Where is the Home Sharing option with Apple TV?

I have the updated version of iTunes (10.6.3) , and a brand new Apple TV. The instructions tell me that I just go to my iTunes > Advanced > and turn on my Home Sharing.
There is no option in this tab for Home Sharing.
Pretty lost here! Please help.

It was actually on, but turning it off and turning it back on again resolved my problem.

can i have two internet connections connected to two airport extremes separately without disturbing the home sharing option. i want to have both the airport extremes to use a single imac for streaming music or video to my apple tv's at different places where one apple tv is in the range of one airport extreme.it's not a problem if both airport extremes have different wifi id's with separate internet. The imac which i use for streaming the music and videos is only in the range of only one airport extreme.is it possible if i can stream music or videos to my apple tv which is not in the range of same airport extreme which i use for imac but in the range of other airport extreme.
Finally what i need is i want to use two internet networks as my highest possible internet bandwidth is about 1mbps.and i know that i cant mix both the networks and make it as 2mbps.

Yes, that is possible. Please check out the following Apple Support article for details on how.

  • The home sharing option disappears. ??

I have two PCs and I am trying to turn on the home sharing and I go through the steps until it says "Home sharing is now on." etc. and the button says "done" and if I click it, the home sharing option on the left disappears. Why!?

Connect the scanner to your Mac whether Wi-Fi or USB.
    Launch Image Capture.
Click the very small black box bottom left side of the Image Capture window.
You'll see this pop up menu:   Connecting this (device) opens:

  • Home sharing problem with Apple TV3

I have an Apple TV3 in my bedroom and an Apple TV2 in my living room. Both are presently connected to my wireless network. I cannot get home sharing to work with the Apple TV2, but it works fine with the Apple TV2.
I have tried everything I could think of. I exchanged the location of the 2 with the 3. Home sharing still works with the 2 but not with the 3. I have restarted many times and reset the 3. I have turned off and on home sharing both on my IMac and on the 3 and rebooted both several times. Nothing seems to work. Does anybody have suggestions?
    Many thanks.

Sorry there was a typo in the last sentence of my first paragraph. It sould have read  " I  cannot get home sharing to work with the Apple TV3, but it works fine with the Apple TV2."
They are both using the same Apple ID for homesharing.
The TV2 has the name "Apple TV2" The TV3 has the name "Apple TV3".
I have tried restarting the router. I have just done this again and restarted the TV3, but I'm afraid it doesn't work.

  • HT202213 where is the home sharing button on ipad

how to setup ipad home sharing. i cant find the button.

Home sharing allows you to stream your computer's iTunes library to your other computers/devices, so for that to work then yes, your PC will need to be switched on and have iTunes open on it - your other devices and computers, which will need to bo connected to the same wifi network as that PC, will be able to stream your music, films, TV programmes from that PC.
The cloud is separate. Based on your username I'm assuming that you are in the US, so you would be able to redownload your iTunes purchased music, films (though not all studios allow redownloading) and TV programmes from the store directly on your other devices (though you could also sync them from your PC) - so they would then be stored on those devices, as opposed to being streamed from your PC. But redownloading is only possible whilst the item remains in your country's store, content providers occasionally remove things, so it shouldn't be relied upon.
To be able to upload your own music (e.g. music copied from CDs or bought from other sites) to the cloud you would need to subscribe to iTunes Match, which is $24.99 per annum : http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/

  • Resolution of Home Sharing photos with Apple TV 3?

Let's say you have an Apple TV 3 and you have configured Home Sharing so the Apple TV 3 can view the photos in iPhoto on a Mac in your network. Using the Apple TV 3, are the photos displayed on your TV from iPhoto on the Mac in 1080p? I have an Apple TV 2 and the photo resolution does not seem super great compared to directly connecting the Mac to my TV. I asked at my local Apple Store and they didn't really know.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Obviously not, the Apple TV 2 can only output 720p.

  • Home Sharing Streaming with Apple TV Network problem - Solution

Was not able to stream video from my library in iTunes, able to select, but would not stream to play,  I tried everything in the Apple Support Community
Setup: Windows 7 PC  iTunes 11
    AppleTV 3 generation  v5.2
    Linksys E2500 Linksys
WET610N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gaming and Video Adapter (connects to pc)  or Access Point
I change the settings for WMM on the Linksys WET610N.
    What is Wi-Fi Multimedia?
Wi-Fi Multimedia (WMM), previously known as Wireless Multimedia Extensions (WME), is a subset of the 802.11e wireless LAN (WLAN) specification that enhances quality of service (QoS) on a network by prioritizing data packets according to four categories. Network administrators can change priority levels as they see fit. Ranging from highest priority to lowest, these categories are:
Voice: Giving voice packets the highest priority enables concurrent Voice over IP (VoIP) calls with minimal latency and the highest quality possible.
Video: By placing video packets in the second tier, WMM prioritizes it over all other data traffic and enables support for three to four standard definition TV (SDTV) streams or one high definition TV (HDTV) stream on a WLAN.
Best effort: Best effort data packets consist of those originating from legacy devices or from applications or devices that lack QoS standards.
Background: Background priority encompasses file downloads, print jobs and other traffic that does not suffer from increased latency.

    Under Wireless    go to  WMM
Access Mode      Video (select the drop down)
    Video  Use Aggregation:  Yes
    Accept Aggregation:  Yes
Max. Number of Packets in Aggregation:  7
    Max. Aggregation Size:  12000
    Timeout Interval:  3
Min. Size of Packets in Aggregation:  10
    ADDBA Timeout:  0
    Aggregation Window Size:  64
    CW min for STA: 7
    CW max for STA: 15
    AIFSN for STA:
    TXOP for STA:
    CW min for AP: 7
    CW max for AP: 15
    AIFSN for AP:
    TXOP for AP:
Hope this helps someone, please let me know

    Update
Also disable this feature on your router, the data packets are not being read correctly.  Temporally while Apple figures this out.
Disabling WMM will just tell your router to stop regulating it, giving every bit of data transfer the same priority. Most routers come with it disabled by default, but some have it enabled by default as well.

  • Why won't the home sharing automatically wake up my mac to share the library using apple tv 3rd gen

My Mac stays on however after a short while it goes to sleep mode. when i attempt to access the home sharing feture in apple tv i have to walk all the way over to the mac to wake it up in order for the home sharing to be recognized. Is there a way that Apple TV can tap into a sleeping Mac that it is synced to so this process can be streamlined?

Not sure if your problem is exactly the same as in the following thread, but JAHelms posted a fix that seemed to help quite a few people:

If that doesn't help, here are some other troubleshooting suggestions:

  • HT202213 Have newest version of ITunes and a new AppleTV. ITunes File Home Sharing only shows option to turn off home sharing.  No home sharing icon and Apple TV claims home sharing is not turned on.  Where is this advanced menu?

Cannot get home sharing to work with my new apple TV.  Have the latest version of ITunes and the apple TV is connected to my wi-fi network.  The instruction page says to go to the Advanced menu option of ITunes and choose Home Sharing.  This option does not exist.  The closest I can find is under the File option>Home Sharing where my only option is to turn off home sharing.  There is no home sharing icon and Apple TV insist that the home sharing is not turned on.
I must be missing something obvious here.
