Where to find a good book about J2ME?

I'm a beginner with this and I would like some good documentation to begin with . Where I could find?
Thanks in advance!

My personal favorite is *[MIDP style guide for the Java 2 platform, micro edition|http://books.google.com/books?id=5yttm9znJgYC&printsec=frontcover|book preview here]* by Cynthia Bloch and Annette Wagner

  • Searching for a good book about [Arch Linux]

    Hello friends,
I'm here stuck with Windows 8, making a couple of tests about installing Arch Linux in VMware Workstation, if it succeeds, I'll move to Arch completely. My question is: Is there a good book about Arch (installation, maintenance, best practices, security, and so on)? I tried "Arch Linux Environment set-up How-To", but unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected.
    I'm a little confused about UEFI + GRUB2 + GPT/MBR but I think I'll dominate it soon...
    My system:
    [PROCESSOR] >> Intel® Core™ i7-3840QM (8M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
[GRAPHICS] >> Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 680M GPU With 4GB GDDR5 Video Memory (SLi)
    [RAM] >> 16GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz
    [SSD] >> OCZ Vertex 4 (256GB)
[HDD] >> Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid (750GB)
I wonder in how many seconds the system will boot up...

@op  As others have mentioned, do not seek out knowledge from a book.  There has been quite a few shifts in Archlinux, specifically to uefi and systemd.  There are a few starters for your concern.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … _Interface
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UEFI_Bootloaders
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide/Installation
Other then that, there is the forums and a quick search will land you on a goldmine of knowledge.  Great idea to start it up in a vmware, although it will not require the uefi boot, but it will still get you a bit more familiar with the install process and iron out some basic questions.  Good luck!

  • Looking for a good book about threads

    Hello all,
I am looking for a good book about threads.
I would like something which is both practical, but also provides some theoretical basis.
I am an experienced programmer, with some, but not much, experience with concurrent design.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

I found the "Java Threads" book by Oaks and Wong to be fantastic:

  • Good book about Linux?

    Hi,
I've been using Linux for 5 years or so, always using a graphical desktop.
I know many commands, like ls, sudo, mv, pacman, etc...
I can work with Linux terminal fine when having a graphical browser open that can help me out here and there with what commands exactly to type (copypaste from browser to terminal window actually).
But when I'm in a non graphical Archlinux (or Linux in general), then everything is hard for me. And when something in Archlinux breaks, then I can't fix it. I'm unable on my own to get KDE working after a pacman -Syu if there was something that broke it, for example. I can use irssi and ask help, but that's awkward.
Having to install something without pacman, is always a difficult adventure if the simple "./configure", "make", "make install" doesn't work.
Using the command line tar, zip, and similar commands are hell for me, because they have SO many flags and the simple action of simply uncompressing a file require many far fetched flags.
Also, I see that things like wget and such are very handy and useful, but I don't know them in enough detail.
Also, I can develop the most complex applications you can dream of in C and C++, but I can't write a shell script.
So I hope the above describes somewhat my knowledge level of Linux. There is some knowledge, but not enough.
Given that knowledge level, what could be a good book for me to read and/or to have next to me when working with Linux in a terminal-only environment?
    Thanks!

I really like Linux in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference from O'Reilly. 900+ pages of pure bliss.
    It's here at Amazon.fr:
    http://www.amazon.fr/Linux-Nutshell-Ell … 625&sr=8-1
    and here at Amazon.co.uk:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linux-Nutshell- … 674&sr=8-1
As the title says, it's a reference guide, not a tutorial or instructional guide per se. But for someone who's already been running Linux for a good while, you'd probably find it very useful to have at hand, as I do.
Don't order The Linux Kernel in a Nutshell by mistake, as I did, unless that's your specific area of interest. The covers look very much alike on booksellers' websites, and the less expensive price of the kernel book made me go for it. Fortunately, Amazon has an excellent return policy. (Pardon the free advertising, mods.)

  • What is a good book about Lightroom

Hi ... I am new to Lightroom, and am looking for a good book that covers the program's
operation and use.  I'd appreciate any recommendations y'all might have.  Thanks!
    /kim
PS: Sorry if this is an FAQ, but the search function isn't working, and I did not see any
           recommendations in the FAQ thread.

I think one of the major problems I have with Kelby's books is that he doesn't explain much about what his photos are showing you.  This is a major drawback to his book, as his text ends up being totally misleading because he is assuming things about your setup.
For example, we get people on here who claim Kelby recommends all images in a single directory.
We got that enough that I went and actually read that section of his book, to see what he is really doing.
Turns out he recommends what most of us do here, using a *top-level* directory to hold all of your folders in date orgainzed format.  But, since he is using the default LR date organiztion, it only shows up in his image captures of what he is doing, it doesnt' showup in his text.  Thus people read that to mean all images in a single folder, which causes all sorts of problems as they go forward.
    Because of those types of lazy misunderstandings, I can not and do not recommend his books, even if I thought they were better than Martin's, which I don't. :}
    Cheers!

  • Any good book about LabIVEW for IMAQ Vision?

I am very new to IMAQ vision (LabVIEW). I tried to read all of the tutorial on the NI web page, but it doesn't help that much. Is there any book recommended for the beginner (LabVIEW for IMAQ)? What I have to do with IMAQ is to write a program to measure distance, identification part whether it's present or absent, and measure angles.

If you're new to IMAQ Vision, your best bet is to take one of the Machine Vision and Image Acquisition courses offered through National Instruments. Go to www.ni.com/custed to find a course being offered in your area. Another option is to use Vision Builder which is a great tool for beginners because it lets you test most of the functions and prototype your application. When you're done, Vision Builder will build the LabVIEW code for you. If all else fails, go to www.ni.com/ask and email us some example images. We might be able to build some example programs for you. (no promises, though)

  • Where can I find a general information about settings of the PCI-IMAQ-1411 board?

There is many attributes in the properties dialog of the IMAQ channel in the M&A Explorer. For example Mode (Frame/Field), Lock speed (Slow/Normal/Fast/Very Fast), Luma Comb (Disabled/Enabled). Where can I find a comprehensible description of them?

The starting point is the help file. There is a section with the title: "Setting IMAQ Device and Camera Properties". That section provide some explanations about the properties and options to configure your IMAQ cameras.
You can obtain more information by visiting the Developer Zone at the NI website. Look for the Vision section at the Resource Library. The exact address is:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzone.nsf/webproducts/7d6146d8c67a832e862567f1006c29ee?opendocument
You will find explanations, tutorials and examples about different topics in vision, including configuration descriptions.
Finally, a full understanding of some properties requires knowledge about vision and image processing. A good book about Image Processing in general should be of benefit.

  • Where can download a good tutorial of OOP ?

I need a simple tutorial or reference guide, where can find one ?.
    thanks

    1. Pick a language.
    2. Then find a good book on the language.
    3. Write code. Read the book and reflect on your code to date. Goto 3.
With this approach, you will learn both the OO aspects of the language, and the idioms of the language. You can learn OO from one language, but a second is useful - it allows you to distingish (by experience) the difference between a language feature and an OO feature.
So, if Java is your bag, may I suggest Effective Java - Programming Language Guide, by Joshua Bloch and Practical Java - Programming Language Guide, by Peter Haggar.
If its C++, the the Scott Meyers' Effective C++ books are excellent.
And for more on OOP, but with samples in Java, checkout Refactoring by Martin Fowler - this is full of code samples, and describes what is good and what is bad about them - patterns and antipatterns. It will also show you that what is good OOP for one situation is bad for another.
I do not know of any online tutorial, simply because I have not looked and I like to hold a book. But you could search on google or cetus-links.
