Where is there a mac word 2004 forum?

clearly there is no space for it here.

I saw that page, but there weren't any forums there.
As I mentioned, the Microsoft support page I linked to has a link to newsgroups, where you can read others' questions and ask your own questions amongst other Word users. It's not technically a forum, but I was thinking it would serve the same purpose that you're looking for.
Scroll down on that Microsoft support page and you'll see "Post a question to the newsgroup" with a link to the Newsgroup page. That page has links to newsgroups specific to each Microsoft Office product, including this browser link for the Word newsgroup.

    Hi Jeffrey,
Try to browse to the folder /Users/ username/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/ and see if you can find the Normal.dotm file.
Also, here is the dedicated forum for Office for Mac, you can post your question there:

  • Editing a document done in Word 2004. I can't remove lines done in Word. Using Mac Mini with 10.9.4

I am unable to a remove lines from a document originally done in 2004 using  Mac Word 2004 while running it on Pages. Using Mac Mini with OSX 10.9.4.
Tried to delete lines. Delete is not highlighted in Pages.

The version of Pages is the most useful extra information, it hardly matters what Mac you are using.
Menu > Pages > About Pages
The line could possibly be an underline or a paragraph border or a line which is a separate object underneath the rest of the text.
Probably it is a paragraph border.

  • Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document

Why is the word count different when I use word count from the tools menu to the number at the bottom of my mac word document

This forum is for Apple's defunct office suite 'AppleWorks' - since the word count is not in the places you mention I assume you are talking about Microsoft Word? Though it's just possible someone in this forum might also use Word and know the answer, you would stand a higher chance of getting an answer in Microsoft's own forums. You could also try asking in the forum applicable to your operating system - Lion, Mavericks or whatever - on the reasonably chance of finding someone familiar with Word.

  • Compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 on G5 PowerMac?

Are there compatibility issues with Mac OSX Leopard V. 10.5 and Word 2004 11.6.3 when installed on a PowerMac G5? I understand the Leopard upgrade is okay on the later Intel Mac, but what about my G5 PowerPC Mac?

I do not use Microsoft Excel much but when i do use it it works fine on my G5. my powerbook has excel to but sometimes freezes on the powerbook. but not the G5 so give it a try you can always uninstall it if it does not work good

Thanks so much for your positive reply! Are you a big user of Excel? That's where I've heard people have had trouble, with cells locking up and so on.

  • Can you print in notebook view in MS Office Word 2004 (for mac)?

I'd like to use the notebook view in Word 2004 (Mac version) to take notes in class, and I would also like to print them in that view (notebook pages style). It doesn't do it automatically, I was hoping there was a way of having it print the notebook lines; and I can't seem to find any print options to do so.

    Desidarius:
I am confirming the following for you. I have Word 2008.
Word 2008 offers the Notebook Layout view (We know this).
Notebook Layout View prints through Word's normal printing routines, which means that *it doesn't include such UI elements as notebook rings, rulers, and hole-punches.*
However, bullets, checkboxes, and note flags are considered in-document content so these do print.

  • Error msg. after installing word 2004 for mac

I have installed my Word 2004 for Mac on my brand-new iMac. It works fine, but every time I open it, I get the following message: "An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework Library." Anyone know what this means and how I can get rid of it? Many thanks.....Macquest

Apply all updates for Office. There should be an item named "Microsoft AutoUpdate" in your Applications folder. Run the app and let it download and install the updates it finds. If you're multiple updates back, you'll need to repeat the process after each update until it tells you that the software is up to date.

  • Word 2004 for Mac "Notebook"

    Hi,
I'm a new Mac user. I've been using Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac's "Notebook" feature to take notes and record the audio for my class lectures. In the last week, my MacBook has locked-up three times when trying to stop the audio recording at the end of the lecture. Twice, I was able to recover the text, but not the audio. This morning, I was only able to recover part of the text. This morning, for the first time, it also locked up while recording and I lost both text and audio. It has typically locked-up as soon as I press "stop."
Could I be doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Jake

Since Word is not an Apple product, you'll probably want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups> rather than an Apple forum.
Be sure to search the forum first in case someone has already had a similar question answered

