Where is the Trash in Mail?

I have searched all over preferences and under main menu drop down menus. I cannot find an option to show a Trash mailbox. And yet, Under Accounts - Mailbox Behavior - Trash, there is a checkbox to “Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox.”
I see Junk and Delete. But where is Trash in Mail?
Duh.

That's not up to you to decide. The account type is defined by the email provider. Some do allow a choice. I believe that the majority do not. If they do, they'll give you a choice in the account configuration and setup directions that they provide to you.
To the best of my knowledge, .mac is NOT one of those that give you a choice.
When you selected .mac in account setup, it is, essentially, imap. I really don't know what any differences are between selecting ".mac" and selecting "imap", and if none, why the distinction between the two during account setup is made. Maybe it was just to make things "easier" for .mac folks; some sort of marketing gizmo.
The only benefit I see to POP accounts is if you are paranoid about storing your mail on a server. However, until it was downloaded, it was stored there anyways. The big benefit that I see with IMAP is that regardless of from what computer you are accessing your account, your mailboxes on the different computers stay synchronized with one another, so the mailboxes on one computer don't get out of whack with those on another computer. It is always the "latest and greatest."

  • Where did the link to Mail go!!?

OK. I am totally confused and lost, and getting very frustrated.
I can no longer simply go to Mail via Safari.
    I go here:
    http://www.apple.com/
and there is no link to mail.
So I click Mac. And it takes me to this:
    http://www.apple.com/mac/
Still no sign of Mail. I am looking all over this page. There is a “Why You’ll Love a Mac,” “watch ads,” .Mac, but it is not a link. Under that is a link to log in (I am already logged in but, ok, I’ll try it anyway.)
That takes me to http://www.apple.com/dotmac/. STILL NO SIGN OF MAIL! Instead, it’s a bunch of prompts for signing up for a .Mac account. (I have one and have had for three years.)
    Where is mail?

    But, Simon...
where is the link to mail?
I did use your link (as I have before) but nowhere on this page is there a link to mail. Is it hidden somewhere? Is it a secret? All I see are ads for using .Mac.
    This is what I see:
    • Tour .Mac
    • One-click web publishing
    • Photocast with iPhoto
    • Exchange files from anywhere
    • Communicate Apple style
    • Bring groups together
    • Stay in sync
    • Backup your life
    • How it works
    • .Mac in action
    • Membership options
Where the heck is Mail? And why did Apple decide to make it so difficult to find?

  • Where is the trash icon?

Just got my new Droid 2...dude says put unwanted widgets in trash. Where is the trash? Why isn't there a manual that tells you where the trash is?

Right. Long press on a short cut and the trash can displays at the bottom of the screen. Long press also works to move things.

  • Help!!! where is the trash folder in mail?????

    hello everyone,
i just purchased a macbook.. my first ever. i started using the mail program... but, there is no trash folder. ive changed the "mailbox behaviors" to move deleted messages to the trash mailbox... but there IS NO trash mailbox.. unless i am crazy... the only folders i see listed on the left side are :
    INBOX
    SENT
and the e-mail accounts that I have added...
someone please help me! i am sooo confused!
    thank you so much!

I am using IMAP for an AOL e-mail account
Well, that probably explains it. I bet you have checked Store deleted messages on the server. If so, this is not an IMAP issue, but rather an AOL issue (actually, .Mac is IMAP as well).
AOL doesn't let mail clients create mailboxes at the root level of the account directory, only as subfolders of Saved, and I'm not sure even that is possible now.
You may find instructions for setting up an AOL account in Mail here:
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html
The instructions are for Mail 1.3, but they can be used for Mail 2.x as well, noting that the Special Mailboxes preference pane is called Mailbox Behaviors in Mail 2.x.
You may also want to read the more general guide the above article is part of:
Accessing the AOL Mail System using IMAP - An Unofficial Guide
BTW, in the case of Trash or Junk, I don't see the point of storing those messages on the server, even if that would work. They take valuable space there for no apparent benefit. I would only store Sent messages on the server (which cannot be done with AOL either).

  • IOS 8.2 : Message : Where is the trash can ?

    Hi all !
Just gave my mother an iPad, She asked me once how to delete a message/picture in the Message App. I show it to her. I have since updated her iPad to iOS 8.2 and the trash seems to have disappeared. On the iPhone, it is there. But not on the iPad.
My mother, aged 75 and who hates technology,  asked me to phone the company and tell them that she wants her trash bin back
    Here you go apple.

It should be there where Demo states it is, under the circumstances he mentions. I've run across this same issue where the trash can was simply NOT there, despite the fact that it should've been there. A device reset cleared that up. Give it a try.
    Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
    1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
    2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
    3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

  • Where is the .trash directory?

