Where is the column browser in itunes 12

I recently upgraded to iTunes 12, and I was surprised to find that my column browser was gone. I've searched around, and I've found several articles that say I can activate it using the View > Column Browser option, but I don't have a Column Browser option in my View menu. Any tips on how I can restore my column browser?

Hi,
This is what I see for my iPod and iPad:
Is this what you're looking for?

  • Why can't I see the column browser in iTunes 11.4?

Why can't I see the column browser in iTunes 11.4?
Just imported a CD of rare folk music that a friend gave me and want to edit the title, album name, etc like I used to.
In iTunes under "View" the column Browser options are greyed out - not available.
Seems that this is the view where editing is possible.
What can I do to bring back column browser?

Select Songs (not Artists or Albums) at top and you can use the Column browser.

  • How do I re-orient the column browser in Itunes 11

So I just updated to Itunes 11 and my view is messed up.  I had column browsers for albums and artist placed side by side, running from the top to the bottom of the screen, with the list of songs beside it.  Now the column brownsers are both at the top of the screen with the list of songs below them.  I can only see a small portion of each list and there is lots of wasted space on my screen.  There used to be buttons to select the layout of the screen, but I no longer see these.  How can I fix this?

Note that our test system may show more or different columns than yours, but what you see in this screenshot is our iTunes 11 music library in "Songs" view, sorted by artist. The major difference from prior versions of iTunes is the lack of the sidebar that gave you quick access to all of your content.
Don't worry, it's still available! We just have to turn it on. To do so, go to the View menu and choose "Show Sidebar," as shown in the image below:

I saw this on their web site... Hope it helps.

  • I upgraded my Itunes to the latest version and now it won't let me view my library with the column browser. Can i get that back?

i upgraded my Itunes to the latest version and now it won't let me view my library with the column browser. Can i get that back? I tried using the shortcut for it and nothing happens. When I try to do it from the view menu, it shows up as something I can't click on. The new library format is driving me crazy and I just want to get back to the old library view.

We need to sort out some facts here first:
    •  You cannot be running Mt. Lion on your iMac G5.  What Mac is it?  What is the Model Identifier listed in About This Mac; More Info; Hardware Overview
    •  What is the model of your Epson Scanner?
    •  Have you attempted to scan using Image Capture, located in your Applications folder?
    •  Your Palm Pilot software will only run in Snow Leopard; so depending upon which Mac you have, you will either have to:
    1)  partition your hard drive or add an external hard drive and install Snow Leopard into it to "dual-boot" when you want to access you Palm software, or
    2)  install Snow Leopard Server (now available from Apple for $20 telephone orders USA & Canda only) into Parallels 8 to run your Palm software in Mt. Lion:

  • The column browser is no longer available when trying to view music in iTunes. I'm only able to use the column browser only when viewing playlists. Why?

I noticed that after one of the recent updates to iTunes, I am unable to view my music using the column browser type view. Only when I select one of my playlists is the music displayed with the column browser. When I select Music to view the contents of my library, only the album covers are displayed on the right side. The old column browser type display is not available any more - it is grayed out. I do have "show list views for all media" checked in my Preferences / General tab.
Did Apple screw up or is it me?

    You're welcome.

  • I can't use the column browser on my iPod classic when it is hooked up to iTunes.  Did they do away with it?

When I hook my iPod Classic up to iTunes on my computer the column browser is not there and the selection to turn it on is grayed out.  Has it been done away with?  It is still there on a 5th generation Nano.

It might be the battery, it sure sounds as though it could be. What happens if you leave it to charge, does the charging symbol show, does the battery icon show full, part full or empty at any time?
If you check here; https://locate.apple.com/uk/en/  and enter your postcode in the Service box, you should see the options available to you from Apple and its Authorised Service Providers. They can advise you about the battery and you should be given the cost before you commit to spending your dosh!

  • After downloading the new iTunes, the scroll wheel scrolls way too much in the column browser and skips over 4 or 5 artists/albums every time.

Whenever I try to scroll through my artists or albums in the column browser, I suddenly feel like stuff is missing because every click of the scroll wheel brings the list down too far and it skips 4 or 5 items every time. My column browser is about 2 inches long and fits 7 items on the viewable pane at any one time. It used to work just fine, but now I'd have to have the browser more than double that size to avoid this weird problem.. and I dont really want it that big. I suppose I'll just make it that big unless there's some sort of solution, but I'd rather not have to change my personalized setup because iTunes decided to change something like that randomly. Would anyone happen to know how to fix this, or at the very least know what I'm talking about (and maybe you're experiencing it too).

I have stated what I was able to glean from the report. If you disagree so be it.
I will say that I heard the same comment numerous times in the past of years of usage without problems. Only to have them tell me later oh by the way I removed the code that you suggested I should remove and the performance increased.
As I said it is your Mac and you can do with it as you wish. I am just trying to help you solve your problem.

  • Why is the column browser greyed out when viewing iPod music?

