Where is "users-admin" now that gnome-system-tools is deprecated ?

Hello everyone,
I have already used the "users-admin" package from gnome to manage the permissions of the users, but, since gnome 3.2 the gnome-system-tools package which contained the users-admin package has been deprecated and replaced by gnome-control-center. So my question is, how can I reinstall the users-admin application, or, use another gnome application to do the same thing ?
I don't really think that it is a good idea for Gnome to place an application as deprecated and not propose an alternative.
Thanks in Advance,
Luis Da Costa

It is not the same but still a good option XD I really don't understand why the gnome team dropped a good tool like users-admin :S...

Now that the system is retiring clan you recommend any other system.

I have reviewed the recommended companies . I am unable to find another survey tool that makes submission data available via an excel spreadsheet-type table within the survey tool. Do you have a specific recommendation for a company that handles the backside of data similarly. I don't want to export my data to an excel spreadsheet to play with it. I'd like to sort, edit, etc. within the survey tool.

  • [SOLVED]GNOME-SYSTEM-TOOLS: The configuration could not be loaded

    Hello there!
I'm a ubuntu user completely new to arch. I got my desktop up and running but there seems to be a problem setting up the gnome-system-tools program. Whenever I try to laaunch any application in this package I get this error message:
The configuration could not be loaded
You are not allowed to access the system configuration.
I tried the solution on this forum thread (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=45854 ), but to no avail. I am still getting the same error message. This is my DAEMONS line in rc.conf:
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal stbd !network !dhcdbd !networkmanager wicd netfs crond alsa fam gdm)
I have added both my user and root to the stb-admin group, this is the part of my groups file that shows this:
    stb-admin:x:103:root,abhishek
Can anyone please help me figure out where I'm going wrong.
    Many thanks in advance.

I was reading post installation wiki and found the following command to reinstall the whole system:
    pacman -S $(comm -3 <(pacman -Qq) <(pacman -Qqm))
As a few things were not going right and I was unable to solve the problems using the ordinary methods, I decided to run the above command and now everything seems to be working fine .Though I'm not sure that this will remain like that, as the process was inturrpted a couple of times such that I had to hard reset the laptop.
But everything seems to be going fine now - the system tools have started to work normally and another gnome-related problem has been solved.:D

  • [Solved]gnome-system-tools You are not allowed access to sys config

I did a FTP install of i686 Arch Linux on a friend's machine.  I could not get gnome-system-tools to work, keep getting:
The configuration could not be loaded
You are not allowed access to the system configuration
So, I tried gnome-system-tools on an i686 Arch install on my machine, and gnome-system-tools worked.  Then I did a pacman -Syu  and fully updated the system.  The updates included udev which now prints how long udev events took on boot up.  After the updates, gnome-system-tools no longer works.  Same symptoms as the new install.
Both machines have stbd in the /etc/rc.conf DAEMONS line.  Both the user and root in both machines are part of the stb-admin group.  Using gksu or launching as root in a terminal window results in the same problem.  The problem seems to be in system-tools-backends which works in conjuntion with dbus as I get this error:
(time-admin:7607): Liboobs-WARNING **: There was an unknown error communicating with the backends:
Process /usr/share/system-tools-backends-2.0/scripts/SystemToolsBackends.pl exited with status 127
gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends are part of the community group, so as far as I know, writing a bug report is out.  Both gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends are out of date in community.  system-tools-backends is version 2.4.1 and the current version is 2.6.0.  I tried using makepkg to compile the new 2.6.0 version of system-tools-backends but it fails saying it needs dbus >= 1.1.2 but version of dbus is 1.0.2.  So it appears that dbus is out of date also.  That is a far as I got.
I know this has been a problem in the past, but I got it working until this latest update.
Anyone got any ideas on this?

When I entered the Original Post, I had rebuilt gnome-system-tools as this had fixed the problem the last time.  When I went to rebuild system-tools-backends, I had decided I needed to try and build the latest version of it, which didn't work as stated above.  By this time the lateness of the hour, and the current frustration level caused me to quit for the night and write this thread.  I am fairly sure I did NOT rebuild the current system-tools-backends.
Anyway, deleting gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends, then rebuilding the current version of both gnome-system-tools and system-tools-backends fixed the problem.   Be sure to follow the post installation comments from system-tools-backends.

I've had the same problem with my users-admin and users-time... I've tried all the fixes from most of these posts... except for that string of code that someone wrote in this post: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=42910
    for file in `pacman -Ql gnome-system-tools | grep desktop | cut -d" " -f2`; do cat $file | sudo sed 's/\(^Exec=\)\(.*-admin\)/\1gksudo \2/g' | sudo tee temp.desktop.tmp; sudo mv temp.desktop.tmp $file; done
I wasn't sure what this string actually would do, so I haven't tried it yet. I figured there would be an easier way of fixing this problem. Like a simple edit in the SystemToolsBackends.pl file.....
    any help would be cool.

  • Aperture. I have so many pictures and not sure where to put them now that my MacBook Pro is filled?

I have so many pictures on my Mac book pro on aperture that I can not put anymore on.  If I put them on a hard drive h
Then how do I access them like a library?

