Where is the HD icon information kept?
i like to know what file and where the information about the icon of a HD is kept. does anybody know?
right at the top level of the drive.
open terminal and enter
ls -la /Volumes/"drive-name"
put the name of the drive in the above
this will list the contents of the top level of the drive. there should be a file called something like .Volumeicon.icns. That's it. what are you trying to do? it's much easier to get this file from finder directly. Right-click on the drive and choose "get info". in the info panel select the icon in the top left corner and enter command+c . this will copy the icon to the clipboard. now you can apply to some other drive or folder or simply paste it into preview. open preview and select "new file from clipboard" in the file menu.

Where is the security icon?
Where is the security icon that tells you a site is secure on the new Foxfire?
The old padlock icon was removed, I am not sure but I wondered if it had become too easy to spoof. Now''' use the site identity button''', note it changes colour, and if you click it on a secure site it provides move information and displays the padlock.
See [[site identity button]] <-- clickable link --
There are also add-ons that can restore a similar padlock security icon feature. -

Where is the App icon for HD 1080p Video? From the online photos it should be separate from the camera App.
It's supposed to have a blue background with 1080p in white, while inside there is a white camera with the letters HD in blue.
I cannot find this App icon. Where is it located? It was supposed to be preinstalled.
Thanks.There is no app.
It is the camera. Just take video with the camera.

Where is the iCloud icon ? I have the iCloud settings set to on for music, mail etc but the icon is not on my safari tool bar nor is the icon present on my home screen
There is no iCloud app or icon on your phone. iCloud is enabled and configured in your settings, but you access your iCloud data through the apps you are syncing with iCloud. iCloud contacts are accessed through the Contacts app on your phone, Mail through the Mail app, Reminders through the Reminders app, etc.
You can also access some of this data on icloud.com from a computer. You can't, however, access icloud.com from your phone. -
Where is the Safari icon located.
I have found a bunch of custom icons for OSX on line and have started using them. I replaced the trash can empty and full, some of the icons in the finder sidebar etc. through system/library/coreservices. I backed up to original folders and corrected disk permissions afterward. Everything is working fine. But I can't find all of the icons I would like to replace.
Where is the safari icon for example? I looked in dock, finder and coretypes bundle. I can't seem to locate it. Can anyone help?Hi Jason,
When it comes to changing icons in the system or in applications, the possibility of creating some system problem jumps. As an alternative, I use CandyBar, which simplifies this process immensely.

Where are the toolbar icons located on a mac
I want to find out where the toolbar icons are found in the OSX.
The ones that I am refereing to are those found in finder windows at the top, that show things like the quickview icon etc.
I want to be able to make my own for scripts that I want to place in the bar, so if anyone knows where I can download a template etc I would be very grateful
Many Thanks
MattYou create an alias in the top bar of the Finder window simply by dragging the source file onto the middle area of the bar. What you'll get for a script file I'm not sure, but if it's not to your taste it should be possible to change the icon of the source file in the 'get info' window and then re-drag it to the toolbar.
To remove items from there, you need to hold down the command key (⌘) while dragging to the desktop (same goes for sidebar). -
To where does the LGWR write information in redo log buffer ?
Suppose my online redo logfiles are based on filesystems .I want to know to where the LGWR writes information in redo log buffer ? Just write to filesystem buffer or directly write to disk ? And the same case is associated with the DBWR and the datafiles are based on filesystems too ?
It depends on the filesytem. Normally there is also a filesystem buffer too, which is where LGWR would write.Yes but a redo log write must always be a physical write.
From http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/ask/f?p=4950:8:15501909858937747903::NO::F4950_P8_DISPLAYID,F4950_P8_CRITERIA:618260965466
Tom, I was thinking of a scenario that sometimes scares me...
**From a database perspective** -- theoretically -- when data is commited it
inevitably goes to the redo log files on disk.
However, there are other layers between the database and the hardware. I mean,
the commited data doesn't go "directly" to disk, because you have "intermediate"
structures like i/o buffers, filesystem buffers, etc.
1) What if you have commited and the redo data has not yet "made it" to the redo
log. In the middle of the way -- while this data is still in the OS cache -- the
OS crashes. So, I think, Oracle is believing the commited data got to the redo
logs -- but is hasn't in fact **from an OS perspective**. It just "disapeared"
while in the OS cache. So redo would be unsusable. Is it a possible scenario ?
the data does go to disk. We (on all os's) use forced IO to ensure this. We
open files for example with O_SYNC -- the os does not return "completed io"
until the data is on disk.
It may not bypass the intermediate caches and such -- but -- it will get written
to disk when we ask it to.
1) that'll not happen. from an os perspective, it did get to disk

Is it possible to customize line spacing in Pages 5.5.3? My previous Pages 2.0.2 allowed me to choose spacing in 0.1 increments, but as far as I can tell Pages 5.5.3 only offers four options. Very limiting for creative documents.