  • Modifying Word 2003 documents on Win XP partition from Word 2004 on Mac

    Hello -
I was under the impression that installing Win XP SP2 on a FAT32-formatted Boot Camp partition would allow me to create Word documents in Windows (using Word 2003), and then open and modify the documents when I am back running under OSX Leopard. I can open the documents from OSX in Word 2004 for Mac, but if I change the document and then try to save it back to the Win XP partition I get the error message:
"You cannot save while the file is in use by another process. Try saving the file with a new name."
When I try to save with a new name (again, from Word 2004 for Mac, to the Win XP partition) I then get the error message:
"Word cannot save or create this file. The disk may be full or write-protected..."
I can of course save the modified file on the Mac partition, but was hoping I'd have the option of also being able to work with Win XP Word files directly from Mac OSX as well. Anyone have any insight into getting around this issue? Thanks much.

Thanks for the response - I'll keep a note of that forum for any future problems I may have.
I've come up with my own workaround for the problem though.
It seems that new documents I create on the Mac work just fine in Windows. So I simply created a blank document on the Mac, set up the document margins etc to match the edited document I was having trouble with and copied the entire contents over. Worked a treat. Must have been the way it was created in the first place.

  • Help: Word 2004/Mac wiped out all my customized commands, etc.!

I opened Word 2004 for Mac (Version 11.2) on my G4 15" Powerbook this morning and discovered that it had reverted to its factory install settings and wiped out all my preferences, toolbar customizations, and (many, many) customized keyboard commands.
Neither my Entourage settings nor my Styles have been affected, so the problem seems to be with preferences, toolbar, and keyboard settings only, and not with Office 2004 for Mac or Mac OS 10.3.9. This seems to have happened spontaneously, because everything was working normally when I shut down my computer last night.
I have a copy of my most recent keyboard settings, though not toolbars and preferences, but restoring everything will be extremely time-consuming, and since I'm on a deadline, I'm very ticked off! Can anyone tell me (1) Why this happened, (2) If there's any way to restore all my stuff without doing it all from scratch?; (3) How to prevent this happening again?
Oh, and one more aggravating thing: (4) The Word "Help" window is now so big that the lower right corner no longer shows on the screen of my laptop, and even when I click the green button to minimize the screen, I can't get at that corner to reduce the size of the window. Anyone know how to make the Help window (much) smaller?
Many thanks for any suggestions or information!

Hi, Turtlewiz. Always remember, each time Word kicks you in the teeth, that it's not a bug, it's a feature! Word may temporarily have forgotten that it knows what you want much better than you do, and allowed you to choose some settings and create some customizations yourself. Now that Word has regained its senses, all that silliness is over and you're back at its mercy again. In other words, the situation is normal, as most Word users can attest.
The remedy is to use a different word processor — one that lets you be in charge, instead of dictating the terms of your capitulation at the most inopportune of times.

  • Word 2004 for mac purchase

i just purchased word 2004 for mac from apple store online. am i to assume that i will be able to open word docs through my ISP that are attached to my emails ? and can i download only the specific apps (i.e., word, exel, etc.) that i want to use? as you can tell, i am not familiar with this. thank you!!

If you purchased the entire Office 2004 package, you can opt not to install applications you don't want. Word 2004 will open Word documents attached to emails.

Good news is that I can access all my documents. Bad news is I had to pay $150 for it.
I spent a lot of time trying to find a solution before buying.  I did not try the launch terminal solution....
I will check back so I can find out what to do should this happen again.
More possible bad news.  If you had followed what fane_j had asked you to do you might have found out it wasn't microsoft's fault for your problem and wouldn't have had to spend $150.  Because while you may have an Office that works, fane_j was not suggesting a solution but probing for a trojan (google "flashback trojan") that has been crashing powerpc code which is what Office 2004 is.
So if you do have the trojan, while you can run a version of Office, the trojan may still be in your system since installing a version of Office isn't going to remove it.  So I'll make another request.  Launch Terminal (in your Utilities folder) and copy/paste the following line into the terminal window and hit return:
    defaults read ~/.MacOSX/environment
If you see anything other than a "does not exist" error message you almost certainly do have the trojan and post the results in this thread.
The choice is yours.  You can ignore this and take the risk.  Or do what has been requested.
