Where's all my contacts gone?

Just installed the latest updater - restarted and all my contact have gone!
So I tried syncing with the .mac server and only 9 items are available on there of a possible 358 entries - what's happened.?
I have another machine which has it's full number of contacts - do I dare try to re-sync that address book with the .mac server or am I at risk of loosing all those contacts as well?
Any clues or suggestions please...
Regards Richard

Do you use Backup? If you do, use Backup to do just that with the information on your other machine.
Once the contacts are safely backed-up, sync your contacts with .Mac, however do not merge them. Have your machine completely replace your contacts online.
Once done try re-syncing the first machine. Now do the reverse of the first and have .Mac replace the contact data on your Mac. Do not merge. Now see if you have all your contacts on your Mac.
If something goes wrong you will always have the contacts backed-up.

As of iTunes 11.1 and iOS7, podcast files will no longer play in the Music app on the iPhone (this is very annoying, but that's the way it is).
The two easiest options are probably:
What Apple wants you to do: download and install their free Podcasts app onto your iOS device. In theory your podcasts, including the BBC news one, should sync onto the Podcasts app. This is supposed to "Just work", and if it just works for you, well, congratulations, but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case for most posters in this forum.
What I'm leaning towards: for all podcasts in iTunes, Get Info, and change them from "Media Kind = Podcasts" to "Media Kind = Audiobook". That will allow them to sync to the Music app. Then you'll have to arrange smart playlists or whatever to sync those (ex-)"podcasts" to your Music app.

  • Help! Where has all my storage gone? iPhone 4

    Hi,
Ive recently had a replacement Iphone for the one that I had lost. My old phone had over 900 songs on it and about 70 apps and i still had around a gb free. Since ive had my new phone ive backed it up from Icloud and lost a lot of space. I only have 279 songs on it and 53 apps and i have no space left. Im confused. I have an 8gb Iphone 4 which runs version 5.1.1. Where has all my storage gone and how do i get it back.

You should have 13 GB available after the iOS and the Apple Apps ...The rest is yours to fill.  If you connect to iTunes you will see a graphical representation of how your iPhone's storage is currently consumed.  Also you could Reset the phone and check the available space again. Hold Sleep / Wake button down and the Home key at the same time until the Apple logo appears, then release the buttons and wait until the Reset brings you back to the lock-screen.

  • All ichat contacts gone

    HI.
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard. When I today, for the first time, open up ichat all my contacts are gone. Last time I used ichat was on Leopard. It then worked fine (with all my contacts there).
    Ideas anyone?

    Hi,
Would´nt mobileme sync back my contacts?
    Not exactly.
If you you backed up your Address book and every Buddy was listed in the Address Book then yes you would have all the Screen Names on your computer..
In reality all your Buddies are in your Buddy List held at the AIM servers if you use AIM, @mac.com or @me.com names.
It is the iChat Software that links this to the Address Book Entries to give Buddies their "Real Names"
If you have a Screen Name your Buddy list (at least the Screen Names only) are then available on any computer or any app that can login to the AIM Servers.
The same applies to any Jabber or GoogleTalk ID you were using with their relevant servers
I would still try the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist deletion.

  • Where's all my swap gone?

    Solaris 9 update 6 (04/04)
    # swap -s
    total: 22181392k bytes allocated + 12491024k reserved = 34672416k used, 3779712k
    available
    or, to use RMC's interpretation:
    total: 22181392k bytes allocated + 12491024k unallocated = 34672416k reserved, 3779712k
    available
So of ~38Gb of virtual swap, ~35Gb is reserved. Where's it all going? If I run 'pmem -S' on every process running on the box, and add up the swap reservation column, I can account for about 10Gb. Most of this is Oracle DISM segments; where's the rest going?
Is 'pmap -S' output accurate, or am I just wasting my time here?
    Thanks

Try going to file-devices-restore from backup, if you dont have a backup then you may redownload past purchases (movies, music, apps, etc) from their respective stores by visiting "purchased" section.

  • Why are all my contacts gone

my sister backed up her phone in icloud and now all my contacts are changed to hers. how do i get all my contacts back?

