Where is vector paint effect? cs6

Hi, i am trying to follow a tutorial and the person went to 'effects> paint> and then vector paint' but i realise that I dont have the paint section in my effects??
Can anyone help me understand why? Is this an extra plugin to download? I am using cs6 after effects
thanks

Vector paint is a 32 bit plug-in that was not moved to CS6. There are other options. Post a link to the tutorial and someone will be able to show you how to achieve a similar effect with CS6

  • CS4 and Vector Paint crash

I don't normally post over here in the AE forum (mostly the PPro forum) because well...AE really never has any problems for me.
However, I'm having some issues with the Vector Paint effect. I'm trying to get that "write-on" effect by using vector paint, and as I paint over the text, AE will freeze up on me and become non-responsive.
I tried turning off the OpenGL previews, but it still happens. I've got AE CS4, all the updates, on Vista 64 with a Quadro 1500 video card...
Any idea what might be happening here?

You are very likely simply running out of memory. Similar behavior can be observed with other temporal effects such as for instance here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/474366?tstart=60. In your case this is compoiunded by Vector Paint establishing its own interface and memory buffer and generally being quite hungry. The "good" way to avoid these issues would be to beef up the system with more RAM, the workaround way would be to use the native paint tools (which are much more memory friendly) or otehr techniques such as creating a mtte with the Stroke effect based on a mask path.

  • Did Vector Paint ever make it back into After Effects??

I have been missing Vector Paint (like a lot of people) since it's removal a few years ago.  I have read a lot of discussion where reviewers, etc. expected it to finally return in CS6 (with added features), but I can't find confirmation anywhere that it did indeed return.  I'm still using 5.5, and this would be a major motivator to upgrade.  If it has not, did they replace it with something different?
    Thanks.

In a recent response to another thread on Vector Paint, Todd Kopriva stated:
Our current plan--subject to change depending on many factors, of course--is to do substantial work on the paint features for After Effects releases targeted at 2014, with specific work being done to add functionality similar to that in Vector Paint (onion skinning, painting in the Composition panel, wiggly strokes). So, though we can't make promises about future features, this is a high priority for us for the near future.

Where can I get the After Effects CS6 (not CS3) user's guide. I want Adobe's, not a third party.

    Todd,
Thanks a ton. I've done searches from search engines, and I've looked at this page many times, but I had not seen this link.
I really apprreciate your help--though you probably think it was a dumb question.

  • Can anyone tell me where the default location is for the disc cache in After Effects CS6?

I recently changed the location of the disc cache in After Effects CS6 but I failed to empty the cache before changing the location and I need to delete all of the old cached files. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Sequential strokes in vector paint

Is there a way to animate vector paint strokes over time so that they appear sequentially over the time line? When I use "Animate Strokes," all the strokes appear simultaneously at the spot where the time line marker is parked.
I suppose I could do a stroke, move in the time line, then do the next stroke, but that seems really tedious and I think I've done this before in the past with previous versions of After Effects. But I can't seem remember how or make this work. (Using AE CS 3)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

When you're painting sequential frames (use the Shift+Paint option) in Vector Paint, you really don't have as much control as using Paint, but there might be some good reasons to use it still.
    You'll want to use Shift+Paint.
Make sure you don't lift your pen, or you'll start on the next frame.
Then, change your playback mode to PAST STROKES.
    that should do it.

  • Adobe After Effects CS6 takes FOREVER to lock existing frames before rendering

My After Effects CS6 locks up for 3 minutes "Locking Existing Frames" before it even begins to start rendering, every time I need to preview anything - even at the lowest possible quality.
The render goes perfectly normal - it is not the rendering that is the problem - it is the "Locking Existing Frames" process BEFORE rendering that freezes up my computer for 3 minutes, and ruining my life.
I am using Adobe After Effects CS6 on a Mac Book Pro with a 2.9 GHz Core i7 processor (2 cores) and 8 GB of RAM.
Please help me understand what is happening when it is "Locking Existing Frames," and what some solutions could be to reduce the amount of time it takes to do this.
ALSO: I have scoured the Web for hours looking for the answer to this problem, and to this point it has never been solved.  If you can solve this issue, Adobe should give you a promotion and $1 million.

