  • How do I use the built-in microphone on my iMac while using Windows XP?

My iMac has a built-in microphone. My computer is set up with a partition to run either mac or windows. I would like to use the built-in microphone feature when I am using Windows XP. Is there any way that I can do this?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
assuming you have installed the neccessary BootCamp Drivers from the OSX Leopard DVD the internal mic is useable with any kind of recording software.
Windows itself has a rather rudimentary Audiorecorder program built-in.
For a more sophisticated recording program have a look at Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

  • How can i use the built-in microphone at the same time as using my earphones? (they have an external mic attached)

I am recording stuff on garageband and i need to hear other tracks as I'm playing, but I have to play them through external earphones so that the they don't overlap onto the one I'm creating.
The wire for my earphones has an external microphone attached to it, however, I have no desire to use this microphone as it is ridiculously sensitive and picks up even the slightest vibrations when the wires rub against my cheek or my t-shirt.
Therefore, I need to use the built-in microphone when recording. Except that, whenever I plug in the earphones to the iMac, garageband automatically switches to the external microphone. I went in to the Garageband preferences, and saw that it was set up for recording through the built-in mic, which is strange because input is clearly coming from the external.
So, I went into the iMac System preferences > sound > input. There are three options here: Internal microphone, Line-in, and Soundbooth 3.0.
What I found is that whenever I plug my earphones into the iMac, the option for 'Internal microphone' changes into an option for 'external microphone'. Now, I am fairly sure that an 'external microphone' is EXACTLY the same thing as a 'Line-in', but I'm not so sure now, so please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
How do I stop the iMac from changing 'Internal microphone' to 'External microphone'? It is very important that I am able use the earphones and the Built-in Mic at the same time.

    Hi John,
I think the only way is to get an iMic...

  • Where is the built in microphone on the Mac Book Air. I want to record my lectures.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
There's the best way, and the quickest way and they are mutually exclusive. For best audio a USB voice quality headset & microphone will stop background interference and squelch... If auto-gain locking in on the loudest sound in the room near your computer... then the built in is fine... providing you have no external speakers and turn you down your speaker volume.  They are on the left side nearer to the front than the headphone jack.

  • Is the built in microphone in the iPad 2 3G under the warranty

My microphone is broken, when ever I record something, it is all fuzzy. Is it under warranty?
    Thanks!

I saw one post where a user said dust got inside the small microphone hole. Using a vacuum cleaner removed the dust and restored the audio.

  • Is there a fan underneath the built-in microphone?

I use iChat alot and the person on the other end can hear a whooshing sound which they didn't hear when I had my PowerBook. I can hear a fan right near the built-in microphone in the left speaker. Would Apple have put a fan right beside the microphone? I can't believe this!

    ovenbun,
The left fan is about in the area just to the right of the left speaker, underneath the keyboard, from maybe esc key down to caps lock over to about the s key.

  • Turning off the built-in microphone to record in Garage Band

I have connected my acoustic guitar to my iMac (new) via a M-Audio recording interface and have switched the settings in "System Preferences" to my M-Audio device, yet the built-in microphone atop the monitor is the one recording and it won't switch off.
    Help please.

  • Specifications for the built-in microphone?

I just heard an incredibly good sounding demo song recorded with the built-in microphone.
I got curious on the specifications for the mic, does anyone know for example the frequency range the mic records?

All the specs by apple just say internal omnidirectional microphone, I think their pretty basic.
The quality seems to vary from machine to machine, mainly because of the placement of it, the ones on the screen are much better than for example the worst ones... the 12" PB where it's on the bottom case right by the fan and left speaker.

  • I want to be able to use airplay to stream audio to another iOS device, and then use that audio stream to be used when recording video instead of the built in microphone / microphone input. Is this possible?

I want to be able to use airplay to stream audio to another iOS device, and then use that audio stream to be used when recording video instead of the built in microphone / microphone input. Is this possible?

A third-party app probably cannot obtain a stream from another app. To the best of my knowledge, such a capability is not provided in the software development kit, apps being "sandboxed" from each other and so allowed to communicate only in very specific and limited ways.
I'm not completely sure what you mean by "limitations on video capture". An iPhone, to the best of my knowledge, can natively record video only through it's built-in camera, and audio while doing video recording only through the built-in microphone or mic/headphone jack. There might be a video recording app that would allow audio input from an external device connected to the dock connector, but I'm not sure.

  • How do I get the built in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record voice.

How do I get the built-in microphone to work on my IMac?  Camera works fine, but I can't record sound.

I always assummed that the mic was part of iSight (intertwined?).  The mic is situated right next to iSight.  It would seem to me the solutions would be the same some what.
Regarding the OP, I also suspect his/her problem is hardware.  It's rather unusual for the internal mic to not work yet the iSight does.

  • Is their a way to adjust the input for the built in microphone for my iPad?

Is their a way to adjust the input for the built in microphone for my iPad? What it is recording is so quiet I can barely hear anything when it plays.
Output works fine with videos and music, but not when I record something.
The sound is all the way up during the recording and during playback.

    Hi!
Generarly speaking you can't but some apps have that build-it to them. For your sound issues I recommend checking app settings.
There have been reports that some iPads had defective or disconnected microphones.  You may need to show it to an Apple Store Genius.  If they agree it is bad, you may get a new iPad on the spot.
If there is no Apple Store near you, search for an Apple Authorized Repair Center.  There may be one in your city.  In the US, <United States>.  Outside the US, <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1434>.