Same thing happened to me too!!  Do you guys have a solution to the problem? Is there a way to "revert" the sync to a previous date?  When setting up my daughter's new iPhone 5, I used my iCloud account.  I forgot to change it later, and when she backed up her contacts on iCloud, it replaced all of mine with hers.    Apple won't help me because my complimentary support ended 90 days ago...
If someone has a solution, I would GREATLY appreciate it.

  • Where has all my RAM gone? (Super Slow!)

I am still struggling with the same problem. My MacBook is SUPER SLOW after Snow Leopard installment.
    1. I have reinstalled - did not work
    2. I have done various disk repairs (all ok!) accept for a Warning that reads: SUID file "System/Library?CoreS....has been modified and will not be repaired.
    3. I have add an extra 1Gig RAM (now 2 Gig RAM) - with no effect. The Activity Monitor still show that I only have 7-10MB memory available, the same as when I had 1 Gig RAM. Where does all my memory go too?
    4. I have tried upgrade to 10.6.2 (The combo). As soon as I start the following error appear: SafariErrorDomainError2. (Is this my problem or Apple's problem?) So, my Mac is still not upgrade to 10.6.2....!?
    5. I did the Command Option R/P. The computer is then back to normal for only 2 minutes and then it gradually gets slower and slower and showed that I have used 1,99Gig of RAM on the Activity Monitor.
When my Mac starts up, al is well for 2 minutes and then it gets slower gradually and gradually. Sucking up all my memory. Where is my memory going too?
I am loosing money and time. The advice from South Africa Consultants was not helpful. I need to get working, and I do not very much want to return to Microsoft!

    Hi Tim.
Thank you for the advice. I did follow the list as refered to in resetting spotlight indexes. I left my computer on the whole night for the process to complete. Hopefully it did. There was nothing the next morning telling me the process is complete.
    The problem still exist.
If 'mdimport' is either not running or is consuming very little CPU then it has finished rebuilding the index. mdimport will still run from time to time to index any new files added to the computer and/or old files that have been updated.
If you check the 'mds' process, is it now consuming less real memory (e.g. a few hundred MB is normal. More than 1 GB would be abnormal.)
A funny thing is that my computer show that the root user is disable, but the programs of the root user is still running as seen on the activity monitor, it is the processes of the root user that uses all my RAM and keeping my computer slow. It is so slow I cannot work on it. I am trying to resolve this problem know for a long time and no one where able to help me, until know. I feel hopeless!
In a Unix operating system, every process must be associated with a user ID. The operating system itself is not exempt from this rule. All processes which are started by the operating system will typically run as either 'root' or one of a number of other special accounts. There are actually quite a few of these special accounts, though you will typically only see processes running under a few of them. It is not possible for a user to actually log into the Mac using one of these special accounts (they have "locked" passwords - which basically means no password would be accepted to log in via one of these special accounts. The Mac simply will not allow a user to log in. When the accounts are needed, the operating system will kick off processes & jobs running under the appropriate special user accounts.
The fact that there are lots of processes running as root is not a problem and is not the cause of your memory shortage. Everyone who runs OS X has these processes running on their machine and aren't having memory shortages as a result.
The issue in your case is that one of these processes seems to be single-handedly gobbling up lots of your RAM, and we haven't been able to determine why.
I tried to download 10.6.2 but it does not download properly. I have tried this download many times. Might this be the reason for my problem, the fact that I am running 10.6.0 and not 10.6.2? Or are there other solutions.
I am far from any city and are not able to take my Macbook to any store for assistance.
I am concerned that not only are you having issues with the 'mds' process, but also unable to update your OS.
Go into "System Preferences" -> "Accounts" and verify that where you see your own user account listed you see the word "Admin" printed just below your name (in the list of accounts on the left side of the panel.) If not, let us know.
Next (assuming you are an 'Admin'), start "Disk Utility" and ask it to "Repair Permissions" on your Macintosh HD. You should also ask it to "Verify Disk". You will get some errors on "Repair Permissions" (Apple has a list of known errors that it will generate, but it will repair any problems not on Apple's list of known issues), but "Verify Disk" should come back with no errors. If "Verify Disk" has issues, please let us know and we'll explain how to do a "Repair Disk" (you can't perform the 'repair' on the same disk you booted from).
After doing this, restart your Mac, log in, run Software Update and see if you are able to apply the updates.
If Spotlight indexed your disk while some corruption existed on it (this what the Repair Permissions is meant to correct) then we may need to rebuild it yet again.
There is a more brute-force way to fix the problem involving the "Archive Install" (a way of re-installing only the operating system files on your computer without affecting any user accounts or applications you've installed... though you will lose some settings (e.g. you'll probably have to re-define your printers.)) but you wont lose any of your data or applications. I'd prefer to see if we can't fix your problem without needing to resort to this.

