Where to download Airport Utility 5.x

Hi,
I'm trying to get my airport system up to date but when I try to install an update it says I need Airport Utility 5.0. I just surf apple support for an Hour at the least and can't find the **** program. If it's there it's certainly well hidden!
My Airport is an AIrport express and I can't figure out which firware version it is...
If anyone can provide me with the proper link it would be very nice.
Thanks

I'm assuming what started the search was "AirPort Base Station Update 2007-002," which Software Update downloaded for me. At least, that's what started my hour-long search to nowhere.
So, none of the "general fixes, compatibility updates, and security improvements" have any implications for the older Airports? We can't install the patch without Airport Utility 5.0 or later, so I certainly hope so!

need to download airport utility 5.6.  can't find on apple support

You should find it or 5.6.1 at support.apple.com/downloads.
Note that Apple no longer supports its use nor permits us to discuss it here. Your best bet is to search Google.

I have a linksys WRT54G router that we use as a base. I want to use Airplay using Airport Express and hook up my stereo to it. How can i set up my Airport express without a PC/laptop? I just downloaded Airport utility on my iphone and ipad, will that work? And one more thing about the setup, the linksys router shich acts as a base is in a different room as the airport express which i wanted to use for airplay. So I'm hoping to hook up the Airport express via wireless signal. If i can set it up, can someone pls help me out by posting detailed instructions. Thanks so much!

The first message that AirPort Utility will display during the auto setup will be that the Express will be confgured to "extend" the network. When AirPort Utility analyzes the network further, and sees that the Express cannot "extend" the 3rd party network, the next message will indicate that the Express is being configured to "join" the wireless network.
Once the Express is configured, if you later go into AirPort Utility to check the settings under the Wireless tab, you will see that the Wireless Mode is indeed "Join a wireless network".

  • Where has my airport utility window gone ? when I double click on the icon all I get is an image of a globe and a base station with no options to make changes in my airport extreme.

Where has my airport utility window gone? When I double click on the airport utility icon all I get is a picture of a globe and a base station with no further  options available to modify my airport extreme.

Sorry, you lost me on that last post.
    Let's start over again.
Open AirPort Utility on your Mac
Are you asked for a password at this point?  If yes, enter the base station or device password that you used when you originally set up the AirPort router. Depending when you did this originally, you might have been given an option to use the same password as the wireless network. If you were not, then you have a separate password for the base station.
You need that password to be able to access the settings for the AirPort router in AirPort Utility.
If you see a window listing basic information, click Edit in the upper right corner of the window.
If you are asked for a password, you must enter the device password or base station password that you established when you first set up the AirPort router as explained above.
If you forgot the password, a Soft Reset will allow you to go in and reset the base station password.  Might be a good idea to write down that password.
If you are still stuck, then the only option that you have at this point is to perform a Hard Reset to return the settings to factory defaults and then set up the AirPort router again.
If you prefer, you can also do a Factory Default Reset. It's the same as a Hard Reset except for the timing of holding in the reset button.

  • Trying to update airport express by downloading airport utility 5.6 on my macbook pro/lion.  getting error message "version of OS X  on this volume is not supported"  What does it mean?

Trying to update airport express by downloading Airport Utility 5.6 (which it says I need).  When installing I get an error message, "...version of Mac OSX on this volume is not supported."  What does it mean/what do I do?

For OS X Lion, you need to download this version directly from Apple Support Downloads.

  • Need to download airport utility 5.6 on OS X 10.7.5 to work with older base station

need to download airport utility 5.6 on OS X 10.7.5 to work with older base station & airport extreme but install fails

I used Pacifist to install AU 5.6 on Mountain Lion. I think it works for Lion also.

  • HT5022 I've downloaded AirPort Util 5.6, in order to manage my Gen 1 Airport Express. But when I go to mount, it says it can't be installed as version of OSX (latest Mountain Lion) is not supported. Feels like Im back using Windows...

I've downloaded AirPort Util 5.6, in order to manage my Gen 1 Airport Express - because Airport Util 6.0 won't recognise it.
But when I go to mount, it says Airport 5.6 it can't be installed as my version of OSX (latest Mountain Lion) is not supported/does not support on 5.6.
Super unhelpful error messages bringing back memories of using Windows...
Anyone sussed this, or have Apple just fazed out the original Airport Express hardware on the sly?

