Where is the : on the iPad retina display?
I need the colon symbol and cannot find it on the key pad for my ipad : where is it
The iOS keyboard is contextual. For example, if you're typing in the URL box, you won't have a space bar. Where are you trying to type when you can't find the colon?

I have the ipad retina display version - I have a BIG issue with this when out and about, that only about 50% of the time will it see my HTC mobile WiFi hotspot - rebooting either, or both devices doesn't cure the problem it drives me MAD!!!!
The HTC hotspot works fine with everything else I connect to it.
Also - ipad will not connect to my HTC via bluetooth. Again, I can connect to everything else with my HTC other than my ipad.
I have to say this is my first venture into Apple products and I have always wanted to get away from my windows based laptop to get a MacBook, the problems I have had (flash player etc) & continue to have (as above) are putting me right off swapping over. I HATE technology that doesn't work and my ipad has been hard work!I stated my ipad as being an ipad2, but I now think it is a 3??? It was new Jan this year and is the 64gb retina display version.
I really would like to get to the bottom on this problem wit mobile hotspots as it is sitting on my desk next to me now and I cannot get it to connect to my HTC mobile hotspot!!!! It might be taking a flying lesson soon at this rate!!! Grrrrrrr........... -
I noticed the bright spots on the ipad retina display in a black image. Used only 2 weeks.is it normal?
No its not normal. I'm not sure how big these bright spots are, but it could be a hardware problem. Without more details, I would suggest that you take it to an Apple Store or take it back to wherever you bought it and let the, evaluate the iPad.

Word Processing on the iPad Retina Display
Hi There,
I've been browsing the forums for a while and have seen various threads about the WP possibilities with iPad. I've looked at ipages and iworks, and also a couple of others which are paid apps and claim to do mostly the same things (I really only want basic word processing which I can then save and email).
Many of the apps I've tried out are SO slow to load that it's really not worth the hassle. In particular, those which rely on iCloud, Google Drive, DropBox or Sky Drive. On the other hand, a few of the free apps seem to have no possibility to save anywhere which is daft. Some autosave, but woe betide you if you log off before it's done that.
I used Polaris with my Samsung Note to very good effect, it allows export in both word or PDF (or other) formats and also allows direct export from the app if you want to do that. It's pretty basic but sufficed for my needs however there doesn't appear to be a version for the iPad sadly.
If you were about to buy an app PURELY for word processing, and required something which allowed you to email from the app, to convert to pdf (I have a pdf converting app) AND allowed you either to store the doc on the iPad (is this even possible? I'm guessing it is as the Note allows for this and has the same memory size) or uses iCloud or Google Docs - don't really mind which.
I can't seem to find any overall opinion on which is best. Many seem to say iPages but I'm unsure how malleable it is and I don't have an Apple computer, only a PC so I need it to be fully compatible.
Thanks for any advice, help or experience anyone feels like sharing.Yes, I was wondering about using the Notes app too. Hmm, I've just been looking at some of the links on another similar question and the real problem is, the reviews are terrible for many of the Office Pro type apps. They cost around the same as Pages and claim to do all kinds of things but Documents to Go and Doc to Go Premium are simply slated in the review sections.
Thanks very much. I shall probably try Pages first. -
I just bought a new iPad with the SD to lightning adapter to upload pictures. When I plug it in, nothing happens. I have tried it with and without the SD card inserted when I plug it in, I've tried restarting it, I've even called Apple support and the woman hadn't even heard of the adapter. One time, it did work, so I know it's possible. I didn't do anything special that time. Every other time it hasn't worked. One time I got a message that said the device was not compatible. I bought them together and the salesman said they work together. Any advice?
For some reason the lightening adapter version can be buggy.
A few tricks with mine (mine is the old 30 pin version but the premise is the same). You can give the iPad a reset. Sometimes that clears things up.
Also, if the adapter is empty then it doesn't show up, because there's nothing to make it show up. If the files on there aren't formatted correctly then they won't show up. (if you're trying to use the adapter and a card to transfer photos to your ipad, they must follow a very strict naming convention or they're not seen) -
Recipe for iPAD retina display
Hi,
Does anyone have a 'recipe' for processing photos for the ipad retina display.
I'm a bit confused as to trying to print to jpeg (with what settings?) or export.
I've tried a bit, but not been really happy with the results.
What do you do?
hansYou could also have a read of Jeffrey Friedl's Lightroom-to-iPad workflow: http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/ipad-howto2
This is effectively a Publish Service which can publish via FTP directly to a client app on the iPhone, thus bypassing iTunes and the iPad Photos app completely. I converted to this a few months back. Well worth a read.
PS I use exactly the same settings as Rikk, although I first crop all the images (VCs) to 4x3 if possible to ensure they are viewed full screen on the iPad. -
Sorry if this is a bit naive. I have just bought my first iPad (Retina Display). I have WiFi at home but it has taken me ages to get on-line as I needed all sorts of codes, passwords, numbers etc.
How does one connect to the web (Google) when one is out and about?
Thankshaha, You're welcome

