Where's my Page Thumbnails button? Acrobat 8 Std

A few weeks ago I was able to click on the Page Thumbnails button in Acrobat 8 Std, some how it is no longer visible so can't use page thumbnails option. How can I fix this problem?

Right-click the left panel and select Reset Toolbars (or something similar
to that).

  • Acrobat 9 Pro Watermarks showing on Page thumbnails

I am seeing an issue with Acrobat, that did not appear for us, prior to version 9.
We receive PDF files and add Security and Watermarks to them. The Watermarks are set to appear on all pages only when printed.
However, in Acrobat 9, the watermarks show on the Page thumbnails (which we do not want). They do not show on the actual pages when viewed on screen (which is correct) and the Watermark does appear when the page is printed (which is correct).
The original file is being supplied to us in an Acrobat 9 format. We are doing our work in Acrobat 9. We are not going backward in versions at any step. We have tried going to older versions of Acrobat to solve the problem, with no success. It appears that once the file is created or saved in Acrobat 9, this issue appears.
Why is the watermark appearing on the thumbnail in version 9, when pervious versions did not have this? Has anyone else encountered this, even with previous versions? Suggestions?

    Hi,
Played with the PDF at the link's end.
Both the page magnification value and the page display setting affect what is viewed by a Bookmark.
Whatever these variables had set when you created the Bookmark from the newly created named destination
(or from selected page content) will determine what is displayed by the Bookmark.
For a given page display, the page magnification becomes the significant variable.
With that said, using a Named Destination will call for additional editing.
(neglected to mention this before   )
    Access a Bookmark's Properties.
    Open the Actions tab.
Select the Action shown in the bottom 'window'.
I suspect you'll see a Page number where you expected a Named Destination.
Selecte Edit. Tick "Use Named Destination".
    Click "Browse".
Select appropriate named destination from the list.
    OK > OK > OK
    Be well...

  • How can I export from Excel to pdf using Acrobat Std to achieve uniform page size throughout the whole pdf document?

After exporting the whole workbook to a single pdf file, page sizes are inconsistent. When viewing the document in full screen, some pages show up as 25% zoomed, others as 34%.  I could re-print the exported pdf file to pdf in Acrobat Std, and that way I could get the same page size throughout the document, but then I loose my bookmarks, which I don't want.
I have already set the page size to A4 in Excel, but that's not where my problem lies. any help, hint is appreciated.

A good place to start is Karl Heinz Kremer's blog, where he has a few examples:

  • Acrobat Std v9.5 browser session locks up past 2nd page

    I updated to v9.5 Acrobat Std. yesterday (from v9.45 --> 9.46 -->9.47 to 9.50).
I opened a PDF linked inside a webpage to a new tab (using 32 bit IE9). The webpage PDF opens fine. But when I scroll to the second page (which is black), the browser session locks up (including all open tabs). I have to use Task Manager to kill the particular non-responsive IE9 session (i.e., other, independent IE9 browser sessions do NOT lockup, and do remain running when I kill the errant session ...just guessing, but the non-locked up sessions may be an artifact of independent memory spaces from using W7 64 bit).
I tried this several times, opening a new browser session each time, trying to view the document past the first page (and if I do not scroll to the second page, the session does not lock up), and the lockup happened each time (i.e., the error is duplicable).
Testing, I opened another new session, clicked on the PDF link and chose to Save As, and placed the document on my desktop. It downloaded almost instantly, and opened just fine (and I was able to read the entire 7 pages of mixed texts & charts).
I did not experience this problem with Acrobat v9.45, ever ...and yes, I use that feature often (so I would have known if there had been an issue). I never really tested the issue under Acrobat v.9.46/9.47 (I didn't open those versions at all ...I was doing Adobe updates manually as per my usual routine, and generally follow the sequential order "just in case").
...and if no one can point me to a solution, then I suppose I'll have to try removing the update (if that's possible), or deleting Acrobat 9 (after deactivating the license - I read within this forum that you can do that, if you need to uninstall for some reason) and re-installing Acrobat 9.0 from scratch (I'd really rather not do that, but if that's what it takes).
NOTE: I do not have Adobe Reader installed. My OS is Windows 7 Pro (64 bit) w/8GB of RAM, and Intel Core 2 Quad. My preferred browser is IE9. All software and OS patches are current [to-the-version]. I'm an experienced user (20 years plus as a systems administrator); and non-gamer (i.e., malware free). This is a work box (primarily used for client remote support).
Cross posted from the Adobe Reader discussion forum (as I didn't get any responses there).