Hi there, I have a .QT file taking up a lot of space on my HDD, i've used the whatsize program to locate the file and it deletes it to the .trash directory. However this is not the usual Trash folder so there is nothing to delete permanently from there.
Where can I find this directory and empty it so I can free up some valuable GB's on my HDD.
    Thanks,
    Luke.

I belive that the .trash is an invisable file, which means that you won't be able to see the file. to erase it I would look in a cleanup program. the one on the link below is called root machine.. in it I would try the basic empty trash securly, or go into the toold part and where it says trash info and lists the amount in the white oval just click on the oval, that should do the trick.

  • Where is the "Trash"?

I am curious as to where the trash can resides. I assumed it was on the hard drive. The reason for the question is my powerbook just came back from repair (third time in less than a year) and they replaced the hard drive as well as the logic board. My son turned it on and found a music video (Thriller in case any body wants to know) in the trash. I had watched it a couple days before it went into the shop. How could it have survived?

    its on the hard drive?
if you put someting in the trash it makes that area of hard drive writeable again when you empty it. if you dont empty it you can take files out and use them again. if you empty it you can use software to try and rescue it if that area of the hardrive has not been writen over yet. if you secure empty it the files/disk area u erase are writen over or whats called zeroed out a few times this makes recovery virtualy impossable.
so to your question??? i have no idea how the file was there was it on a pod or other storeage device?? if you take files off a disk and place them in the trash but dont empty it when you put that disk or storage device back in the files will appear in the trash again prehaps this is whats happened??

  • Where is the trash in iMovie 10?

I have inadvertently moved some iMovie events to the trash. I expected to be able to find them in the trash bin, but they are not there. Where do events that are moved to the trash go - and more importantly how can I recover them?
After I moved the events I want to recover to the trash, I then created a "test event" in iMovie (with one video clip) and moved it to the trash, to see if I could find and recover it. I cannot find the test event in the trash either.
I'm looking in the main trash bin, in the dock on my desktop. Am I looking in the wrong place? Does iMovie have its own trash?

I agree it is a bug (I'm in the Netherlands too as it happens) and it should be easily correctable.
In case there is a misunderstanding -  I am not an Apple representative - this is a user's forum and I'm a user just the same as you.  We are just trying to help each other out.  It's possible to report a bug to Apple at:

  • Where is the trash icon to delete photos?

The just-published iPad Portable Genius book by Paul McFedries clearly states: To delete a photo, follow these steps: 1. Tap Photos in the Home screen. The Photo app appears. 2. Locate the Image you want to blow away. For example, if you know the photo is part of a particular event, open that event stack. 3. Tap the doomed photo. The Photos app opens the photo. 4. Tap the screen to reveal the controls. 5. Tape the Delete button (the trash can icon). The Photos app asks you to confirm the deletion. 6. Tap Delete Photo. The Photos app tosses the photo into the trash, wipes its hands, and returns you to the photos.
My problem is that the trash icon doesn't appear on the screen! It appeared one time a few days ago, so perhaps a downloaded app is causing the glitch. Any ideas, anyone? Thank you so much.

Photos created on the iPad or detached from emails (for example) can be deleted via a trashcan icon. But photos synced from iTunes have to be deleted from the synced albums (and not directly from the pad)

  • Where is the trash on Lion?

    Hi,
This should be easy, but I can't for the life of me find the trash icon after having upgraded to Lion. I used to have it on my desktop and in my sidebar. How can I make the trash visible again?

I have noticed that ejecting a drive no longer dosplays as 'eject' when dragging to the trash. it displays as 'trash' now. why no longer the 'eject' vs 'trash' distinction?

  • Where is the trash mailbox

it is not on the sidebar ?  how to put it there?

I would take this question to the OS X Lion forum, since this forum is for the MacBook Pro hardware.  On my side panel, I see the Trash Mailbox, so I'm not sure what your issue  might be.  I'm sure someone there will help you.

  • Mail - where is the trash can

This is my 3rd install of OSX 10.4.5 - this time when I created an email account there is no trash can - I see how to make new mailbox folders but can not find where thetrash is hidden - please help - thanks

    Hi again,
In each account folder, and sometimes in the Mailboxes folder, there is a Deleted Messages.mbox, but it is only created by Mail (and not by you) after first deleting a message in the Inbox of each account, and for the one for On My Mac, until a messages is deleted from an On My Mac mailbox.
Also, in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors, you have to have selected to have deleted messages moved a separate mailbox.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where is the FILE/New Mail Account or account settings buttons... can't find them on the firefox page?????

    Help,
New to Firefox. Where do I find the "file" button????

    Hello,
The menu bar is hidden as most commands can be found in the three bar menu. You can show it by pressing Alt, or by right clicking one of the spaces around your address bar and clicking Menu Bar, or by going to the three bar menu:
    * [[Image: New Fx Menu]] > Customize > Show / Hide Toolbars > Menu Bar
As for the New Mail Account, are you sure you're not confusing Firefox with Thunderbird, the email application?
