Where o Where is Buegie? Your help is requested!

I've seen you post about the organization of Itunes, and if you have a moment to help me understand, that'd be great.
As a test, I put a CD in my computer, selected a song, and then chose import. When Itunes was done, it had created a file folder and album folder under My Music/Itunes/Itunes Music and then placed the song in there. Is this the way it happens automatically even if the top two boxes under Preferences, General, Advanced aren't checked? Does this create a duplicate of all the songs under the My Music folder or just "arrange" them?
Thank you!!

Amy,
Sorry for the delayed response - just saw your post.
iTunes will import a CD into the folder you specify in the 'Preferences'.
It will also use (what I believe) its default organizational structure of 'Artist\Album\Song'. This is independent of the checking or un-checking of the two boxes you mention. Some testing by me with the boxes checked, then unchecked appear to confirm this.
When importing a new CD, it will only create one copy of the music files on the PC and only one song reference within iTunes for each song. No duplicate copies should be made.
The second box with the 'copy' selection applies when one is 'Adding' music to the Library, not 'Importing' a CD. For instance, folks who have a self-designed music file structure on their PCs, and do not want to let iTunes re-arrange this structure would leave the 'organized' box unchecked, and the 'copy' box unchecked. There is no need for iTunes to move the files and certainly no need to re-copy the files.
Other folks have music stored in another structure (possibly for another music player) and also want iTunes to manage the music. They could have iTunes copy that music into its own structure when 'Adding' the music. It would create duplicate music files on the PC across different folders.
In my case, I run a Dual Library: Lossless files on my ExHD, and their Lossy counterparts on my internal Laptop HD. Occasionally, I will 'Refresh' the Library: deleting the references and re-Adding them. At that point, I have a Laptop destination for my iTunes music folder, but I do not need iTunes copying the ExHD's files over to the Laptop - just adding the references to the Library. I do not need the 'organize' box checked as the files/folders are already organized correctly.
I always leave the 'copy' box unchecked - unless I am 'Adding' some 'free MP3s' from Amazon or other sources. I usually place them initially in a separate folder, test them out and add the ones I like into iTunes. At that point, I need to check both the 'copy' box and the 'organize' box to get the files into iTunes correctly.
I hope I made some sense out of this, rather than confused you more. Post back with more questions if you have them.

  • XP, Vista, where, what, how, how much--your help appreciated......

New Mac Book Pro owner here. I will be starting a course of study in a month that requires Windows, to run its program. I left the Windows platform three years ago and have been very happy without it. However, now that it's a requirement, I have some questions.
    1) After reading here on this forum a lot lately, I've decided to go with XP Pro with SP2 or SP3. Is there a difference that would matter between the sp2 and sp3?
    2) 32 or 64-bit? I don't know enough to really know what this means, much less make a wise choice. Does it matter? My machine has 4 Gb Ram.
    3) After installing Windows using Bootcamp, do I need to install its own browser (Firefox) on that partition? Or will it access the one I have? I know these questions must sound so stupid, but I don't know anything about this.
    4) With windows installed using bootcamp, and let's say I'm at that course working online with Windows, will i be able to do anything, just as if it's a PC? Will I be able to work on things, create a document? Will I need additional programs for this?
    5) Will I install a virus protection to the Windows part of the disk?
    Thanks everybody.

Applications are not "cross platform" meaning you can't run Windows programs outside Windows, and likewise, you can't run OS X programs except inside OS X.
Side by side or inside OS X means you don't need to reboot to work in the other OS. CAD and graphic or cpu intensive programs aren't good candidates for virtual OS.
Personally, I would have bought a PC for Windows. There isn't much OS X and Vista don't both do well today, and a Core i7 based system is a powerful platform (but not in laptop yet).
Mac OS X users find David Pogue's books a great reference manual and helpful. My brother switched over and appreciated it a lot. He also writes books on other topics.

    Hi,
Where can I purchase the serial number for Iworks, or purchase and download Pages for OSX 4.11?
Thanks so much in advance for your help!
    Andrea

You can search Google, eBay, Amazon, and Craigslist to find an old version of iWork for a PPC Mac. Probably needs to be iWork 6 or earlier.

