Where is the right version of iPhoto?

I'm using iPhoto 7.1.5 on my MacBook Pro. I want to sync my iPhone pictures via iCloud, but I got a message saying I needed a newer version of iPhoto.
So, today I bought iPhoto version 9.2.1.  I can't install it, because I don't have version 9.0.  I must need to buy something else that I can upgrade to the latest version but I'm not sure what that is.
What do I need to install and where do I get it?
Thanks for your help,
Karen

Every time I get iPhoto version 9.something, it says I can't install it because I don't have the previous one. Where can I get the right version?
I think I bought 9.2 at the apple store online.
I don't understand why my question was marked "answered" - I need more information. You've been helpful, but I still need some answers.

  • I can't open the latest version of iphoto.

When opening the latest version of Iphoto an error message appears that says; You can't open your current iphoto library using this version of Iphoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iphoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iphoto. What? If I can't open the current library using the latest version of iphoto, and I am asked to make changes the the newest version!!! I'm asked to run in circles chasing my tail... Help please?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. That sometimes is an indication of a damaged library. Backup and launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed to rebuild the library. Select options #3 and #5.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.x.x), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

    Hello,
domain rename is NOT supported when using Exchange 2007 or higher. And NetBIOS rename is NOT supported on ANY Exchange version.

"It is imperative that you not attempt a domain rename operation until you read and understand the contents of this technical reference. The domain rename operation is not supported in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or Exchange Server 2010.
DNS domain rename is supported in Exchange Server 2003. However, renaming of the NetBIOS domain name is not supported in any version of Exchange Server."
There are maybe also other applications/services that do not support this.

  • I have recently updated to iPhoto 9.2.1, more by accident I guess. In the older version off iPhoto when I imported photos and gave the event his own name, this name was also used in the "masterfile"

I have recently updated to iPhoto 9.2.1, more by accident I guess. In the older version of iPhoto when I imported photos and gave the event his own name (for exampample "110723 birthday son 2011"), this name was also used in the "masterfile", so I could find the file by his name ("110723 birthday son 2011") in the "masterfile" on my HD and copy and paste it from there to other computers.
In the new version the file gets stored under a seemingly random number, which does not give me any information about the content.
Is there a way to fix this? Would it be different in apperture?
    Thanks
    Harald

I have Iphoto '09, version 8.1.2 (424). I am having an identical problem.  All my pictures are imported into Iphoto when I downloaded them from my camera.  Until recently, I thought that the pictures were actually saved in the library.  Since I need to crop my pictures for the web, and Iphoto doesn't do that, I purchased Photoshop Elements to do that.  To my surprise, when I try to get a picture from Iphoto to Photoshop, it can't be done. That was when I realized, after wasting a lot of time, that the photos are not in the Iphoto library.
I started naming the pictures on Iphoto so I had a recognizable file name to open on Photoshop. Couldn't find it.  I looked in the Backup folder and the Transfer software folder (I have a Nikon camera), and the names I entered in the Iphoto display, could not be found.
When I am trying to upload a photo to the web, I get the Finder folder showing  with an active folder called "Photos" under "Media", which only displays Iphoto and PhotoBooth.  This is a folder name that I cannot find in my HD anywhere when I look for it.  If I edit a picture with Photoshop, I am not going to save it back to Iphoto (not sure whether it will work properly).  How do I get my folder of edited photos to show when I want to upload a picture to the web?
Where (the name of the folder) do I find the pictures I see displayed on the Iphoto library, including any name changes, keywords added, and so on?

  • You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto. What can I do?

My home was recently burgularized and my Intel MacBook Pro was stolen I had a backup but my other computer is a G5 PowerPC running 10.5.8 and I am getting the following error:
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
Obviously I cannot install a newer version of iPhoto on my G5 so what recourse do I have to get my images back?
    Help

    You have two options:
Run the Library on a machine that has the same version as the machine that was stolen.
    or
Recover the files from this library and start over from scratch.
    To recover the files:
Go to your Pictures Folder (or whereever you have the back up) and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Your originals are in the Masters folder.
Note this will only recover your photos as imported from you camera.
    Regards
    TD

