  • HT5037 I am stuck on step 2.  Where is the Go menu in The Finder?

Got a new iMac, and trying to use iPhoto, and get this message:  "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared." If you do, you can use the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool to prepare your library to work with the current version of iPhoto.
I click on learn more and get to this page, and I get stuck on step 2.  Where is the Go menu in The Finder?

Here's another method to get to the library:
NOTE: In Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder (the folder with the house icon) and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
Check the Show Library checkbox which will make that folder visible.

  • Where is the iPhoto folder?

I am using iPhoto 9.2.1 (OSX 10.6.8) after a recent upgrade. I was accustomed to searching for my photo files within the pictures folder> iphoto > where in addition to the iPhoto library there would be a folder containing all my files organized chronologically and by roll as they were uploaded. Now I find no such folder , instead there is an iPhoto recovered files folder, from my previous libraries and the new files are only accessible by clicking on the iPhoto library icon which opens the application revealing all my stored photos etc, however this way I can't access these pics from say my mail app or if I happen to be on a webmail like yahoo and want to send a pic I can't access the files, where is the iPhoto file folder being kept now? is it accessible or am I dependant on iPhoto to manage all photos I uploaded from my camera? Also while I'm here, why can't I see my camera as an accessible removable drive in the finder but are dependant on a photo app to access my files within the memory card?

Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is a Package File. This is simply a folder that +looks+ like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Directly accessing the files via the Finder is not supported. It's also unnecessary and quite inefficient.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of the above are a: faster and b: safer than what you're doing.

  • I see dictation in the iPhoto menu. Does this mean I can do narration for slides in a slide show?

I see dictation in the IPhoto menu.  Does this mean I can do slideshow narration?  ( I also have Aperture and would be willing to get iPhoto 11 to have this capability)

What version of iPhoto are you using? Post a screenshot of the menu where you see dictation.  That's the first time I've heard of that.

  • Where does the iPhoto library reside?

Where does the iPhoto library reside on your hd?  when I go to the search bar above, it shows 2 libraries!  I am about out of hd space so I am hoping that it has been duplicated somehow.  It's about 36GB. =)
    Thanks for your help!
    MK

By default it's in your Pictures Folder.
If space is an issue you can move the Library to an external disk:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Where are the iPhoto files separate from the program?

    Hi.
I am running iPhoto 8.1 in Leopard 10.5.6 on my early 2008 MacBook Pro 15".
I want to "backup" my iPhoto files. How I used to do this before Leopard, was to go into Pictures and find my iPhoto folder and there, I would find all the folders of my imports from my camera, numbered and in order by years, also. I would them just drag and drop each folder into Toast, and when it reached a DVD volume, I would burn a disc.
Now, in Leopard, I cannot find the iPhoto Files Folder. Every way I have tried to access it, I end up with iPhoto and when i click, it opens the program. SO what I have is the open program with the photos in the events.
How do I find and Where is the iPhoto Files Folder.
    Thank you.
    Waiting for your replies!

How I used to do this before Leopard, was to go into Pictures and find my iPhoto folder and there,
This has nothing to do with Leopard or the Operating System.
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder became a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Want to look inside? Select the iPhoto Library and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show package Contents'. A Finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
I would find all the folders of my imports from my camera, numbered and in order by years, also. I would them just drag and drop each folder into Toast, and when it reached a DVD volume, I would burn a disc.
Any time you access the iPhoto Library via the Finder or any other application you risk damaging the Library.
If you want to burn a back up using Toast then use the Media Browser built in to Toast or any of the following:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser

    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • HT1420 Where is the store menu in iTunes.  I just got a new computer.  I disconnected the old computer and want to authorize the new one.  There is no file menu or store menu anywhere I can see.

Where is the store menu in iTunes?  I updated my computer and want to authorize it.  I deauthorized the old computer (and probably my desktop at a different location, and want to authorize the new one.  The help says that I need to clickon the store menu in iTunes.  I do not see any store menu.  I can access songs that I purchased a while back, but cannot download any new purchases.  If I cannot get this worked out, how do I recoup my money for the new songs?  Also, can I transfer the songs I purchased to another service?  Brad

It's in the same spot on a Windows machine as well

  • Where is the "apps" menu item in the new iTunes interface?

Where is the “apps” menu item in the new iTunes interface?  I can no longer transfer files from my PC to my iPhone.
I just downloaded and installed the updated iTunes for my iPhone.  I cannot find the “apps” menu item anywhere.  How can I continue to download various types of files FROM my PC (Windows 7) TO my iPhone?  I previously did this by clicking on the “apps” menu item and going from there.  I cannot find the “apps” anywhere on the new iTunes.  Thanks.

Tonefox, no it's not under "Music" but I did some more digging and found where Apple has "hidden" Apps on their latest iTunes for PC.    You need to click on "iPhone" (upper right menu item) to display more menue items, of which Apps is one of them.  When I had clicked on "iPhone" before, I mistakenly closed the the iPhone option from view because I clicked on the up arrow next to iPhone, instead of just iPhone.  Once you click on iPhone, the options look similar to what they did in the earlier version of iTunes and you can easily find Apps.

  • HT5654 where is the help menu in itunes

where is the help menu on the itunes page

"The fact that people have to resort to searching on the internet just to find the help menu is a testament to the failure of iTunes"
Good point (though I wouldn't go as far as "failure").  It is surprising that Apple haven't followed the conventions used (for example) in Microsoft's Office products where Help (via the question-mark-in-a-circle icon) is always available in the UI irrespective of the user's choices of enabling/disabling the menu bar, toolbars, ribbon, etc.  Having the menu bar default to disabled also seems counter-productive - Apple may see this as "simplification" but I can't imagine that any users, other than those who make the bare minimum use of iTunes, would not want to have the functions available via the menus available at all time.
https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html allows you to submit feedback with respect to bugs, errors, omissions, and enhancements to the iTunes development team (though the degree to which this influences development is a matter of conjecture).

Where is the Go Menu in Outlook 2010?  I do not see it anywhere.

The CSS Designer panel is a fairly new addition to DW. The version of DW you are using is older than the tutorial video by at least one version.
There were quite a few changes between these versions...
    DWCS6 Perpetual (disk/one-time download)
    DWCS6 Cloud (subscription)
DWCC (first one with the CSS Designer panel)
    DWCC 2014
You really should make sure any tutorial you use matches your exact version of the program. Even if it does, updates to the cloud versions may make that information outdated in short order.

  • Where is the action menu in Pages?

Where is the action menu in Pagess?  The "accepting changes" help says its all in the "Action Menu" but nothing is labled as the "action menu"  Where is it?

    Simio,
I must confess, I didn't research the answer very well before my first response. It turns out that in the current version of the English edition of Pages User Guide, the phrase "Action Menu" appears 20 times. And to think I don't recall ever seeing it before.
My reading of the guide indicates that the "gear" icon with a disclosure triangle is an Action Menu. They are everywhere, in many contexts besides Tracking, and I always thought of them as the "gear" menu. Dale's graphic gets you close, but his capture isn't quite wide enough to catch the Action Menu icon. It's here:
And, it looks like this after clicking the disclosure triangle:
