Where on Macintosh HD are scratch files run?

Hello Everyone
Can someone please tell me where exactly on Macintosh HD would a user's Photoshop CS 5 scratch file be run from. Photoshop preferences only "say" Macintosh HD.
Thanks.

You can change it to another hard drive if you have one.
And your talking about PowerMac and 10.5.8, right?

  • DNG files in old catalogs, where the same images are RAW files

    Hello,
    I use multiple catalogs in Lightroom, where some of the images are referenced in more than one catalog. Now I converted the RAW (in my case NEF) files to DNGs. This worked fine in the catalog I did this. But how do I tell Lightroom to use the DNG instead of the NEF file in other catalogs (still displaying "...NEF not found").
    Regards,
    Knut

    You should have used Library > Convert Photos to DNG. That removes the NEF from the catalogue, but not from the hard drive, and puts the DNG in its place.
    You are also making life hard for yourself by fragmenting the control of your picture collection across multiple catalogues. Each catalogue is totally independent and as you have images referenced in more than one, here you're going to have to fix the problem in each catalogue. Get everything into one catalogue, and subdivide your pictures into subjects or your other themes by using metadata such as keywords, and smart and dumb collections.

  • Are  JSP files run on apache 1.3.12 web server....?

    Hi,
    I am having Apache Jserv 1.3.12 running on my Server.Iam using JDK1.3 version,Do i need to have tomcat on my client Pc to run my JSP files?
    Any help will be appreciated...
    Regards
    Siva

    you must have servlet container(Tomcat or JRun) to run servlets and JSP's, which acts as add on to Apache server.
    Please go through the documentation of tomcat, or follow books in JSP
    in many of them they explain in detail.
    All the best!

  • Where on hard drive are mp3 files saved?

    My computer has crashed and I am trying to rescue my iPod files off of the hard drive. Please tell me where I can find these files. I am looking in Program Files but I don't see anything that looks like mp3s in the iTunes or iPod folders. Help!
    It is also my understanding that, once my computer is fixed, I cannot just plug in my iPod and it will update iTunes back to the way it was before. Is this correct?

    c:\documents and settings\%userName%\my documents\itunes...
    unless you added local accounts, the %userName% will either be owner or administrator.

    edit: and it depends on how it was "fixed." if only the os was "repaired" but left intact, then it may be that easy. if it was reformatted and completely reinstalled, or the hard drive replaced, then no.

  • Where are my files after running Migration Assistant?

    I ran Migration Assistant using a Time Machine back up as I bought a new MacBook Pro that could hold all my files that I previously had on an iMac and another MacBook Pro. I first ran Migration Assistant and got all my files, preferences etc. on the new MBP no problem, but then after trying to combine the files from the iMac using a Time Machine back up as well, I don't see any of the files from my iMac available anywhere. However, all the space is filled up. Where are my files? Am I doing it wrong?

    Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->

    > I repair permissions using the Tiger disc upgrade.
    One thing to note...  When running Repair Disk Permissions, it is best to run it while started up normally, from your normal startup disk, not from a Mac OS X installation disc.  The only time you should run it while started up from an installation disc is if some problem is preventing you from starting up normally. OTOH, Repair Disk can only be used when starting up from a different disk (such as an installation disc).
    So, I would start up normally, run Disk Utility, and use Repair Disk Permissions on your normal startup disk.
    NOTE:  Repair Disk Permissions often gives alerts messages that can be ignored.  They are more "informational," not serious errors.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
    You should still run it periodically.  When you run it, what needs to be repaired has been repaired; consider the rest of it an FYI.  I've never experience a problem, where a Repair Disk Permissions message actually caused a problem.  But, if you ever get an error while running Repair Disk (or Verify Disk), that is usually a serious problem.

  • Where are the files for the Backups that show up in About This Mac - Storage?

    Where are the files for the Backups that show up in About This Mac - Storage?
    My new Macbook Pro 13 retina has 1TB flash drive. But despite my TimeMachine being in a TimeCapsule my Macintosh HD shows 277 Gb of space has Backups. What is this for? How can I delete it?

