Where's a 64-bit Firefox?

This question was probably asked before, but I guess it's important to keep asking so that the developers will realize that this is actually important.
I'm running a 64-bit Windows 7 for a few years now. I'm not sure if they even make 32-bit processors anymore. Any new PC you see advertised comes with Windows 8 64-bit. Both versions of Windows come with 64-bit IE. To be honest, the 32-bit IE is not only included, but is also default, but this is for the sake of backward compatibility. Opera is available in 64 bit, and so is Firefox, but only for Linux and Mac OS.
So where's the 64-bit Firefox for Windows? For years we've been hearing about plugins. Now, both Flash and Java are available in 64-bit. 64-bit Nightly works perfectly, I run it for years without any problem. Third-party builds also exist and work fine. So why not make an effort and promote the 64-bit Nightly higher up the production chain?
Sometimes we hear about "other priorities". But let's be honest here - what other priorities? I'm not sure why would I care about HTML5 - YouTube already works, and I don't see why should I care if it's in Flash or HTML5. Same about most other "cutting edge" features. I don't think I notice them. But I do notice that I have to run a 32-bit application on a 64-bit machine. Some people ask - what's the advantage of using 64-bit Firefox? I ask, why should I run a 32-bit application on a 64-bit machine? Just because it works? That's just not good enough.
So, enough with the excuses, just do it! That's what people are waiting for, not the "Firefox OS" (now why would I buy anything from a "proudly non-profit" company?)!

unifex_, <br />Sorry to disappoint. It may be an interesting topic but not one to discuss here!

  • Where can i find 64 bit Firefox v4 for Windows 7?

Where do I download 64-bit Firefox v4 for Windows 7? I see Google search results about nightlies and v4 RC but I am interested in the current official 64-bit release for use with Win7 running on my iMac (dual core) via Fusion virtual machine.
    Thanks

Currently the release versions of Firefox for Windows are 32-bit and they work on 64-bit Windows. Mozilla are developing a 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows but it has not yet been released.

  • When will Firefox offer a 64-bit version ? I use my 32-bit Firefox, but keep my 64-bit Waterfox and Pale Moon ready, when Firefox crashes on Windows 8.

I am a Firefox Veteran. Been around since the NCSA web browser days and used the first Firefox web browsers. I have never liked or trusted Microsoft Windows, so I've never used Internet Explorer. I had tweaked Windoze Blue Screen Of Death software from the Windows 3.0 days and did minor maintenance on the "Pizza Boxes" to keep them alive until I or my duty station could afford a newer one. Firefox has always performed for me working for "Uncle Sam" or at home. I keep Firefox and the versions: Sea Monkey, Aurora, Nightly on my laptop because I like Firefox and I like to switch from one browser to the other sometimes -- plus, in a Windows crash, I have a backup browser. Windows always "Crashes"; somethings never change. My 32-bit Firefox doesn't seem as reliable on my 64-bit 'Windoze' 8 as it was on Windows 7. My hope is that some of the Firefox Gurus have a 64-bit Firefox up on blocks in the shed out back ready to rock and roll or at least release as experimental to be played with and tested. Thanks guys -- Keep up the good work. Sam

Someday. This is a question asked multiple times but the answer is always the same, there is no real benefit to moving to 64 bit Firefox, and the amount of work required to do something with no benefit makes this a low priority. Eventually it will happen, but just because it uses 64bit doesn't magically make things better.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit/firefox browser -which flash?

Hi, Can you please tell me what version of flash to install on Windows Vista 64 bit/ firefox browser?..Thanks!