In reference to this change in the Custom Reports... Better experience when exporting data - to prevent customer confusion when exporting data from Mac computers, we have removed the export to excel option and exporting in CSV format by default.
What is the customer confusion we are trying to stop here? I've got even more confused customers at the moment because all of a sudden they can't find the export to excel option but know it exists if they log in on a PC?

  • Acrobat 9's handling of page thumbnails

Since upgrading to Acrobat 9, I've noticed that when I have page thumbnails displayed, I can only scroll down to the last full row of thumbnails. If I want to see a partial row, I have to:
    1. Move up the bottom of the window.
    2. Scroll down the thumbnail pane.
    3. Manually drag down the overall Acrobat window.
Is there something I can do to fix this problem, or do I have to hope someone from Adobe recognizes this problem exists & that Adobe decides to fix it.

This is a bug of Adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Reader 9.

  • Enlarge page thumbnails from keyboard in Acrobat Pro X?

I get RSI if I mouse too much. Almost every time I use Acrobat, I want to enlarge the page thumbnails. The Help file says to click on the little options menu and then on 'Enlarge Page Thumbnails'. This is what I've been doing. I note that one can also right click and press the relevant letter, but that's still a mouse click.  Since the letter 'l' is underlined in the options menu, I should be able to activate it from the keyboard. But I can't figure out how to do it. I can't reach the options menu from any of the main menus, and pressing 'Alt+L' in the Page Thumbnails menu has no effect. Is there a way of getting there from the keyboard?  Thanks  Mary

    Hi Dharmender ,
Did you try to repair your Acrobat once ?If not please try the same and check if that helps you out .
Launch Acrobat >Navigate to Help >Repair Acrobat Installation .
Do you get any error message or any prompts when it hangs and become unresponsive ?
Does this happen with any specific PDF or all the PDF'?
Also you could try to uninstall Acrobat once and they re install it if the above step does not work .
Please restart your machine once as well.

  • Can't Replace Pages (via drag and drop in Pages panel) in Acrobat 9 Pro

    I'm running OS X 10.5.8, Acrobat Pro 9.1.3, PPC G5 PowerMac.
I'll have two PDFs open and I'll want to replace certain pages from document A with certain pages from document B.  Rather than using the Replace Pages command from the Document menu, I prefer to visually see what I'm changing.  For this reason I've always preferred the drag and drop method, where one selects a page thumbnail from one document and drops it onto a page thumbnail in another document. This only seems to be a problem in Acrobat 9.  This works fine in Acrobat 7.1.1 and 8.1.6.  Drag and drop will allow one to insert pages but the replacement of pages is not working.  As described in Acrobat Help, under "Replace pages using a page thumbnail," I try to drop the page thumbnail onto the page number as prescribed but the page to be replaced never highlights like it should.  It will only give the insertion highlight between each page, indicating that it is about to insert a page.
Other macs exhibit the same behavior -- it always works in Acrobat 7 and 8 but not 9.
    Thank you for your assistance.

I'm using the Windows version of Acrobat Pro 9 and found this thread with the same problem. (Key command to replace on Windows is: Ctrl + Alt).
Anyway, to answer the how to disable the warning, go to the Acrobat Preferences. In the General category under "Warnings", check the setting "Do not show edit warnings". There should be a similar setting on the Mac version.
(Now I wish replacing pages didn't require a key command like in previous versions.)

  • Page navigation in Acrobat does not match page numbers in the document

I have a document in both Framemaker format (server.book) and PDF (server.pdf).  When I view the pdf file in Adobe Acrobat, the page numbers appear correctly on the document itself, but up in the Page Navigation window within Acrobat the pages number doesn't match.
In the beginning of the book I have Title page, a Table of Contents, and a Preface that all use lower-case roman numerals.  However, when viewing this document via Acrobat, the Title pages show up as i, and ii, but then the Table of Contents and Preface show up as pages 1 - 8 instead of iii - x in the page navigation window.
I can't figure where this discrepancy is originating.
    Please help.

Acrobat has no way to know which bit of character string on each page is the page number.
The visible page number has never formed any part of Reader nav. as you point out, it couldn't.
Acrobat knows the Numbering Properties of the pages as created in Frame. It just doesn't display or honor them consistently, depending on Reader version.
I also use i, ii, iii, iv for pre-narrative material. The romans are displayed in the page number box of Acroread (this is AR7 on Unix). I can enter "ii" in the box, and go to that page. But the Print dialog is Ordinal only. Printing page ranges in AR7 is always off by 2 or 4 relative to the actual page numbers.
Acrobat Pro 9 (9.4.5, Win7-64) seems to be more consistent, and does show and accept real page numbers for Print.

