Where is the Catalog?

Greetings,
How do I find the location of the catalog? When I click File > Catalog, it doesn't say.
Thanks,
Shane.

My backup application can select files, but it can't launch another application.

  • Where is the catalog? Maverick issue

After uploading Maverick, LR says it can't find my catalog. Where is it, and how do I resotre it. I'm one of the few LR users who only use LR on the fly for web galleris and watermarkeing, but I  notice right away after choosing default catalog, it's screwed up my identity plate, so maybe I should track down the catalog I was using? thanks.

thanks, found it but think just one the created after mavericks.
I back up to HD every night with super duper, I'm sure whatever was there was overwrtten by now. I do time machine, not sure this rabbit is worth it.
Just found the old catalog, and put it in pictures (via Time Machined), launched LR and it said error. So put in the new catalog, back to where I started. Identity plate is gone, not sure what other surprsies I'll encounter with this new catalog.

  • Where is the catalog in Elements 11?

I have no idea where my catalog is located, and therefore can't move it which I'd like to do. Does anyone know how to locate it?

Use the Help menu, system info section.
You'll find the location of your catalog.
The catalog is a folder (not a single file). It contains the database (catalog.pse11db) and several accessory files like caches and subfolders.
That folder may be hidden, so that you may have to tell Windows to show hidden files.
To move a catalog from Windows, move the whole catalog with its subfolders. Close the organizer, then double click on the catalog.pse11db file. That will tell the catalog manager to open the catalog and store its location in the 'custom' location section.
Important : moving the catalog does not move the picture files.
Note : I don't know about Macs, but that must be similar.

  • Where is the catalog sync feature?

Okay, first, thanks to Adobe for putting soft proofing in. Boy, did we need that one!
But where, oh where, is the thing where my laptop DB checks in with my main image DB back at the studio, refreshing the studio DB with recent edits I've done on the laptop and adding the new photos I've taken?
Serious LR users need this feature, and I for one am very dissapointed that we didn't get it.
    Or will we?

As it may not make the final release, and we wouldn't want the request to get lost in beta land, might I suggest adding the request to the Feature Request forum http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family where it can easily be tracked?  Or if you search there, you should find similar requests that you might like to add your vote to.

  • Where's the Catalog Option in Acrobat 8?

Pardon me if this question is silly but I am trying to index our PDF archives before burning them into DVDs. In Acrobat 6, I could find Catalog in one of the menus. Where can I locate that in Acrobat 8?

Thanks. How could I have repeatedly missed that. I did try Help but whenever I clicked on Help menu, I kept getting the dreaded spinning beachball, then the options just flash and disappear. By the time it stabilized, you already answered the question. Could be magic at work. :)

  • On update to 13.1, my catalog only shows what was on the camera that was connected.  Where did the rest of my (thousands of) pictures go?

After installing an upgrade from Elements 11 (it would no longer open, even with uninstall and re-installation) to Elements 13, everything was working great.  Today I did an update to Elements 13.1, and all that appears in mu catalog are pictures from the camera that was connected at the time of the update.  Because I have a small-ish SSD for my OS (Windows 7), the program is installed on the E drive.  The Catalog Manager shows only a single catalog, but I have no idea where it is located, nor where to begin to look for an older catalog file that might be somewhere else.  How do I find and recover my old catalog file?

I found the catalog file in my C drive (207mb) with a modified date of today.  Can I move the file to another drive?  The fact that it is 207mb would indicate that everything should be there- correct?  I have 200+ gigs of pictures and 800+ gigs of video.
That seems to be the right folder. You can move or copy the whole folder elsewhere and use the catalog manager to browse to the new location. Alternatively, once the new catalog is moved, you can open the Organizer with it by double clicking on the 'catalog.pse13db' file.
Is there something that changed in the view options to where I am having trouble selecting a "view all" option?  All of the folders are listed in the folder view, but my "people" view is now blank.  How do I get all folders to be viewed in the "all media" section instead of just my last import?
I have no clue about the 'people' view (I don't use it). By default, only the last import batch is shown. You have a 'sort order' menu on the left of the third line. Choose another sort order. If you are not shown 'All media', you should have a button (arrow shape pointing to the left) on the left of the third line.

  • Where is the PSE9 catalog?

I upgraded from PSE8 to 9. I had set up all my photos in c:\adobedata\photos and the catalog from PSE8 in c:\adobedata\catalog so that I could synchronise PSE8 between my desktop and laptop. When I upgraded to PSE9, the program converted my catalog.
Now my question? Has PSE9 left me catalog in the same place, or has it created a new one? If so, where is it and what is its name?
I am running Windows 7, btw.

Yup. All good. Adobe's logic escaped me for a moment. I was thinking the path would be found somewhere in Preferences. I moved the catalog folder, opened it from its new place and checked in Help>System Info to confirm PSE9 was looking in the right place now. Thanks for your help.

  • Windows 7 - Where does the LR 2 Catalog go?

