Where is the EXPANSION SLOT UTILITY in 10.7?

My understanding is that it is located in syteme/library/core services but its not there for me.
Was it renamed, moved or removed for 10.7?
Thanks

It's there in my 10.7.5 boot volume. Use Pacifist to extract it from the Install Mac OS X Lion.app.

  • Early model Mac Pro's Expansion Slot Utility not working with 10.5.6 update

I'm reading that the 10.5.6 update may have crippled the Expansion Slot Utility for early Mac Pros.
I have a 2.66 Mac Pro, and I just installed a Kona 3 card in slot 3. Already had an ATI 1900xt in slot 1. However, the Expansion Slot Utility program detects only the ATI Card.
However, in System Preferences - the PCI column clearly shows slots 1 & 3 are occupied and with drivers installed for the respective boards... The Kona card works for video preview (further indicating that it's installed correctly - but the Expansion Slot Utility is broken), but I understand that the Kona card is operating at the 1x speed, thus crippling it...
Apple please fix this... Any administrators or someone in the loop care to elaborate please...
    Thanks,
    Lonnie

So, here's the deal. Running the Expansion Slot Utility still works for our model of computer - it just doesn't register correctly within the program. This is only a cosmetic flaw. I've confirmed this with AJA and in System Prefs under PCI columns.
Also, AJA recommends 4Lane, slot 3. There it lies. Furthermore slot 4 concerns me - too close to drive bays for proper air circulation and the propensity for over heating.
The main issue of not sleeping has been answered by AJA. Their Kona 3 card does not support sleep.
Guess I'll be turning my computer off instead of sleeping it after hours - no biggee...

  • Expansion Slot Utility not detecting DeckLink HD Extreme Card

I just installed a DeckLink HD Extreme card in my Mac Pro today including all of the software and drivers. When I went into the Expansion Slot Utility it showed up but said the card was running below the maximum supported speed. So I picked a configuration that would work best for the cards that are in the machine. After restarting and opening the Expansion Slot Utility the card was no longer being detected. I even tried going back to the old configuration uninstalling and reinstalling the software and still it was not detected. Any help would be much appreciated.

Leopard and 2008 don't need or support the utility. The slots are fixed to begin with. Only the 1st gen Mac Pro needed it.

  • Expansion Slot Utility not working -- How to fix / Get a fresh copy?

    I want to configure my PCIe slots to 8x 8x 1x 8x...
The reason for this is because I'm fitting an ATi X1900 with a passive cooler (Noise!), and it won't fit in the double-height slot.
All the info suggests running 8x v. 16x will make no difference: http://www.barefeats.com/quad14.html
However, my Expansion Slot Utility won't run. It worked fine the first time, when I looked at it, but now -- no go.
The 'Don't Show This Utility Again' button was definitely NOT checked.
I don't want to have to re-install the whole OS just to get a working ESU...can I download a fresh one from anywhere?

    I DID read your post:
Hatter...you can't run it from the Utilities folder...it won't work. I tried. Only running it from the CoreServices folder worked.
    So is that now false?
I launched the copy that I have that I put in /Utilities and confirmed that it will launch and works fine.
Next, I checked and saw that there was an option when you launch it to "not show again" in the window.
There must be something wrong on your end. So don't tell me I didn't read your post (or Ned's) and I did see that you had it open in back. Couldn't tab to it.
But.... it sounded like... you tried to confirm and re-launch it again. At least that is what I would do, to test whether it can be launced, rather than to say "can't be launched except from CoreServices" which I know to be FALSE.
No where did you say, "okay, it launches now from Utilities."
So be clear - it ain't easy.

  • Where are the memory slots on the HP Elitebook 8440p?

Hello, I have an HP EliteBook 8440p, with the serial number: {Personal Information Removed} and the product number: SK119UC#ABA
I have 2 memory slots. 2x2GB for a total of 4GB system memory. I found one of the memory slots right on the bottom of the laptop (it had a tiny picture of a ramstick). I would like to find the other one, but I don't know where it is, so I'm asking for help on locating it. This is the laptop I have, I believe. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02030597&prodSeriesId=4095872
And so, the max RAM I can achieve is 8GB and I would love to replace the current ramsticks with a 2x4GB for a total of 8GB.
    Please and thank you!

Omg, thank you so much for everything! I am definitely going to purchase the ones you've recommended! You've helped me so much!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!

  • Hi, how do I back up my iPhoto library to Lightroom, so its also on an external hard drive, where is the Back up utility?

Hi, somehow I imported all of my iPhoto library into Lightroom, which is saved to an external hard drive, but now I cannot remember how I did that...and I am looking to update the additional photos i've put into iPhoto to Lightroom...
    Thanks for any advice...Eric

As a mich more powerful app I think you'll find that Lightroom is also quite capable of "uploading, screening, and deleting unwanted photos."
The point about using both is that you have an overly complex workflow -  and that leads to situations like the one you have now, where you can't recall the workflow you used.
Put another way, it's like wrting your novel part on Word and part in TextEdit. Which bit goes where? The best advice is to pick one horse and ride it.
Do don't "import photos to the Finder" you export them from iPhoto to the Finder. File -> Export....
On your Mac you have Time Machine as a back up application. There are also many, many others. Search on

  • Where is the file management utility on my HP Pavilion dv5-1150us Entertainment notebook pc?