  • Print, Export and Page Navigation Buttons in the Report

When I view a report through CR4E, the generated report has 3 buttons namely Print, Export and Page Navigation buttons. But when I click on either of the buttons I get a &#39;null pointer exception&#39;. This is a critical error as I am unable to navigate past the first page. Do I have to add code to these buttons? If not, why am I getting an error? Kindly solve my problem as soon as possible.

<p>Looking at your code it appears that you are storing the ReportSource in session prior to passing in the ResultSet. This will create a problem when a postback is made on  the viewer page (which all of the viewer actions do). If you look at the sample code which is generated when you use the JSP Page Wizard you will notice that the ResultSet is passed to the ReportClientDocument object prior to it being stored in session. Then, when the page is called again this object is retrieved and the ReportSource is used by the viewer. You can quickly run the test using one of our sample reports to see what I am talking about. • Can you give inserted pages a unique page number in Acrobat?

    Example:
I have a pdf with 100 pages of various documents arranged in chronological order and numbered 1-100 ('The Bundle')
I have written separate document which make reference to various page numbers in the pdf. ('The Referring Document')
I then get another 2 page pdf  ('The Insert') which I want to insert in the Bundle so it remains in chronological order. Let's say I will need to insert it after page 47.
I do not want to renumber the Bundle 1-102 after I have put in The Insert as this will mean that the page numbers in the Referring Document will have to be edited to take into account that all the page numbers after page 47 are now different.
What I would like to do is to renumber The Insert: 47a and 47b. This means that the inserted pages have unique page identifiers and I do not have to edit all the pages in the Referring Document.
    Question:
Is it possible to automate page numbering for Inserts in the way described above in Adobe Acrobat? The example above describes a simple situation. The reality is that there can be many inserts with many pages to each of them.
    Many thanks in advance!
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi ,
Try this and see if this helps.
    1. Tools - Pages - Edit Page Design - Header & Footer - Add Header & Footer.
    2. Select the font and size, etc, place the cursor on the appropriate site to insert the page number, click the "Insert Page Number" button, and click OK.
Or you can choose the following option as well.
You can effortlessly add page numbers in PDF document and insert numbers in PDF files with the help of PDF Bates Numbering tool. This application is more beneficial for forensic experts and professionals.

  • [Solved] Adding Printer Marks to a Pages document in Acrobat

By "Printer Marks" I mean "bleeds" and "crop marks".
A bleed is the area of the paper that will be trimmed off after the job is printed.
Crop marks indicate the exact place where the paper is to be trimmed.
    Background:
I normally do programming and web development, but, after having spent about three hours fiddling around tryng to transform our Pages-made brochure into something to send to commercial printers, I thought I'd record the process so as not to waste so much time on the next occasion we do something similar.
I thought I'd share this with other Pages users because Pages has no native support for Printer Marks and PDF files contain this as metadata, so a commercial printer will expect this to be properly set up. I believe their printers may even read the PDF metadata.
    Required:
Pages and Acrobat Pro. (I have Pages '09 and Acrobat 9 Pro - updated from the one originally distributed with Adobe CS3)
    Recipe:
Set up a custom page size in Pages.
e.g. For an A4 sheet size (210 x 297 mm), the Pages "Page Setup" should specify 220 x 307 mm allowing for a 5mm bleed all round.
'Print' the document to 'Adobe Acrobat PDF' (which, for me, automatically opens up Acrobat Pro 9)
In Acrobat, go to: Advanced >> Print Production >> Crop Pages
The excellent article at http://www.prepressure.com/pdf/basics/page_boxes explains the Acrobat box model and points out that  PDF files will embed this important info for the printer:
The Trimbox  (defining the intended dimensions of the finished page): e.g. A4
the BleedBox and the MediaBox which are e.g. 5mm bigger all round the A4 sheet and will contain the Printer Marks.
So: You only need to edit the margins of the Trimbox on "All Pages". Acrobat will add the Printer Marks outside the TrimBox.
Ensure no other margins are accidentally edited.
The MediaBox is the imported page size and is not editable in the Crop Pages dialog
The  Bleedbox you wil most likely want to be the same as the Mediabox so won't need editing. Ensure it's 0,0,0,0.
The TrimBox is editable - and should be edited - here (e.g. add 5mm 'margins' all round to allow for the bleed.)
Click OK: Now if you specified margins for the CropBox …. but why would you? ... but this may be default Acrobat behaviour! .. you will have cropped out the screen area where the Printer Marks will be displayed.
Go to Advanced >> Print Production >> Add Printer Marks
I didn't check "All Marks" because I had a spurious Registration? "capstan" added in the middle of a page on one occasion. I checked Trim Marks, Bleed Marks and Color Bars. … on "All Pages".
Click OK; Command+S to save file.
    Good to go!

Use the Add Printer Marks tool:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/printer-marks-hairlines-acrobat-pro.html
