Where is the content aware move tool?

I can't find the content aware move tool amongst the other icons!! Here's a screenshot of what I can see. All of my software is brand new too.

It’s the fourth tool from the top nested under the spot healing tool. Right-click on the icon or use two fingers on the trackpad. Alternatively keep pressing shift+J to tab through the tool choices.

Using the content aware move tool, I want to move an item from one image to another image but it does not seem to work. I think I need two layers on one document so how do I do this

    Good day!
A simple Paste does not work for you?
It should place the clipboard content as a new Layer which you can then move around.
If there is any chance that the elements need to be scaled, rotated etc. I would prefer to place them as Smart Objects (File > Place …) and do the masking that is specific to the images themselves in those.

  • Where's the "Content Aware Fill" tool?

This isn't really a question because I know it's not in the current beta version of LR 4 but I sure was hoping Adobe would add it!  That's about the only tool in Photoshop that a photographer could REALLY REALLY use because of so many little irritating "eye polluting" objects like telephone wires and poles, signs and little flaws in nature that can ruin a perfectly wonderful shot.  I can't afford to buy Photoshop, and this has been one of the best tools Adobe could develop, but it should be where photographers are "living" the most - and that's in Lightroom!  If it's not in this version, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add it to the wish list.  You would make so many of us very happy and expedite our editing processes when we have to shoot something we know we have to edit because of the eye pollution.  THANKS!

There are no great technology issues involved here, just marketing decisions, including the respective feature sets in PS, PSE and LR.  However a significant new function, as is Content Aware Fill, is appropriate for inclusion in a major level release (L3 > L4) rather than in an earlier point release.  Does anyone seriously believe that Content Aware Fill will not be part of LR until v5.0?
There are far more technical difficulties than you may believe ... further research on the differences between the two types of apps and how they work may be enlightening ...
I have some confidence that "if" Content Aware Fill was going to be a part of LR4, it would be in the beta for the simple fact it would need considerable Real World testing ... as I am sure such a feature in a parametric workflow would be a considerable hit on performance and resources ... where the engineers would want as much feedback from users as they could get since having a duplicate of every possible OS and hardware combination on hand in the office to test such an extensive feature isn't possible.
It's possible, however, I think, quite unlikely we will see this feature in the very near future ... though, I would like very much to be wrong.

  • Moving the selection in Content Aware Move tool

I have a semi low light image of a person standing on a beach .. he is on the wrong side .. I select him with the selection tool, and then try to use the Content Aware Patch tool to move him to the right .. but only half of the selection moves
It is a little strange because the person is pure black (contra jour) and I am trying to move him to a section of the image which is fairly similar

I think you want to try out the Content-Aware Move Tool, not the Patch Tool. The Patch Tool is used to remove subjects, not move them.
The Patch tool does a great job of copying selected pixels to a new location when in destination mode.  The new CA Move tool is a variation on this that uses CA Fill to fix the space thos pixels were copied from.   In actual fact the Patch tool is still doing a better job that CAM at seamlessly copying pixels with the distortion CAM seems to introduce.
Martin Evening introduced a really neat trick using the Patch tool in Destination mode.  I have actually managed to find a pdf of the relevant chapter in and old version of Photoshop CS for Photographers on the Pixel Genius site:
    http://www.pixelgenius.com/tips/evening-healing.pdf
Check out page four.  The secret step is nudging the selection after using FT and moving it.  That's what prompts the seamless intergration at the new location.

