Where should your various media files be located?

After backing up my purchased TV Shows, iPhone apps, music and movies, I have done a clean reinstall of iTunes on a cleanly reinstalled OS (Windodws7).
While all of my music seemed to have been restored, I am unable to locate a folder in which to place my purchased apps and TV shows for iTunes to recognize.
Is there a specific procedure to going about this?

iTunes doesn't automatically scan the folders for content, or look for specific types of content in different locations. Add the folders or drop the content into the *Automatically add to iTunes folder* (the recent exception to the rule above). TV Shows or Music Videos will generally be assumed to be Movies until you tell iTunes otherwise. If you decide to let iTunes keep your files organised the paths will end up looking a bit like the layout on the right.

  • Where should I place music files?

    1) If I download an MP3 where should I save the file? I'm looking to play these with iTunes.
    2) I currently see a file that is called "automatically add to iTunes" among others drilled down into the music folder. Is this the quickest way?
    3) I also have some music files witin the finder showing up under "all my files". What should I do with these?
Sorry, PC guy coming over to the dark side recently and not to familiar with my MBA yet. Thanks!

Yes. You can make a shortcut to that folder and put it on the desktop.

    Don't do anything with them.
If you are using the Search at top right of a Finder window, that simply finds files anywhere.

  • Sample rate of one or more of your captured media files Help

The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video of these media files to be out of cync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape

Most likely because the material was shot with a 32k sample rate and your capture preset is 48k.

  • Where exactly are the media files kept now?

It used to be simple, the media files were all in the Final Cut Events folders and if you trashed them they were gone.
However, now that I have updated my 10.0.9 projects and events to 10.1,  I apparently have identical  media files in the "Old Final Cut Projects and Events" folder together with the new Library.
I believe that some of these are symbolic, but which ones?
If I delete something from the "Old Final Cut Projects and Events" folder,  will it still be present in the new Library  .  .  .  .  .  and vice versa?
What if I delete both lots?
Where exactly are my old media files?

It's a tricky bit of engineering. If you updated the projects and events and the media was already in the events then the media will appear to be in both plays simultaneously, but only taking the drive space of one. If you delete the old events, the drive space will not go down because the media is still on the hard drive.
Here's the thing, when we say a media file is in a folder, it's not physically in the folder. It's somewhere on your hard drive, wherever there was space when the file was written to the drive. The file structure says they're in a folder or move from folder to folder, but in reality they never move. Only the directory structure changes. That's what's happening here. Both folders, old events, new libraries are pointing to same space on your physical hard drive where the media files are living. Both are holding the media files in their directory. If you delete them both the media will disappear from the directories and that drive space will be freed and eventually get physically overwritten as more stuff is written on the drive.

  • Where should I store video files on Mac?

Where should I file video files on my new Mac?

Are these projects you've worked on in iPhoto or iMovie? Then they're stored in their libraries by default.
If they're just videos you've copied to your computer, you can store them in your User folder (little house icon) > make a new folder and name it Videos; or User folder > Documents > new folder Videos. Be aware that those are space hoggers and you need to have an absolute ,ini,u, of 10 - 15 GB of empty space on your hard drive at all times - more is much, much better. So, an external drive with all your videos might be a good solution - you can just drag & drop them there.

  • Where is the running JAVA file is located

    Hey,
lets say my java file would be in C:\package1\whereIam.java
if I run this program, how can I ask (command ?),
in which directory the running java file is located.
    i.e. I would like to get C:\package1
    Aykut

    It's actually more complicated than that. The class could be in a jar file... would you want the directory the jar file is in? Well, I'll let you deal with those issues. You can get a URL to your class like this, I think:URL me = this.getClass().getResource("/" + this.getClass().getName());

  • Where should i put the file adf-config.xml ?

    hi,
I want to enable adf authorization, according to B25947(developer guide for 4gl/form developer),this file should put to <application_ name>/.adf/META-INF
Is it correct?I'm feel odd. Another thing is :why container binding authorization user/role come from system-jazn-data.xml?
    thanks everyone advance

    Hi,
yes, .adf\META-INF is located in the root workspac directory. It is created automatically if you se JDeveloper 10.1.3.2, which has an ADF Security wizard to automate the setup.
The system-jazn-data.xml usage is a requirement coming from OC4J and has to do with ADF Security using JAAS for authorization. This is subject tochange in a future version in which JAAS definitions will be possible on an application scope (jazn-data.xml) as well

  • Where are my iTunes media files going?

I have lost songs several times.  I go to play a song, and iTunes can't locate the file and there is a next to the title.  Sometimes it's only one or two songs from an album, sometimes the whole album.  Sometimes it's CDs I own and have ripped, sometimes music downloaded from the internet.  Many are no longer downloadable.  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.  I just checked and 1/4 of my extensive library is missing; that's about 500 songs!  I have not moved these files - I didn't even know where to find them in the finder until yesterday.  They don't appear to be anywhere on my hard drive.  I've checked "get info" to see where they are supposed to be, but they aren't there.  I've searched via spotlight and they can't be found anywhere.  Luckily, I do have everything backed up to my time capsule and I CAN find them there from July 29.  It's a real pain to find them there an bring them back.  I haven't figured out how to bring them all back at once, just one song or album at a time... all 500 of them:-(
Any idea what's happening?  Was there a new version of iTunes released during August that I didn't notice?  This has happened to me quite a few times and it's really frustrating that I never know when my music is going to evaporate.  I'm ready to go back to burning CDs - especially for the ones that can't be replaced.