Aperture allows you to store your Images' Originals on any directly connected drive (must be formatted "Mac OS Extended, Journaled"), and gives you the option and the ability to move your Originals any time you want.
So get an external drive, format it correctly, select the Images whose Originals you want to move to that external drive, and move them using the command "File➞Relocate Originals".
An Image's Original must be on-line in order for you to be able to make adjustments, export, or print that Image.  When the Original is off-line, you are still able to change the metadata, and view and share the Image's Preview.
If you are uncertain about the parts of Aperture, my User Tip is as good a place to start as I know .
Here is the topic as covered in the well-done Users Manual.  Note that the User Manual uses the terms "Master" and "Original" synonymously, and that it confuses users by refering to referenced and managed _Images_.  Image's are not, themselves, referenced or managed.  The Original of each Image is a file (the one you imported); that file is the item that is either referenced or managed.
What Are Managed Images and Referenced Images?

  • Where clips stored iMovie- now that update corrupted FCP

Okay, the latest update has totally messed with Final Cut Pro (which was working fine for me.) Every time I try to "capture" I get a dropped frame error after 12 seconds. I read the threads on this topic and cannot resolve. So I need to capture video and edit.
I'm importing video in iMovie, which I don't use and don't like. For the life of me I cannot find the clips that import in iMovie. I don't want to export an entire Imovie into Quicktime and wait for it to render.
I just want to import some video in iMovie and find the clips and drag them into FCP so I can do some serious editing, but where do they go? How can I simply import in iMovie and get the video into FCP? Where are raw clips stored on my computer?
And shame on you Apple for your update that messed up our computers.

You'd get a better answer from the iMovie forum. You'd be hard pressed to find someone here who uses iMovie:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=141
And just so you know, iMovie does not capture timecode. So if you lose the media, or want to revisit the project after you deleted the media, you'll have no timecode to rebuilt the cut.
But seriously, if you use FCP to earn a living, then you need to do everything to get it working. If that means going back to 10.3.9 (the only supported OS that works with FCP 4.5) or an earlier version of 10.4, then that is what you should do.

  • Trying to change the name to the itunes account and made one myself because my sister use to use my computer and updating my apps where under her email now that i made my own i cant update anything on my phone its still showing my sisters email.

basically my sister used my computer and everytime we had to update our apps it would be her email thats showing and thats when i knew that pw. since shes doesnt use it anymore i made my own and now it wont let me update it its still showing hers.

To change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.
If your sister doesn't know the password for her old ID, and if her old ID is an earlier version of her current ID, she needs to temporarily recreate the old ID so you can delete if from your phone using her current password.  To do this, have her go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with her current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to her old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to her old email address.  You can now use the password for her current ID to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for her old account ID.  After you do this, Next, have your sister recreate her current ID again by going back to https://appleid.apple.com and changing her primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.
Then your can save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to the camera roll on your device, then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted.  You will be prompted to either keep or delete the iCloud data from your device.  If the data is already in another account you can choose Delete.  If you need to migrate it to another account, choose Keep, then choose Merge when signing into the new account.

  • Gnome-system-tools

Hi, I've been looking in the forums a solution to my problem, but I can't find anything. Well, here is my problem when I run gnome-power-manager (or any management application as sudo or root):
    bash-3.2# gnome-power-manager
(gnome-power-manager:3220): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
I've tried adding me to stb-admin group and using the script posted in another post, but I can't solve this.
    Thanks in advance.

You've probably already done this, but you need to start the stbd daemon.  You can start it manually as root by:
    # /etc/rc.d/stbd start
You can start stbd automatically at boot up by putting stbd in the daemons line of the /etc/rc.conf file.
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network firestarter netfs sshd crond portmap fam dbus hal !avahi-daemon samba cups sensors stbd alsa)

  • [GNOME] users-admin doesn't work at all

    GNOME 2.23.1
    gnome-system-tools 2.32.0-1
    dbus 1.4.0-1
    gksu 2.0.2-2
I've read around the forums that problems with gnome-system-tools in general were quite common, and I have a similar problem. For instance in users-admin clicking the "Add" or "Delete" button does nothing. If I run sudo users-admin, gksu users-admin, or gksudo users-admin, it results in the window coming up but greyed out, and I can't even close out of it.
Almost all of the solutions I've read were to add my user to the stb-admin group and add stbd to the Daemons. It turns out that the stb-admin group doesn't exist for me, and even if I created it I don't have /etc/rc.d/stbd, and pacman -Ss stb comes up with nothing.
Anybody else facing a similar problem?

running with sudo those commands is not the right solution.
gnome-system-tools has consolekit support and it would ask for root when is required.
    solutions:
    1) use gdm
    2) exec ck-launch-session gnome-session in ~/.xinitrc if you use startx to start the gnome session

The 2131 usually indicates firmware needs to be updated on a drive.
Head to your drivers and downloads page for your latitude at Dell, and check for updates to your firmware for your optical drives. If you're behind and you update, does that clear up the 2131?

While attempting to set up sql replication in MSSQL 2005 one of my user databases is now in the systems database folder.  I need to move it back to the user databases folder.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm still at the point where if I run

    I get
    Msg 3724, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot drop the database 'dbname' because it is being used for replication.
If I right click on the replication folder I have no disbributor properties
Somehow I need to remvoe the replication flag from the db that I have accidentally gotten it stuck on.
    Any ideas?
    Hello dsams,
Are you a member of "sysadmin" fixed server role ? If not you will not be able to configure replication.
Once you are a member of "sysadmin" then you can try the below sql or go to replication and right click on it, you will get "Disable publishing & distribution".
    use master
    go
    alter database distribution set offline;
    drop database distribution;
