Brand new iMac 3.4GHz fan runs all the time - how do I stop it?
Hi, just opened my shiny new imac but the fan runs all the time and very loud! Has anyone any ideas how to fix this or should I return the imac to apple?
I've also noticed that none of my external drive icon show up on the desktop - nor does the imac hardrive icon appear - any ideas?

SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
PRAM RESET
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys. -
When do new computers get Lion pre-installed after the roll-out?
Once Apple announces the availability of Lion, how long does it take before one can order a new iMac from the online Mac Store with the new OS pre-installed? I've been waiting to purchase the iMac after the Lion roll-out so I don't have to install it myself.
When I ordered a MacBook for my mother it was the day after Snow Leopard was released. It came with Snow Leopard installed.
Now this is not a guarantee but I am thinking that Apple doesn't sell a new Mac without the most current OS installed. (Note I said Apple, an Apple reseller like best buy might not be in the same situation) -

sorry i posted this too soon. just updated my driver. found out the old driver caused a crash with Lion. if you are having this problem uninstall your driver then install the most recent one. works like a charm

If I back up my iOS devices on my iMac in the US, then do a time machine backup to an external HD, will I be able to plug the external HD into a brand new iMac in the UK and restore the new machine as per the old one, and restore my iOS devices?

Oh, you cannot use a computer whose only disk drive is the target of a an OS X cloning operation regardless of what software is used for the clone. You can, however, use the source drive except if you try to clone using Disk Utility. -
I'm wondering if it is even possible to install the FCS 3 on brand new out-of-the-box Mavericks OS.... I need FCP 7 for my work. I allready installed FInal Cut Studio 3 on my Mavericks MacBook Air, but that OS was an updated one, from the previos version. It works greate (rendering is a nightmare though :-)).
The thing is that i have read meny post about People unable to Install Finac Cut Studio 3 on a brand new - not updated - Mavericks....

I have friends who have FCS 2009 (aka FCS 3) running on 10.9 machines from fresh installs.
Be aware that if you use a third party output device (Kona, Decklink, MXO, etc) you must have the updated drivers as well.
One friend had such issues with his Blackmagic Intensity card in a MacPro that he went back to an earlier OSX to find stability.

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

Does anyone know why or what is the reason when starting a new iMac with Lion, sometimes a gray bar appears under the Apple that begins to shade to dark as it loads OS? It does this on occasion. One time the system loaded was VERY slow and terrible colors. Pulled the plug, re-started the computer and it did not do this. As I say, its only on occasion, not every time. I noticed in the discussion page there were problems listed for 10.6 nothing for Lion.
Please advise, if possible.You should see this 4 option menu. Click on Disk Utility:
In Disk Utility, Select FIRST AID and then VERIFY and then REPAIR the disk.

Just bought a new iMac, with Lion, for my wife. When is was wifi with her old iMac on line with it's printer, HP C6200, no problems printing. Now that it is by itself it does not recognize the C6200...It recognizes my laser hp 1012 and laser hp 6300 but will not print to them wanting an autenication
How is the C6200 connected to the iMac, is it via USB or Wi-Fi? If it's via Wi-Fi please make sure it's connected to the router using the printer's Network Wizard. Then click System Preferences - Print & Scan and assuming the iMac is on the same network as the printer, if it is the printer should be seen. If it's not then click the + sign and add the printer. I currently have two macs. A 2008 macbook which is running Snow Leopard, can run Lion, and cannot run Mountain Lion. I also have a mac mini which came with Lion pre-installed. I plan on upgrading my mini to Mountain Lion when it's available. After I upgrade, it seems like I should be able to install Lion on my macbook using the license that came with my mini.
I have found many articles about making a DVD or bootable USB drive to recover, or install Lion onto other macs. So, I am not tied to the mac app store. And I am not worried about how to install Lion onto the macbook.
I have also read a few discussions about upgrading using pre-installed Lion license. From what I've read, if someone buys Lion through the app store, they can install it on all of their macs. But, if they have a machine the came with Lion pre-installed they can only use Lion on one machine. However it is unclear if that license can be transferred to another machine.
Another common answer that I have seen is, "Don't be cheap! Just buy Lion throught the app store." This is not about money, I'm interested in the technical challange, and the leagal question.
Does anyone have experience with this, or opinions?If your machine came with Lion preinstalled, you cannot use it on another machine. It is tied to the machine it came with. You are allowed to make a one time transfer of the OS when you sell the machine as long as it remains with that machine.
If you purchase Lion from the app store, you are free to install it on as many Macs as you own - however, if/when you sell one of those Macs, you are required to uninstall Lion as the license is not transferable and you need to reinstall the original OS.
