Where is the new mail icon in lion

Hi, Guys!
Just upgraded to Lion - and I must say I already love it. One of the main reasons for me to upgrade is the new version of Apple Mail, which appears to be much nicer and less cluttered as the (already aged) old version.
BUT: Is it just me? I seem to recall havin seen a new icon for Mail App in the WWDC keynote this year - I even seem to recall Steve (or who did present that part? Craig Federighi?) mentioning that there is a new icon for it. But in my installation of Lion, it is still the ole thing... Any ideas? Are there any reasons? Did the icon disappear in the last minute? Did anybody who had access to the Developer Builds realize this? I really would like to know what's happening with this... and to speculate if we're going to see the new icon in an update... :-D I really think the old icon is aged, and has too much detail... and too little contrast...
Looking forward to hear Your ideas about this!
Best regards,
Björn

Hey, Mark!
Great! That is exactly the icon that I also remember. What is weird, though, is that I fast-forwarded through parts of the WWDC keynote's video podcast yesterday, and found in all screenshots I have stumbled upon from Lion that Mail still had the old icon... that confused me, because I was sure I had seen a new icon. The page You posted the link to contains the new icon as I remember it. I do like it a lot. Anybody knows what has happened - and if the icon can be downloaded somewhere? Has it been included in one of the preview builds of Lion, and was drawn last minute?
Anyway - thanks a lot... I at least feel sane again (and trust my memory much more now :-D )!
Björn

  • Has anyone else noticed an issue with the new mail icon on the lock screen?

After updating to iOS 8 there is a new mail icon on the lock screen. When I slide it up I get this message:
"Failed to continue activity- the connection to your other device may have been interrupted- Please try again"
After trying again and again I get the same message and I do not have the "other device" that it mentions. I'm not sure what is going on, does anyone have any ideas?

Nope, have not seen this issue or have this issue myself.  Try going into Settings and toggling off that email account, toggle back on and then send a test email to yourself.  If it still persists, delete the email account and re-add and try again.

  • Question about the new Mail shiped with Lion

    Hi,
I've this quick one to the Dev's which have already worked with Lion's Mail.
Would it be possible to do simple file copy from Snow Mail to Lion Mail ?
I am not asking about the migration possibilyties during upgrade because my current MBP is a Core Duo one and therefore can't use them for Lion.
My MBP 2006 needs to be upgraded soon :-) and will take place in the comming weeks. And I am wondering how to transfer my current mails to the new platform OS since Lion Mail is upgraded as well.
Is the Filesystem Layout from Lion Mail the same as in Snow Mail which allows me to do a plain FS copy ?
    Thxs in advance

    Hi,
I've just spent a good hour or so trying to work out how I can move my existing emails and mail accounts from my MacBook Pro (Snow Leopard) machine to my brand new iMac (Lion) machine.
    Have not had much luck.
I copied over ~\Library\Preferences\com.apple.mail.plist and the files in ~\Library\Mail and ~\Mail Downloads.
When I start mail in Lion, it asks me for new email account information so has no idea of my existing accounts.  Once I re-enter one of my email accounts, I get all my old folders but all the emails are missing....
Is there a simple way to copy accross the accounts and existing mails.  I have tried the Migration Assistant, but I dont want to end up with a new account on the machine just to get the mail accross.
I'm pretty sure I did the same process between two snow leopard machines and it worked fine....
    thanks for any help...

  • Where is the Front Row icon in Lion?

  • Where is the New Tab icon along the tab list?

I am using Firefox 4. In the previous versions there was a mini-tab with a plus-sign all the way to the right that, when pressed, would add a new tab. Can't find it. Sorry.

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click if you want to make that permanent
    See [[Menu bar is missing]])
Make sure that the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
    * If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
    * If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

  • Thunderbird 3: New mail icon?

Has anyone managed to get a plugin that shows an icon when thunderbird receives new mail? I used to use the New Mail Icon plugin before I upgraded to T3, but it's not compatible with T3. I can force it to be enabled anyway, but it doesn't work (no icon appears). I tried FireTray, but it's not working either. ldd on FireTray said that it was missing /usr/lib/libnspr4.so.0d and /usr/lib/libplds4.so.0d, but after symlinking libnspr4.so and libplds4.so to those then T3 just segfaults when I start it. I'm using Gnome btw.

    Hello
If dynamical libraries in a software package are not correct, the best way to solve this is to rebuild the package itself. Symlinking is just ugly
And here is how you do it with firetray:
You need the packages/groups base-devel, xulrunner, scons and svn
In a console do the following:
    # Switch to your home directory:
    cd ~
    # Install the needed packages for compiling:
pacman -Sy base-devel xulrunner scons svn
    # Download sources:
    svn checkout http://firetray.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ firetray-build
    # switch to the build directory:
    cd firetray-build
    # Compile add-on:
    ./build.sh
    Done!
Now you have the .xpi-file in the build-directory. Install it in Thunderbird (Firefox, whatever, ...). Now you can delete the whole build directory. It isn't needed anymore. You can save the .xpi-file for later use (for example on an other pc) of course.

  • How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)

How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)
I want in attachment, not in the body mail.

