Where to buy the iphone 3gs ?

Hi
Bit of advice please?
Should I purchase my new iphone from an O2 store or other mobile phone shop such as Car Phone Wharehouse ?
Are there any advantages / disadvantages from NOT buying direct from O2 ???
Thanks

Can buy from any official place. For me, I would prefer going to an Apple Store as the employees there seem far more knowledgeable about the device and can answer all questions. However, the carrier store is a good place to go if you want to get good answers about your plan. So just depends which you think you will have more questions about.
Yes both places know about the others sides of each, but each side will be more helpful on their particular subjects.
If you really don't care either way, you can always just buy from here right now.

  • To buy or not to buy the iphone 4

hey guys, i kno im new here but thought id share my thoughts.
ive neva had an phone before, used to have a nokia n96 and decided to buy the iphone 3gs back in feb this yr from the apple store which cost me £450. i gotta say its an awesome phone ( have the ipod touch 3rd gen as well ) and when hearing bout the iphone 4 i thought i had waisted my money on the 3gs, so i waited until iphone 4 launch and then all the complaints startd pouring in. i gotta say i really do like the deign sum wat and the screen is amazing but with all these problems with the phone i think im gonna wait for iphone 5, plus o2 wanna charge me £260 to upgrade early which is a rip off if u ever saw one. so i feel bad for all of u that have paid for a unusable phone and those of u that also sold ur previous phones. if iphone 5 is no better than the iphone 4 then its back to a nokia again. but my iphone 3gs is still the best phone ive ever had the pleasure of using ever.

IF you can wait I would honestly say wait till they fix the problems...other wise the iphone 4 is a hit or miss. Some people have problems and some don't.

  • Buying an iPhone 3GS without the AT&T contract.??

Hi there... I live Ohio and I was thinking of buying an iPhone 3GS (16GB).
My question is that if I buy the iPhone from an Apple Store without the AT&T contract (approx 600USD for the 16GB model) from the United States, will I be able to use my phone in other countries with their local network carrier's SIM cards? I have a traveling job (have to switch countries every 3-4 months or at least twice a year) so I usually buy a local SIM from the country that I live in since that is a cheaper option for me.
I have wanted an iPhone since a very long time now but I hate what Apple has done (the contract with AT&T). What good is a phone for a person like me who travels so much in a year?!! I need a phone where I can switch SIM cards without any hassles.
Hope someone has an answer to my question. I don't want to buy the iPhone unless I'm absolutely sure that it will work in other countries (mainly Australia, UAE & India)

ALL U.S. iphones are carrier locked to AT&T in the U.S. They CANNOT be activated with any other carrier in any other country.
You need to buy an unlocked phone from one of the few countries that offer this.

If you buy an iPhone at the UK or Canadian Apple stores, it should work on the GSM frequencies in both countries. LTE will not work as the LTE channels are different in each country and each iPhone sold in each country is only compatible on LTE channels of that particular country. Other wise it should be fine.
Be aware that only the Apple store (retail or online) sells the unlocked iPhone in the UK. I think the situation is similar in Canada. (It is in the US).

    Glenn,
I tried upgrading to leopard, even bought the software and brought it home but it wouldn't let me. So i went back to apple, gave them the specifications of the machine and been told my machine is simply too old for leopard. This is incredible to me because it really isn't THAT old (i think just a little over 6 years maybe) and yet i'm left out on the curb when it comes to using newer apple products. I understand technology moves on but the mindset that i am supposed to dump a perfectly working machine after a couple of years or face not being able to use any other apple product is counter to what thought apple was about.

  • Minimum age to buy an iPhone 3GS outright?

    Hello,
I didn't know where to put this - so I just thought this was the most relevant.
Is there a minimum age for buying an iPhone 3GS from the Apple Store?
    Thanks in advance

Not that I'm aware of. Of course, activating it for service is another story. You'd have to be old enough to meet the carrier's requirements for service.

  • Can you purchase the iPhone 3GS with cash?

Just like the subject asks, can you buy an iPhone 3GS with cash, or do you need to use a credit card? I'm selling my 3G on Craigslist (for cash, obviously), and would rather just run to the Apple Store and pay with that and save myself a trip to the ATM.

For new customers I believe they need a credit card. But for existing customers you can give them cash and they will put it on a gift card and then swipe the gift card. For some reason, they have to do it like that.

are you talking about voiceover where the phone is reading things out loud to you? you have to double tap things in voiceover in order to select them. you'll need to go to settings > general > accessibility > and turn off voiceover there

  • Bottom row of the keyboard is not working in a vertical orientation on the iPhone 3Gs. the "slide to unlock" and all keys on the calculator on both orientation works fine. I can use the keyboard on horizontal orientation.

Bottom row of the keyboard is not working in a vertical orientation on the iPhone 3Gs. the "slide to unlock" and all keys on the calculator on both orientation works fine. I can use the keyboard on horizontal orientation. The tabs on bottom of all apps also work fine.
I have already tried holding down the power button and home button for 10 seconds, but no difference.

