Where is the management Studio for SQL 2008 Express?

Can anyone point me to where I can download the management studio for SQL 2008 Express.
I've downloaded and installed SQL 2008 Express without problem but can't find the management studio.
Help.

The 2008 version of the Management Studio is not a stand alone installation and can only be installed as part of the SQL Server 2008 Express with Tools or Advanced installation.
Like many others, I spent countless hours trying to figure out how to install the Management Studio for SQL Server 2008 Express - Advanced installation (same should apply to the w/ Tools version).  What happened in my case was that I installed Visual Studio 2008 Express and during that process a stripped down "Instance" of SQL Server 2008 was installed that did not include the Management Studio.  Through much pain and torture I learned that the Management Studio can only be installed during installation of the first instance. To delete that first instance, you must go to "Add or Remove Programs" and remove "Microsoft SQL Server 2008".  The removal process will only remove one instance at a time and if you have installed more than one instance you need to keep going until all instances have been removed and the application completely disappears from the Add or Remove Programs" dialog.  Note: You do not need to uninstall any of the other SQL Server 2008 applications that also appear in the "Add or Remove Programs" dialog.  Then go back through the install process as follows: Double click on SQLEXPRADV_x86_ENU.exe to load the SQL Server Installation Center and then go to Installation > New SQL Server stand-alone installation.  Then proceed through all of the installation steps until you get to “Feature Selection” and click on “Select All” to toggle on all of the Shared Features, which should include Management Tools - Basic.Continue the process from there and you should be good to go.  Hopefully this will help others to avoid much of the pain that many of us have already experienced.

  • Visual Studio prevents SQL 2008 Express installation on win 8.1

I wanted to install SQL Express 2008 on my Win 8.1 desktop. It gives an error indicating that I should install Visual Studio 2008 SP1 first. I tried, but SP1 installation fails. I also tried to remove VS2008 completely but I still get the same fail when

Now I cannot even  install SQL Manager 2008, to manage database on SQL server.

    Hello,
You should install SQL Server 2008 Express with SP3 included to make it compatible with Windows 8.1. Please try the following download:

  • Problem to create "New Database Diagram" in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio for SQL Server 2012 SQL Express

    Hi,
I have installed SQL Server 2012 Express edition (name of installation media: en_sql_server_2012_express_edition_with_advanced_services_x64.exe) from MSDN and I have installed the application on my pc with Windows 7 Exterprise.
Everything is working fine except when I am trying to create "New Database Diagram", where I recieve following error message:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (Microsoft.VisualStudio.OLE.Interop)
    BUTTONS:
    OK
I have tried two times to reinstall SQL Server 2012 Express and I have installed Cumulative Update #3 for SQL Server 2012 and restarted the machine, but I have still the same problem with the same error message.
    Installed the following fixes:
    1) 2012_RTM_DAC_CU3_2723749_11_0_2332_x64
    2) SQLServer2012_RTM_CU3_2723749_11_0_2332_x64
    These files was installed successful.
How can I solve the problem?
    BR
    Jan Nilsson

    Hi Jan,
Have you installed Visual Studio in your machine?
The problem seems to be related to installing and uninstalling the VS 2011 RC0 program.
The workaround involves copying the files from another PC with SQL 2008 or 2012 from one machine to another. Just replace this folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\MSDesigners8

  • How do I install SQL Management Objects for SQL 2008 on a 2 node cluster?

    Hi,
One of the software we use needs the SMO to be installed. This is on a SQL 2008 2 node cluster. In the control-panel, I do NOT see this installed, and I see the client tools SDK installed and I even did a repair of it. I still do not see it.
Can some one please help me with SMO install on this 2 node SQL 2008 cluster? I could not find a working link to install this.
    Thanks!
    Suresh.
    Suresh Channamraju

    Hi Suresh,
According to your descriptIon, you need to install SMO on two nodes of SQL 2008 cluster, right?
If you want to develop an application that uses SQL Server Management Objects (SMO), you should select the Client Tools SDK when you install SQL Server. To install the Client TooLs SDK without installing SQL Server, install Shared Management Objects from
the SQL Server 2008 Feature Pack.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6375
By default, the SMO assemblies are installed in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\SDK\Assemblies\ directory.

  • Where is the query window in SSMSE 2008 Express?