Well, Firefox doesn't make a 64-bit version, so it won't use any 64-bit plugins, as far as I know.
Likewise, in IE10 (in Win7 or 8... MS blackmail encouraging you to update), unless you've checked Enable Protected Mode on the Security tab, AND have checked Enable Enhanced Protected Mode way down in the Security section on the Advanced tab (both tabs are in Internet Options), even if you explicitly run the 64-bit iexplore.exe file located in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ subdir, it actually loads a 32-bit tab in the 64-bit window, and any page loaded in that 32-bit tab will use 32-bit plugins and add-ons.  To force it to load 64-bit tabs in the 64-bit window (and ergo use 64-bit plugins and add-ons, such as the 64-bit ActiveX version of FlashPlayer, if available), both of those Protected Mode options must be checked.
You can confirm that by looking in Task Manager on the Processes tab... without those Protected Mode options checked, you'll see an instance of iexplore.exe (for each 64-bit window) and an instance of iexplore.exe *32 (32-bit) for each tab open; WITH those Protected Mode options checked (then fully close all instances of Internet Explorer - just reboot to make sure), all you'll see is an instance of iexplore.exe for each 64-bit window, plus an instance of iexplore.exe for each tab open... and in that case you shouldn't see *any* instances of iexplore.exe *32 on the Processes tab.

  • What/Where is the 32-bit version of Windows System Image Manager?

I'm running into the problem described as follows in the WAIK documentation:  "Windows SIM fails to create a catalog for a 32-bit Windows image from a 64-bit version of Windows SIM. To workaround this issue, use the 32-bit version of Windows SIM to
create catalogs for your Windows images."
Question: Where is the 32-bit version of Windows SIM? I can only find a single download for "The Windows® Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows® 7"
Or are the 32-bit tools included in that version? If so, how do I use those instead?

    Hi,
The issue should occurs when you install the WAIK on a 64bit Windows 7 machine.
You need install WAIK on a 32bit machine.
Different binary versions of Windows SIM cannot create catalog files for some Windows images of different architecture types. We recommend using the
32-bit version of Windows SIM to create catalog files because this version can create catalogs for all Windows image architecture types. The following list describes the Windows SIM architecture types and catalogs that can be created for each Windows
    image architecture type.
    x86 Image Manager. Can
create catalogs for x86, x64, and Itanium-based Windows images.
    x64 Image Manager. Can
create catalogs only for x64 Windows images.
    Itanium-based Image Manager.
Can create catalogs only for Itanium-based Windows images.

  • When will get 64-bit PDF converter for 64-bit Firefox variants (Cyberfox, Waterfox, etc.)

I use 64-bit Firefox variants (Cyberfox, Waterfox, etc.), and am frustrated that the PDF Converter addin with Acrobat Pro X and XI does not yet work with them.  I understand that a 64-bit DLL is needed for the add-in to work.  Inasmuch as the PDF converter works with 64-bit IE-9 and IE-10 and Office2007/2010, I am at a loss to understand why a 64-bit PDF converter add-in for Firefox 64-bit variants is not available.  WHEN?
    Thank you.

Can I run 32 bit Firefox on my Windows 7, 64 bit and how do I do that? Flash player loads videos slowly. You tube videos are mostly loading slowly or hanging up. It seems to have happened after the last Firefox update.

According to website I have Flash Player installed but I cannot run a program (BBC iPlayer DeskTop) that requires 64 Bit Flash player Any ideas?
Does that program require the Flash Player ActiveX Control, or the plugin?  If you only have the ActiveX Control (for Internet Explorer) installed, then you may also need the plugin (for other browsers).  Get it from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

I have exactly the same settings in Options (in both computers)
for history, these 2 add-ons and all other stuff in Options. The only difference is that on 1 pc sessions can be saved and closed tabs can be reopened, on other main pc they stopped to work. + no any other add-on that does similar things works on this pc.
It is also interesting that I can reopen closed visited sites from History Panel, but not by pressing the Button. For now I only manually bookmark links to a temporary folder.
Recently (some 2 month ago) I pressed x and Firefox closed all tabs without saving them without displaying save & quit pop up.
    so I changed 4 settings in about.config
    browser.tabs.warn on close true
    browser.warn on quit true
    browser.warn on restart true
    browser.show.quit warning true
but the problem with sessions appeared only 1 week ago.
So I guess the problem is not with the History settings or other settings. Seems that something responsible for button or for storing info about tabs/sessions got corrupted. :(

