Where's the delete key gone?

Just got a new Macbook 2.4 - there's no delete key. The backspace key is fine, but I miss the delete key.
Is there another way of doing this?

The delete key or backspace key is all that there is on a MacBook. It functions as a backward delete. If you want to use a forward delete, you need to hold down the fn (function) key in the bottom left of your keyboard and hit the delete or backspace key. For a more functional or normal approach for heavy writing, I might suggest an external keyboard with the forward delete key in place. -GDF

  • Where is the DELETE key -- and I don't mean "backspace"

Every PC of any stripe that I have ever owned -- and we're talking a lot of machines in nearly 30 years of this -- has had two 'delete' keys.
One is a backspace key -- it erases characters in before the cursor. It's usually found above the enter/return key, where the backspace key used to be on those old-fangled typewriter machines.
The other key was a "delete" key -- which would erase characters that apper AFTER the cursor. There the backspace key would erase backwards, the delete key would erase forwards.
So, where is the DELETE key on a Mac keyboard? Is there some combination of keys that will serve that purpose? Or does somebody really think I'm going to move the cursor to the end of some place and delete backwards ALL the time?
I read in yesterday's Wall Street Journal that Steve Jobs doesn't like buttons, but this is ridiculous. It could, in fact be a fatal error... I've still got 10 days to take this thing back...
    --PS

I don't suppose there is any kind of utility program that would let me re-map they keyboard, so that I could make, say, the "enter" key at the bottom into a "forward-delete" key (I never use that enter key, my hands are trained to use the "enter/return" key where it's always been on a typewriter -- yeah, I'm that old...)
Either buried on the Mac somewhere or a third party program that would let me do that? Would sure make the MacBook more liveable... I delete a LOT!
    Thanks,

  • Where is the delete key??

i switched to mac recently, in windows i had (delete) key and (backspace) key, but in my mac, there is only (backspace) key. where is the (delete) key??

There is no backspace key on a Mac keyboard. The Delete key is on the upper right on the keyboard, and if you have a Pro keyboard, there is another smaller delete key underneath the F13-F15 function keys, along with help, home, end, page up and page down keys.

  • Where is the Delete Key on the Keyboard???

Where is the Delete/ Del Key gone from the keyboard on Macs? Apple used to have it but now its gone. There are two (2) Enter keys but no Del key!!! How is it possible to edit text each time by going to the end of the line and then pressing Backspace? The key which is labeled Delete does not perform the action as performed on a standard PC keyboard instead it works as a Backspace. Is there a way to customize a key to perform Del function or is there a combination key to make that happen? and what is with 2 enter keys??

    Hi,
    sorry I don't know why.

I reckoned so. The phone is easy to be faked.
Do you also see the N79 logo at the bottom left corner of the screen?

  • Where has the edit key gone

i notice that the recent new models of the n-series were without the edit key, noticably after n95 model. i actually find it quite convenient in terms of marking and unmarking files, copy and paste sentences, as well as changing language (well sometimes i mix the use of chinese and english in sms, msn and skype). i hope nokia will bring it back...

The '#' key replaces the edit key for most of these functions. As described in the manual...

  • Uninstalling applications? and wheres the delete key.

Sorry to sound like a complete idiot. However Ive had my macbook for a full day. First impressions are exceptional, however Ive only ever used DOS, Windows PCs over the last 13years, and this is completly new to me.
First question, which does sound dumb, is where is the delete key? I know theres a back space, but no delete for deleting characters in front of the cursor??? If so what key is it?
Secondly, how do I uninstall apps? In Windows, it could be done via add/remove programs, however I have no idea what Im looking for to remove installed programs on the hdd.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks Paul

    Hi
As for the remaining 1% that Terence did not deal with, these are applications that are more complex in structure and typically install files in various locations. These apps come with their own uninstaller. Check whether an app has such an uninstaller when you install it. Typically, uninstall info is to be found in the Readme file that comes with the application. As Dr. Smoke says:
"Never install an application until you know how to uninstall it!"

The delete key does a backward delete because it is the natural way to delete while typing. May not be to you and the millions of youngsters who grew up with windows computers. When you are typing and want to delete that which you just typed you are already at the end and you delete back to where you want to re-type. When you go back to a document and want to delete a selection, you have to go to the end of the selection instead of the beginning. it's just the way its always been done on macs. it takes some getting use to.
If you select text to be deleted with your mouse then the delete key deletes the selected text. same for either delete key method.
It is not convenient when you tab to fields in a form. That why fn-delete does a forward delete.
Macs have a couple of keyboards. The small "wireless keyboard" only has the (backward) delete (fn-delete forward). The larger "Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad" has both a Delete (backwards) key beside the = abd it has the "delete >" key in the groups with fn, home, end, Pg up and Pg dn. This keyboard is best for users who have switched from windows or are familiar with the windows forward delete.

  • HT1171 I have the apple wireless key board.  There is only one delete key and it deletes all data to the  left side of the cursor.  Where is the delete function for deleting letters that are on the RIGHT side of the cursor?

I have a new wireless apple keyboard. I can only delete items that are to the left of the cursor using the delete key.  What key do I use to delete items that are to the right side of the cursor?  I have only one delete key.
My old apple wired keyboard has 2 delete keys that enabled me to easly delete data on either side of the cursor.

Project deleted in iPhoto 11 ver. 9.1.1
After spending three months building a twenty six page Book Project in iPhoto i added a page and later decided to delete the page. I selected the page, pressed the delete key and confirmed the delete dialog box ( i didn't read, dummy) by pressing the delete button. The whole project was gone, the undo menu was grayed out and there was nothing in the iPhoto trash about my Book.
Surly I can find this if I knew the path to find the project in a library on a back column I have of my hard drive.. Could anyone help me?

Sorry I'm having a hard time getting this.
If I go to my hard drive BIGMAC>Library>Application Support>iPhoto>the only thing in this folder is Themes.
However, when I "Get Info" it's 580MB for 24,421 items. iPhoto says I have 35,977 photos. I would think the database would be into the GB for this many photos.
If I go to BIGMAC>system>Library>I find nothing about iPhoto
Is the iPhoto file in the Application Support the one I need to replace with my backup?
Thanks so much for your help.

  • Why does the delete key on the keyboard go backward?  How can I make it go the other way?

I'm used to a PC keyboard that enables me to delete characters from where my cursor it to the next space to the right.  The keyboard I have with my Mac, alas, is frustrating for me to use because it goes backwards from what I am used to.  Is there a fix to this?  My PC keyboard has a backspace button in addition to the delete button, so it is very straightforward for me that way.

The delete key, if the cursor is placed mid sentence, will remove letters etc forwards from that cursor point.   If you are deleting from the end of a sentence, the backward facing long arrow above the return key will delete backwards from that point.
For groups of letters or sentences, highlight them and press delete.
It is one of those situations where you should learn the new approach because the rest of the system is geared to it.

  • Where is the delete button on my wireless keyboard?

    Hi
I think that I may have exhausted every possibility but can anyone tell me if there is, in fact, a delete button on my Mac wireless european keyboard? I have a double width backspace button where the delete should be but it only works as delete in certain applications. It doesn't work as a delete button for instance in iTunes. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks

On an iPad this function is still one apple is to provide. On your Mac wireless keyboard it is the usual hold down the fn key and the tap the delete key.