    Hi Rick and Greg,
Thanks for the quick responses.  Below are all the details to all your questions.  Also - just to emphasize again - my rendering goes super awesomely fast.  It is not the rendering.  It is the "Locking Existing Frames" process before the rendering that is ruining my life.
    FREE MEMORY:
This is brand new Mac Book Pro with hardly anything stored on it.
The 8 GB of RAM is split into 2 memory slots, each with 4GB of RAM
    3RD-PARTY CODECS:
I am not aware of any third-party codecs in this system.  I imported some fonts (ITC Franklin Gothic) and some video files (see below), but I am not aware of any third-party codec installed on this system.
    DISC CACHE:
    My Disc Cache is enabled
My maximum disc cache size is 69 GB
I do not have a seperate "fast hard drive" or "SSD" seperate from my main hard drive, where I store my footage.
    MPEG SOURCE FILES:
If by source files, you're asking about the video files I imported:
    2 MP4s (5 sec. each)
3 QuickTime .mov (3 sec. each)
1 Audio-only FLV. (2 minute background music throughout video; used to be a Premiere working file)
    MULTIPROCESSING
Turned off, but still locks up forever before rendering.
    ADDITIONAL FUN FACTS:
Here are some additional observations that might help:
It doesn't just take a long time to start rendering; it freezes my entire computer for the duration of the "Locking Existing Frames" process - putting my entire life on hold for 3 minutes, every time I need to preview a minor detail... It's a nightmare.
The video is 1 min. 45 sec. long so far, and has 15 sec. to go.
The video is comprised of 99 percent motion graphics, and 1 percent actual footage (Occupy Wall Street hates my footage)
The complexity in this video is that there are a lot of compositions inside of compositions inside of compositions, but even when I go to the very beginning of the first comp - where the only animation is a line being drawn with the "Stroke" effect - it still takes 3 minutes to "Lock Existing Frames."
Again... The rendering goes super fast after the "Locking Existing Frames" process.  The problem is NOT with the rendering.  The problem is the "Locking Existing Frames" process BEFORE the rendering starts.
This is my job and I can't do efficiently until I solve this problem, so I will be very responsive until we can identify the issue.
Thanks again for all your helpful responses!

  • Audio problem in Adobe After Effects CS6

When ever i import a clip into adobe after effects cs6 the program does not read my clips audio i know how to ram preview its just the program doesnt read the audio what so ever but when i preview the clip on my desktop using windows media player it works fine and you can here the audio. My clips are recorded by my HDPVR Haupauge and it records in m2ts file someone please help me this is a serious problem with this program

    Hi,
When you installed the full version, DId it install "Over" the existing one, or is it seen as a new installation (Sorry, I have never re-installed AE, so I am not sure of the way it works) - but coming from an IT background, sometimes installing a bought version, will overwrite all user settings that were set up in the trial.
In other words, recheck all the program user properties and audio check boxes to make sure the re-installation did not reset something to "off".
There are a few Audio discussions going around today, check the forum and give them a quick read to get a reminder of where all the possible Adio "on/off" switches are hidden.
    Hope that helps

  • After effects CS6 error file cannot be imported - this 'moov' file is damaged or unsupported

    Hi there,
    I'm working in After Effects CS6 (11.0.2.11)
I imported an AAF that was exported from Avid MC 6.5.2. I colour corrected and graded the sequence using colorista 2 and magic bullet looks and some other native AE FX.
Before exporting I decided to double check something to do with the audio. I imported the same AAF into FCP 7, took a quick look, but decided nothing needed to be done. I tabbed back to AE (which was left open), and upon returning, AE started giving me all these 'damaged or unsupported' errors.
Subsequently, AE will now not import any quicktime movies - even ones I rendered out of after effects earlier in the day (these quicktimes use ProRes422 codecs, animation codecs and other lossless codecs)
I've restarted, re-exported the AAF several times using diff settings, uninstalled perian... but to no success.
Anyone got any good ideas? I've had this happen before, where AE will import an AAF and it works first time no problem. Then something happens when I re-open the project and boom... 'moov' errors. It's really odd and very annoying - esp since it now won't import other normal quicktime movies too - with the animation codec. I have quicktime 7 pro installed and quicktime X on Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.3).