I have been trying to find the query window in SQL Server 2008 Express.  I've been using SSMSE 2005 Express from a Start Menu button called "SQL Server Management Studio Express."  So far I have installed
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Management Tools, and also
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Management Studio Express, and finally
SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 3.  These are all the "86" installs for Windows 7, 32-bit, for example "SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe."
However I still can't find a button to open an application that will allow me to run queries.  All the Start Menu buttons I have now are Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - Configuration Tools, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 - Import and Export Data (32-bit), and
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 - Configuration Tools.  The "Installed SQL Server features discovery report" shows nothing installed, but I've seen others say the same thing, so I'm not sure that's even working properly.
All I'm really trying to do is connect to a pre-existing SQL Server 2008 database on another server from my computer, and bounce SQL queries off of it.  Also it would be nice if there were an "Enterprise Manager" application such as I used to
have with SQL Server 2000 that would actually graphically help write the queries.
Can somebody help me unwind this?  Thank you.

I finally got this working.  I believe the problem was that I really was not running the installation as an administrator, when I thought that I was.  All is working fine now.
Having said that, this is a very strange installation.  There are many versions and service packs to versions.  It's difficult to understand what is even needed.  At one point the only update allowed was if I installed SDK, which I don't think
I needed.  After updating service packs, none of the version information seemed to change.  Installation was something of a shotgun technique; just keep throwing things at it until it works.  The strange thing to me is knowing how much work
must go into writing all of these programs, and then finding installation to be such a muddled process.
In the end, I'll take whatever works.  Thanks to those who tried to assist.

  • I am trying connect to a SQL instance for our CRM program and I am receiving To Connect to this Server you must use SQL Management Studio or SQL Server Management

I am trying connect to a SQL instance for our CRM program and I am receiving To Connect to this Server you must use SQL Management Studio or SQL Server Management
This is a Brand new Server 2012 that is running our CRM product and it is trying to connect to a Server 2008 R2 server with SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 instance (10.50.4000)
I have seen this in the past where it needed the 2005 backwards compatibility components installed but those are not supported on 2012 server and this is not a 2005 SQL instance.
I am trying to install the Shared Management Objects for SQL Server 2008 but it tells me I need to install the CLR types, which I did install. But it continues to tell me to install the CLR types.
Has anyone ran into any issues like this? (this happens trying to connect to multiple SQL Servers from this new 2012 Server)
    Thanks!
    -Max

    Hello,
Which version and edition of the SQL Server instance did you installed on the new server machine?  If you install SQL Server 2012 Express edition, you can try to install SQL Server Management Studio 2012 from
    this link.
You can connect to SQL Server 2008 R2 or earily verions with SSMS 2012.
What's more, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Management Objects Collection requires Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0, Microsoft SQL Server Native Client, and Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types. You can try to download and install
    SQL Serve 2008 Feature Pack
    which contains packages above.

  • Where are the profiles stored for Profile Manager.

Where are the profiles stored for Profile Manager?
I created a profile attached to a user group and then made the mistake of removing the group without first deleting the profile.
Now the orphan profile can't be managed (it's no longer visible) and is still being pushed out to users.
The group I deleted had another group as it's members.
    Example:
Active Sync User Group was a member of VPN Group.
VPN Group was deleted (it had the VPN settings payload)
Profile with VPN settings are still pushed out to Active Sync User Group even though VPN Group no longer exists.
I'm hoping I can manually remove this profile but I'm thinking it may be contained in Postgres. If that's the case I would appreciate any suggestions/methods to access the database to make modifications.
    Thanks

The information/data for apps is stored together with the app in both the iPad and in the backup on your computer. When you drop a file in the file sharing section of apps it gets added to the backup and to the iPad. When you delete it it get deleted from the backup and from the iPad.

  • Where is the Tech Support for Crystal Reports

Where is the technical support for Crystal Reports?  I have just been through one of the worst technical supports circles in my entire career - this phone# to that phone# and only to be told you cannot talk to a Tech Support person.  My dilema for anyone that can help - I am using Crystal Report 2008.  I have mapped to a database in MS Access 2002.  I copied the database to my desktop and created a test report.  I can see the fields in the Field Explorer.  I have dragged the fields onto the report and they are visible in Design View.  I can see the data in the fields when I browse the fields.  In the Preview View I do not see any data what-so-ever.  I have not changed any defaults and have not suppressed or hidden information.  The $1M question:  Why can't I see the data on my report?  I never had the problem when I used Crystal Reports v8.

The datasource shows my database.  I believe that is what you meant.  No data.  IT has asked me to ask ? if in the Control Panel DSN if we need some information there.  I don't have a clue - I am just a report writer and not an IT person.

