Where to buy TS-L633P DVD drive

Hey guys, just like the title says, I'm in the market for a new DVD burner for my laptop.
I have a P305D-S8834 Part number PSPD8U-005002
I currently have a TSST Corp. CDDVDW TS-L633P ATA Device (that's what it says in device manager)
But for the life of me I haven't been able to find a site where I can buy one.
I will mention to all that it will burn CDs just fine, will begin to burn DVDs just fine but at about 30% into the burn I get an I/O error and also sometimes get a similar I/O error during a reboot, so I'm pretty sure I need a replacement unless someone can tell me something else to do. I have already updated it's firmware and also updated my BIOS and the problem persists.
Thanks guys for any suggestions!

  • Where can I buy a replacement DVD drive for a mac mini A1347

My mac mini is out of warranty and my toddler stuffed several discs into the drive slot.
Whenever it booted, it made a horrible ratcheting clicking noise, but couldn't eject anything.
I disassembled the entire computer, and pulled all 3 discs out with pliers. After reassembling, the computer works fine, but the DVD drive won't "catch" a disc and pull it in. I'm pretty sure some gear or something has been irreparably damaged, or that I bent it as I was pulling the disc out.
I've been having a difficult time trying to find a replacement drive to order anywhere.
Besides going with an external USB drive, does anyone know of the cheapest option for a replacement slot drive for the mac mini A1347. (AKA "mid 2010", AKA Core 2 Duo DDR3).
I don't want to haul it down to an Apple Store and pay a huge premium to have them diagnose and replace a part that I'm very capable of doing myself.

If your in the US then the ifixit link is a good option, in the UK the following is an option

However when I had to replace a drive in a Mac mini, I bought a bare drive off eBay.

    Hi,
I would like to upgrade from os X 10.5 to snow leopard but I could'nt find the link on the apple store anymore, do you know where can we find it ?
I have a mac book pro which is from 2007 I think :

    memory RAM : 2go

If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

  • Satellite P25-S520 - DVD drive is not working properly

Fix DVD Drive or buy external drive
My DVD drive is not working properly, in fact it may never have been working proper. Recently I tried to back up my PC to a DVD using Norton 360. Norton did not recognize the DVD was present. I then tried writing a text file to a DVD and was unsuccessful. Both DVD+R and DVD-R media were tried (Maxwell 16X).
I could have probably lived with this however, I got a copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10 on a CD and my Toshiba would not recognize it. I tried the CD in my neighbors laptop and it was recognized.
An attempt at updating the driver was also unsuccessful.
I was able to rip a music CD last night so that at least is working correctly.
Does anybody know how I can fix this? The important part is being able to load my new program.
Searching some forums I've found that other people have had problems with the Pioneer drive. If the drive cannot be fixed I am not adverse to buying an external DVD drive. Unfortunately where I live there are no brick-and-mortar stores which sell external drives and I would prefer to avoid the hassle of getting a drive online and discovering that it does not work with my Toshiba. Can anyone suggest an external USB drive which will read and write CDs and DVDs and which is certain to be compatible with my Toshiba?
    Thank you for any help,

Any external USB CD/DVD drive will be compatible with your laptop.
However you wont be able to boot of CD's (Run Recovery for example) if you use an external drive.
So your best option would be to replace the internal drive with a Toshiba drive designed for the laptop. Call an ASP and ask for a quotation.

  • DVD Drive Replacement

So... the situation is I can't use my DVD drive... I don't need any help on how to fix it or what to check since I've already gone through the problem/situation... does anyone know a different way where I can access/use my dvds... such as cd/dvd sharing on a different computer and use it from there... I would like any idea/suggestion... when I say that I mean like EVERYTHING/ANYTHING. I want whatever ideas you have 'cause I don't have any and I really badly want to use my dvds. If all else fails I will buy an external dvd drive or get a dvd replacement...

  • DVD drive issue

When i put a DVD in the drive it does not show on the computer and after few moments self ejects? This does not happen with audio CD, it functions properly. I am running OS X 10.6.8.

This means it is a DVD the drive does not support. Usually, this is because it is a blank disk, or was made at home, (not made by a company, E.G. a 'Harry potter' DVD is made by a company.' The only way to get around this problem is by buying an external dvd drive.