    System Details: MacPro (OS10.8.3) 2 x 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon, 24GB RAM, Radeon HD 5870 1GB

I have the exact same problem on a Mac with 10.8.3 and After Effects from the Adobe CS6 MasterCollection (AE 11.0.2.11 (german)): all of a sudden I cannot import any native QuickTime-Movies (ProRes, Animation) or even movies that use e.g. H264 in a QuickTime container. Even projects that worked 2 days ago that contain QuickTime-movies will not open anymore.
This happened 2 days ago without any action from me that I can think of that could have caused this. I did not install any new codecs or plugins, nor was there anything in the apple software update.
What I tried/checked so far (to no avail):
    disks are OK,
    file permissions are OK,
    no Firewall is blocking anything,
    deleted AE-prefs,
    removed all 3rd-party plugins,
    removed all 3rd-party codecs.
Edit: I did some further poking around, and it turns out that after deleting or resetting file permissions of the folder "~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects" AE will briefly allow you to open an existing project that contains QT-movies. If you then try to import any QT-movie you get the error message -- and after that you cannot open the project again.
This is really bad -- AE is basically unusable right now.
P.S.: The (german) error-message is this: "After Effects Fehler: Die Datei "filname.mov" kann nicht importiert werden: Datei "MooV" ist entweder beschädigt oder wird nicht unterstützt."

  • Encoder settings for WMV9 in After Effects CS6

    Hello!
I'm wondering if there's any way to get more information about the settings used by the encoder when using WMV9.  The reason why I ask is that I do some work in After Effects CS6 but then want to use Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 to encode a video in WMV9.  However, there's a catch!
When I encode a video in WMV9 using After Effects the results are great and, when comparing frame by frame with my source video, the results match up pretty much perfectly.  But, when I encode using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 the WMV9 generated seems to fall behind the source video between keyframes... hence why I'd like to have more insight into how After Effects configures the encoder.  I'm not too familiar with all this which probably doesn't help.
In both cases I make sure to encode in 30fps, using the main profile, constant bitrate, but then there's a load of extra options in Expression Encoder not available in After Effects.
Alternatively, if anyone knows of a way to encode a wmv9 using a command line utility (other than the Expression Encoder SDK) please let me know.
    Thanks!

Yeah, unfortunately I do.  The source is generated from a series of images and exported at 30 fps.  I did have a problem earlier where one of my clips was exported at 30.01 and I saw it become offsync over time.  Now, when I import all the clips in After Effects to compare them they are all listed as 30fps.

  • After Effects CS6 opening with a lot of alarms related to effects redundancies with other programs

After intalling Premiere pro CS6 and After effects CS6, I installed add-ons for these programs (newblue, boris, prodad...). When I open After Effects it gives me 38 cases of effects (Detail Enhancer, noise Reducer...) redundant in other programs, telling me to get rid of them.
When I check these effects in my programs, they are mainly .aex files, located in Premiere Pro CS6, Adobe Common Plug-ins, NewBlue Video effects collections 1 to 6. Some of them also exist in avid /pinnacle studio programs (my former video tools I still use to close previous video projects) before concentrating in Adobe CS6 suite. I don't know what to remove in a safe way. Premiere pro CS6 doesn't worry about redundancies ! Only After Effects...

Where, exactly, are the redundant files?
Did you use the installers for these plug-ins or install them manually?

  • After Effects CS6 going nuts!

I have After Effects CS6, no updates or add ons. It has worked fine all along, but then today it went nuts. The problems: I was making a deep space scene, placing tow planets in the scene and moving them about. Usually I make a planet by importing a texture, then using CC Sphere to make it round, as most people do. Well, this worked fine. Then I usually use scale and size with key frames to move it about. Today however, I couldn't get the 'planet' to move, and when I tried to play it back, it gave me about 1 second of very quickly changing textures (wow, didn't understand that) and the 'planet' dissappeared. When I move the cursor back to the start, it reappears. Then I noticed that the actual 'track' on the timeline is tiny, no where near as long as the composition settings.
As this has worked well for a while, I have not added computer info, which I have not changed since installing AF.
I figured it was a fluke, as I've done this before, but now I can't get it to work at all. So what to do? I can't find anything in the Preferences that look wrong. Should I try reinstalling?? Any advice?  Thanks!!

Yea, guess you are right. Just doesn't seem to be system related. It's a PC, Asus P5N7A motherboard with an Intel Core2 Quad, with 3 gigs of memory (yea, I know I need more memory), Windows 7 build 7601. It will slow down now and then, but has always worked well with Adobe stuff.  All my textures are simple .jpg files (which all worked in the past).
Indeed, I have just now discovered that AE no longer works right with any still image!  Here's a shot of my screen when it stops working correctly. [I get the feeling there is something I'm forgetting to do].
You may also notice that the timeline appears to be marked in....frames?? I don't remember that either!