  • Where is the download link for SCEP Client Offline installer for x86 & x64 altest greatest version (4.6.305 as of today)

Where is the download link for SCEP Client Offline installer for x86 & x64 latest greatest version (4.6.305 as of today)?
The answer IS NOT IT AND NEVER WILL BE "DOES NOT EXIST"!!!!!! MUST NEVER NEED TO RUN UPDATES TO GET IT!!!!!!!!! THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE ANSWER IS THE LINK!!!!! DUH GET YOUR ACT IN GEAR MS!!!!!!!!!!
    Ralph

Thanks to all for the information. I work in higher ed. We have SCCM latest version, fully licensed. Unfortunately the individual who manages the SC does not have a clue as to where to find the SCEP installer. I sent him links from MS that shows him where
it is supposed to be. The version he say's is on our SC Management server is 4.3. I, in the past, was able to get 4.5 independent of him and it has been working well for me but it is time to use the latest greatest version instead. I should just as easily
be able to get 4.6. As far as licensing goes, if the product was correctly designed it should just work itself out just like it does for the 4.5 version I was able to easily find and download.
As for the link given by KevinMJohnston, thanks by the way, its the closest I have come to getting what I need but all I get is a spinning wheel in Firefox, the only browser one should ever need. In IE I get prompted for an email address, which it should
NEVER EVER DO!!!!!!!!!! I did give them my address, but alas, after waiting over 30 mins. I still don't have a link to the update or the CU4 Config MGR update mentioned. (Another reason I am not very nice to MS, along with, see below...) Please send me the
link that they are suppose to send me in the email.
As for the intensity of the request it comes from not being able to find the update on my own. (Amongst a million other complaints as MS makes my job harder and harder, just think of all the lost productivity and extra repair efforts needed because MS stopped
allowing you to do upgrade/repair installs from the install discs. You have to have a working OS to do it, or you will lose your settings etc and will have to re-install all of your software etc. How STUPID IS THAT! Can't use it to fix a blown driver or BSOD
problem like you could in XP.  There is no excuse for that, I know better. So you can see why I have nothing good to say about MS etc etc.) There is no excuse for that! If the MS updater has it available then IT MUST BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR STANDALONE DOWNLOAD
PERIOD. That goes for ALL updates PERIOD.  I use these updates and many others etc so that once I seal an image for a PC it has the latest greatest version of everything. It is quicker to get it stand alone in advance and installing than waiting for MS
updates to do so. Also I prefer to config my images so that the Av installs after first boot. These are cloned PCs. Many of these PC are used in labs and are frozen. Here, the settings for the SCEP AV being pushed from above can cause major problems for the
users i.e. the scheduled scan feature. If it is on when students are taking tests and they take more than 5 or 10 mins on question MS is stupid enough to start scanning causing the system to become unresponsive. This has caused students to breakdown in tears
thinking the system is hosed and they just lost their tests. I have to do some creative reg hack, setting owner as "Guest", a disabled account, etc. to keep these settings from being changed. (Our SC managers push policies that work for the faculty
but break the lab systems which are frozen, so I have to out hack them, should not be, but it is, we are trying to get that fixed, but bureaucracy and people afraid to share power etc makes it hard.)  These settings unfortunately will prevent the AV from
installing so I need to be able to manually do it after I have set the reg to allow it.  And I could go on. Who knows when or why someone may need to do a manual update of something. I just had 3 systems fail 12 updates, yet when I manually downloaded
them and installed them they ALL installed without failure. I did NOTHING in between the auto update and the manual, yet it was the manual way that worked. Maybe if MS could fix those kind of issues then no one would need to get stand alone update files.)
That is not for MS to worry about. It is, however, their responsibility to make it so that I can choose what will work best for my environment, which only I could know. DUH. I have had issues in the past with MS AV and other brands being installed before "sealing"
    the images. etc. etc. etc.
As you can see, there is not enough space on the world wide web to list all thousands of legitimate reasons to give Microsoft a hard time so I will do so on a case by case bases knowing I am probably spitting in to the wind, but hey somebody has to have
the guts to do it. MS MUST NEVER BE ALLOWED TO SIMPLY GET AWAY WITH IT! They Must be called to the proverbial carpet.
Maybe if people who are MVPs would not be afraid to join the choruses they would be embarrassed, (though it should be done out of moral obligation not embarrassment), enough to fix these obviously fixable problems etc. etc. etc. I have over 30 years in the
IT business, the IBM XT did not exist until my senior year in college. You are not going to be able to convince me that there is a legitimate reason, copy protection IS NOT IT, to prevent me from fixing blown OS via re-install using install disc when OS will
not boot. Nor are you going to be able to find legitimate reason for the SCEP 4.6.305 update to be so hard to get.
Thanks again for the help, still waiting for email from MS, NOT COOL MS! NO EXCUSE!!!!!
    Ralph