I am trying to hookup a WD My Passport Ultra 2TB external drive for backup on my notebook.  It tells me to check the file management utility to see if the WD File Setup is listed.  How do I go to and find that utility?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41698.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below.
    Chipset Driver - Windows Vista.
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Where is the Bulk Load Utility?

    Hi,
the document below references the Bulk Load Utility. I got the 9.1.0.2 packages (p8484010_9202 and p9070428_9102) I haven't seen this utility as it was mentioned in the documentation: InstallServer/Xellerate/db/oracle/Utilities/oimbulkload
Oracle® Identity Manager, Tools Reference Release 9.1.0.2, E14763-02
    Bulk Load Utility
The Bulk Load utility is aimed at automating the process of loading a large amount of data into Oracle Identity Manager. It helps reduce the downtime involved in loading data. You can use this utility either immediately after you install Oracle Identity Manager or at any time during the production lifetime of Oracle Identity Manager. The Bulk Load utility can use either CSV files or database tables as the source of data. Data imported into Oracle Identity Manager is automatically converted into OIM Users or accounts provisioned to OIM Users.
    Have you ever gotten it?
    Thanks,
    Renato.

The oimbulkload folder is in the zip file 'root' folder.

  • Memory Slot Utility "memory modules are installed in the recommended slots"

I've got two Mac Pros that give me this message. Every time I boot them up the Memory Slot Utility gives me the message that my memory modules are installed in the recommended slots.
This started after I installed an additional 8GB of RAM, bringing them up to 16GB. 8x2GB sticks.
I checked the login items and it's not there, so what else could I be missing?

I have this problem too on a Mac Pro Quad Early 2009.
Has 2x4GB + 2x1GB Runs fine with 10GB, but everytime I log in the memory utility pops up as if I have a problem.
How do I stop it annoying me?

  • X1900 and expansion slots fan

Hang in there with this one, it gets kinda long:
    1) Bought X1900 for my dualcore 2.3, and the graphics kick butt!!! No way can I go back to the 6600.
    2) It did make some annoying fan noises on startup, and also when launching games it would spool right up and then go back down. It does come up again but usually only under hard use so you're busy shooting or whatever (CoD, Doom3, Warbirds) and can't hear it much.
    3) This is where it gets weird. I thought I'd try the artic cooling Accelero X2 cooler, supposed to be excellent and guys have used it on their mac pros with good results. Problem is, on G5, the cooler will interfere with the clear plastic air deflector in the recessed area.
So I made up a new deflector using lexan that didn't have the recessed area (ie, its flat), installed it and ran computer like that for a couple days. None of the temps changed (I suspect the recess on stock part is to force airflow through the 6600 cooling fins, the X1900 having its own fan/cooler does not require this). This new deflector allows the Artic X2 cooler to go in with no issues.
Today I installed the Artic X2 cooler, temps are the same and the noise is the same. Thats not right (look online for all the reviews including mac pros and temp drops and noise drops are huge) Then it hit me, the noisy fan is NOT just the 1900, it is the small fan at the front (hardware monitor calls it the "Expansion Slots Intake" fan). When you launch a game, it winds up to 3000rpm and that is causing the noise. So the question is, is there a quieter fan to put in there?
Also, I'm thinking this fan gets it speed from the slots power consumption, as they seem to match. The 6600 used to run at 65 degrees C all the time, the stock X1900 ran at 55 all the time, and still 55 with new cooler so there is no reason for that fan to spool up like that based on temps.I'm also thinking the graphics proc temp is a local sensor, not right off the card.
Thoughts on any of this? Sorry for the long post but it needed explaining. I'd like to quiet that fan down...

Not familiar with the dual-cores, but on the earlier G5s that fan (known to HM as the "PCI Slot Fan" on this Ancient DP2 G5) is controlled by the slot values, not by a temp sensor.
Some of the cooling kits for other cards, e.g. the Verax G03 on the 9800proSE, suggest that the fan with, presumably, relatively modest demands, pick up the power from the Molex connector for the optical drive. Don't think the reason was stated - but it was possibly that the increased power demand caused the "PCI Slot Fan/Expansion Slots Intake" fan to rev-up and cancel out the benefits of the new, quieter fan.
This is not much help with a variable-speed fan controlled by a temp sensor on the graphics card, which has to be plugged in to the card.
What speed/value did the "Expansion Slots Intake" fan run at with the 6600? With the 'standard' X1900?
It's running at 37% with an X800 (variable-speed card fan - plugged into card) on this Venerable DP2.
BTW The Service Manual is here
    http://akserver.dyndns.org/macosx/hw/asm/PowerMac/PowerMac-G3-G4-G5/PowerMac-G5/ powermac_g5.pdf
but doesn't really cover this sort of thing.
Possibly you could contact Arctic for info on installing in a G5.