I think your only solution is to zip the image files first and then attach them.
Read this from a site I found:
Sending Graphical Attachments -- When you attach a graphical image to your message, the recipient of your message sees the image inline (that is, in the body of the message) if her email client supports inline display. ("Take Control of Email with Apple Mail" contains a table listing the capabilities of popular Mac and PC email clients.) If a client does not support inline display (or the recipient has turned off the inline display option), the file appears as an attachment that must be opened in a separate program.
On the one hand, an inline image is easier for the recipient to see - all she has to do is look at it. On the other hand, inline images can be frustrating to scroll through. If you do not wish to send a graphical image inline, you must compress the file before attaching it - Mail, sadly, lacks a built-in compression option, though fortunately for Panther users, the Finder offers Zip compression without requiring a separate application.
Note that when you compose a new message, Mail always shows attachments in the body of your message. You can manually drag them somewhere else, but many email clients display all attachments in a separate list, regardless of where you place them in the message body.
If you paste an image into a message or drag & drop an image from another window (say, a Web browser), Mail converts the raw image data to an attachment in TIFF format. On the other hand, if you drag & drop the icon of an image file (or use the Attach button to locate the file using the file browser), Mail leaves the attached image in its original format. This difference is significant, because although most email clients can display JPEG images just fine, support for TIFF - especially in non-Mac email clients - is less common. If possible, I suggest attaching image files as opposed to pasting or dragging in raw image data.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, you have to add the Facebook account. Go to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars, select Facebook and type your email address and Facebook account, so you will be able to post videos or photos on Facebook directly from OS X, post on Facebook on Notification Center, and receive notifications on Notification Center

  • Strange new Mail behavior in Lion after iCloud implementation

I never use Apple Mail, I only use Gmail through my browser.
However, after getting an iPhone and installing iOS 5 on that, and enabling iCloud, the Apple Mail icon now bounces in the dock a few times a day, as if something is making it want to launch (even though I have never launched it on purpose).
Since the timing of this seemed iCloud-related, I searched through the settings I thought most likely to cause this, and none of them are enabled, but maybe I missed one. If so, can someone please tell me where that setting might be?
I looked in System Preferences->Mail, Contacts & Calendars and the 'iCloud' account syncs the following, which all have checkmarks: Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, Photostream, Documents & Dtaa, and Find My Mac. However, the one that might affect this, "Mail & Notes", is not checked.
Similarly, in System Preferences->iCloud, the same boxes are checked as listed above, and "Mail & Notes" is NOT checked.
    What am I missing here?

If you want to download random stuff from anywhere, or if you need or want to let your patches fall behind, or if you're going load whatever a pop-up or advert or drive-by package or toolbar that somebody wants to load, clicking on stuff in random mail messages (including fake invites, fake shipping reciepts, lottery announcements, etc), yes, you might consider loading an add-on tool.
OS X ships with Xprotect support enabled, and this can and has been used to lock down components (such as the Java JVM plug-in) when something nasty is loose.
The OS X Server variant ships with anti-malware tools — ClamAV — that can scan mail and related storage, and which can mitigate malware for OS X as well as for other platforms.
But anti-malware and anti-virus add-ons?  In general, not needed IMO.
Recent attacks have targeted Flash and Java, and these are easily mitigated.
To avoid any need for anti-malware tools, keep your patches current, keep the Java JVM plug-in disabled in your web browsers (or don't install Java) and use a Flash blocker (or deinstall Flash) in your browser, don't download any stuff you didn't go looking for, pick gonzo passwords, have good backups and preferably a copy that can be offsite and disconnected, use a gateway-firewall, use sftp and not ftp, and all the rest of the usual advice applies...
There's no panacea: an anti-malware tool probably won't protect you from a wholly new attack or from what's called an advanced persistent attack, nor from spearphishing, either.  So you still have to watch what you're doing.
The cure can be a problem, too: anti-malware tools work by doing the same sorts of things as the malware wants to do, insinuating itself into low-level corners of the OS, but attempting to detect and block the malware.  The act of connecting into the OS can potentially cause problems for the "host" OS, just as malware can corrupt and crash a system.

  • HT1277 I cannot open the new email icon for 10.6.8 and the latest secrtoy update. My old "Stamp" icon email won't let me in either indicating that the new OS version doesn't work. Please help

I cannot open the new email icon for 10.6.8 including the latest security update. My old "Stamp" icon email won't let me in either indicating that the new OS version doesn't work. Please help. I have spend over 4 hours installing and reinstalling updates, etc. and I don't know where to go from here.....

Mac OS X v10.6: Mail.app won’t open, or "You can't use this version of Mail…" alert after installing Security Update 2012-004:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4424?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Fellow user Grant Bennet-Alder offers this solution:
Some users have reported this problem if the Mail Application has been moved out of the top-level /Applications folder, or duplicated in another location.
When the Security Update is done, the old version of Mail is disabled.
    The solution has been to:
    1) make certain Mail is in the /Applications folder
    2) There is no other copy anywhere else.
    3) Once steps 1 and 2 have been done, Manually download and re-apply the Security Update (2012-004) by hand.
    Security Update 2012-004 (Snow Leopard)
If the Mail.app has been LOST, it can be re-installed by applying the 10.6.8 version 1.1 combo update. But this update is quite large and it is usually not necessary:

I know the status bar was removed and an and on bar replaces it but
Where did the Secure Site Icon go ? Will not use FF without it !
I cant find anything about it. ( FF 40b7 ) How do I get it back ?
Not so little things like this will hurt FF. And YES I understand this is beta but come on guys/gals this is IMPORTANT !
I probably just missed something stupid but I could use some help please.

Every financial institution (bank, credit union,...), every news outlet (print/TV/Radio/blog) reaches out to millions of elderdly folks and other non-geeks and tells them to run away as soon as they dont see a Key or Lock on a secured page (or maybe so-called secured page from what I get you are trying to push through).
This is a major Change Management disaster waiting to happen... Not just for Firefox but for every web site using secure transactions. Countless organisations are going to get calls from users telling them, "Your site is not secured, Oprah and CNN told me so".
Go for color scheme or other visual indicator to warn of security level, but absolutely dont lose the icon !
