Where is the Scientific Filter ?!?

Very disappointed not to see the only filter I use on this Mac version of Audition. Why? I always cannot see any chance to put VST instruments... any news?

It's AWOL - but hey, it may well return. Putting an entry in the Feature Request forum might be a good idea...

Photoshop CS5 can be run as a 64-bit application on Mac OS, 10.5.7 and higher. Because of the changes that were made to the application, some plug-ins are not available when you run Photoshop CS5 either as a 32-bit or a 64-bit application. To work with these plug-ins, run Photoshop CS5 as a 32-bit application, then when you are done using these plug-ins, return to working in Photoshop CS5 as a 64-bit application.
If you copy old plug-ins from previous versions of Photoshop, or third-party plug-ins that are not compatible with Photoshop CS5, into Photoshop CS5's Plug-in folder, you may see different problems, such as errors or crashes.
If you have set the Additional Plug-Ins Folder in the Plug-Ins preferences to a folder, deselect this option, or make sure all the plug-ins in this folder are compatible with Photoshop CS5.
The easiest way to determine if third-party, old plug-ins, or plug-ins from previous versions of Photoshop are causing problems is to move them all into a new folder called "3rd Party plug-ins."
If this folder is outside the Photoshop/Plug-Ins folder, you can use the Additional Plug-Ins Folder Plug-In preference to allow Photoshop to access or not access the plug-ins in this folder.
If this folder is inside the Photoshop/Plug-Ins folder, disable the plug-ins by renaming the folder by putting a tilde (~) as the first character in the folder name.

To run Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS as a 32-bit application, select the Adobe Photoshop CS5 application file, installed by default in the Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder. Choose File > Get Info, and select Open in 32 Bit Mode. Deselect this option to run Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit mode.
To determine if a plug-in causes an error or crash, remove all old or third-party plug-ins from the Adobe Photoshop CS5 > Plug-Ins folder, and deselect Additional Plug-ins Folder in the Photoshop > Preferences > Plug-Ins preference.

The extract filter was removed in CS4. Adobe says there are better options. They prefer edge detection as described below.
Edge Detection: The Extract filter was left out of CS4, although it was available as a separate install. (Rumor has it that the new Edge Detection feature wasn’t ready for CS4 and was pushed back to CS5.) While the Extract filter got a lot of bad press, it was really due to misuse. Luckily, Photoshop CS5 does a better job than the filter. Selection of complex edges, such as curly hair, has always been a problem. The Edge Detection setting is now part of the Refine Edge and Refine Mask dialogs. The feature is fairly easy to use: make a selection or a layer mask, open the Refine Edge dialog (Select>Refine Edge), and use the Refine Radius tool (E) to brush over the desired area. (There’s an Erase Refinements tool [just press Shift-E] in case you don’t like the results and want to try again.) In addition, there’s a Smart Radius checkbox with a Radius adjustment slider to make selections even easier. This tool makes short work of some tough selections, but it’s not for every image. I found it worked great on some images, but not others. You still might want to bone up on using the image calculations for advanced selections.

There is no Clouds filter in Photoshop Mix (where this thread was posted).
In Photoshop, It's under Filter > Render.

I used the extract feature frequently with CS2. Then I upgraded to CS5,
and even though the help menu said it is to be found in the filter drop-down
menu, it isn't there. Must I extract with CS2, save it, and then reopen it with CS5?

and will be uprgrading to cs6
reading the comments after the cs6 new features page
users mentioned cs6 does not contain either SCIENTIFIC FILTER or PITCH BEND
have audition users found plugin substitutes for these?

i am going after cs6 primarily because of encore and media encoder going 64 bit if i'm not mistaken
i have many audio filters in my arsenal (it's just that many speak of the scientific filter very highly)
i am not an audition user...i am just checking around to see if it is a respected program...

Where is the photo count in the Library Filter of Lightroom?

