Where to buy replacement dvd drive

The Pioneer DVD-RW  DVRTS08 has gone out in my iMac. What to replace it with and where do I get it?
Thanks!

Yeah, you`re probably right, I should buy a new mac( instead of wasting a lot of money in buying( replacements) parts for my old titanium.
But they are not cheap right now, for me. I will get used to my old crapy titanium for now, upgraded as much as possible, Until my financial moment gets a little better.
Cause I work and Study at same time...And everybody knows how hard it is for you know a student( trying to graduate to look for a better high paying job.
Thanks for the advice again eww.
Cheers
John

  • Touchsmart IQ542 - Replacement DVD drive

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement DVD drive for my Touchsmart IQ542? The current drive has decided that it really likes the DVD that is currently in it and won't spit it out, I suspect that this problem will only get worse so now is probably a good time to replace the drive.
Ideally I would like to put a Blu-ray drive in but if that's not possible a replacement for what is already in there would be fine.
    This question was solved.

  • Is it available to replace DVD driver in MacBook Pro with SSD 512GB Crucial m4 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb?

I'v external DVD driver and I'd like to replace DVD driver with in MacBook Pro with SSD 512GB Crucial m4 2.5-inch SATA 6Gb.  Is it available? All your opinions are welcome.

Here is a post from another thread on this problem.
So here's the deal, don't expect SATA III devices to work on the optical port.  I just went thru this on both my 2009 and 2012 13" MBP's.   The 2009 is SATA II (3Gps) and the 2012 is SATA III (6Gps).   A SATA III SSD (OWC 6G) will only connect at 1.5 Gps on the 2009.  On the 2012, it actually connects at 6 Gps, but every drive I tried crashed (dropped drives, file errors, kernel panics), including a Samsung 830 and  Seagate Momentus XT 750.  Out of desperation, I stuck the (slow 500 Gb) Apple HD in, it connects at 3 Gps and works like a champ.   Check your System Info on SATA info.   If you have a 2009, don't waste your $$$ on high end SSDs or drives.  If you have newer, BEWARE, you're likely to have issues with high end SATA III devices.    On the bright side both Samsung and OCZ V4 work great on the main drive (450 MB/s read) and boots in 10 seconds!!      The optical drive SATA port is a major issue for everyone ( like me ) who buys MBPs because they can trip them out, this is a real nagging issue/obstacle.   This is a firmware issue that needs to be addressed by Apple. I'm hoping for a firmware update and that Apple isn't doing this intentionally.

  • Where to buy blank DVD-R 4x?

Hi guys as my laptop burns only dvd-r 4x does anyone know where to buy verbatim dvd-r 4x...
Couldn't find any shop (they only sell 16x). Bought verbatim 1-16x but don't work my laptop is equium A60 with pioneer drive dvr k13a (there is no firmaware update for this drive)

    Hello
You must not buy empty media that allows just maximum burning speed of your drive. If the maximum burning speed is 4x you can also use 16x empty media. They will be burned with 4x but the result will be the same.
By the way: I use TDK blank DVDs. I am very satisfied. I can really recommend using them.
    Bye

  • IMac - Where to buy replacement HD fan (Early 2009, 20") MB417LL/A

The fan is old and worn out, and  I need a replacement HD fan!
Where to buy replacement HD fan? Link?
If I can I buy from Apple, link?
    Early 2009, 20" 2,66 Mhz, MB417LL/A?

You might find a better deal on eBay from a highly rated seller.
I've also had a good experience with this place, who might have it.
    http://www.cwioutlet.com/
They also have an eBay store. I checked out all the possibilities, including the one you were just given, and cwi was the best price-wise. For what I needed, same seller, the direct one linked above was less expensive than their eBay store.