  • Feature request -- "seamless tones and colors" to content aware move tool

The Content Aware Move Tool works pretty doggone well, except that differences in brightness or tones in the selection's new position frequently fail to match. For instance, moving a bird from near the top of the frame, where the sky is lighter blue, to nearer the horizon in the middle of the frame, where the sky is deeper blue, reveals a huge difference in the sky color. In the past, I would put the selection on a new layer, clone out the bird's original location, then use the Auto Blend Layers>stack images>seamless tones and colors to match things up.
Is there any way of integrating that "seamless tones and colors" into the new move tool? Or, barring that, have some way of selecting "move to new layer" when using the Content Aware Move Tool, so that after the move, one could merge the layers using the Auto Blend function?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

Thanks for the feedback. We will evaluate the customer feedback and consider some of the requests for a future version of Photoshop. I agree with Pierre that posting your request to the feedback link may allow it to be heard better as this is primarily a forum for problems with the Photoshop CS6 beta.

  • Content Aware Move Tool Issue

    Using a large, 16x20 240dpi photograph....
I created a completely non-feathered mask of a subject against a background (mask-view reveals black and white with no greys)
I moved the subject with the content aware move tool. The portion where the sudbject used to be is clean and devoid of any trace of the subject.
    However,
The subject, now moved, is showing feathering in random parts of their formerly masked outline. The subject's hair is feathered to the point that the subject is missing nearly all of their hair which bleeds into the background. This is not a case of a bad mask. This was the doing of the content fill.

    U
You will see the in the "moved" image, the subject's head exhibits feathering despite the clean mask displayed above.
Platform: Mac OSX Lion, 2011 Mac Pro
By the way, the content aware fill algorithm did an remarkable job at filling in the missing house details!  Just plain genius!

  • Content-Aware Move Tool no longer working.

Background:  I use Windows 7.  I recently starting using Lightroom (downloaded 5.5 64 bit a few days ago).  I edited a photo in there, exported it, opened it in Photoshop CC 64 bit. My goal was to remove a pole with the content-aware move tool and an added layer.  At first, it worked like it usually does.  However, I attempted to do the same with another photo and it began saying  "selected area empty" even when I had my new layer selected, forcing me to perform my edits on the background layer. I have tried opening all types of files: CR2, JPEG, TIFF, PSD, including photos that I know were never edited in Lightroom and which I had previously been able to use this tool on.  Photoshop is not allowing me to use the content-aware move tool on any layer besides the background in any of these formats.
Furthermore, it no longer performs an automatic fill-in based upon the surrounding area when I delete the content that I have moved.  At times, it provides me with a "Fill" window  (at which point I can manually select "Content Aware") or it provides me with no option and simply deletes the selected area INCLUDING the background behind it.
I have tried restarting the programs with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated as this has pretty much halted by ability to work. Thank you!

Alright, so I downloaded CC 2014.  I opened it and first attempted using the content aware move tool on a photo that I had edited ONLY in Photoshop prior to this.  The tool worked again.
Then I attempted opening a few photos that I had been editing in Lightroom earlier today and then had exported as a new file so I could apply some corrections in Photoshop (i.e., removing stuff with the content aware tool). These files (I attempted a file that I had exported as a CR2 (original file type) and a file that I had exported as a PSD) are exhibiting the same issue I discussed above.
I closed the program completely.  Reopened the first photo (the one that had only been edited in Photoshop prior to this) and now the issue is reoccurring with that file too.
The issue seems to reside with the files that I am trying to move from Lightroom to Photoshop.  Unfortunately, once this issue occurs with one photos, it seems to be ruining my ability to use the content aware tool with all my files, whether they were ever touched in Lightroom or not.
Rebooting the program and my computer has not helped.

  • I can't find the Content Aware Move in the trial photoshop CC!

    Hey there,
I'm new to photoshop, and have been watching the turtorial videos but can't seem to find the content aware move any where!!I have the trial version for Photoshop CC.
    Please help!

You do not mention whether you are Mac or Windows but you can find it in the tool bar or cycle through the tools with the Shift+J shortcut:
However, in my setup where I have the tool bar placed seperately on my second monitor I notice that cycling will not get to the Content-Aware Movel tool. Notice the absence of the J on the tool. I have no idea why Photoshop does that.
(Running Ps CC on Windows 7 64-bit.)