Look at this screenshot.
This is from an online tutorial and is a typical view of the Library Filter. Notice that there are photo counts to the right of each of the search criteria. For example, All (2 Cameras) - 487 photos. Canon EOS 5D - 404 photos, etc.
Now notice a screen shot from my iMac with Lightroom 5.2 on OX 10.9 Mavericks.
Notice that there are no photo counts after the search criteria. WHERE DID THEY GO? Or for that matter, were they ever there in this iteration of LR? I think they were but I'm not sure. Incidentally, I am aware the count will appear in the filmstrip (see the next photo) but that is not nearly as useful.
If anyone can help me get this to work as I suppose it should, please let me know.

The white sliders are mentioned but not the missing photo count (which was obviously reported in the beta phase). I'm sure there are more.

As of CC 2014 the filter no longer exists. Several features were removed, some had to with flash as Adobe is supporting html5 over flash. It can still be used in CS6 and CC

I'm having a funny problem here.... I cannot find the "Extract" filter in my "Filter" menu.... I found out that there is supposed to be a "Goodies" folder on one of the install DVDs, but there isn't. I was able to find the downloads for this (meanwhile) optional filter on adobe.com, but they're only in French, Enlish, and Spanish. However, I use the German version. Clues anyone where I can download the German version? (I tried the English/French/Spanish version, but my German PS CS4 wouldn't accept it...)

ich habe ein eigenartiges Problem hier - ich kann den "Extrahieren"-Filter im "Filter"-Menu nicht finden. Ich habe auf adobe.com die herunterladbare Version dieses zwischenzeitlich als "optional" geführten Filter in der Version English, Spanisch und Französisch gefunden, aber nicht für deutsch (ich benutze die deutsche Version.) Die anderssprachige Version verträgt mein PS CS4 leider nicht... Irgendwelche anderen Lösungen?

You will find the Oil Painting Filter in Photoshop CC. It has been taken out of Photoshop CC 2014.
So if you have Lightroom Creative Cloud, you should have both Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014.

Where is the "sort and filter" in numbers?

I am trying to sort rows using Numbers for iPad. I can sort an entire table by using the Sort function when you highlight a column. However, I am now trying to sort only certain rows, i.e. a sort within a sort, and this is proving ridiculously difficult. I've read this can be done by highlighting and choosing "sort and filter" from the toolbar. However, I don't see this toolbar nor the "sort and filter". Where is it? I see 4 icons in the upper left: info, picture, wrench, and arrows. I'm very frustrated as it seems this should be so easy to do in a spreadsheet application. I appreciate any help!

The text pop-up menu you read about may have been the Add Filter pop-up menu in the Query HUD (Cmd-F). You can use it to add additional text search boxes to the HUD. You already have one by default in the upper right corner of the HUD.
That's for searching.
Again, if what you're trying to do is overlay text on an image, you can't really do that except as I described the previous reply.
If what you're trying to do is enter text to an image's metadata, you do that in the Metadata Inspector (I).

Oracle SQL Connector for HDFS - Where is the filter applied?

I have just managed to get the Oracle SQL Connector for HDFS (YEAH!)
working on a Linux 2VM cluster and was curious where the filter in the where clause is being applied to limit the data.
i.e. is it being pushed clear down into hadoop or is hadoop pulling all the data and then then it's being filtered or does all the data get buffered into the database or what?

Along the same lines of this question, does anybody know a way to connect from Oracle to Hadoop/HDFS in such a way as to push the query filter down into the Hadoop query?
I really don't want to pull ALL my hdfs data into the Oracle buffer cache for processing!

How to put the ratings filter back where it belongs?

The 1.0 version suddenly moved the ratings filter away from the rest of the filters on the left-hand library column, and stuck it with the horizontal file browser at the bottom of the screen. I've tried and tried to drag the filter back into the vertical column, but it doesn't want to budge.
The only problem is I hate the little scrolling thing at the bottom and always use Lightroom with it turned off.
Why they split half of the filters into the library control panel (file name, date, etc.), and tacked on the other half (rating and flags) into the bottom panel is beyond me.

Not "learning how...", just "learning too...". In other words, you can learn to like having it on all the time, and that was just one of three options I gave you.
As for "an option like most everything else", none of the panels in LR are tear-off and relocatable like those in PS.
I'm sorry you don't like this change. I hope I've explained why it's like it is. You don't have to agree with it but, if you are to use the program, you are going to have to choose one of the options I mentioned above.
