On iOS 7 it's done within Safari : tap the '+' button to open a new tab and at the bottom left of the screen you should get a Private button/link to turn it on/off.

  • Can I remove the "private browsing" option?

Is it possible to completely remove the private browsing option in Firefox? I don't like the idea of people in my family having access to all sorts of sites, undetected by anyone. If not I may have to remove Firefox completely and return to Internet Explorer. Any help on this would be good.

You could use the Menu Editor extension ([https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/menu-editor]) to remove the menu entry, but this is only of limited use. For example it does not prevent anybody from clearing the browsing history.
An alternative approach is to use a parental control program such as the free K9 web protection ([http://www.k9webprotection.com]). That program has its own log of sites visited, and you can use it to block access to categories of sites that you choose.

  • I want to remove the "private browsing" option. how?

Firefox automatically installed the "private browsing" option on my browser. I do not want it.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

You have or had an extension installed (NET_mmhpset) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6 to Firefox/3.0.x.
You can check the '''general.useragent''' prefs on the '''about:config''' page.<br />
You can open the ''about:config'' page via the location bar, just like you open a website.<br />
    Filter: '''general.useragent'''<br />
If ''general.useragent'' prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose ''Reset''.

  • How do I delete the private browsing option?

    ''locking as a duplicate - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/792868''
I want to delete the private browsing option.

There is no built-in option to disable private browsing. You can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ Menu Editor] extension to remove the option to start in private browsing mode from the menus, but that is easily bypassed. For example it does not stop somebody using the keyboard shortcut to open private browsing.
Private browsing is not the only way to hide browsing details, somebody can remove records of their browsing by using clear recent history.

  • The private browsing option is gone from the tools menu, the one in the file menu dosn't work the same.

Firefox updated itself this morning to 20. The option to start private browsing in the tools menu is gone. The one in the file menu is not the same, it works differently. I would really like to no how to re enable this feature. I always have a lot of tabs up. When I feel so inclined I would hit the private browse button then close. When I would reopen all my tabs would be there. this is but one example of how I used private browsing. If you could help me with this problem I would be very happy. Thank You for your time and support.

Hello, when you start the new private browsing, starts in a new Private Window, and you first window it is exist also.
If you close the private browsing window, your first window exist, but if you close the browser you must set it to '''Show my windows and tabs from last time''' (in Options > General panel > start up) :, [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/startup-home-page-download-settings#w_startup Startup] to see again your tabs and windows when you start firefox.
    thank you

  • How do i remove the private browsing option?

cant seem to get rid of this option..granted im no computer genius, but this is getting aggravating. help?!

This new extension disables Private Browsing, hides all the PB menu items and disables the keyboard controls, disables the clearing of browsing history, and the extension doesn't appear in the Add-ons except for the Firefox SafeMode. <br />

  • Where did the private browsing button go in my safari settings?

I have private browsing turned on in safari, but I set it that way before I updated to ios7. Now I am trying to go to AT&amp;T's website and it says I need to turn off private browsing and to go to settings then to safari and turn private browsing off. So I did what it said, just like I've always done and I do not see anywhere to turn private browsing on and off. I now have ios7 and I have the iPhone 4. Maybe I am just missing something, but if you have any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

It is actually in teh app itself now, not in Settings. Tap the icon in the lower right (looks like to pages on top of one another). Tap Private. (This turns in or off). A dark grey toolbar in Safari indicated PB is On.

  • I have a problem with the private browsing option. In my firefox settings it says I'm in private browsing mode, but firefox still remembers all of my history.

In the options menu, I changed my settings to never remember history, but firefox still records all of it in the history tab. I repeated this, setting it back and forth between remember and don't remember and it still always recorded it.

Did the Flash plugin crashes also happen with a previous version (10.1) of the Flash player?
If you have submitted Breakpad crash reports then post the IDs of one or more Breakpad crash reports (bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx).<br />
You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the <i>about:crashes</i> page.<br />
You can open the <b>about:crashes</b> page via the location bar, like you open a website.

  • How can I delete the private browsing option?

I have two children and I do not want their internet time to be hidden from me. I need to know what websites are visited and even if they delete the history I want to be able to search the temporary internet files to see if they are hiding anything,

Sophisticated users can get rid of most of their tracks, so you may need some additional software to "really" know what's going on. More info: [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/parental+controls Parental controls].
That said, you can edit Firefox's menus in one of two ways:
    (1) Menu Editor extension
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/710/
    (2) Manually edit the settings file userChrome.css in a user's profile.
You would add a rule ''hiding'' the menu item using a rule similar to:
    #privateBrowsingItem {display:none !important;}
I can't test that at the moment, sorry. More info: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_:_Tips_:_Customize_context_menu#Tweaking_userChrome.css

  • Removing private browsing option in FF4

I need my computer to be protected so on previous versions I have removed the private browsing option. FF4 does not have that option. I understand cache and browsing history can be stripped but there are always traces of bad views even just the video player gives you clues. If the private browsing removal is not possible I will have to move to a different browser and I love Firefox. Please help.

  • How can I completely remove and/or disable the Private Browsing feature in 3.6?

I want to run my browser without the Private Browsing feature even usable. Is there a way to not only remove the feature, but also to remove it from the Tools menu?

There is no built-in way to remove or disable the feature. You can hide the menu options but the keyboard shortcut to start private browsing will still work. Even with the menu options hidden it is still possible to delete browsing history. If you want to keep track of all sites visited you will need an external option.