  • All my contacts gone

Help - I used the 2.0 and created a new exchange push account for my work. Afterwards I noticed my regular contacts in my iphone is gone, all of them. Can I get them back????

Mine disappeared too from Contacts (the screen read No Contacts in light gray font) on an iPhone 3G. Only they still were on the phone because I could still see them through the Phone/Contacts navigation. Also, the phone reported the names when I dialed numbers that I know were in the address book. Finally, while the names were missing from Contacts, they still were visible if I selected Phone/Contacts!
Then later today, the names disappeared from Phone/Contacts as well!
Later I found them! Here's how.
Select Contacts. If no Contacts are showing (only the words "No Contacts") do the following:
    - Look at the blue bar at the top of the Contacts Address Book page.
    - Does it read "Group Name" or "All Contacts"? If it reads Group Name:
    - Select the Groups back arrow (top left).
    - Select "All Contacts" (instead of Group Name) which won't be highlighted (this may be an interface problem).
    - Back out of this screen by selecting the Home button near the bottom of the iPhone.
    - On the Home page, re-select the Contacts button.
    - Voila! Your contacts should now be visible (if this was your problem). In my case, I recall playing around with the Group Names button late Tuesday evening. I probably inadvertently left Contacts set to display Group Name instead of All Contacts. Since I had no Groups set up on this iPhone yet, none were visible on that screen and this may have caused to forget to reset the Contacts Address Book to display "All Contacts."

  • Where has "Add to Contacts Gone"

When reading or replying to an email I used to be able to right mouse click on a email address in the "From" or "To" fields and the context menu would give me an option to add that person to my Outlook Contacts.  I used to use that
all the time - a great time saver. Like a few other things in Outlook 2013 , it seems to have disappeared ??  Am I missing something or has it gone .  If it has gone why ? and please bring it back !!  :-)

if the source lists a pst name, it should be in a contacts folder in that pst file.
Go to the folder list - Ctrl+6 will open it. Do you have more than one contacts folder?
Set the TurnOnLegacyGALDialog reg key - i have a reg file at
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/use-outlooks-contacts-contact-cards/ that you can run to set it - then restart Outlook. Double click on the address in a message - do you get a contacts form (the old style, not the new cards) or a small email properties
dialog? The properties dialog means you don't have a contact for that address. When you right click and choose add to contacts, it will open the old contacts form.
On the address book, that is normal. All Outlook email account types use a mapi address book. Third parties can install other types of address books though.

  • ICloud: all my contacts gone

    Hi,
When iCloud got launched, I of course updated Lion and turned on iCloud. And now my Contacts are all gone.
OS X 10.7.2 with iCloud - no contacts
iOS 5.0 with iCloud - contacts
    iCloud.com site - contacts
iCloud storage - 80% space available
All use the same Apple ID.
Here is the investigation I've done so far ...
When I create a new contact on my iPad, it does not make it over to iCloud.com
Appointments made on my iPad make it over to my Mac, appointments made on my Mac make it over to my iPad
When I try to switch on 'Contacts' on my OS X iCloud prefpane, after a while it just unticks the box. All other boxes remain ticked.
When I try to hard-enter a new iCloud account into Address Book, it takes my information and after a while
After inspection of the system.log it seems there are a lot of permission issues and in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook I see a lot of Migration*.tbz files which coincide with me ticking the box in the iCloud panel.
Any suggestions how I can fix this?
    thanks,
    Rob

I ended up deleting the entire ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder and after this it downloaded the contacts from iCloud and has worked fine since.