    OS X Lion and newer Mac OS X versions create local snapshots in portable Macs if Time Machine is enabled. See > http://pondini.org/TM/30.html
    You don't have to worry about. They are stored in a kind of volume named "MobileBackups", but they appear as stored in your hard drive. To delete them, open System Preferences > Time Machine, and turn off Time Machine. Then, turn it on. However, you don't need to delete them, as they will be deleted when your hard drive gets full

  • SYSLOGD gone wild - where are the files?

    Hey all,
    Yesterday I had 15GB of free HD yesterday, it told me today that I was down to 100MB.
    Confused - because I haven't added any files, I check the activity monitor and found that SYSLOGD was running, and using an absurd amount of processor and disc access.
    I searched on it, and it seems to relate to Time Machine, which I'm not using.
    SO... I rebooted, and now it's not running any more.  BUT - the hard disc space is still gone, and I don't know where the files are that I need to delete to free it up.
    I've loaded a disc scanning utility to try to find where a new 15GB file might be hiding, but I'm thinking it's in the hidden area of the disc.
    QUESTION 1 : Where are the files SYSLOGD wrote and how can I delete them?
    QUESTION 2:  What made it run, and how can I keep it from happening again?
    Thanks!

    If you're looking for trash sounds, those are located in /System/Library/Components/CoreAudio.component/Contents/Resources/SystemSounds/ . If you're wanting to change the put stuff in trash and empty trash sounds, then follow these steps.
    Convert your sounds to aif, save them in some convenient location.
    Replace the two sound files *"move to trash"* and *"drag to trash"* inside the Finder and Dock folders, respectively, inside the SystemSounds folder, with the one you want for putting things in the trash and the *"empty trash*" one inside the Finder folder with the new one for emptying the trash.
    Ensure that you rename the new ones the same as the originals. (I usually copy the originals and add a .bak suffix so I can restore the sounds to their original condition.)
    OPTION-click the Finder's Dock icon and select Relaunch.
    Do note that if you'll have to authenticate to copy, rename, and replace these files. I use the Terminal with the sudo command to affect the changes.

  • Scratch files in the 'run directory'

    Hi!
    This is probably a set-up problem (in which case I would be very interested to know what I should tweak...), but it seems to me that scratch files appear in the working directory (and would not always be cleaned-up in some not easily reproducible crashes). Is it possible to put them out of sight? ($TMPDIR come to mind for example).
    Thanks!

    PS: this happens with 'Sun Fortran 95 8.3 Linux_i386 Build35_2 2006/12/04'
    PPS: a small example:
          PROGRAM Scratch
          IMPLICIT NONE
          CALL List_Tmp
          OPEN ( UNIT = 666, FORM = "FORMATTED", STATUS = "SCRATCH",       &
         &                                            ACTION = "READWRITE" )
          WRITE ( UNIT = 666, FMT = "(A)" ) "Hello world!"
          CALL List_Tmp
          CALL Cat_Tmp
          CLOSE ( UNIT = 666 )
          CALL List_Tmp
          CONTAINS
          SUBROUTINE List_Tmp
          CALL SYSTEM ( "ls -ltr tmp.F_*" )
          END SUBROUTINE List_Tmp
          SUBROUTINE Cat_Tmp
          CALL SYSTEM ( "cat tmp.F_*" )
          END SUBROUTINE Cat_Tmp
          END PROGRAM Scratch
    !(this is a bit contrived, but shows my point).
    with 'f95 -o Test Check_Scratch.f90 ; ./Test' shows that during run time a "tmp.F_*" file is created (it gets nicely cleaned-up at the end in this case, though).