    Help Please!
I am trying to move my LR2 catalog from my old computer (Windows XP) to Windows 7. Where to do you copy it on the new computer with Windows 7. What is the path? Thank you. PS Most of my photos are on an external drive.
    Debbie

Below are the Win 7 default locations from this website: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84313.html
"The Photoshop Lightroom application is the Lightroom.exe file, located in the Program Files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 folder.
The preferences file is Lightroom 3 Preferences.agprefs, located in
    Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom/Preferences/.
    The Users/[username]/My Pictures/Lightroom folder contains:
Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat, the Photoshop Lightroom database file
Lightroom 3 Catalog.lrcat.lock, which prevents you from overwriting data
The Lightroom 3 Catalog Previews.lrdata folder, which contains additional folders for preview files and data "
But you can put the catalog wherever you want it to be. The catalog doesn't have to be in the default location, nor does it have to be on the same drive as the images. Only external hard drives are not recommended for the catalog because the connection is usually slower than with internal drives.
The previews folder <lrdata> has to sit next to the catalog, or LR will create a new one.
When you move your catalog to the new computer, choose and note the location - it is good to know where your catalog resides.
Then just double-click the catalog file (it's the file with the extension <lrcat> and LR will open with this catalog.

  • Can I/How do I Rename the Folder Where All my Cataloged Images Reside

I have migrated all my images from an old W7 system to a newer system, and successfully built a new PSE catalog on the new PC.  Now I would like to rename the folder where the images actually reside.  How can I do that, PSE-wise?
I've found some options to move the PSE Catalog, but I don't think that's what I want - I want to move the media, and rebuild the catalog (and thus abandon ship on the old one).  Is that possible?

You have to export copies, and you can specify the resolution in the export dialogue. But the easiest way to provide high-resolution copies for your client is to give them full-sized JPEG images. Changing the resolution number will have no impact on the quality or the resolution. If you want to send them low-resolution images, then resize them to something like 800 x 1200 pixels. Again, the number in the resolution box has no impact on the quality. But you will have to export the copies in two export operations because you can't export two different sizes at once. You don't have to wait for the one export process to finish before you start the other one.

  • Where is the .tly file following a FULL backup so that I can do an INCREMENTAL back up next time?  I can't find it in the catalog folder.

I do a FULL back up of the Catalog to my C drive so that it gets copied onto my external back up drive with automatic back up software.  But when I try to do an INCREMENTAL back up next time I cant find the .tly file for the previous back up path.

    Hello stoneape,
What happens when you try to synchronize using Desktop Software? Do you receive any error messages?
How are you certain that you are currently enabled for wireless syncronization?

  • Where to keep the catalog

I understand it is a good idea for both safety and speed to keep the lrcat on the hard drive.  All my photos are stored on an EHD, as is, currently, my lrcat.  Since I have gotten into trouble moving things around, I'd like to hear how to move the lrcat onto the IHD, so that LR finds it there and backs it up there.

I'd like to hear how to move the lrcat onto the IHD, so that LR finds it there and backs it up there.
You can move the catalog file using Windows or Mac operating system. Just move the file (and any subfolders that are in the same directory) to wherever you want, and then double-click on the catalog file.

  • Where's the best location for the catalog file?

To ensure Lightroom operates as efficiently and smoothly as possible, is there a best place to store catalog files?  Should they be with their projects or kept centrally on the main system drive?

If you have a read of this article it will give you a good understanding on how the catalog works.

  • When I import files (copy from jpeg or copy as DNG from raw, where is the full size original stored?

I have the photos go here file, does LR5 put the untouched original there? Do I need my own file for originals and if so, how does LR5 know where to find the full size original? I have everything working but don't understand where my untouched originals go after import. Say I import off my card to My Pictures/Lightroom Catalog/ Photos go here ..... are my originals there? What if I erase my card now, do I only have partial size negatives basically? I don't understand why LR5 didnt put in an originals do here file that imports the full photo to a stock folder. I am so confused I am about ready to throw out LR5. I even bought your instructional DVD and it doesnt make where the original files location clear, it just repeats that LT5 does NOT import the original, just thumbnail and instructions, where is the program getting the photo when I double click to open it , or am I only seeing a lower resolution version of the photo and the full res is now gone because I formatted the card?

When you import photos, you can choose "Copy" or "Move" or "Copy as DNG", and then select a destination folder on your hard disk. This happens on the right hand side of the Import dialog box. So your original files go to this destination folder.
Alternatively, if your photos are already on your hard disk, you can import by choosing "Add" and the original photos remain in the existing location.
If you're not sure where the photos are, open Lightroom, go to the Library Module, and on the right hand side is the Metadata Panel. Set the dropdown to "Default", and it will show you where your photos are stored. Alternatively, you can right-click on any photo and select "Show In Finder"/"Show in Explorer" and Lightroom will take you to the exact folder where the photo is located.
So, bottom line, you are in total control of where the originals go, and if your forgot where you put them, or made a mistake, you can always find out where they are.
What if I erase my card now, do I only have partial size negatives basically?
If your import was successful, then the photos are now stored on your hard disk. So you have the full size original for Lightroom to work with.
it just repeats that LT5 does NOT import the original, just thumbnail and instructions
Lightroom does import the original, which means, in Lightroom jargon, that it records the location and metadata about the photo; in other words, Lightroom knows where the photo is, but Lightroom NEVER contains your photo, your photo is ALWAYS stored on the hard disk.
Because Lightroom now knows where your photo is located, it is important that you not manage your photos (move, edit, rename, delete) outside of Lightroom. Photo managements tasks now must be done in Lightroom. (There are advanced methods that let you manage your photos outside of Lightroom, but these would be NOT RECOMMENDED for beginners)