  • Sony IDE DVD Drive not being recognized

    Motherboard : P7n-SLI-FI
                        MS-7380
I recently upgraded my computer a bit with this new motherboard, ram, video cards, power supply. I used my older dvd drive that was working in my last computer. It is currently connected via IDE ribbon, but it does not show up in my computer or when I put in a CD does not auto run.
The unit does have power to it ( The eject button works, light on front blinks a little )
In BIOS I tried changing the IDE primary from AUTO to DVD/CD Drive and it still did not work.
Any suggestions ? Buy a new dvd drive that is SATA ?
    Thanks

Also check the jumpers on the IDE optical drive so as they are set in Master mode as its the only IDE device in the system, assuming that you have a SATA hard drive, or if your hard drive is also an IDE one then you have to set the jumper to run as a Slave mode.

  • IMac DVD drive issues (May 2011 Thunderbolt models)?

I'm going nuts. I picked this machine back up three hours ago from the Apple Store, where they replaced my Optiarc DVD drive on my 27" iMac with a new one (and also the cable).
I'm having the same danged problem. So either there's a rash of bad Optiarc drives out there, or the Apple Store didn't do crap.
Without going into all of the headaches, these are the disk CRC-32's from the "iMac Mac OS X Install DVD" that came with the machine:
    On this machine:             $193BD913
    On the "good" machine:  $85FBE37B
Image made on good:     $85FBE37B (i.e., I made a read-only disk image on the "good" machine of this disk)
Image made on this:       "unable to verify" (twice)
Can somerun please run a CRC32 checksum for me on their May 2011 Thunderbolt iMac DVD and confirm the correct checksum?
I've tried similar DVD's with similar results.
I'm confident I don't have a software conflict, because that's just illogical, and also this machine won't install from the DVD onto a fresh drive (in fact I had to make a USB key on the "good" machine to get this machine to work).
Finally, is there a software method of determining the serial number of the Optiarc drive? System Profiler doesn't show it, and I want to make danged sure that they replace it next time.
    Thanks!

No one can run a checksum for me in Disk Utility? Please?

  • Stuttering, bleeps, and lost DVD drive on Satellite M40-149

    Hi
For a while now the laptop will run ok for around 1 - 2 hours, then all of a sudden the speakers will start making random high pitch very loud distorted bleeps. When this starts, the system starts stuttering. Every 2 seconds or so it will freeze for about 1/4 of a second. All processing freezes - including sound and display. This is annoying but usually a gentle shake sorts it out...
Occasionally when this happens the DVD drive will disappear too, and I need to restart to get it back. Sometimes I need to leave it off for a short while so I think this may be something to do with overheating?
Anyway, my main problem now is that the DVD drive is very rarely present. I've used some firmware analysis tools and the port connection to the drive is present but the laptop cannot communicate to it. I've thought perhaps updating the DVDs firmware may fix this but I haven't been able to yet.
I couldn't find any previous reports of this. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Or how I can fix it?
If it came to it I'd be happy to buy an external DVD drive, but the presence of the bad connection is interfering with some other tasks I'm doing....
    Thanks,
    David.

LOL :D I have read on many websites that the iTunes software makes troubles and is not fully compatible with Microsoft.
Apple and Microsoft together ?:| nice idea ;)
Thanks for the info dude ;)

  • Trying to install iwork '09 from dvd on new imac with no dvd drive.....iwork is brand new (bought off ebay) in unopened box....I have at my disposal an older imac with dvd drive and a 16GB thumb drive...what is best way to load iwork on the new imac?

bought my mom a new imac this xmas...didn't realize it has no dvd drive....just picked up a new unopened version of iwork '09 for her to use off of ebay....need to get it loaded on the new dvddriveless imac......I have an imac at my house with a drive and a thumb drive i could bring over to her house if I could somehow burn an image of the iwork dvd on the thumb drive...is this possible?  is there a better solution other than buying an external dvd drive?

First use Disk Utilty to make a disk image of the iWork disc on your iMac. Then there are two easy ways to install on your mothers new iMac. One is to copy to your USB thumb drive, visit your mother and install from the thumb drive. The other is to use a free upload and download service like www.wetransfer.com. Upload the .dmg disk image via www.wetransfer.com, then your mother downloads and installs. After installation you'll need to update iWork for Mountain Lion compatibility.

