It is hidden by default. To reveal it, hold the CTRL key and then press B.

Where is the menu on windows 8 desktop

I purchased a new HP desktop in Nov. I can only check email and use skype. I want to use word to write stories and work on my family geneology. Where is the menu that has file so I can click on it. As much as I paid for this piecer of junk, yoou would think I coould have a simple way to use word and have a start button like on my old windows professioonal 2000 and vista. This is the 3rd program I have had on my 3rd coomputer and right now I sure hate windows 8.

I think I do not understand your use of "word".
Context: I spent the larger part of the afternoon yesterday trying to figure how to get"word" on my computer. I still have my old one at one end of my large desk. I keep it for when grandchildren come to play games on. I just pluged it in and did some editing to a story I was working on.
On the off-chance that you are talking about a text editor, perhaps you are talking about WordPad ??
You can add a "Tile" for WordPad and most other programs to your Start Screen -- the Screen is configurable and can be made to look and act how you like. Not interested in customizing the Screen? Then just type the word / program / setting you seek on the Start Screen and let the Search seek and provide the results -- click on the program to start it.
Want that program to "stick" to your Start Screen? Right click on the program and "Pin" the program to Start.
It does occur to me that I may not be able to assist in a manner that benefits you.

Windows 8 is thought to be an improvement by some, disparaged by many, and gladly embraced by others. HP sells computers that offer Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 -- HP also sells computers with Linux for those who desire this Operating System.
Windows 8.1 appears to be an improvement over Windows 8. I like Windows 8.1 -- I do admit that I might be one of maybe twenty-five people in the US that really likes Windows 8, so my views are biased.
Some computers can be upgraded easily to Windows 8.1 while others will fail to upgrade gracefully, and a number of systems will not upgrade at all. This is not just an HP issue; most computer manufacturers offer value added software and drivers to their computers -- and it is frequently these drivers and software that need to be rewritten when a computer is changing Operating Systems. The drivers / software may for Windows 8.1 are offered for a number of computers with more being added as they are available.
People who wish to change their Operating System from what was installed when they bought the computer must understand that the Update process is voluntary. The invitation to "update to Windows 8.1" comes from Microsoft -- HP did not send the message and warns against the "click and away we go" update.

Macs: iTunes Store- About authorization and deauthorization.
Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

Where's the Menu?

I have updated my Maps and the new version is driving me mad. Where is the Menu option gone to allow me to choose between walk and drive etc? All I have now is a Dive Widget. Why cant I just start Maps and choose to search or select a location and then choose to walk or drive to it?
This new update seems very cumbersome to navigate around - is there a Manual Update that explains how all this is now supposed to work?
Also when I choose the 'Download own vioce' option it takes me to the Nokia Store and then tells me 'this Item is no longer available for download' - whats's going on/

No clues as to what device you are using, but don't you still have a Nokia Maps "Compass" to launch application > Search > longpress to reveal further set of options?
Can't use Own Voice with Nokia Maps v3.08 which is why not available.

Enhanced podcast -where's the menu?

Where do I access the features of an enhanced podcast in iTunes 7.3.1? Previously there was a menu next to the status "LCD" display and in later versions in the menu bar when playing an enhanced podcast. Now I can't find it anywhere in iTunes.

Some of the MacCast podcasts are enhanced and some aren't. You can tell by the red "e" on the cover art. That confused me, too, when I was testing it out prior to answering you. The first MacCast I used as a test wasn't enhanced. The next one ones. Guess it depends on how busy Adam is.

Just downloaded i tunes 10 and the text on the menu bar is missing at the top of the window, the only thing that is there are small black rectangles that appear when the mouse scrolls over them. help

Try checking screen resolution via the control panel. If set to 1024 x 768 which is quite common try adjusting to something like 1600 x 900 if possible.
Also check dpi scaling? Ideally it should be 100% or 96dpi

I spend almost an hour just to find setting access of firefox.
Device, Nexus 10 Stock rom with Gravity box. I disabled navigation bar but have pie control, which has a menu button. But it doesn't work for firefox. The button work for other applications to bring up settings.
I read several threads here but can't find any mysterious silver buttons.
This is completely ridiculous.

Firefox for Android checks whether your device has a menu button. For example, pre-ICS devices usually had such a button, and Samsung still uses them.
If that button is not found, an icon of 3 stacked dots/bars should appear on the right end of the address bar. That's the menu button. Does it appear? Does it work?
