Where is the BIOS setup? - Satellite Pro 490XCDT

my wife has a pre-historic notebook 490XCDT and yesterday she came home with a brand new WLAN card
>> please, best husband of the world, install this <<
she said, and now its me who struggels for hours with this sh...notebook :/
it might help if I could get into BIOS settings, but when I press ESC during power on, this model just say:
>> check system and press F1 <<
If I do so, the "system" boots (WIN98) and no BIOS setup is available
what can I do? (exept recycling, devorce, etc...)
Jake

Hi
I agree with you. This unit is pretty old.
Are you sure that your wireless LAN card is compatible with your unit?
Which card did you use? minPCI or PCMCIA WLan?
You have suggested that your unit is preinstalled with Win 98 OS. Well, Im sure that you need also a right driver.
As far as I know the ESC is a right button to enter the BIOS but check other possibilities; F2 or F12.

  • Satellite 1400-103: Cannot access the BIOS Setup

I'm having problems getting into the BIOS setup. At the 1st bootup screen I press ESC key then message appears Check system. Then press F1 key. Once key is pressed it doesn't take me to BIOS setup and laptop reboots. Any help will be much appreciated.

No it doesn't. There is a problem with the OS and I was gonna do a repair using an XP disk. I have been trying to boot from cd rom by pressing C button and I've also tried pressing F12 key to change boot device. The teacher whose laptop it is has put a bios password on bootup but I'm assuming this shouldn't affect bootup or accessing the bios setup. I'm not sure if it's a supervisor password or administrator password.

  • Z87-G43, can't enter the BIOS Setup, system is not running

    Hi everyone,
I was working with my pc for about 2 months. Since the very first day i had few problems with mobo but now i can't even run the system and enter the bios. First of all, i had problem with running the system after disabled the MSI logo. I had to enebled it again, because it was the only way to turn on PC (bios stopped at the screen with black screen and a2 code) but it was about 1 month ago. I also remember that from the very beginning option "Hardware Monitor" wasn't working, i mean bios was freezing too and i had to restart PC. Furthermore i have noticed that after choosing language to Polish, few more options in "Settings" appeared, but after switching language back to english they were gone. Unfortunately i can't say now, which one it was because now i got the biggest problem...
BIOS is not running at all. I mean, it all stops with A2 code in right bottom corner of the screen. I can't even enter the bios setup. It shows "Setup is preparing to start" or something like that, but it doesn't run... Can't do nothing atm. BIOS version was the latest - 1.6 . It all started to happening when i had entered to option in bios with disabling or enabling MSI logo, i didn't choose nothing, it freezed, i have resterted PC, and now i nothing is running...  Btw sometimes, i coudn't run the system and bios was freezeing also, if my TL-WN722N wasn't connected to USB port in front case's panel. But now, whenever Tp-LINK is connected or not, it's not running...

A2 is IDE detect <--- that is a HDD/SSD problem or its cable (try a different one)
if the above doesn't work try to foll0w >>Clear CMOS Guide<< do that to reset the BIOS to defaults with power cord removed from your PSU!
after performing the above steps make sure you enter BIOS and reset the SATA mode (AHCI/IDE/RAID to what you installed your os at) and boot order to your SSD first!
Ye that's the reason, I have a new brand 1tb sata 3 where I installed the windows, but the old 320gb sata 2 is causing the same error, so I have to remove the cables from the sata 2 hdd, than the pc boots ok. I shutdown & reatach the old drive & evrething works untill the PC enters stand by again.

  • Toshiba P875 S7102 How To Enter The Bios Setup

I have been tring everything to get to the bios screen of the computer.  I have tried holding Esc, F1, F2, F10, F12, Delete, but that has not worked.  I have found a toshiba manual that said to hold F2 until you see the toshiba logo then release it.  Nothing has worked, it just continues to boot to windows 8.
I have searched and searched, this forum and the web, but I have not found anything that has worked to get into the BIOS setup screen.
What is the proper key stroke to get into the bios screen for P875 S7102 laptop?
    Thanks.

The "secret" is what you do when shutting down before attempting to access the BIOS.  Press the shift key as you click Shutdown. Then on startup, tap F2 to take you to the BIOS screen.
This applies to Toshiba laptops that came PRE-INSTALLED with Windows 8. It does NOT apply to Windows 7 machines or those that were UPGRADED from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

  • Sooo... How do I get into the bios setup?

Now before you get out the pitchforks and torches, I know I'm supposed to continually press or hold a certain Function key when I first power on a computer.
My cousin left me his old Pavilion a410e.  I figured I'd set it up for when family or friends needed to use a computer.  Well... when I got everything together and started it up, I got an error.  "CPU Fan Failure".  (Now you see why my cousin gave the computer to me.)  I popped open the case and saw the fan spin up fine when powering the computer.  The fan's power connecter and the heatsink/fan are all properly in place.  I tried to google for a solution, and came across suggestions to turn off the fan check through bios.  The computer came into my hands with the 3.06 bios, and while in that bios menu, the cpu fan options were greyed out (unchangeable).  I thought maybe a bios update would change that, so I went ahead and downloaded/installed the 3.10 bios update from HP.  It installed fine (I guess), but now I can't get into the bios menu, no matter which key I press.  Windows boots up fine, so long as I bypass the CPU fan failure warning by pressing F2.  I'd really like to kill that warning.  How do I get into the bios menu now, guys?