Since the iOS 7.0.2 update, my iPad retina display is now experiencing white blurred screen, can you help me from this?
Restore the device via iTunes on the computer.

I am not able to install asphalt 8 on ios 7 ipad retina display. I am downloading it directly but on the install process it is stuck.
Try rebooting your iPad by holding down the power and home buttons simultaneously until a blank screen with the Apple logo appears. Ignore the power off slider if it appears. After a while your device should go to the main screen, as if you're turning the iPad on. Don't worry, this won't do anything to your data, it just literally restarts the iPad.

I have and iPad retina display but its not the lightning charger with can I change it ?
The iPad 3 with retina display came with a 10W charger. The iPad 4 with retina display comes with a 12W charger that you can buy.

The 15" Retina Display is actually more than Retina?
I just bought a 15" rMBP and I just learnt that there is an app called RDM out there which can "release the full potential" of the Retina display. (Some of you should know this as the app was released in 2012) What Apple recommends as "Retina" in the System Preferences is just text size which looks like 1440 x 900 on a 15" display, which Apple discreetly does not mention. Of course this 1440 x 900 gives you words with very smooth edges because of the potential high resolution of the display. So What is recommended as "Retina" in the System Preferences is not actually 2880 x 1800? With RDM you can have a resolution up to 3840x 2400. Considering this is a 16:10 display, that is equivalent to the 4K or UHD displays of the latest PC notebooks. So the Apple Retina displays are actually equivalent to UHD rather than just 2880 x 1800?
Apple's reference to a "Retina" display means that, at standard viewing distance, the pixels are too small to be individually visible. The "Best for Retina Display" setting gives the smoothest image but the tradeoff is less screen real-estate to work with, as you've discovered.
If you actually had your monitor set to display at 2880x1800 (I have with Eye-Friendly in the App Store), you'd be hard pressed to read much of anything because text would be so small. 3840x2400 would just make it even smaller so the image pixels and the display of them would no longer be one-to-one and image quality, to the extent you could even see it, would suffer. What RDM and Eye-Friendly can't do is make the monitor larger, which is where increased resolution would really pay off. -
Is there a way of connecting the ipad to the smart board in the classroom, so that the smartboard is the control, and the ipad is displaying what is on the smartboard? This is to help a visually impaired child see what is on the smartboard.
Absolutely!
Install Splashtop2 on the PC and enable it to be controlled or ran from iPad or Reflection to simply allow iPad to serve as PC unwired monitor. With Splashtop and an Apple TV connected, you use the smartboard as usual, yet the PC and iPad can see the same content. The impaired child can even interact with the Smart Board via the iPad as if he were writing directly on the big screen. Erasing functions can be done by touching the Smart Board manual controls. Several variables are in play that cause this lack of functionality:
Apple won't permit PC software that infringes its proprietary apps.
Smart Board companies refuse to develop iPad apps because they feel threatened and are being replaced by iPads
School districts think Apple TV is meant for copyright infringement and could expose them to safe harbor lawsuits
Network administrators make it impossible to login Apple TVs because they don't want the streaming occurring
Classrooms are not able to keep up with the technology of using the iPad
Clicker companies refuse to play with iPad because they see it as a potential threat to their core business clients
Apple is not working as hard as it could to exploit its capabilities in education, thus losing money in iPad sales
The bottom line is that we educators and technology developers are hurting our childern with petty conflicts.
