  • How to back up iPad files away from home?

One can obviously back up iPad files away from home by uploading them to a server in the clouds, but it appears that there is no way to back up iPad files locally when not connected to a computer. What if I'm shooting photos and video while traveling and editing them on my iPad? Uploading gigabytes of data to a web server would be really painful! When I asked this question at my local Apple Store, it was obvious that Apple had not briefed their store employees on this issue.
As far as I can see, the iPad aspires to be far more than a home entertainment unit, as well it should. But the bottom line is that you've gotta be able to back up your work. Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

Some aspects yes via MobileMe such as contacts, mail etc which should already be in the Cloud or on another remote server somewhere.

    Correct, subject to the above.

Remember they have had the iPad less time than you Not an excuse but something to consider. Your point is well made though. Thats why its not a replacement for a laptop and has been stressed repeatedly to be so.

Yes, its not a laptop replacement so your expectations are great, but not something that the architecture could support. Once Apple get the MobileMe/iDisk thing sorted out to allow storage on that from the iPad it will be fine. Until then, its 'just' a mobile entertainment device as advertised and it will never be a replacement for a laptop.

  • How do I find backed up iPad files on my desktop (Windows XP)?

I accidentally deleted a video that is synced with my desktop.  I don't necessarily want the video back on my ipad but would like access to it for the future if i wanted to include in a movie.  Rather than do a complete restore, is there some way to find the video on my desktop and save it for the future.  I searched every way imaginable to find the videos and photos from my "Camera Roll" using the search function and couldn't find it last night.

What app was the video in ? If you synced it to the Photos or Videos app from your computer then it won't be in the backup - for the Photos app only photos/videos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit or saved from emails/websites are backed up.
Otherwise the only way is to restore the iPad, the backup files probably won't make much (if any) sense to you - on XP they are stored :
    Windows XP:  \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and click OK.

  • ITunes would not update Ipad soft, stating I don't have enogh space onthe PC for files, even though I just completely backed up Ipad through Itunes on the same PC. Seems like Itunes is disconected from itself.

Itunes would  not update my Ipad soft citing insuficient space on PC to back up Ipad files. Even though I just baked up Ipad through Itunes on the very same PC.
It seems that Itunes is disconected from itself and is not able to track processes within itself for the same device in the same session. Any solutions?

  • When backing up ipad to PC where do the files go?

When backing up ipad to PC where do the files go? I have 44 GB of info on my ipad and it only took about 5 minutes to backup, I do not see it on my computer. I shut my cloud off because I don't like paying for space monthly when I have so much

Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press Return.
    Hope this helps.

  • I have DVD's that I made from iMovie. I would like to know a way I can bring them back into a file that I can somehow transfer to my iPad, so I can show movies on it, the iPad.

I have DVD's that I made from iMovie. I would like to know a way I can bring them back into a file that I can somehow transfer to my iPad, so I can show movies on it, the iPad.

Pad2, the new iPad Supported Video Formats & Movie Formats
    H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
    MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Here's one way to install. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
     Cheers, Tom

  • Backing up iPad app audio files manually

I am using a specific iPad app for work (Assess) that was designed to not sync or backup audio files that I create within the app.  The thing is, for multiple reasons, including the fact that my iPad Air has 10 GB of Other data and is in need of a fresh restore) I need to back up those files.  I've contacted the developer and they say they can't help and they designed it that way on purpose.  There have to be some third party apps out there that would let me see the files on my iPad and copy them, yes?  Suggestions?

No suggestions and the Developer has the ability and right to maintain there files solely inside their application.
If it is intentionally built that way, there is likely no good method of bypassing their security.
All IOS apps only have access to their own storage and do not have the ability to reach into another apps space, This is part of what make the IOS so secure against malware.

    - A while back, i did something to where when i open a file in photoshop, it no longer is one window, now it's two separete ones. one for the program itself, and another for the actual file how do it get it back to where it's all one window without having to be in full screen mode? I've managed to go some time like this, but right now it's just really annoying me. HELP!!!

Just drag the small window to the top right below the toolbar, you'll see the area highlighted and when you drop it the file should dock.

  • I loaded my ipad photos from camera and all the pictures sorted by date.  Next, I did a sync with my computer and the photos were all reorganized into IMPRT folders an out of date sequence.  Any idea how to put the photos back into date files?

I loaded my ipad photos from camera and all the pictures sorted by date.  I later sync my ipad with my computer and the photos were all reorganized into IMPRT folders an out of date sequence.  Any idea how to put the photos back into date files other than reloading all of them from camera?

    What version of iPhoto?
Select one and rotate it. Then rotate it back. Does that make it appear?
A much better work flow is the keep the photos after importing.  Check the success the import, wait for at least one successful backup cycle then use you camera's format command to reformat the card

  • Where do I save .doc file on an ipad

I understand that by using pages app that I can open and modify a microsoft word document. But how and where can I save the file as .doc file????

    Hi
I have been using Pages Only on my iPad, but need to save files as .doc regularly... Whenever I want to make a .doc file I use the "Save As . . ." option and choose .doc in the format box.
The document itself is kept with my other Pages documents, which I believe may be what you originally asked.
As far as I can tell, on the iPad there is no way to "organize" them, like there is on the iMac or other desktop/laptop. As far as my understanding, the iPad was not intended to be a full laptop - but maybe that has changed as they have added more functionality to the iPad 2.
You can, as others mentioned, email the .doc files to anyone you choose from within Pages.
    I hope this helps

  • Can i back up my files  on the ipad 2 to my pc

can i back up my files  on my ipad ? please advise how.
    thanks
    fletch

Everything on your iPad should already be on your PC if you've been syncing it with iTunes regularly as designed.
What, specifically, do you want to backup?
Everytime you connect the iPad to iTunes it makes a backup automatically.
You can transfer apps you have purchased directly on the iPad by choosing iTunes > File > Transfer purchases...