I wouldn't mind trying.  I'm not sure where I'd find older bios updates, tho.  HP doesn't seem to archive their bioses on the site.

I'm...not sure what you mean, but if you're asking me which bios version I have installed currently, it's: 3.10.  For Pavilion a410e.

ESC takes me to the "Boot Menu", which works, oddly...  The boot screen says to press F1 to get into the bios setup, but it just won't work.

  • Using K7T266 Pro2, Where is the BIOS Protection?

I am using K7T266 Pro2 (MS-6380 v2.0) with BIOS update 3.70. I was reading the manual and suddenly I found a interesting function “BIOS Protection”, quote from manual:
    Quote
This function protects the BIOS from accidental corruption by unauthorized users or computer viruses. When enabled, the BIOS’ data cannot be changed when attempting to update the BIOS with a Flash utility. To successfully update the BIOS, you’ll need to disable this Flash BIOS
This is a really useful function but the problem is that I cannot find it! According to the manual it should be in the Advanced Chipset Features section, below the “PCI Delay Transaction” function. But when I go to my BIOS setup there is nothing below the “PCI Delay Transaction” function. And so I ask my self “where is the BIOS Protection feature?”, I checked threw all the other sections but I could not find it… Please help me, where is this function? Doesn't it include in the new BIOS update 3.70? Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

But why haven't they included the BIOS protection feature in the newer updates? It's not like it would demand more programming becouse it already works for ther older BIOS version. And the feature is really great for protection agains BIOS killing viruses! so whats the harm of including a great feature that already includes in the older version? I guess that many don't have the answer, but If you don't do you have any suggestions of why MSI didn't include this feature in the newer BIOS version?

  • Where is the 17" new macbook Pro

Where is the 17" new macbook Pro??

    @kc1974,
Yes, I understood that.  That is why I brought up the consideration of limited manufacturing capacity even before I questioned whether the sheer size of a 17" laptop like the new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display wouldn't pose challenges of its own.
To reiterate:  Suppose you were manufacturing three models of a laptop and you wanted to upgrade the line, not with incremental modifications (like the ones that characterize the "new" 13" and 15" MacBook Pro's), but with something that would leave the competition eating your dust.  Suppose further that this "something" would make the laptops fairly expensive, something your fans won't expect.  They have been used to upgraded model s costing no more than the models that they replace, i.e., more performance for the same price.  So you test the market by giving it a choice between a normally upgraded version of one model, or a version of the same model with the technology that will enable you to leave the competition behind.  How do you propose to manufacture the "ground-breaking" version without having to increase your manufacturing capacity?  After all, you don't want the test to be more expensive than necessary!  You decide to devote the line that presently manufactures the least popular model to manufacturing the "ground-breaking" version of the one model.
I think that make some sense, don't you?  Now suppose that the MBP 15" with Retina Display turns out to be a runaway success.  I doubt that Apple would continue to offer just the three MBP's that it is offering today.  It would make a lot of sense to consolidate around models with Retina displays, i.e., to replace the unibody MBP's by models with Retina displays (and without all the things that some of us which hadn't been sacrificed in the name of thinness).  That would be the time to introduce a 17" MBP with Retina Display.  Here's another "suppose".  Suppose Apple had introduced an upgrade to the 17" MBP along with the upgrades to the other two models.  Which segment of the customer base do you think would howl the loudest, becasue no sooner had they bought the upgrade, than the version with the Retina display was introduced?  Correct!  That segment that had always purchased the technologically most advanced model.
I think I'm going to hang on to my MBP 17" until the verdict is in on the new Retina MBP.  Maybe by that time Apple will see fit to let us in on its plans for us.
    Regards,
    Richard

Why do you want to update the BIOS?!
Do you have any big troubles with your notebook?!
The Toshiba European driver page provides BIOS for XP and BIOS for Vista.
Both BIOS versions must be executed while the operating system is running!
If you use the Linux on your notebook, you will be not able to update the BIOS!!!
    Do you understand?
Once again; The BIOS update should be done ONLY if its absolutely necessary. In other case dont update it!

  • No AHCI in BIOS in Satellite Pro A200

I just installed an ssd and would like to change the bios utility to ahci however there isnt an area that i am able to do this. the Computer is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 (psfa1a-003002).
Do I need to update the BIOS? Where do I get the update and how do I update it?

As far as I know BIOS update doesn't offer some additional options. Please check BIOS settings again. In advanced BIOS options there should be SATA option and there you can change between compatibility and AHCI mode.
I have it on my P200. It is almost identical machine but 17 and your is 15 model.