I've had this problem on and off for the last few weeks (around, but not directly related, to upgrade to 6.1...can't remember if was before or after)....I'm very convinced it's a software problem (as there have been times when the bottom row works perfectly, without any need to "press" differently or anything).
However, it seems to be a rather resilient software issue, as a full restore does not consistently fix it, and it applies to more than just the keyboard; if I open a drawing app, there's definitely a row (about 4mm up from the edge of the screen closest to home button) where I cannot draw.
It's happened 4 times now.  Originally it went away with a restore from backup, then worked for 2 more days.  The second and third times, it went away with a full restore (although I did two full restores in between those two restores that did nothing, so restore didn't consistently fix it)....and it seemed to return in the most random of circumstances.
I paid very close attention to what apps I was using the last time it was working so that I could spot which app, if any, might be causing the issue.  I deleted several apps, I stopped using the games and many other apps.   I only used three apps between it working fine and starting up as a problem again: mail, safari and messages.
I was convinced it was mail, as it happened this morning when I picked up my phone off the bedside table to respond to a new email.  It was working when I went to bed.  I picked up the phone when it buzzed, hit the email app, hit reply and started to type....**** bottom row wasn't working again.
However, tonight I did 2 things....one of them worked because it went back to normal (sorry, I don't know which as I was exasperated and trying a number of things).
The two things I did between a broken keyboard and a working keyboard were:
    1) adding a second keyboard (English(Canada)), changing to this keyboard, and changing back
    2) disabling Siri...and then turning it back on...and then disabling Siri's "Raise to Speak"
In retrospect, I wonder if it actually was the "Raise to Speak" that was putting the phone into a weird state, and might explain why the phone would just "suddenly" start behaving strangely when I picked it up.  Of note, the "raise to speak" hasn't actually triggered Siri to come on in months anyway.
Regardless, the keyboard is back to normal now...and I'm just going to leave "Raise to Speak" off.  I've put the keyboard back to just "English" with no alternates and Siri remains on otherwise without issue.

  • Is the iphone 3gs in the appstore still 50$?

Is the iphone 3gs in the appstore still 50$ and can you buy it without activating it?

As already provided, the 3GS is available via Apple's online store or via AT&T's online store in the U.S., which can be shipped within U.S. borders only. The $49 price is AT&T's subsidized or discounted price which requires signing a two year contract with AT&T before the iPhone is shipped. All that is confirmed and agreed to be the iPhone will be shipped to a billing address for AT&T that will be confirmed by AT&T along with a credit check if you are not an existing AT&T subscriber.

  • I 'm French and i want to buy the iphone 5 unlocked in USA

Hello i'am French and i want to buy the Iphone 5 unlocked in USA. Because i will go to USA. Is it possible ? And how i would do it ?
    Thank You !

Well mate, this is a bit complicated here in North America (being from Europe myself): in the USA you can as of now only purchase phones locked to the three major carriers and they only support the "local" LTE bands. In Canada (where I live) on the other hand, you can purchase unlocked iPhones (if available!) from any Apple Store. However they also only support the North American LTE frequencies, while in Europe they are slightly different. This is the reason, why Apple sells three different iPhone 5: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/09/iphone5-lte-model/.
So to prevent hassle, I would strongly recommend to purchase the iPhone 5 in Europe.
    Good luck!

  • Does the iphone 3gs works well with ios 5

I need to buy an iphone 3gs for my daughter and need to know if it works well with the new IOS 5 or what ?

I have the nearly the same problem.
My problem is exactly that the music will play, but not over the internal loud speakers.
When in plug in the earphones i will hear the music.
Also the loud speakers would be fine, because the loudspeakers would work when i make a hands free phone call.
There must be a bug in the ios 5.1.
I also had a phenomen when I was connected in my local network, I have some airport express, I see these airport express device, the dock connector, but not the internal speaker or the iphone to select as an sound source.
And i tried to make a reset. Doesn't help.
Maybe i try next to set back the phone to manufacturer settings and restore it.

  • Is buying an iPhone 3GS worth it in 2012?

I'm looking to buy an iPhone.  I want one unlocked as I often move abroad, but I don't want to pay the price for an iPhone 4 or 4S.  I don't care about the retina display.  I am also prone to dropping my phone and would most likely smash the back of a 4 or 4S within a week.  Should I buy a 3GS?

I'd agree with xtrmecarbon, your best taking all the above into concideration.
But then you've also got to ask yourself, on 02 for example: (Pay As You Go) iPhone 3GS your looking at £319 for the iPhone itself. From here you could go for a "Pay Monthly Sim" with 02.
If you go for a "12 Month SIM" your find your "Pay Monthly Sim" will cost roughly half the price than "Paying Monthly", as your an O2 Customer for an entire year. so for example i was paying £27 a month, i'm now only paying £15 because i'm with O2 for a year. obviously theirs extra charges if you go over your contract usage, same as all phone contracts.
This would cost you in total: £499 (Including iPhone 3GS, Black, 8GB) if you didn't go over your usage for £15 a month for example, now you could properly say for sure the iPhone 3GS will be around for another year at least, obviously were not 100% certain on that.
Question you've got to ask yourself would you rather save an extra £300 roughly, I'd suggest buying the handset on it's own, and doing a sim only deals, will work out cheaper in the long run..
    Hope this advice helps!