  • Where's All My music gone?? Nooooo

    Hi,
Any help here will be more than appreciated.
My 30gb Ipod photo, had been playing up for a little while, by that I mean, it used to skip songs a lot and used to come up with that sad icon or folder icon.
Then one day, it decided to completely lose the plot. The ipod still starts fine and maintains it's charge fine, but there is no music on there. I had give or take 3000 songs on there, and somehow all of the music is gone. The thing is, on the 'about' title of the ipod and when i plug it into a computer, it says there is 17gb used and 11gb remaining. My photo's are still there (they would only be taking up 1 - 2 gb of space max), but just no music. So I presume it's still on there, but some reason i can't get to it. The painful thing for me is, my computer recently got stolen with ALL my music on there, so reloading the music on there is not an option. I have tried resetting it, disk mode and all other trouble shooting methods but to no avail.
Is there any suggestions about what my next options could be? Is there any option? Remembering, that my music is not backed up anywhere.
Thanks heaps to whoever helps me out.
    Cheers
    Tom

I'm having the exact same problem. I use a program called ipodrip to take songs from my iPod to my computer. If the iPod cannot be read my iTunes then an error message comes up in ipodrip and says something about hard ripping the music. Choose this option and it will start taking all the music from your iPod to your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where has all the 'help' gone?

I just commented on an earlier thread about the sudden disapearance of  online "help" from within Photoshop CS4. Why?
Now when I click on Help I get routed to a generic Adobe page where I have to burrow down through newer versions to find CS4, then have to guess how Adobe has described and categorized the subject. And then I often get routed to another site that is happy to solve problems, for a fee.
Sure, I can download the PDF, but it's much more cumbersome and less help-ful than the old system.
I suppose the intent was to make CS4 less attractive over time and drive more business to newer versions?

I must agree with you about Adobe having a more effective means of change 10 years ago. No one wanted to hear the hard core truth as I pushed many boundaries that made many people uncomfortable and at times irritated. The big barriers I see now is that so many things have been developed since then, that there comes a point in time that it may be too late due to the amount of crap that has been added to an application.
Then there comes the coding challenge to make change. Photoshop has been written in many different versions of architecture as new technologies develop in programming. On top of that - while some things may seem simple from a user interface stand point, may in fact be VERY difficult to change a behavior or structure of how things route. Basically, Adobe has made their own prison in some regards. The biggest bug that kills color accuracy and the processing of files is the oversight of being able to assign a color space to an image PRIOR to viewing it for untagged images  - depending upon your color settings. That is for sure a bad state of affairs. From my understanding, it would be difficult to fix this without some ground up rebuild of the application.
I do see some of the challenges Adobe faces and it just frustrates me that key important things just get overlooked or shoved under the rug without a fix.
Been working in the graphics industry since Photoshop 2.0  - long enough to know better is the short answer to your question. I have been in the commercial print industry, the wine label industry, point of purchase displays, Multimedia, Semi professional product photographer, Web and Video post production processing, IT development at HP trying to fix the unfixable mess with their phone and tablet division and generally studying my back side off learning how screwed up the Planet is when it comes to file processing and color reproduction.
As far as the book goes, it was Andrew Rodney and not Jeffs book. I stopped listening to Jeff, because he is a snob....;o) The information I spoke about is somewhat outdated, but the concepts are still very valid in trying to get users on the same page when it comes to color communication for all parties involved. As of now like I have said - color management is for individual use with very little assurance for consistency once files are passed onto others. Coming from many production environments  - some very unhealthy - has given me a true global perspective on how screwed up things are with no help in sight with the current so called state of the art software development.
So in essence, sadly to say, I was always right about my assumptions in regards to color management - most of which Adobe turns a blind eye to because they too know how screwed up things are and don't know how to fix it or don't care to.  Cool huh?
