Where on my hard drive are my pictures when I import to iphoto?

After importing pics from my phone and ipad into iphoto, where are these pics on my hard drive?  I expect to see them in finder under photos?

The pics are actually stored in a buried folder in your iPhoto library. You can get to them directly without going through iPhoto by the following:
Control-click or right clich on the Photots icon in your Pictures folder. You will see an option to Show Package Contents. Click on that and you will see a list with an option for  Originals. Within that folder are numerous folders that contain your actual pictures. You will have to drill down several more layers of folders to actually find them but they are there.
The process suggested by mende1 may be simpler, though.
Hope this gives you another option.

You won't lose anything because you have a back up, right?
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Where on my hard drive are my Mac OS 10.9 Mail Client emails stored?

If you want to make your user library remain visible, go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
This will probably need to be repeated after an update.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks my Interface and hard drive are shutting down when Mac put to sleep

    Hi,
Since upgrading to Mavericks, when I put my Mac to sleep both my audio interface and my time machine hard drive are put to sleep also. Effectively making it so that when I start up my macbook again it means removing both the aforesaid from the usb outlets and putting them in again so that the mac recognises them.
This means two things. First of all all my time machine backups fail that are attempted whist the mac is put to sleep, whereas before they succesfully ran. It also means that my audio interface does'nt work and has to be re-set.
Anybody have the same kind of USB / Sleep issues?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Where in my hard drive are my "contacts"?

A recent iPhone sync somehow erased ALL emails and phone numbers from both my computer and my iPhone. I had a very up-to-date 600 person list of contacts in my address book that is necessary for my home business.
Where do I find these in my hard drive? I back up all information weekly onto my external hard drive (an Iomega HDD). Surely they are somewhere here.
Help would be so very appreciated.

Check your backups for the the following directory:
    /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
Copy the contents of that current directory to an alternate location (as a contingency backup) and then restore that directory from you main backup. Address Book and Mail should be closed when doing this. Your contacts should be restored upon re-launching Address Book.

  • My external hard drives are causing problems when i capture DV in FCP

We have external hard drives (2 different brands lacie and WD) are causing dropped frames when I capture DV in FCP. This only happens when they are connected via firewire 800. When I connect them using USB everything works great. Any ideas why this could be? We have 2 of each drive and 2 older mac pros and they both have this issue with every combination of drives I try. I've also tried reseting the ports with no luck...

Connecting your camcorder to even 1 FW drive constitutes daisy-chaining.  Even if you have two FW ports in your Mac, connecting a drive to one port and your camcorder to the other is the same as daisy-chaining as far as  your Mac is concerned.
Try capuring from your camcorder with no exernal FW drives attached.  Verify that works before trying anything else.
Also, I noticed your profile says you have a Mac Pro.  You might consider adding a FW card in order to get extra FW ports that are not on the same FW bus as the built-in FW ports.  Then you could connect your external FW drives to the card; and your camcorder to the built-in ports and it should work.

  • How do I get the pictures from my iPhoto on my external Hard Drive to show up in the already existing iPhoto on my MacBook?

I have an early 2008 MacBook. I had been using iPhoto on this MacBook until I purchased an iMac in 2011, at which time I copied my iPhoto Library from my MacBook to my iMac. Then I realized that my pictures and music were consuming the memory on my iMac, so I moved iPhoto and my iTunes LIbrary to an external Hard Drive. Now I am in a situation where I do not have access to my iMac, but will need to use my MacBook as my main computer for the next year. So, I have my iPhoto on an external hard drive and I plug it into my MacBook and see the iPhoto Library folder, but when I click on it, it opens up the old iPhoto that is still existing on my MacBook and will not show any of the new pictures?! At first I thought it wasn't able to show up anything because my MacBook was running two operating systems behind what my iMac was when I was running my iPhoto Library from that computer. So, I upgraded to OS X 10.7.5 and upgraded the existing iPhoto on my MacBook to iPhoto '11 version 9.4.3. However whenever I plug in the external hard drive and click on the iPhoto Library folder to open it up, it is still just opening up the already existing iPhoto on the MacBook (with my older pictures) rather than the iPhoto on the hard drive (with my newer pictures). How can I access my pictures that are on my external hard drive?

Thank you for your advice. I followed your directions, but came up with the same results. However, I did discover that whenever I open up the iPhoto Library that is already existing on my MacBook a certain set of pictures shows up. But then when I open up the iPhoto Library from the Hard drive another set of pictures shows up. BUT not ALL of my pictures are showing up on the iPhoto Library from the hard drive. At least the last two years of pictures are not showing up?! Actually, it appears that all the pictures are there from when I started using iPhoto about 5 years ago up until around the time that I got my iMac desktop computer and started using that (2 years ago). I have noticed that more recent videos I have made are showing up in a folder on the hard drive, but will not appear when I open up iMovie?! Any ideas on how to access my pictures from the last 2 years off of the hard drive???

