Where is the top toolbar on the desktop

Just got a Mac Mini. I can't seem to get the top toolbar to appear. Is it no longer on the new OS ?

Should be there. Try restarting the computer. If that doesn't work, then reinstall OS X.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Where is the desktop redirector with Desktop Manager 6?

A client of ours had upgraded his version of Desktop manager to 6 from 5.something.
There is no more link for the Redirector under START - PROGRAMS - BLACKBERRY
The icon for the redirector still shows up in his start menu, however, it says that it's not started.
Where can I find the software with the new desktop manager?  I've tried reinstalling the desktop manager already but still cannot find it, nor were there any options during the installation to include it.

I've looked for this and cannot find it either.  I want to be able to hide the Blackberry bar at the bottom of the screen when I minimized the software.

  • Where is the desktop picture stored if you set it from the finder?

I've read several discussions here asking where this is stored but none of them address the location when you use the Finder to set a desktop picture. I've looked in all Libary folders and Safari and can't find it. How can I locate it?

Finder takes the actual directory of the picture you set as a desktop background and the "com.apple.desktop.plist" file in ~/Library/Preferences points to the directory of the picture you set as the desktop background. It's not stored in any other folder

  • Can I change where on the desktop a file opens?

Is it possible to control where a file opens on the desktop?
I have one file that I use a lot and I always want it on the right side of the screen but it always opens on the left and I have to drag it over. Is there a way to make the finder remember where I want it?
    Thanks, David

    Cambook,
It isn't a folder causing the problems, it's a Text Edit file that I keep on a flash drive and use all the time. The folder does remember where it was previously, but when I open the text edit file it opens just exactly where I don't want it to be and have to move it every time.
    Any ideas? Thanks, David

  • Here's a Lion-noob question... where are the desktop icons?

like the harddrive. the one that usually pops up in the upper right hand corner and says "Macintosh" along the bottom?

Click onto the Desktop, select Preferences from the Finder menu. Click on the General icon in the toolbar. Check the boxes for the items you want displayed. Click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar and configure what is displayed in the sidebar.

  • Where are the Desktops?

Hi guys, someone can help help me with the Mission Control and the desktop? So, we know that MC should do whet Space did with SL, but in SL I was able to assign appz the the Spaces (1, 2, 3, etc) and have that forever. Now I´m trying to do the same thing with MC, instead to add space I add desktop and assign it an app, right? The problem is that when I restart the Mac, all those setting I created desappear and everything go back to the default setting of Lion.
Any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Sus,
Go to System Administration->Portal Display->Desktop & Display Rules->Browse Portal COntent->administrator->Super Administrator->Mater Rule Colection (right click and open object)
Here you'll find the rule that are asigned and working actively inside portal.
And, to see all the available desktops, go to System Administration->Portal Display->Desktop & Display Rules->Browse Portal COntent->Content Provided by SAP->End user Content->Standard Portal User.
In order to create a new desktop, copy object from here and paste to your folder. No change should be made into this folder.

  • Switching users.  Where'd the desktop flipping animation go?

All of a sudden, when we switch users the fun desktop flipping animation doesn't work anymore. I'm a dope, as I'm sure this is an easy fix. If anyone can help me, it would make my day. Thank you, all!

Is it possible that you have different monitor settings (resolutions, etc) on one user?
Sometimes a corrupted color profile can cause this too.

  • Why can't I see the icons on my toolbar on my desktop

I backed up my computer because my startup disk was full, and now I can't see the icons on the top toolbar on my desktop, the icons for (send, trash etc) in Mail and the icons in the Safari App.  I have deleted things to empty the computer but this is a new computer (a month) so I feel like this should NOT be happening.
    HELP ME!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • How does the system decide where to put a file on the desktop?

So you've just created some sort of file, and you choose to save it to the desktop.   A second later--presto!--the file icon appears on the screen.
How does the computer decide where on the desktop to put that icon?

I'm not 100% on this, but I think the system will save files to the last destination you nominated unless you designate another destination at the point of saving. I guess you previously saved something to the Desktop.
Just tested it on my two Macs and that's how it behaves here.

  • Part of .pdf doesn't show text when opened in firefox but does show when downloaded to the desktop

i noticed on my laptop, where the entire contents of the .pdf is viewable, within Firefox - under
Firefox / Tools / Options / Applications / there is an app called JPS file whereas on the desktop this app does not appear

Have you researched the site you mentioned? I went to it and WOT gave me a red flag.
At this moment, we are aware of issues pertaining to PDF.js and we suggest installing the following add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pdfjs/

  • Adobe reader 11 where do the downloaded documents go by default in windows 8.1?

Just installed adobe 11, looks like the downloaded documents go into a hidden temp file?

What are you viewing the PDF file in?  A web browser?  if yes, this is normal, but you should be able to save any where on the desktop, the My Documents folder or anywhere.

  • Where is the arrow back botton at the top left corner of the of the desktop?

Why and Where is the arrow back botton at the top left corner of the of the desktop or computer? Its the arrow that you can click if you want to go back to the previous page of your screen?

The back/forward arrows are now at the right of the Navigation bar, you can use customize to move them back to the left side. The drop-down arrow was removed, you now use right-click or hold left click to see the context menu for back/forward.

You can make '''Firefox 6.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 6.0, look like 3.6)]. ''Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.''

There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.

  • Where are the toolbar icons located on a mac

I want to find out where the toolbar icons are found in the OSX.
The ones that  I am refereing to are those found in finder windows at the top, that show things like the quickview icon etc.
I want to be able to make my own for scripts that I want to place in the bar, so if anyone knows where I can download a template etc I would be very grateful
    Many Thanks
    Matt

You create an alias in the top bar of the Finder window simply by dragging the source file onto the middle area of the bar. What you'll get for a script file I'm not sure, but if it's not to your taste it should be possible to change the icon of the source file in the 'get info' window and then re-drag it to the toolbar.
To remove items from there, you need to hold down the command key (⌘) while dragging to the desktop (same goes for sidebar).
