It's done via the Store drop-down menu at the top of iTunes - if you are using iTunes 11 on a PC then pressing Alt-S should get the Store menu to appear e.g. (screenshot is from a Mac, but it should be similar on a PC) :

i have previously had computers authorised for itunes but all have been thrown away or are now so broken that they do not even turn on! I have lost alot of music etc from CD's but I'd at least like to be able to get back what I bought from itunes.

Follow the instructions in the article from which the question was posted to Deauthorize ALL computer then authorize the one's that you actually have/use.

I am trying to authorize my new computer to play tunes I have transferred from my Iphone, but when I go to Itunes store / and the account information, I do not have any option to authorize this computer. In account information it says that 1 computer is currently authorized to play tunes connected with my Apple ID so that is not a problem... where do I authorize this computer? Aha I have just found the answer to my question thanks to a related question popping up! Its in the Store menu at the top of the pc, not within the pc windows... That is not made clear!

Where is the best place to put music for itunes

I have just downloaded Itunes
I have a lot of music I want to add to the Itunes Program
Where do I store the music I have in the Windows 7 there is a folder called music
do I place all the folders into this (Music Folder)
and then have Itunes find the music folder and add them into the program
Is the best way to do it.
Over time I will add more songs do I just keep placing them into the music folder and have Itunes fiund the new songs and add?

iTunes will not find files, you need to add them to your library.
launch iTunes, go preferences > advanced and verify the copy files ... when adding and keep ... organized options are checkmarked.
next, look inside the iTunes folder for a subfolder called automatically add to iTunes. drop your music files in there. when iTunes has finished adding the files to your library, you may delete the original files.

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
1. Open iTunes on a computer
2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

Where is the menu on windows 8 desktop

I purchased a new HP desktop in Nov. I can only check email and use skype. I want to use word to write stories and work on my family geneology. Where is the menu that has file so I can click on it. As much as I paid for this piecer of junk, yoou would think I coould have a simple way to use word and have a start button like on my old windows professioonal 2000 and vista. This is the 3rd program I have had on my 3rd coomputer and right now I sure hate windows 8.

I think I do not understand your use of "word".
Context: I spent the larger part of the afternoon yesterday trying to figure how to get"word" on my computer. I still have my old one at one end of my large desk. I keep it for when grandchildren come to play games on. I just pluged it in and did some editing to a story I was working on.
On the off-chance that you are talking about a text editor, perhaps you are talking about WordPad ??
You can add a "Tile" for WordPad and most other programs to your Start Screen -- the Screen is configurable and can be made to look and act how you like. Not interested in customizing the Screen? Then just type the word / program / setting you seek on the Start Screen and let the Search seek and provide the results -- click on the program to start it.
Want that program to "stick" to your Start Screen? Right click on the program and "Pin" the program to Start.
It does occur to me that I may not be able to assist in a manner that benefits you.

Windows 8 is thought to be an improvement by some, disparaged by many, and gladly embraced by others. HP sells computers that offer Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 -- HP also sells computers with Linux for those who desire this Operating System.
Windows 8.1 appears to be an improvement over Windows 8. I like Windows 8.1 -- I do admit that I might be one of maybe twenty-five people in the US that really likes Windows 8, so my views are biased.
Some computers can be upgraded easily to Windows 8.1 while others will fail to upgrade gracefully, and a number of systems will not upgrade at all. This is not just an HP issue; most computer manufacturers offer value added software and drivers to their computers -- and it is frequently these drivers and software that need to be rewritten when a computer is changing Operating Systems. The drivers / software may for Windows 8.1 are offered for a number of computers with more being added as they are available.
People who wish to change their Operating System from what was installed when they bought the computer must understand that the Update process is voluntary. The invitation to "update to Windows 8.1" comes from Microsoft -- HP did not send the message and warns against the "click and away we go" update.