  • Will not boot up from DVD drive

HP pavilion slimline s3200n will recognize the DVD drive but it will not boot up from the drive

    Hi,
Try hitting the escape button from boot up. It normally gives you the boot options where you can select the DVD drive.
If you can't get into the boot options, try getting into the bios with F10 and change boot order options.

  • My optical drive went out. what external dvd drive will work?

My optical drive is going out.  I went to Apple and they suggested I buy an external dvd drive instead of paying $150+ to replace the drive on my MacBook Pro. I bought the Samsung Ultra Portable Slim External DVD drive and it took about 15+minutes for my Mac to even acknowledge it. Then it read the dvd and then my Mac told me it was consuming too much power through the USB and disconnected it. And I could not get it to work after that.  I called Apple Support to find out what drives will work and they told me their USB Superdrive.  I told them I read it won't work with Mac's that already have an optical drive installed, they looked it up and told me I'm correct.  When I asked them what other drives they suggest, they told me they had no idea and I should google it.
    Super frustrated.

Virtually ant external drive should work with your MBP.  I would suggest one with external power so that you do not run into the same problem.
You might try a USB 'Y' connector with the one that you have purchased.  That may allow sufficient power for it to operate.  This is an example:

  • Macbook pro external DVD drive initialization error 70012

This is an answer to my own question and a comment about finding answers to questions on Apple forums.
    The situation
I have a Macbook Pro, late-2009 model. In 2013, the internal DVD or optical drive died. I purchased an Apple external DVD drive to be able to read DVD disks, listen to audio, and watch video content. Because the computer I own was built to read only the internal DVD drive, it did not recognize this new external drive. When I plugged it in, I received an error: A valid DVD drive could not be found [-70012]. Or , or DVD could not be found, initialization error[- 70012].
    The question
Given this situation, my question was, how do I solve DVD initialization error 70012?
    The answer
Since my Apple Care plan had long since expired, before spending time and money at the Apple store to solve this, I decided to look online. After searching general sites and more and more specific sites, I found several posts on forums about my problem. The most helpful of these, with respect to an external DVD drive, was posted on CNET, by Topher Kessler (June 10, 2011 2:24 PM PDT):
    http://www.cnet.com/news/addressing-dvd-player-error-70012-when-using-external-d rives-in-os-x/
The key to his advice was twofold:
    1. Hardware: The Macbook Pro was programmed to recognize the internal DVD/optical drive alone.
    2. Software: The preferences in the Macbook Pro were set to open Apple's DVD Player when a disc is inserted into the drive.
To play audio or video discs on an external drive, the computer needed to be instructed to recognize the external drive, plus appropriate software needed to be opened. Mr. Kessler's advice went from hardware (i.e., get a new internal drive), to software (i.e., use different audio or video software), to operating system (i.e., alter the code in the operating system). Like with Goldie Locks, the first was too expensive, the last was too invasive, but the middle option was just right.
I searched for free software to display audio and video on my external drive and found two that could do the job quite nicely. There are others, but these seemed to be the most recognized and highly rated:
    1. MPlayerX (http://mplayerx.org/download.html)
    2. VLC Media Player (http://download.cnet.com/mac/media-players/?rpp=30)
So, I didn't have to buy an internal DVD drive and I didn't have to alter the code of the operating system. I just needed to download free software, install, and play.
    The points to learn
    1. Computers involve both hardware and software, therefore solutions to computer problems can require fixes to one, the other, or both.
    2. The simplest solution, and the least expensive, is to be preferred over the more complex.
    3. What went wrong for someone else is not necessarily what happened to your computer or software.
    4. What solved someone else's problem may not solve your problem.
    5. Just because nobody has posted information on how to solve your problem doesn't mean there isn't a solution to it.

    Hi Duane,
Thanks for the info! That's some catch-22 for DVD Player... but useful info. I guess I'll just pick up a generic DVD-ROM to replace the drive with.
As to the external drive, do not USB 2.0 cases run at the same speeds at Firewire 400 cases? (the same drive has no issues on other machines for playing dvds... just the lampshade iMac)