I installed Mavericks to my computer and iPhoto isn’t working it has a grey no working symbol over it.  So I tried to download the new version of iPhoto but it starts to download and just gets to 10.2MB and starts all over after about 3 mins of doing this it comes up with an error message saying  an error had occurred.  I have tried downloading several times restarting the computer and downloading and still get the same thing over and over again.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • How can I repare the rights for my iPhoto-Library

    Hello dear Apple Support Community,
I have a bigger problem with my iPhoto-Library which I saved on a external drive while I had a MacBook (with iPhoto '09). Now I bought me a new MacBook Pro and wanted to open the iPhoto-Library on my new MacBook Pro. iPhoto opens an tells me to update the Library for the new version of iPhoto (iPhoto '11). During this update iPhoto says that a problem occured with one or more data and that it needs to be repare the rights. Afterwards iPhoto tells me that the reparation didn't work, that iPhoto couldn't repare the rights. Then it closes.
I already tried to change the rights in the information window of the Library, but I had no possibility to change it?!
    Thanks

Can you successfully open the library on the EHD?  if so create a new, empty library in your PIctures folder and use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to merge the library on the EHD with the new library on your new MBP.  Set the iPLM preferences somewhat as follows with  any personal changes:

  • The old version of iPhoto would not import my photos from my iPhone and now there are over 11,000 of them, how do I erase these unwanted photos?

I had the older version of iPhoto and it was allowing me to start the import from my iPhone but would unexpetcadly quit leaving all of the photos uniported and added duplicates of each one every time I opened iPhoto so that now there are over 11,000 of them. I have the newest version now and I was hoping there would be a way to erase them but I still cannot figure it out. Does anyone know how to erase the 11,000+ unwanted photos from the program?
    Thank you
    Heather

So, are you gettting a message at start up? If so try:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

Where is the button for downloading iPhoto 9.6?
At the AppStore - you should see it on the "Updates" pane of the App Store, if you own a previous version of iPhoto 9.x.x. and are signed in with your AppleID.
If you do not own an iPhoto 9.x.x version, buy iPhoto 9.6 from the "Featured" page of the App Store.

I try to open iphoto and it comes up with You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto. I have downloaded photo manager and it's telling me to update but it wont update...

iPhoto is Apple's included program to manage your photo's and pictures.
It receives updates over time with Software updates and new machine or iLife purchases.
When iPhoto gets updated or a newer version is used, it may alter iPhoto support files, but newer iPhoto versions usually always compatible with older files which it then updates.
If you used a newer iPhoto on your iPhoto support files, then they got altered to the newer format, older iPhoto versions can't read the older format.
Somewhere along the line you somehow got a older version of iPhoto on your computer, you need to fine the newer version of iPhoto (not this photo manager, sounds like another program)
Or somewhere along the line you used a newer iPhoto version (like on another Mac) and it altered the iPhoto support files on your older version of iPhoto.
So the key here is to find the newest version of iPhoto and use that to access your iPhoto support files.
If you didn't access your iPhoto support files from another Mac, then you should have the newer iPhoto version on your computer.
Once you find it, and get it in the Dock, you should remove the older iPhoto version from your computer to prevent this from happening again.
Lastly, if the newer version of iPhoto is somehow gone off your computer, you should be able to get a copy off the latest OS X install disk or iLife using a free program called Pacifist.
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
Then you need to check for updates for iPhoto in the program itself, the current version is 9.1.2

  • My iphoto keeps coming up with message "You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.

I had the original version of iPhoto,  that came with my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.8). My software is up to date. This has been happening since our hard drive was repaired.  I had to reinstall the iphoto, but it still doesn't work.

The latest version of iPhoto 09 is version 8.1.2. Verify that this is the version you have.
Did you connect a different computer to this one, then access your iPhoto??
Your iPhoto Library is in your pictures folder.  We can tell what version the library is in the follow way.....
    - locate your iPhoto Library in the pictures folder - hold down your "control" key on the keyboard, and click once on the "iPhoto Library" and select "show package content".    This will show many folders. Locate the folder called “Albumdata.xml”.  Again, hold down you "control" key, and click on this file, then select "open with safari".

  • How can I re-install the last version of iPhoto, I hate this new version.

How can I re-install the last version of iPhoto. I hate this new version "Photos 1.0" which installed yesterday on my iMac. Please help. My operating system is OS X YOSEMITE 10.10.3. THANKS.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