  • Where do I continue; I have a '07 Macbook Pro, and would truly appreciate your help as I freshly install my osx beginning with my original 10.4

Where do I continue; I have a '07 Macbook Pro, and would truly appreciate your help as I have freshly installed my osx beginning with my original 10.4
    Thank you
    PS
I should mention; for reasons unknown to me, I no longer have use of my disk drive since reinstalling 10.4.

You can use software update to install the latest version of Tiger.  If you connect an external DVD drive you can install an upgrade to Snow Leopard.  The disk is available at the Apple online store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Further upgrades are dependent upon the EXACT model of your MBP.
    Ciao.

Hi. I am reinstalling Macbook Pro OS X from the "question mark icon". During process, there is a question "select the disk where to install Mac OS X" but there is no option/selection in the box. I really need your help guys. I need it badly. :'(

If you got the question mark and you do not see any partition to install OS X to, it is not good.
Close the OS X installer by pressing the red button at the top left corner of the Install OS X window, and open Disk Utility. Then, look at the left sidebar and tell me if you see your hard drive. You should see something like this:
Do not worry if you do not see Macintosh HD or if the option with an arrow shows a different name. This is normal.
If you see it, choose it, go to the Erase tab and erase the drive. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. You will lose everything if you do not have a backup.
If you do not see the drive, it is damaged and it has to be replaced. You can replace the hard drive of a MacBook Pro without voiding the warranty, and any 2'5" SATA hard drive is valid. If you are not an experienced user or you do not want to go inside the MacBook, take it to an Apple Store or reseller.

  • Where can I find detailed, systematic HELP for advanced topics relating to Thunderbird?

In moving from XP to Windows 7, I opted for Thunderbird as email client in order to bypass Microsoft's hyper-intrusive Windows Live Mail (I used Outlook Express for years).
I have a very complicated email structure, and it's taken me weeks (seriously) to learn how to replicate it in TBird. Now I'm trying to customize TBird further, but none of the TBird articles/forum Q&A's/Google searches address my questions.
There is no live tech support for TBird, and I'm just about ready to leave it for good. However -- one last effort: where can I find detailed, systematic HELP for advanced topics relating to Thunderbird?
    Thanks.

I am no expert, but I don't know of any authoritative reference as to what elements of HTML and CSS are supported in Thunderbird. However, as I believe you appreciate, it's more than just what Thunderbird supports, but one must also think about what is likely to work in other email clients. Keep it simple. Avoid ancient deprecated tags that other email clients may not support, and for similar reasons, avoid cutting edge technology. Remember that recipients using tablets or smartphones won't appreciate large fancy email documents.
The only thing ''guaranteed'' to work in email is plain text. ;-)
If you haven't already discovered it, the Stationery add-on is designed specifically to support OE stationery in Thunderbird. Your existing stationery may "just work" in this add-on. It makes switching between various stationery templates much easier, but I'm not confident that it will affect interpretation of your CSS or HTML coding.
Your code is at least clean and minimal. Most times my involvement with troublesome templates and signatures centres on the horrible bloat and mso custom code generated by Word or Outlook.
Having said that, you and I are mortal enemies, as I don't have much patience with what you aspire to achieve. I specifically don't like background images, nor being obliged to suffer other folks' bizarre choice of typefaces and colours (but your simple 12pt black Tahoma is quite inoffensive. ;-) ) I'm of an age where my tolerance and eyesight are easily offended.
Nonetheless, I'm intrigued by how to parse the tag for the background image, as it doesn't look like a legitimate pathname to a graphics file. Does the background image actually appear as required?

  • TS1559 My Wi-Fi setting is gray and I cannot do anything to it.  Anyone know where to go on here for help?

My Wi-Fi is gray where I cannot select on or off when I go into settings; therefore, i cannot do anything wirelessly. Does anyone know where to go on here for help or have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate it.

Generally an indication of a hardware failure. Try restoring your phone as a new device in iTunes. Eject when finished...don't sync any content to the phone. WiFi still grayed out? If so, most likely a hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple store to confirm.

  • Hi, how do I manage storage? Disk Utility says "other" is taking up most of my storage but I don't know where to find "other".  Please help!

Hi, how do I manage storage? Disk Utility says “other” is taking up most of my storage but I don’t know where to find “other".  Please help!

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper 2>&-
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective 2>&-
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.