  • Embedded Google search on our website is not showing results. Windows 8, 64 bit, Firefox 30

We have Google Search embedded in our website. It was brought to my attention by one of our employees that Firefox is not showing the results of the search after the search button is clicked. The issue seems to be only confined to Firefox. Tested the issue on Internet Explorer 10 and Google Chrome and both are working as expected, showing the results on our results page.
I am using Windows 8, 64 bit, Firefox 30. The user having the issue is on Windows 7, 64 bit.
I used the Web console and there were an error message of
'TypeError: google.search.Search.apiary5337 is not a function'.
I am not sure this is the root of the issue or not, but why would this work in Chrome and Internet Explorer and not in Firefox?
If you need to check it, out website is http://www.dmns.org/ . The search box it on the top right of the page. You will see that the page redirects to our '/results?q=searchterm'. We are a science institution so if you type "science" in the search box, you will get redirected to the '/results' page with the query string of 'science' for the search term. But in my case the search results below are blank. If you do the same search if Chrome or IE the results show fine.
Oh, I do not have any add on installed on Firefox.
Any suggestions or a fix would be great.
    Thank you.

    Problem SOLVED.
This is probably still a bug in Firefox. Our Google Search <script> that call the Javascript service from Google was within the Body tag. I moved the Script tag to the head and now it seems to work as expected. In the new Firefox, are <script> tags not allowed within the Body element?

Nope - you need the 32bit Java to go with the 32bit Firefox if you want Java to run

  • How do I replace 32-bit Firefox 3.6 with a 64-bit "current version"?

Since my computer is a 64-bit system, I want to replace as much 32-bit software with 64-bit compilations and, as much as I can, abandon executables that can't be replaced.
Assuming that Mozilla has released a 64-bit compilation of Firefox, how do I identify it and obtain it?
"Firefox Setup 8.0.1.exe" doesn't tell me whether it installs 32-bit or 64-bit instead. The automagic Firefox Update sometimes wants to replace the 32-bit version 3.6 with a 32-bit "current version" that is not an actual update to 3.6.
One reason that I have continued running version 3.6 is that there is no compelling reason to replace an installed 32-bit application with some "upgrade" of the same 32-bit application on this computer. In fact, if Mozilla doesn't get off the dime and release a 64-bit compilation which it is willing to maintain, I will make the move the Chrome.

At this point in development it looks like the earliest that Mozilla will have officially supported 64-bit Firefox releases (for Windows) will be Firefox 12.0.
There is still a fair bit of work yet to do to get stable win 64-bit Firefox releases. If it was so easy, then there would have been 64-bit builds for Windows as early as Firefox 4.0. It was targeted for Firefox 8.0 originally (at end of June) then probably at 10.0 (mid August) and now they hope to get it done for 12.0.

  • 32 bit Firefox Segmentation fault on 64 bit host

    Hi,
    I'm running CentOS 5.2 x86_64 (64 bit). I've done may
installs and got flash working using a 32bit firefox.
This is a newly installed host and I have a 32 bit firefox
installed yet flash 10 always causes a segmentation fault when I
access a web page that has flash content.
    strace on firefox shows:
    write(2, "/usr/lib/firefox-3.0.4/run-mozil"...,
    97/usr/lib/firefox-3.0.4/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 6278
    Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
I can't see the problem. As I said previously, I've had
firefox and flash (32bit) working perfectly happliy on 64 bit
before but it is now broken.
    Any with any clues?
    Thanks in advance.

Pl post details of exact OS, database and client versions.
Yes, you can install 32-bit client software, as long as you use a separate ORACLE_BASE and ORACLE_HOME to do so.