Generation 1 AirPort Express is Model No A1264. Check the side of your Express to look for the model number there.  AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will configure this model.
More likely, you have an older "b/g" version of the Express. Apple started the "Generation" thing with "n" capable devices.  The Model number of your device is likely either A1084 or A1088. AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion no longer supports these older "b/g" devices.
If you have a Mac there running an earlier version of the operating system, you can use that to configure the Express.
Or, there is is workaround to install AirPort Utility 5,6 for Lion on Mountain Lion. See this article for details:

  • Where to find Airport Utility

I currently have an Airport Express which I'm using with my Macbook running OS10.4.9
Airport Administration Utility 4.2.3 is my current version, but I understand this has been replaced with "Airport Utility", perhaps v5? Does anyone know where to download this current version?
    TIA,
    rich
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The new AirPort Utility v5.0 comes on the CD with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station. The v5.1 update is available via the AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001, but will only install if you already have v5.0 loaded.
    There is a workaround...
    - Download the AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 file from: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportbasestationupdate2007001formac.htm l
    - Double-click AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.dmg to mount and display it's contents.
    - From the AirPortUtilityUpdate window, right-click on "AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.mpkg."
    - Select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
    - In the "AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.mpkg window, double-click on the "Contents" folder to open it.
    - In the "Contents" window, double-click on the "Packages" folder to open it.
    - Right-click on "AirPortUtility.pkg."
    - Select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.
    - In the "AirPortUtility.pkg window, double-click on the "Contents" folder to open it.
    - Double-click on "Archive.pax.gz." This will create a new folder on your Desktop, named "Applications." The AirPort Utility will be inside this new folder. You can copy or move it to your Applications folder.

  • How can I download airport utility for my windows computer?

I have been unable to find the airport utility to download it. I can not, for some reason, get the download window to load. It just sits there with a spinning wheel in the center of the screen. Where can I find the airport utility for the new airport extreme?
    Thank you for your help.

The most recent version of AirPort Utility is AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows
If you are having trouble downloading this, Apple has just introduced a number of new Mac updates, so it is possible that the servers may be temporarily overloaded.

  • Don't dowload airport utility 6.0 if your network is using old tethered airport expresses.   Download   Airport Utility 5.6 instead

Watch  out for the new airport utility software update 6.0 if your   airport express has  any old hardware on it . It will no longer be supported .  Plus it requires Lion  to  work ( Lion is not expensive to buy /download from App Store.)   Good news though is that  Apple has created   5. 6   that can be downloaded  and will still allow you to tether (via  ethernet cables) old  airport express  units.

I just purchased a new computer that runs windows 8 and it doesn't want to recognize the time capsule as an external hard drive (ie doesn't show up under my compter).  I've downloaded and run airport utility, but it seems to have a hard time finding the time capsule...maybe one out of 10 times it will find it.
What's more, when I look under network infrastructure under the control panel, it shows my Broadcom ADSL centurylink Router...so I'm wondering if my modem/router combo is overriding the router function on my timecapsule and the time capsule is not being used as a router...
    Any help much appreciated!

In this case the TC should be in bridge mode.
Win8 is still problematic. Try using ethernet instead of wireless. I think the drivers are poor still and it is well worth having a try via ethernet if you haven't already.
Otherwise you will need to wait for apple to release bonjour for windows 8 and airport utility.. which is not out yet.
Also make sure the windows is set to home, not work or public.. even turn off the firewall.
Open windows explorer and type the TC ip address into the address bar.. (none of which is perhaps the same.. I gave away windows at vista.. shudder)

  • How do I download AirPort Utility 1.3.3

I have and iPad running iOS 6.1.3 and I just bought an AirPort Express.
I went to the support page and it has a link to the 1.3.3 version, but clicking
on the link takes me to the ITunes store which has 1.3.4.  How do I get
    1.3.3?

It won't run because I have iOS 6.1.3 on my iPad.
I have iOS 6.1.3 on my iPad because Apple stopped supporting
sync and backup with my computer with iOS 7 so upgrading
    to iOS 7 is a non-starter.
AirPort 1.3.3 is the version supported on iOS 6.
Apple's support page has a link to AirPort 1.3.3 at
AirPort Utility software and firmware downloads - Apple Support
but it doesn't do what it says, it only points to 1.3.4.
So once again the subject question....

  • Download Airport Utility 5.6 Instatllation failure

I have to use Airport utility 5.6 to configure my base station, when I download 5.6 and try to install it I get:Installation failed The Installer encountered and error that caused the installation to fail Contact software manufacturer for assistance. I am using Lion 10.7.5 with airport utility 6 .3.1 already installed Any ideas have tried several time to re download with no success

There are plenty of methods of installing 5.6 utility but you must manually do it... here is my method.
How to load 5.6 into later Lion & ML
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.

  • Unable to download airport utility 5.6 on Lion

I get a failed instllation notice.

Apple will not allow you to officially install AirPort Utility 5.6 on Lion 10.7.5.
You might be able to install it using the workaround in this post:
