's a very, very large place), the systems that have this data stored locally are far more reliable. You can work around all the reconfirming by avoiding moving the project data around. You really don't need to move the project around from place to place. Have one computer as the "hub" for inputting data from other workstations. Wouldn't that work?
When I open a project on a new or different machine it has to conform EVERYTHING in the project again.
Can't you just have the master project on one machine and work on shorter sequences of your doc on the other machines? When done, just import to the master machine.
Where should I store all these conform and cache files so that new people can get started working without having a machine literally be unusable until the conform process finishes?
Premiere Pro simply must have those cache files in order to work. Sorry, there's no way around this problem unless you change your workflow.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Where is the best place to store photos?  In iPhoto or in the photo file?

I just got a new macbook air and I am wondering is it better to store photos in Iphoto or in the photo folder ?

Well, of course, the answer is subjective.  What's best for you depends on your personal setup and expectations.
With all respect to PlotinusVeritas' response, yes, iPhoto "hijacks" your photos and incorporates them into an iPhoto Library, which is not very amenable to non-iPhoto users messing with the photos there.
However, if you have other Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, etc., you may wish to share photos with those devices.  This is easily accomplished by iPhoto.  There is also the concept of Photo Stream - keeping the photos in a cloud - which iPhoto does well.
If you would like these features and need external photo editing programs as PlotinusVeritas' response suggests, you can always export photos out of iPhoto for use elsewhere.
Again, it all depends on your anticipated use.

  • What is the best place to store salts

    Hi,
I'm using a combination of flex ,CF and MS SQL
Where is the best place to store salts for user passwords?

    Hi,
Table is good if "constant" might change so you can create APEX form to maintain those.
You could also use package specification just for constants e.g.
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    PACKAGE MY_GLOBALS
    AS
      g_const_1 CONSTANT DATE := TRUNC(SYSDATE) + 365;
      g_const _2 CONSTANT VARCHAR2(30) := 'somestring';
    END;
Then you can refer those in procedures, functions and APEX processes like (package_name.constant_name) MY_GLOBALS.g_const_1.

  • Where is the best place to buy the new ipad? Please help

I am ready to buy a new ipad.  There is no apple store in my town but I will be close to one in a couple of days.  My town has Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.  Assuming I can find what I want... in case I have issues with it, where is the best place to purchase from??  (as far as ease of return, etc). Please advise.

Dah*veed ..... I do not disagree with what you said about the AppleCare+ protection plan as it does state on the website that proof of purchase is required - IF ... You purchase over the phone. Actually, I did not expect to be able to do this over the phone, but as I said I received the paperwork today via email.
I copied this from the website and I'm typing this on my new iPad so it may come out a little distorted but you can read the sentence at the bottom that says it can be done over the phone with proof of purchase. I gave the rep my serial number, confirmed my address and CC details and the deal was done. I even called back later in the day to make absolutely certain that I did in fact purchase the AppleCare+ plan that has the two incidents of accidental damage included for a $49.00 charge. The rep did in fact confirm that I did buy the correct plan that I wanted and I am looking at the printed paperwork confirming the whole thing.
    Maybe I just got lucky!
    iPad - AppleCare+
Every iPad comes with one year of hardware repair coverage and 90 days of telephone technical support. AppleCare+ for iPad gives you two years of repair coverage and technical support from the original purchase date of your iPad. And it adds coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage due to handling of your iPad, each subject to a $49 service fee.1
    How to get AppleCare+
You must buy AppleCare+ within 30 days of your iPad purchase.
There are three ways to buy:
From the Apple Online Store: When you order the new iPad or iPad 2, you’ll have the option to add AppleCare+ to your cart before you check out.
At an Apple Retail Store (requires a Genius Bar appointment, inspection of the iPad, and proof of purchase).
By calling 1-800-275-2273 (requires proof of purchase).

  • Where's the Best Place....

    Hello once again,
I have yet to purchase my MBP, and I am wondering from all of your experiences, where is the best place to buy a 1gig 3rd party RAM. Paying all that money for Apple's RAM isn't that way I want to go, but if there's no recommended 3rd party companies, I may need to cough over the bucks...
    thanks,

Fair enough. I wasn't actually suggesting buying from Crucial. The best source for the 1gb Crucial was Newegg.com at $150 - but this is also for a chip that Apple are supplying as original ram so it's not a bad price. I didn't know Crucial sold Samsung - seems a bit odd as they are owned by Micron who also supply Apple as OEM. Business makes for strange bedfellows:)
OWC sell their own branded ram for $112 or so and Samsung M470T295CZ3-CE6 (as also supplied by Apple) for $170. What I was saying was that this Samsung chip,
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Samsung/53SDR2SAM1GB/
can be found for as little as $120 - so OWC are a tad expensive for this particular chip if that is the one you were thinking of buying.
It sounds like you're going for the OWC own brand, so I can't recommend a cheaper source for that and they know a thing or two about ,macs so there's no reason to not trust their judgement.
    Best of luck
    Cheers.

  • Where is the best place to implement business logic in ADF application?

Where is the best place to implement business logic in ADF application?
I mean something like service layer in Spring

Depends on what your logic does and what data it deals with, but in general business logic is in the ADF BC layer.
Some goes into entity objects - for things like attribute or row validation.
Some goes into view objects - for things like calculation.
Some goes into AM - for things like service methods for UI clients.

Usually for most image editing you really shouldn't need that type of plugin. (it's similar to Image>Adjustments>Equalize)

  • Where  is the best place to save my projects?

I dont know if I have been saving my Project right but I also have a external hard drives and I thought I was saving it their but I check it today and their is nothing on it . Where is the best place to save it or do I even need the external hard drive? Thanks

No idea what you might have done wrong...
By default your projects are saved in Macintosh HD/Users/~<name>/Music/Logic/ folder on your boot drive. Check it first.
You can also try to open your project again using recent files list in Finder or in Logic itself. Then you can find the exact location of your project folder: in the Arrange select an Audio region and go Audio -> Show Selected File(s) in Finder. This will open Audio Files folder in the project folder (well, this will work only if external files are included in the project's assets).
Another method will be using Spotlight (click on magnifying glass icon in the upper-right corner of the screen to open Spotlight and type in your the name under which you saved your project).

  • Where is the best place to put cfqueries?

Where is the best place to put cfqueries, in the <head> </head> or before the html tag? Thanks

So before the doctype tag? Thanks
I just doesn't really matter.  the doctype, head, body, etc only matter to the browser; the CF tags only matter to CF.  The browser doesn't see the CFML, and CF doesn't care about the mark-up one bit: it just ignores it.
The best place - as I said - is not in the same file at all.  But if you insist on slapping your business logic in with your display logic, then the only consideration is that you need to set your variables before you use them.  Other than that: it simply doesn't matter.
One consideration you might make is - even if it's all thrown into the same one file - at least separate the file itself into sections: have all your CFML code that gets your data at the top, and try to limit the CFML you have mixed in with the mark-up, eg: limit it to stuff like loops and conditionals.
But, seriously, separate your concerns.  Dan's pretty much just wrong when he said it's over-engineering. It's just sloppy to not to write tidy, well-maintained, well-organised code.