  • Where can I buy a replacement DVD drive for a mac mini A1347

My mac mini is out of warranty and my toddler stuffed several discs into the drive slot.
Whenever it booted, it made a horrible ratcheting clicking noise, but couldn't eject anything.
I disassembled the entire computer, and pulled all 3 discs out with pliers. After reassembling, the computer works fine, but the DVD drive won't "catch" a disc and pull it in. I'm pretty sure some gear or something has been irreparably damaged, or that I bent it as I was pulling the disc out.
I've been having a difficult time trying to find a replacement drive to order anywhere.
Besides going with an external USB drive, does anyone know of the cheapest option for a replacement slot drive for the mac mini A1347. (AKA "mid 2010", AKA Core 2 Duo DDR3).
I don't want to haul it down to an Apple Store and pay a huge premium to have them diagnose and replace a part that I'm very capable of doing myself.
    -John

If your in the US then the ifixit link is a good option, in the UK the following is an option

However when I had to replace a drive in a Mac mini, I bought a bare drive off eBay.

  • Replacement DVD Drive for Pavilion dv5 Notebook

My DVD Optical Drive will not read disc so I can't load software.  I'm trying to replace it but can't figure out what drive to buy.  In the HP Support Assistant it says the Model is CDDVD TS-L633N.  The product number for my computer is WQ799UA#ABA.  Can't anyone tell be where I can get another drive like the one I have?

Thanks, I got it to work by going to the cmd prompt and manually auto running the program. At first it said there was no disc in the drive. Weird, and this keeps happening.

  • Replacement DVD drive - broken Mashita drive

    Hi,
I have a broken Mashita DVD burner, probably the UJ-845-B (I already removed it), but this one is no longer available. I'm looking for a replacement internal Drive. I've seen people using Pioneer, Sony and other types of Mashita DVD burners, but usually with other iMacs.
    I've got some questions:
    1. What DVD burners are compatible with my iMac G5.
    2. If I install a newer model Mashita will I need to update firmware and where can I get it (or does Apple provide it)
    3. Other things I need to take into consideration before buying a new one
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi,
Just some info on my own question:
I purchased a NEC/Sony Optiarc AD-7633A. I removed the old Mashita ( "How-To" documentation can be found on Apple's website) and then replaced the bezel (front side where CD/DVD's go in) from the Optiarc with the old one from Mashita. Some simple cutting of little clips is necessary to make things fit well. Place things back and works like a charm.
No updating of Firmware necessary and the Apple immediately recognizes the DVD drive
Good luck for all of you who need to replace their own Superdrive.

  • SATEGO P100-490 replace DVD drive

The optical drive on my SATEGO P100-490 is getting worse and worse.
It started with delays while watching DVD movies, now sometimes even CD-ROM cannot be read.
So I suppose it is a hardware issue with the drive, a Panasonic UJ-850.
I was looking for replacement and in general I did find a lot of UJ-850.
But many times the seller indicates that for operation in Tosiba systems a firmaware update "set master" is required.
    So my questions:
Wher can I get this firmware update?
What drive model can I use?
Is SATEGO the same as Satellite?
P.S.: I am running WIN-XP on this machine.
I am going to buy a new machine soon, so I won't spend more than 100EUR for the repair.
    Many thanks for any help.

    > But many times the seller indicates that for operation in Toshiba systems a firmware update "set master" is required.
Fact is that not all drives are compatible and therefore you should contact the ASP in yoru country before purchasing an CD/DVD drive the guys could provide some info what drives are compatible
    >Wher can I get this firmware update?
Firmware is installed and you will not get any special firmware from Toshiba.
    >What drive model can I use?
See above you can get it from ASP
    >Is SATEGO the same as Satellite?
I think both notebooks series are very similar there is a difference between some hardware parts like HDD or graphic card but the whole notebook layout seems to be the same

  • Replace dvd drive with SSD

I am thinking about removing the dvd drive in my macbook pro 15" and putting in a SSD drive. Then create a fusion drive using both the existing harddrive and the new ssd.
    What is recomended?
    1) Swapping the hd to the dvd and putting the ssd in the existing hds place.
    2) Or just replace the ssd with the dvd-drive? Leaving the HD where its at.