I'm using a MacBook Pro with osx 10.7.4.  iTunes 10.

  • Where should I store my files?

I just bought my first Mac, a Mac mini. I also have two pc's that I use less and less. I have been storing all of my videos, mp3's, etc.  on a 1 tb NAS (dns-321). I was hoping to maintain that system, but it seems from my reading that some Mac programs, (iTunes, iPhoto) almost require the files to be on the Mac mini to work well. It seems I can't point iPhoto to look to my NAS for all of my photos.  Is that generally true? I am having difficulties figuring out what where to store my files and then back them up properly. Plug the nas into the mini and then buy a time capsule to back up both? Put a 1tb extra drive in the mini, move all of my files to that and somehow use the nas as a backup device? Ugh! Thanks!

I'm not familiar with iPhoto so I can't help there.
But iTunes libraries don't have to reside on an internal
drive.  I personally have all my iTunes library along
with my other multimedia material residing on a 2 TB USB
drive attached to an Airport Extreme Base Station (Apples
wireless router).  I also have a second 2 TB drive attached
to it as well for backup.
Now I do know that some NAS drives can be problematic.
You can post in the iTunes forum for more direct help on that.
You may also post in the iPhoto forum as well.

  • Where are the iMovie media files kept?

Can I access individual iMovie media clips to copy to another hard drive?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi
    Yes and NO
    a. If You imported a say 10 minutes of movie and use 1 minute of this as a clip in TimeLine.
THERE IS ON Such clip at all. Only a reference note in Your movie project describing protocol
eg use this (10min clip) from frame 00:00:02:00 to frame 00:00:03:00 (=1min)
Ther is no such actual clip only the Non-tuched original import material
    b. To find what You imported: Find the movie project icon (with a Star on it)
[ctrl-click] on this once and a menu will fold out.
Here select "Show content of package"
Now You see a new window with a folder named "Media" and in this is Your imported material.
    c. To just get the selected material You need to export this out as a full quality QuickTime movie
Then import this into a new movie project.
Now You'll only get the clip - but You can't extend it anymore though the beginning and end
of the full (prior) material now is absent.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Where should I place graphic files?

Setting up a new machine with external Sonnet drives. Should I place non time code files such as graphics, Motion files, music, etc. on the external drives? Or is it OK to place these files on an internal drive? Also, best place for render files, auto save, and thumbnail folders? Really appreciate any input.
    Thanks again,
    Tom

There is no single correct answer to this. I store graphics files on a non-boot internal drive volume, inside a folder at the top level named, imaginatively Graphics, sub-foldered by project names.
Likewise, at the same level, I have a folder named Music Cuts, and, also arranged in folders by project names, individual folders with the music inside. I also have a folder named Audio, which contains, inside project folders, VOs and SFX.
    I hope that makes sense.
Periodically, I will drag the Graphics, Music, and Audio folders to a CD (or DVD, when the folders get too large for a CD), along with the FCP Projects folder from the boot volume. (As with the others, project files are organized in folders named with the project names), and burn the disc for archival purposes. I label the disc with the date and the names of the top level folders.
From time to time, I will delete all aged files and folders that haven't seen any use in a good long while. By that time, I have several copies of them on several discs.
Many years ago, I did the same thing, but back then I was saving to a 3.5" floppy. That's how old my practice is.

i seatch for such database file in oracle ? And why would you expect Oracle to have the same file(s) as some other product?
Oracle implements it's databases with multiple data files, not just one. And that's in addition to all of the various files that make up the software, apart from any databases.
You definately do not want to put the database files under ORACLE_HOME. If you have any choice at all, I wouldn't even want them on the same partition. A default installation and db creation may try to put them there simply because that is the one directory structure oracle can count on being there. But that is one default that is far from best practice.
The minimum partition configuration I'd want for a Windows server hosting an Oracle database is ....
    c:\ - operating system only
d:\ - Oracle home, admin, and one set of all duplexed files (control, redo)
e:\ - all other database files
For the 'sandbox' setup on my personal laptop, where I only have a c: drive, I still break it out ...
    c:\oracle\app\product\10.2.0 <-- Oracle Home
    c:\ora1\mysid\ <--- some data files
    c:\ora2\mysid\ <--- some data files
    c:\ora3\mysid\ <--- some data files
Take a look at this: http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A97297_01/appg_ofa.htm
It is out of the 9i docs, and is directed to unix, but if you will read and understand the principles it is a good guide even for Windows. You can also google "optimal flexible architecture" and get lot's of other docs.
I dare say that at this point It would be a good investment in your career to go to tahiti.oracle.com. Drill down to your product and version. There you will find the complete doc library.
You should spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there. Learning where to look things up in the documentation is time well spent on your career.
Read the 2-Day DBA manual cover to cover.
Notice the 'search' function at that site.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Look in your alert log and find all the non-default initialization parms listed at instance startup. Then read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual. Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files, then look up what you see there in the network administrators manual.