  • ThinkStation S20 Expansion Slot tool

What kind of tool is required to remove the Explansion Slot cover. There appears to be a screw of some type that requires removal to access the expansion slot. However, I do not recognize the type of screw that is involved.
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Are you referring to the screw that is installed in each IO slot around the bracket area (near the rear of where the adapter card would install)?
If so, this is not a "serviceable" screw so to speak.  That screw is actually a stud that is a tool-less feature to help retain adapter cards.  Should be no reason to have to remove it as adapter cards should have a U shaped opening on the bracket that goes around the stud.  Simply remove the adapter blank (if there is one, install your card, re-engage the swing arm, and you're good to go.

  • Expansion Slot Fan running at high speed after installing NVIDIA Quadro 4000

I've noticed that after installing the new NVIDIA Quadro 4000 for Mac on my Mac Pro with Mac OS X 10.6.7 with the newly released NVIDIA drivers (03/22/2011) the Expansion Slot Fan is running at a VERY HIGH speed (between 1,200rpm and 2,100rpm), if I go back the the NVIDIA GT120 everything will be normal with the Fan speed (around 800rpm), does enybody have experienced the same issue ?, thanks

Sorry, that I can’t really offer much help...
Did you install the latest “standalone” driver update...?
Should be currently: GPU  “256.01.00f03v7”... CUDA “4.0.14".
The driver has to be present before the card is installed...
Check your latest Mac Pro EFI Firmware update... should be version 1.4.
Run a general maintenance utility like, OnyX, Cocktail, TechTool Pro, Disk Warrior etc.
    Restart your system...

  • Memory slot utility

    Hi everyone
I have just upgraded my mac pro early 2009 with an ATI 5870 and an extra 1gig of ddr3 ram.
All seems to be fine no problems all the ram checks out ok and is working but this utility keeps telling me everytime I boot up or log out and into another profile that the memory modules are installed in the correct slots which is really nice to know but does it have to tell me this every time as once is enough.
I have tried moving the memory modules around as slots 1 2 3 had the base ram installed at the factory I then added the extra 1 gig in the 4th slot and started getting the message as stated above. So I swapped the ram around with one of the base ram sticks and put one of them in the 4th slot still the same but when you remove the ram from slot 4 and boot up with 3gig of ram its all happy again.
So I then placed the ram in slot 4 3 and 2 leaving the 1st slot empty and the utility tells me it is the wrong configuration which is fine as thats expected as it will not give optimised preformance i just wanted to see its reaction.
I have phoned apple and they gave me a number for a local shop and the guy there said he has had this happen as well just make sure software and firmware are up to date and it should clear which of course they are  and I have double checked.
So for now I went into system on mac HD and then into core services and removed the memory slot utility and placed it somewhere else for safe keeping and it has stopped now but thats because it can't use the utility.
I am stumped I can't see this being hardware it seems it could be software or a bug not sure either way I am covered under warranty but I just want to get to the bottom of this other people have reported this on these forums but not mentioned how they got on.
My next step is to reinstall lion I have my old osx leopard cd's also and then I can reinstall everything else from scratch but this seems extreeme
If anyone has any ideas I would be really gratefull
    Kind Regards
    Martin

Thanks for the replies and the suggestions much appreciated for now I have disabled the memory slot utility as I know the memory is installed correctly so I don't need it.
I went into the finder then into systems and then core services and removed the memory slot utility which is no problem all fixed the only thing that does concern me is if it is a problem that needs addressing because if I need a new processor board I would rather apple pay for it while I am with applecare as those babies cant be cheap.
My applecare service expires next september so I will keep an eye on things for now.
I have done some more checks my ram is fine no problems my system checks out ok and all is running fine as it has for the past two years since I bought my mac pro.
All my ram is apple certified ram and they are all equal memory modules 1gig in size each.
Memory can be added to slots 1 2 3 no messages but any ram added to slot 4 and it tells me the memory modules are installed correctly which really warms my heart but just don't tell me this every time I boot up and log in and out it tends to get on your nerves after a while.
Also if we do something that is not correct like put memory in slot 4 3 2 leaving slot 1 empty it then gives you a longer message telling you its all wrong and to swap them around which is fine as I did that on purpose just to see what would happen.
So do you think I am worrying to much and I should just chill out on this I found my fix just take the memory slot utility out of core services and it is all fine or like X423424X said enabling root though I went for the safe option and just removed the memory utility.
I know I am not alone I have searched the web and on this forum and there are others out there and everyone has different solutions the guy I spoke to at my local apple authorised reseller said he had the same thing happen but it was his firmware but that is not the case for me and others as that is all up to date and my software is also current.
Do you think its a hardware issue or software is there cause for concern as these things are not cheap.
Again thanks for your suggestions and comments its appreciated if anyone does find out what this is please let me know as it is playing on my mind I am one of these people who has to find the solution or cause I can't leave things be.
    kind regards
    Martin