    ($TMPDIR come to mind for example).
    I fixed the bug yesterday. With my new version of the
    Fortran run-time libraries, the environment variable
    TMPDIR can be used to specify the directory in which
    scratch files are to be created. It was harder than I
    thought it would be to produce code that worked on
    both Solaris and Linux. The Solaris code depended
    on a function that did not work the same way in Linux.
    Avoiding use of that function required rethinking the
    way the names of the scratch files are generated.

  • When I select files to archive, they move from my file folder, but then I go to the archive folder and it says Empty? Where are those files?

    When I select files to archive, they move from my file folder, but then I go to the archive folder and it says Empty? Where are those files?

    Your account names are probably different on the two Macs. If you know the UNIX command line, open a terminal window and run:
    $ id
    You should see a line that starts with something like this:
    uid=501(your_user_id_here)
    now check the owner of the folder you copied over:
    $ ls -ld Music
    drwx------+ 8 some_user_id_here  staff  272 May 14 16:08 Music
    Do the IDs match? If not, you could change the ownership. Say your id is "johnsmith"
    $ chown -R johnsmith Music
    Now try and access it with iTunes.

  • Where are jar files downloaded to with Applet?

    I have an Applet and am using archive attribute in my applet tag to specify jar files needed by the applet. eg: "archive=myclassfiles.jar, foo.jar". Assume that myclassesfiles.jar has classes needed by the Applet and Foo.jar has some text files or xml files. Assume that Applet is signed.
    My question: I am assuming that all jar files are downloaded to the client when the Applet is started. Is this correct? If so, how can I open and read Foo.jar file within the Applet? I dont know the path to that file, that is, I dont know where on the client that Jar file has been downloaded to. Would the following work:
    URL aUrl = (new File("Foo.jar")).toURL();
    String path = aUrl.toString();
    would path point to the correct location of Foo.jar?

    They are downloaded to the client, and stored in a cache. I'm not sure they are readable from within the applet, however. But there are 2 solutions, depending on what you are doing.
    1) You want to get some images or other resources from the Jar file. Then do this:
    URL url = appletClass.getClass().getResource("myimage.jpg");
    ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon(url);
    where appletClass is the applet object, and the resource ("myimage.jpg" is the relative path to the image in the Jar file.
    2) You want to muck around with the Jar (read it). Well you can't write to it that easily in an applet, as you can't access the file system without a signed applet, or you would have to POST it back to the web server via HTTP file upload. But if you want to just read it and get stuff out of it, you can always just do this:
    URL url = new URL(getDocumentBase(), "foo.jar");
    and then open the URLConnection for that URL and read the Jar in.

  • Where are real files?

    Hi guys!
    Maybe somebody knows... I drag and drop video file from the library of Aperture 3 to desktop, but these things (it is obviously not real media files) weight now, for example, about 15 kb for file of half minute HD video... And I can watch this "mini" files just with Preview.
    Where are real media files?
    And one more question. How to restore deleted files from trash?
    Thank you.

    Reading from you post I'm guessing you are using a managed library. Instead of dragging and dropping from the library to the desktop, try using File->Export Version. (there may also be an export version button in your toolbar) The real files are inside your Aperture library file in ~/Pictures. But I wouldn't recomend taking a look in there is you might screw thing up. Take a look in the manual of Aperture and on the forum here to get a feeling of the difference between managed and referenced libraries.
    Regarding your seccond question, are the files still in the trash? Then you can just drag and drop them back top where you want. (from the top of my head, you can also select 'put back' when you right-click an image in the trash). If your files are not in the trash anymore, check if they are in the system trash can. (the one in the dock) Drag them out of there and reimport them into Aperture. If they are in neither of the trashcans, then you're screwed. You'll need specialized software to recover them. Whatever you do, make sure you don't write anything to the disk the photo's where on (i.e. disconnect the disk/shut down the PC), otherwise they are lost forever.

  • HT2500 Where are the files of past mail kept in the Mail program.

    I want to do an additional backup of my email on Mail.  Where are the files of stored past mails kept?  In the same Mail.app?
    Thanks
    Gil

    Hi Gil,
    On Mail...
    First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
    (Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
    Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
