Where the **** have my emails gone?

I am getting this message: The message from S Hey <[email protected]> concerning “Re: rain sand and bears” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it.
Which is bull because the email was downloaded and the account is on 24/7.
I use a POP server and have my Mailbox behaviour set to NEVER delete. Anything over a week old has now gone, including business receipts, transaction details etc. They were there two days ago. Please someone tell me they're not deleted?!

This is one of the many bogus error messages in Mail that have absolutely nothing to do with what the problem really is. What the error message really means in the case of Mail 2.x is that the *.emlx file associated with the message isn’t where the index says it should be.
I have no idea what may have caused your messages to disappear from the filesystem but not from the index, though. Have you tried searching for them in Spotlight?
You may also want to try to salvage as many deleted *.emlx files as possible with a data recovery tool such as Data Rescue II, TechTool Pro, or FileSalvage. Of these, the only one I know for sure that can currently recover deleted *.emlx files is FileSalvage. Stop using your computer right now if you want to try that, as anything you do with the computer may cause the deleted files to be overwritten.

XP - I have found where the missing 2GB has gone for 4GB machines.

I have been looking into why XP can only see 2GB of my 4GB ram and it looks like the MacPro is reserving roughly 2GB of addressable memory for the PCI bus!
If you view resources by connection in Device Manager there are two areas of memory reserved for the PCI bus:
0x000A0000 to 000BFFFF ( less than 1 MB )
0x80000000 to 0xFE000000 ( 2016 MB )
I have no idea why such a large chunk of addressable memory is being reserved for the PCI bus but it is and thats why you cannot see you full 4GB.
If I actually count up how much of the address space is actually used by devices I get :
0x80000000 to 0x90C04BFF ( 268 MB )
there is also an area reserved for motherboard resources but not used
0xD0000000 to 0xDFFFFFFF ( 256 MB )
So we get an area missing here
0x90C04BFF to 0xD0000000 ( 1012 MB )
And here
0xDFFFFFFF to 0xFE000000 ( 480 MB )
This is a total of 1492 MB of wasted address space!
Apple please can we have our ram back?

i think its highly unlikely that its actually got
anything to do with the pci bus, its just doze
confusing itself. xp can only utilise 3 gigs of ram,
and if you have it managing virtual memory then it
may be counting 1gig of drivespace over the 1gig of
physical ram. you should be okay to turn off virtual
memory in xp with that much physical ram (cant
remember how you do it, its in the performance
settings somewhere), provided you dont use multiple
very ram heavy apps at once. that might enable xp to
see 3 gigs of your physical ram and may speed things
up a bit.
On my MacBook Pro C2D with 3GB I see all 3GB booted to Windows XP, on my Mac Pro with 6GB I see only 2GB. So I don't think it is "Windoze".

Where the heck has everything gone and how do I get it back???

I changed computers and (sort of) managed to bring all my books over to the new one. Took my loaded NOOK when going on vacation to South Africa for a month and guess what? When I went to read something, the Nook said that the user (ME) was not authorized. After many, many emails, B&N told me to unregister my Nook, reregister my Nook; delete adobe digital editions and Digital Editions files from the Nook drive. So I had nothing...right? They then said open ADE (which I no longer had since they told me to delete it). So I redownloaded ADE, and authorized it again. They then said drag and drop books to ADE bookshelves. But there weren't any books, since I had done what they said and deleted everything. Good Grief! Can someone please tell me
how to get my books back, and how to make sure that I will no longer be an "unauthorized user".....this product has to be one of the most frustrating
things I have ever bought!

All of your books should still be available at the site that you originally got them from; ie smashwords, barnesandnoble.com. You can download them as many times as you want from your account.

I'm trying to recover my iCloud password so I can recover my ipad from a backup. The password I thought went with my iCloud account is not working and the emails are not showing up in my inbox or spam folders. I'm not sure how to recover my password. When I put in my birthday, it says it's not correct so I'm really confused.

Where the PDF & Web preview gone?!?!?

After updating the Bridge to the latest version, i've noticed i can't anymore to take some photos and preview them as web or PDF.
Why is that?!?!?
It is an important feature for me!
even when i'm pressing "output PDF and web" (or whatever it called) through the Output work area nothing happens.
i don't want to uninstall the whole CS5 pack in re-install it again. it will take too much time for something really small.

The Facebook, Flickr, etc. features are under "Export" tab in the lower left of the workspace, while the PDF and Web Gallery functions are under the "Output" tab in the upper right part of the workspace.
Click on the down arrow in the upper right corner where it has "Essentials" and select "Output" from the drop down menu to display those optins down the right side of the workspace.

Why can I only see iCloud email from the last 4 months? Where have all my old emails gone?

I was trying to track down an old email from November last year and having used the search tool with no luck resorted to scrolling through the weeks. I then discovered to my horror that I didn't have any emails beyond 1/12/13 !!
I have subsequently checked online using iCloud and the results are the same. Where have all my emails gone? I have been a MobileMe member since it started and pay for increased storage - which I am no where near utilising - how can I retrieve the 'missing' old emails? I have many Apple devices and it appears they are mssing on them all....

You might want to go to icloud.com and open your calendar, then click the gear icon and choose Preferences, then make sure you aren't hiding old events on the Advanced tab.

So long as you are logged into the iTunes Store, using the correct ID and password (settings >store), then you will always have access to your apps, books, music, TV shows etc etc bought via the iTunes Store on that account.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Grayed out whee? Computer? On iPod?
If in iPod that means the music files got corrupted and are lost.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
