Where is the sidebar??

I was having lots of trouble with the latest update on my IPad 2, and someone suggested I sync it to the computer and do the updated update though that. Turned on ITunes to do that, and again, the sidebar has disappeared. I cant work without it, and have tried to Control S it, but nothing happens. Have they got rid of this option forever?? There is no option to add sidebar in the View drop down box either.
Please, can someone tell me how to get it back onto my ITunes purchased screen so I can update, delete items etc, before I go mental!
I think my next tablet purchase wont be an Apple product, as they keep changing the darn things and make it too hard for normal average people like me to work.

In order to get the "sidebar working" in iTunes, a device must be connected to the PC/Mac and the device must be recognized. Without the device connected/recognized in iTunes, there will be no sidebar. If you don't get the "rectangular thingy" (actually an icon that looks like the connected device), your device is either not connected properly and/or is not detected by the PC/Mac & iTunes. The icon appears when your device is connected and detected properly by iTunes.
The link posted above by both Demo & Diavonex outlines what to do if your device is not detected properly by iTunes which is exactly what you're trying to get resolved...device not detected, it won't appear in iTunes, thus you cannot access the sidebar.
What exactly do you need the sidebar for?

Okay where is the sidebar in version 12.0.1.26?

Okay, it's gone yet again. Every time there is an upgrade, I have to hunt for the sidebar. This time I have searched high and low, to no avail. Where is it hidden?

Go through each of the sources Music, Movies, etc. and select Playlists. Use the ellipsis ... to enable the sources you want to see. Apps, Tones, and Internet Radio don't have a Playlists button, the others do and remember your selection. Not quite the same as it used to be, but not too different. Other view controls are available from the drop down at the right-hand side.
When you connect your device it will show up in the sidebar.

How do i get the sidebar back on iTunes ver 12. If it isn't possible to get it back can I return to an older version of iTunes and disable further updates

FYI the sidebar is not gone. You can activate it pressing on the button Playlists in the white topbar. The functionality of the sidebar is limited to managing playlists and content from iDevices. The rest has moved to the topbar als shown in the screenshot below.
In iTunes 11 you had to scroll down to manage playlists. You don't have to do that anymore. Playlists are always directly beside you library-view, while other function stay directly available in the white top bar.
Much better this way...

I appear to have solved at least part of my problem. In addition to running the application firewall that's accessible from System Preferences, I run ipfw via the WaterRoof frontend. I have my firewall rules carefully crafted to my needs, including open ports for iTunes sharing, Bonjour, etc., all according to Apple's documentation.
However, I don't see anywhere that they've documented this. On disabling the ipfw firewall, I found AirPlay worked again. Further testing and examination of the logs revealed that the Mac had been denying inbound packets coming from the AirPort Express and destined for UDP port 6002. So far I can find no official documentation saying iTunes or AirPlay uses that port, but allowing it through the firewall seems to have worked. This wasn't necessary in earlier versions of iTunes, and I'm not sure why it has changed now.
I haven't tested streaming to the iPhone yet.

Ok, I have used itunes for many years and I cannot find the sidebar genius that used to suggest similar songs based on ones purchased that you could turn on when going through you library. I amsl cannot find "other versions" from the drop down when purchasing tos earch for covers etc?
Sooo, disappointing. Does anyone know where they are?

This is incorrect.
The Photos tab is always available when you have your iDevice connected.
First open iPhoto, move the photos you want to get rid of to the trash, then close iPhoto.
No one seems to want to delete the photos from iPhoto/computer.
They just don’t want them to sync to the iPad.

UPDATE:
I need to add somthing to keep some from getting confused:
1. Open the sidebar.
2. Click on "Music" at the top of the list.
3. Click on any Artist in your list
4. Click the Artists button in the top middle.
5. Click "In The Store" on the top right.
Now you get recommendations similar to this artist.
If you are in your music list click the little arrow and "show in itunes store" for recommendations

"View > Hide Toolbar" will toggle both - Toolbar and Sidebar at once,

Where is the Genius Sidebar on itunes 11 ???? Don't tell me that they have remove this wonderful feature ?....

I looked under file but I couldn't find the "Genius & Playlist" option. I also looked under the other options on the top left side but I couldn't find it there either. And all "Genius suggestions" does for me is show similar songs already purchased in my library. It doesn't show me anything new that I haven't purchased.

Where is the blog sidebar in Template?