    Hello,
I can not display the "column browser" for my iPod Touch, like I can for my iTunes Music Library (iTunes for Windows)
To confirm we're on the same page: the column browser is the specific display/view with "Artists" and "Albums" filters (and optionally 'Genres" , "Composers" and a few other not-so-useful options) in Columns at the top of the screen: selecting different combinations allows you to easily filter the "results" panel below, which displays all the individual songs that match those filters.
I have seen other questions on how to display the column browser, which relate more to the iTunes Library Music, opposed to the iPod touch music. (FYI the fix for the Library is to click "songs" and then the option for column browsing is available in "View/Column Browser/Show Column Browser")
If i display the sidebar, and select 'Music' under my iPod Touch, it just displays ALL songs. The option for "show column browser" is greyed out and not selectable. If i hige the sidebar, and click "Music" in the top left column under the name of my iPod, i get the same view. If i click "Music" from the big centered bar at the top of iTunes (but below the standard File/Edit menubar) this just shows my Sync options...
So question is: How do I display the column browser for my iPod music?
If i can't, question is: Why did you hide this feature and can you please bring it back?
And a general comment: Please let the brilliant Jony Ive loose on the iTunes design ASAP: it desperately needs a designer's eye to make this interface more intuitive. There are about 5 incongruous button/menu themes utilised at different places, and none of them are particularly well thought out. I'm a student of the school of thought where you can (if needed) utilise a few different interface design styles on one application to suit different users and different scenarious: but they need a talented designer to harmonise. The current iTunes is like years of changes piled on top of each other with no clear direction. Not an enjoyable experience!

    Hello,
All outputs from the SCXI module are measured in differential mode. You can still mix differential and single ended measurements (if you use the remaining channels of your daq board).
The easiest way to mix modes is with virtual channels. All SCXI analog input channels will be differential, while you can make other virtual channels differential or single ended. If you don't want to use virtual channels, you can use AI Hardware Config in LabVIEW to change the mode.
    Hope this helps. Regards,

  • Why can't I use the Column Browser for my iPod when connected to the computer?

In iTunes 11, I can use the Column Browser while viewing my music library on the computer.  But it's inexplicably not available for viewing the music on my iPod when it's connected to the computer to sync.
The Column Browser is the simplest, easiest, most elegant way for me to review what's on my iPod, and create Playlists from my music and CD books.  It was available in 10.7 and is available on the computer, why not the iPod????!!!???
Why mess around changing something that isn't broken - after all these years why can't that option still be available?  It doesn't have to be the default, just be available. Will I have to downgrade to 10.7 yet again????
And you don't even have a relevant category for me to choose from below!!  It makes sense to me that you provide a general "Using iTunes" category.

Thanks for your reply, but I've already done that and the Column Browser options are completely grayed out.  I've taken a screen shot and hope I can paste it in here.  You'll see I have the sidebar open.  That's the way I prefer to deal with iTunes.
This happened after I updated to iTunes 11.0.4.  Perhaps that changed the setting options. I think I had the Column Browser option prior to that, but I just got a new iPod and I was busy loading stuff, so not completely sure if it worked before the update.  But I think I would have noticed, because it bugs me so much not to have the option.

  • Why can't I use the column browser on my playlists?

I use large playlists to load my ipods, ipads and apple tvs.  The column browser use in playlists was a huge advantage in previous Itunes versions but is not available in Itunes 11.

I read in another thread that if you click on songs, and then hit Ctrl+J you can choose the columns.

  • Is there a way to place the column browser next to the sidebar vertically?

I updated to the newest itunes and I am thoroughly frustrated trying to navigate it.  Is there any way to place the column browser next to the side bar?  Its really inefficient trying to scroll through it over the library.  Also I want my default interface to be as close to the previous version of itunes as possible (without the Song, Artist, Album, etc headings).  Basically I want the Songs head to be my default when I open itunes, but instead it always sends me to the thumbnails of artists.
Sorry for the multipart thread, I'm just fedup trying to figure out all these issues myself.

Take a look at this link, http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/29/5-tips-make-itunes-look-normal/

  • The column browser disappears when i try to resize it

This is weird.  If I open iTunes, I can adjust the size of the column broser by grabbing the bar and dragging it up and down (to see more or less artists, etc).  However, when I start playing a song and try to do this, the column browser animates away, as if i had turned it off.  What is happening?  I'm running iTunes 10 on windows.

    by god you're right!
I double-click to play a song, then click on the bar and the column browser goes away.
but if after double-clicking to play a song I highlight a different song, I am able to adjust the window size as normal.
still seems like a bug, but this is a helpful solution for sure.  thanks, rmscott!

  • Is there anyway i can put the column browser on the side instead of the top?

Is there anyway i can put the column browser on the side instead of the top?

No, I don't mean adding a column (I did that right away). I'm referring to the 'Songs, Albums, Artists ,Genres, Videos and Radio' at the top. The fact that 'Songs' means something completely different in Classical Music (all instrumental are called 'Pieces' and 'Songs' are limited to works with voice) is something I've had to resign to over the years; this further bias against that kind of music makes iTunes an even poorer fit. Too bad there's no music player optimized for Classical Music...

  • HT1420 Where is the store menu in iTunes.  I just got a new computer.  I disconnected the old computer and want to authorize the new one.  There is no file menu or store menu anywhere I can see.

Where is the store menu in iTunes?  I updated my computer and want to authorize it.  I deauthorized the old computer (and probably my desktop at a different location, and want to authorize the new one.  The help says that I need to clickon the store menu in iTunes.  I do not see any store menu.  I can access songs that I purchased a while back, but cannot download any new purchases.  If I cannot get this worked out, how do I recoup my money for the new songs?  Also, can I transfer the songs I purchased to another service?  Brad

It's in the same spot on a Windows machine as well

  • Where is the File sharing in Itunes window

Where is the File sharing in Itunes window?

Normally set in iTunes->Preferences->Sharing. However, with the paucity of details, such as computer, OS,  iTunes version, and what you're trying to do, just a WAG.