MacBook Pro's, for some reason, like the boot drive in the 'original' HD location. I have no idea if this would be the case with a DIY 'fusion' drive, however.
You may want to actually call OWC to see what they recommend (and, if you're going to replace the optical drive, you simply can't so better than the OWC Data Doubler)...
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Can Apple supply replacement DVD drives (IDE) for 2008 Mac Pros?

I have tried to find replacements for two faulty internal Superdrives on-line, with no luck.
Today I went into my local Apple Store and was advised to call with my serial number.
After calling & waiting I was told I needed to be put through to the technical department.
That turned out to be the Applcare line.
My Applecare expired a while ago & the office was closed anyway.
I haven't been able to find out directly from Apple if they can still supply replacement drives, does anyone here know (anyone actually got some)?
Please help me clear the junk of my desk and rid me of tatty plastic Samsung drives....

yeah, I think you nailed it there. technically Apple does still provide service for the 2008 Mac pro's but you'd have to take it in and wait.  Your mileage may vary-As you (and I) have found out, it'd be cheaper and easier just to go out, buy a new drive, and install the darn thing yourself. Besides, Optiarc (the original drive makers) aren't in business anymore, and....yeah....you'll probably find E sata  DVD drives 97% of the time, so probably go with that. I bought from MCE tech... an Atapi Blu Ray drive, which I had to buy because my superdrive bit the dust,  and a new DVD burner would have cost at least 50, so, I figured why not. In a pinch, you can use an ATAPI/IDE dvd burner from a PC  with no problem. Just plug 'er right in, and make sure the jumper is set to 'cable select' .. as for Pioneer, I know that OWC has the Pioneer blu-ray drive, but I haven't been able to find any plain Pioneer DVD burners, at least not around here.
So, i guess in answer to your question: technically, yes, but you'd have to bring in your mac pro and pay their prices.

  • Satellite M70 replacement DVD drive advice needed

    Hi
The Mat****a US-841s DVD drive in my M70 has expired.
I would like to replace it with a Sony Optiarc, but I notice it says operating system Vista and I've got XP Home.
I have spent hours researching this and I can't find a drive that's compatible, can anyone tell me if the Sony is ok or recommend a suitable alternative?
I don't want to fork out money and then have lots issues I just want it to work straight out of the box although minor fiddling isn't a problem..
    Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hey Andy,
I dont know if the other drive that you mean will working in your Satellite M70 but I would recommend checking the user manual of your notebook. There you can find a list of compatible drives they are pretested. You should find this information on the first pages I think.
    Check this!!!
The point is that not all drives are compatible with all notebooks so you should buy a pretested drive.

  • Replacement DVD drive for a Portege A100

    Hi
My Portege's DVD drive is making horrible clicking noises and appears to be on its way out. I have read from a thread on here that universal drives might not work as the Portege's BIOS has assigned the DVD drive as slave and that the new drive must be slave in order to work. Is this correct? I really do not want to be doing the soldering fix!
I have another laptop which has a TSST drive in and i plugged this in and the portgege showed an ide error. Is it just a matter of having the correct firmware or is the issue regarding the ide settings mentioned above.
I have shortlisted a Toshiba dvd drive PA3162E-2CD2 but it says it is compatitble with the Portege 4000, 4010, M100 and Tecra 9000, but does not list the A100 as compatible. Does anyone know if this drive will work on my machine?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi again
You are right. I have checked users manuals and there is nothing about compatible ODDs (optical disc drive). I recommend you to replace it wit the same model. Portege A100 is not known to me (I believe it is designed for UK market only) but ODD replacement is pretty simply. I believe ODD is fixed and it is mostly done with one screw that you can find on bottom side. After removing the screw you can take ODD out of notebook.
New drive must be placed into same place, fixed with screw and the job is done. If nobody offer any help here you can see if you will be able to remove ODD alone.
    Bye and good luck!
