Where is the desktop picture stored if you set it from the finder?

I've read several discussions here asking where this is stored but none of them address the location when you use the Finder to set a desktop picture. I've looked in all Libary folders and Safari and can't find it. How can I locate it?

Finder takes the actual directory of the picture you set as a desktop background and the "com.apple.desktop.plist" file in ~/Library/Preferences points to the directory of the picture you set as the desktop background. It's not stored in any other folder

  • Where are Hotmail emails stored if you copied them from the server?

I downloaded all my emails off the server, or should I say copied and left a copy of them on the server. Now I can't find them on my computer. IT did say they were saved successfully, and all.
Because I knew that Microsoft would screw up one day, and they did when they forced everyone off "HOTMAIL". Now they themselves can't reverse the process, that would be too simple, for us normal users, and I honestly believe that they don't know how to do it either, so the make excuses.
But when they moved me from, "HOTMAIL" to "OUTLOOK", I lost all mu sub-folders and I want to look in my backups to see if I can fine them, but don't know where to start. I need the info in there for legal purposes.
I need those sub-folder emails/ Somebody please help me.
    Thank You

Can you set up the mobil phone  samsung stratospher to print to the hp officejet pro 8600?

Bettielittle118, Hope you are doing well and welcome to the HP forums.
Yes you shoud be able to print from the Samsung Stratosphere as long as is running Android
If what you want is to print from anywhere you must use HP ePrint go here to see how to start with this super free service.
This will give more control but it can be use only when the device and the printer are in the same network i.e. Home Network

  • Where is the account picture stored after initial setup?

where is the account picture stored after initial setup?

Are you looking to change the image? If so go to system prefs, go to accounts. You'll see the image that you see at login, by clicking on it you'll be given a drop down with all the images which you can select a different right there. If you go to the root directory in the libray folder you'll see a folder user pictures they are in there. The root directory is the main device on your hardrive, you can open finder and see it listed in the sidebar. Hope this helps!

  • HT5262 where does the information get stored when you back up your i-phone? It just reports its done but I have no idea where to find it if I need it again!

Where does the information get stored when you sync/back up your i-phone. I have no idea where to look if I need it again!
    Thanks

You can chhose the backup when you would reset your device. In this case you would get the option, during the set up process, to choose your backup and restore your device from it.
(You can find a few information e.g. size and date of your backup in "Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage")

  • HOw do I change the desktop pictures on macbook air?

I simply can not change the desktop pictures on my macbook air. If anyone  knows please help. Thanks.

Right-Click Desktop, Choose "Change Desktop Background..."
There you can choose the desktop image. If you want a custom one,
    Choose "Set Desktop Picture".

Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back.

I would start with some basic troubleshooting.
    REPAIRING DISK PERMISSIONS -
NOTE: refer to article "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature" found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452 - for the actual apple article on these step. ----
    - click finder in the bottom dock, and in the window that opens, select applications in the left column - scroll through until you see the 'Utilities' folder and double click to open it.  Then double click on 'Disk Utility'
    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
    - ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
    - click the button at the bottom that says 'Repair Disk Permissions'
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying 'Permissions repair complete'
Dan Frankes has written an excellent article for Macworld on "Permissions" and the need to repair them - see - http://www.macworld.com/article/52220/2006/08/repairpermissions.html.    Another good web site is - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/durepairfns.html.

    - restart your computer hold down command + R keys on the keyboard to boot you into Lion / Mountain Lion Recovery mode
    - select english as your main language then the continue arrow
    - select "Disk Utility" on the resulting screen then 'Disk Utility' ---
    - When prompted to select a disk volume or image, select the 'Macintosh HD' in the left column
    - ensure the the "first aid" tab is highlighted blue in the middle of the screen
    - click the button at the bottom that says 'REPAIR DISK' .......NOT "Repair disk permissions"
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying "The Macintosh HD appears OK"
If you get any other message OTHER than "The Macintosh HD appears OK", like "the Macintosh HD was repaired successfully" run the "Disk Repair" again, until it displays  "The Macintosh HD appears OK".
Once done, restart the computer as normal

  • "Set the Desktop Picture" command does not work in certain instances

I've decided to take a try at using automator. Anyways I've created a very simple workflow.
Get Specified Finder Items (points to an image file)
    Set the Desktop Picture
Now this usually works when the desktop is set statically to a specified image. But when I set the desktop to change the picture periodically, the automator action fails to change the picture to the specified image, when executed.
Is this a bug? Is there any workaround for this?

Your workflow actually is changing the static desktop picture, it's merely failing to then switch off the "Change picture" feature.
The "Change picture" feature has a somewhat misleading name in that it's not actually changing your static desktop picture at all. Your static desktop picture remains in place as a new dynamic picture layer is continually drawn and redrawn directly on top of it.
I don't see any way of testing for or turning off the desktop slideshow automatically, short of writing a GUI AppleScript that opens System Preferences and clicks through to the relevant toggle setting. If you file feedback with Apple they might take a look at it.