Hi folks,
On the main blog page, it has a sidebar:

But on the actual post pages, there is none, nor is there one in the Blog Template.
The sidebar has archive, recent posts, etc. I'd like to add that information to another template, but I cannot find the source for this code on any template page... Not sure how it gets on the Blog Retrieve page...

Content not lining up in the sidebar with the content located in the main area?

Hello, I’ve created a website using Dreamweaver CS4 and have come across an issue while using a template. The template I’m using is: 2 column fixed, right sidebar, header and footer. The problem seems to be in the sidebar where the content does not start at the top, it seems to be about 15px below the content in the main area. I can't find any CSS or any reason why it's starts where it does. It seems to look like even and as it should in Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari but not in IE9. The page is live at www.Lots2Homes.com and you'll see the content is lower in the right sidebar than in the main area to the left. The code for the home page and CSS is below. This has me going in circles, any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Your template contains an IE Conditional Comment that is adding 30px of top padding to #sidebar1. This padding may required in older versions of IE but not IE9.

To fix it, change [if IE] to [if lt IE 9]

How can I display the sidebar on my desktop?

I just migrated to Lion from Snow Leopard. I used to see a sidebar on my desktop – by "desktop" I mean the initial page that displays for "Finder" – the one with wallpaper. That way I had a list of shortcuts (in the sidebar) on the left side of the screen, and icons on the main desktop space (on the right side of the screen). How do I get this to display the way I'm used to?

You are not talking about the Dock are you? Where you could open Safari, Mail, Dashboard etc. from are you?

Why can't I get any devices to show in the sidebar of a finder window?

Until recently I had devices (hard drives, DVD's, disk images, etc show up under devices in the sidebar of a finder window. Now none of these items show up. In Finder Preferences>Sidebar>Devices I nave all 4 checked (Bob's Mac Pro, Hard disks, External disks and CDs, DVDs and iPods). I tried rebooting. I tried unchecking the 4 boxes and rechecking them to no avail. It's annoying that I have to find an icon on the desktop to open these items. Any suggestions?
This is a Mac Pro running 10.9.5.

Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and com.apple.sidebarlists.plist. Move the .plists to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Personal File Sharing & Network in the Sidebar

I have had the same symptoms as other posts; but the real answer was not given, YET.
If you use the Network icon in the Sidebar, and you move between networks, Where or How do you Refresh the Finder? Rebooting or Shutdown is not the answer. Windows Networking on PCs allows for Refreshing, why not OS X?
My Senario: iMac G5 1.9 & iBook G4 1.33, both 10.4.10, no broadband, I share via Ad-Hoc. Both connect and IP given 169.x.x.x.
iBook will see iMac via Finder>Network Sidebar after about 5 seconds. iMac will not see iBook via Finder>Network Sidebar. Both have Network and Sharing set the same.
Using CMD+k, entering IP will bring up Authenticate window, which is fine, but DHCP is on, and the IP changes each time. Want Finder>Network to find the computer for me.
Using ShiftCMDK, on iBook, sometimes opens the Network Finder window, most times it never opens. (when at home)
iBook goes to hot-spots and when I come home, I want to off-load files to the iMac. The Network Sidebar remembers the last Network you were connected to with a list of all the computers you could connect to; I sleep the iBook.

Big tip: I found an old Apple Article which states;
"The Local Hostname for your computer is an alternative to the network address. It is followed by ".local". Users on the same network subnet as your computer can use the Local Hostname name to access certain resources on your computer, such as your personal website. If you work in a large network environment, users on a different IP subnet cannot use the Local Hostname name of your computer."
So, if you use CMD+k while on your LAN and use "nnn.local" for the IP, you get the Authenticate window. This works fine, both machines can do this all day; But, still does not answer nor solve the question...

Couple of things that Might work...
sudo ipconfig set en0 BOOTP;sudo ipconfig set en0 DHCP
sudo ifocnfig en1 down
sudo ifconfig en1 up
(use en0 for Ethernet, en1 for Airport, etc.)
But making a New Location for each place would probably work best/easiest. You can tailor each location to it's needs.

On iTunes 11 you can re-enable the sidebar via View > Show Sidebar. To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes (if you've enabled the sidebar), and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you haven't enabled the sidebar, then from you library click 'iPad' at the top right of the screen and you should get a series of buttons along the top of the screen, including one for Photos