  • Mac Pro Won't Boot, Hard Drives Are Fine, Passes Hardware Test

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that will not boot anymore.  The hard drives are just fine.  I put them into another Mac Pro 1,1 and they started up fine and that computer is running great.  I have replaced the RAM, put in new Hard Drives, I only have a keyboard, mouse, and display plugged in to it, and it still won't boot.  What happens is this:
Boots up, shows the gray screen.  Shows Apple Logo.  Goes to Black with mouse cursor, stays at the black screen.  I can move the mouse cursor as normal.  Sometimes it turns into a color wheel, but most of the time it's a normal pointer.
I have run the hardware test several times, both quick and extended.  Everything always passes the tests.  I can boot into target disk mode and use the disks fine via firewire.  When I try to boot from a Lion USB disk, or a Snow Leopard DVD, it always does the same as above and stops at the black screen.  Basically, once it gets to the point where it loads an OS X system, it stops at the black screen as if something isn't working right.  Any thoughts?

once it gets to the point where it loads an OS X system, it stops at the black screen as if something isn't working right.
That is the point at which the graphics card starts the Mac OS X loaded graphics Driver, and it may indicate that your graphics card is broken.
Try Safe Mode (hold down Shift at Startup). It takes five minutes to check the Boot drive, then display a login screen. You need your username and password to proceed, even if you normally auto-login.
Safe Mode uses only "simple" graphics. It does not load the graphics driver.
If you need a replacement card, I recommend you skip over all the refurbished and repaired old graphics cards and install nothing older than the Apple-Firmware 5770, about US$250. It works in every model Mac Pro, and drivers are in 10.6.5 and later.

  • External hard drives are now in my dock. How to remove forever?

For some reason, my four external hard drives and internal hard drive are now appearing in my dock. They cannot be dragged out (smoke poof), I can QUIT them and they are removed from the dock and remain on the desktop where they ought to be. But when the iMac is restarted, back to the dock they all go.
I was cleaning my mouse and I think this is the end result, beyong a clean mouse.
    Any solutions to this situation?
    Cheers.

  • External Hard Drive Not Displaying Pictures

So I recently backed up all my pictures from my MBP to my Western Digital My Passport 1 TB external hard drive to free up some space from my MBP. Before ejecting the hard drive, I had made sure that the files were all transferred completely so that no problems should arise later. I then proceeded to delete all the pictures off of my MBP. When I went to open the hard drive today, my pictures are nowhere to be found, but when looking at the memory on the hard drive, the amount being used is exactly the amount of space that the pictures had taken up. I also tried using EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, which shows the picture folder on the hard drive, with all the pictures, but they cant be transferred back. So my question is, how can I get access to these pictures. I know they're on the hard drive, and i've already tried getting them back by showing the hidden folders.

    Version 10.9.2

    Welcome to AD!
When you moved your "library" to the exHD, exactly what got moved? There are 2 parts to an itunes library:
    1. The actual library content of music files, video, podcasts, books, etc
    2. The library database with ratings, play counts, and those play lists you are missing
The database is a file name iTunesLibrary.itl and I suspect the version you want is back on the main PC's C: drive.
The default in Vista/W7 is here
    C:\Users\Katrina\Documents\My Music\iTunes
Changing that preference only affects FUTURE additions to a library, by the way.

  • Mac Book Pro Retina with Mt Lion.  Where is the Hard Drive?

Mac Book Pro Retina with Mt Lion.  Where is the Hard Drive?

Technically there is no "hard drive" in the Retina MacBook Pro, as all models come with "flash" storage which isnt a "hard disk drive." So if you are wondering why you are not hearing classic hard drive chatter and spin-up sounds then this is the reason.
Other than that, logically the devices are treated the same, so as Kappy mentions you just have to enable it on your desktop or go to your computer name in the Finder sidebar under "Devices" or otherwise go to the top level of the system's folder structure to reveal any mounted volumes, including the internal drive.

  • I can not get the new updates because my start disc and hard drive are full, I need 1.98 GB.

I can not get the new updates because my start disc and hard drive are full, I need 1.98 GB.

Some folks recommend OmniDiskSweaper to allow you to review your stuff to find possible candidates to throw away.
Even if you throw away some stuff and your desired "1.98GB", then what?  If that's the number you need for the update, you'll just use most or all of the reclaimed space with the update and you are right back to where you started.
You don't specify what kind of machine you got but presumably it's a mac pro since you posted in the Mac Pro community.  In which case just get yourself another drive or two and move stuff around to free up your boot drive.
[Perhaps you should hurry too since I expect hdd prices might be going up due to possible impending hdd shortages.]
Finally, if some of those updates are major system updates you want extra drives for backups because I always recommend you never do major updates to your system without backups to that system.