  • Can I scale the desktop pictures on a 15.4" Macbook Pro?

Is there a way to scale the desktop picture so it fits the screen?  A lot of my wallpapers are suddenly  too big for the display with the end result that either they don't fit or they're stretched out and pixelated (because the original image just isn't that big) and it's hard to see the actual picture.  I have an old Powerbook which has scaling options - stretch to fit screen, tile, center, etc - but my new Macbook doesn't, unless there's some trick I haven't figured out yet.  (I don't have the Retina display, if it makes a difference.)

Have you tried a different resolution yet?
Open System Preferences > Displays > Display > Scaled
The pre installed desktop images are formatted to fit the default MacBook Pro resolution.
For the 13"   > Supported resolutions: 1280 by 800 (native)
For the 15"  > Supported resolutions: 1440 by 900 (native)

  • 2007 MBP (10.5.8) DVI to HDMI to flatscreen, get the desktop picture but nothing else-no dock, no menu bar, no desktop clutter, no arrow. Any ideas?

    hmmm-
    Anyway-
I connect to the TV and get my desktop image no problem-beautiful-but that's all.
No dock, no menu bar, no desktop clutter, no windows, no pointer.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    S

Your external monitor is in Extended Desktop mode.
There are three modes in which you can view your MBP on the TV:
    1. Clamshell mode, in which the MBP's own display is closed and you have an external keyboard and mouse or trackpad connected to it. The menu bar and Dock appear on the external display and you can set its resolution to your liking.
    2. Mirrored mode, in which both screens display exactly the same thing at the same resolution. The maximum resolution of the lower-resolution display, whichever it is, will be the maximum for both screens in Mirrored mode. So if you connect a 1920 x 1080 HDTV to a 13" MBP with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800, 1280 x 800 will be the highest resolution the TV can be set to display in Mirored mode. And if you connect a 1024 x 768 projector to the same MBP, the MBP's built-in screen will switch to 1024 x 768 while the projector is connected in Mirrored mode.
    3. Extended Desktop mode, in which the TV serves as a second expanse of desktop onto which you can drag windows from the built-in display by dragging them off one edge of the built-in display. You can choose whether the desktop is extended to the left, right or top of the built-in display by dragging the rectangle that represents the TV in the Displays pane of System Preferences. You can also drag the menu bar onto the TV in the Displays pane of System Preferences, making the TV set your primary display, with the menu bar and Dock on it. In Extended Desktop mode, unlike Mirrored mode, you can set the resolutions of the TV and the built-in display separately, to optimize the image quality on both of them.
Your TV is now in Extended Desktop mode. Open any window on the MBP's display and drag it off the left and right edges of the screen. You will see it slide onto the TV screen on one side or the other. Now go to the Displays pane of System Preferences, click the Arrangement tab, and arrange the positions of the screens and menu bar as you prefer.
You can switch to Mirrored mode if you wish; to toggle back and forth between ED and M mode, just press Command+F1. Mirroring is simpler to understand, but the image quality on an HDTV set that has a typical 1920 x 1080 native resolution will be poor (blurry) if it's forced to operate at a lower resolution to match that of a 13" or 15" MBP display. You cannot set different resolutions on the two displays in Mirrored mode.

    Best regards, John.

because there is absolutely no mention in my System Preferences of either Users & Groups nor Start Up Items.
    John,
William's solution was much easier - just for completeness sake: The preferences panes to edit your startup items moved between the Mac OS X updates: I forgot that the "Users&Groups" preference pane used to be called "Users" in Mac OS X 10.6; it is the panel that you use to create new User accounts; and earlier systems had a separate preferences panel "Login" to enable and to disable the applications that are launched at login. Both are now combined in "Users&Groups". Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase with the wrong Preferences panel.
    Regards

  • When I click on Safari Icon it opens, but under the desktop picture. How can I get it on top of it?

When I click on Safari Icon it opens, but under the Desktop picture. How can I get it on top,so I could see it?

I would open a guest account and see if the problem persist in this new enviroment.
Boot into Safe Boot Mode and see if the problem is present,  this turns off third party plug-in's and extentions.
This will give us something to go on and recommend the next step.

  • How do you setup a user mobile account, with the home directory stored locally and not synced to the server?

I want to be able to setup a user mobile account, with the home directory stored locally and not synced to the server.  What is the best way to do this? I am running Server 10.6 with 10.6 clients.  Open Directory will be used to authenticate and manage preferences.   Also, this one account will be used simultaneosly in a computer lab setting, so files will be stored locally in the client, hence the need to NOT sync to the server.  Any Ideas?

You will only have to do this step once. Obviously you want to use the user's shortname here.
Then, you will see this as an option in WGM:
