  • Best Practice Building Block Library not accessible in Firefox

    Hello SAP Documentation Team,
    I've just get aware of the <a href="http://help.sap.com/bp_bblibrary/500/BBlibrary_start.htm">Best Practice Building Block Library</a>. Unfortunately it can't be used with Firefox 1.5.0.4 because of a script error. I see the dropdown lists but when I select for example Country "Germany" nothing happens. In IE it works perfect.

    Hope that this will change with later Best Practice releases.

  • Where to find best practices for tuning data warehouse ETL queries?

    Hi Everybody,
    Where can I find some good educational material on tuning ETL procedures for a data warehouse environment?  Everything I've found on the web regarding query tuning seems to be geared only toward OLTP systems.  (For example, most of our ETL
    queries don't use a WHERE statement, so the vast majority of searches are table scans and index scans, whereas most index tuning sites are striving for index seeks.)
    I have read Microsoft's "Best Practices for Data Warehousing with SQL Server 2008R2," but I was only able to glean a few helpful hints that don't also apply to OLTP systems:
    often better to recompile stored procedure query plans in order to eliminate variances introduced by parameter sniffing (i.e., better to use the right plan than to save a few seconds and use a cached plan SOMETIMES);
    partition tables that are larger than 50 GB;
    use minimal logging to load data precisely where you want it as fast as possible;
    often better to disable non-clustered indexes before inserting a large number of rows and then rebuild them immdiately afterward (sometimes even for clustered indexes, but test first);
    rebuild statistics after every load of a table.
    But I still feel like I'm missing some very crucial concepts for performant ETL development.
    BTW, our office uses SSIS, but only as a glorified stored procedure execution manager, so I'm not looking for SSIS ETL best practices.  Except for a few packages that pull from source systems, the majority of our SSIS packages consist of numerous "Execute
    SQL" tasks.
    Thanks, and any best practices you could include here would be greatly appreciated.

  • Where is Forms Best Practices guide?

    I'm looking for
    Best practices when Developing Applications with Forms 10gR2
    which is listed on the documentation tab, here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/documentation/techlisting10gr2-087608.html
    But the link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/documentation/ssLINK/164049

    Looking through the forums threads and googling, I find references to its being located here:

    but that redirects back to the home page.
    Anyone know where I can find it?

    I believe the doc for which you are search is here:

  • Where is the best practice to have the controlling logic in scenarios....

    The following steps need to executed in the system:
    1> Need to store the data that User has selected in the screens that he has visited till now (selecting data is not part of this step 1 for now); focus of step 1 is there is some data which needs to be stored in session.
    2> After keeping data in session, the system needs to check and if current user's account is Not created then force the user to create user account;
    3> The system then checks If user is Not logged in. If not forces the user to login;
    4> Process the data that has been searched and selected in step 1;
    EJBs are used for providing the solution;
    Now, the problem i have been having is where should the controlling logic (basically the block which invokes the above 4 steps in sequence) needs to be sitting?
    Should it be in the EJB tier or WEB tier?
    If we decide to store the data in the session bean, Should data get stored in session bean and then should control go back to front controller servlet in web tier;
    Should the enclosing function making checks for steps 2 and 3 and followed by invoking the step 4 be in Front controller servlet or in business delegate or in stateful session bean?
    Any thoughts or any useful links to let me know what is feasible / not feasible.
    I mean, whether such controlling logic which requires ui to be brought up and then control come back can never be sitting in session bean -- is feasible or not.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Best practice building custom navigation menu

    Greetings to the community!
    Now there are different ways to build a navigation with APEX. 1) the default functionalities, 2) using JS-pugins, maybe others, I dont know of.
    3) I have now build one via html generated in a stored function, based on table-data, output with htp.p(functionHTMLMenu); in an pl/sql-region and formatted with css, according to the common html markup: <ul><li><a...>text</a></li>...</ul>. ...nothing special Is this a good practice? - Considering other functionalities that apex may offer?
    I have recently read on Ask Tom, that he woudlnt use htp.p nowadays. I have looked around a lot for a description on the different htp-functions: .p, .prn, .anchor... and not really found anything usefull. What really are the differenced? (edit: finally found the right documentation ;) )
    Why I dont use the build-in functionalities for navigation? first, I want to style them a bit nicer, and 2nd and more relevant: the generation and selection of the individual navigation items will strongly depend on user access authorisation and will be very flexible.
    So, would you build a navigation as descriped above, sending a fat varchar2-string into the page? Or are there more elegant ways, like using page-zero proccesses, app-list-items or the like (which I am not so familiar with as of yet).
    Thanks for any advice and tips,
    so long,

    Dynamic lists are the obvious "more elegant way" you're apparently not aware of. Custom list templates enable them to be styled however you want. However you've failed to provide the APEX version you are using, so we don't know if this 4.1 feature is available to you. If not, then a report with a custom template is a close approximation in earlier versions.
    Given suitably complex requirements I have no problem with using a PL/SQL region to generate navigation options output using <tt>htp.p</tt>. I think you're safe in that this would be covered by TK's +"...every now and then in a snippet of code in APEX maybe..."+ ;-)
    Whether list, report or PL/SQL, also consider if caching the region to improve performance is possible.

  • Transaction PPOME - Building Block

    Hi
    I'm following Best Practice Building Block J12 for setting up a PS system.
    None of the documents I've encountered have reference to Transaction PPOME for the Organizational Model, I would have expected "J02" to have this.

  • Best Practices for E-Commerce

    Hi Experts,
    I was wondering if anybody has experience in installing and configuring SAP Best Practices for E-Commerce. I have downloaded and installed the ADD-ONs but when trying to configure IPC and webshop via XCM http://<server>:<port>/isauseradm/admin/xcm/init.do I am getting a 404 error "URL or resource not found".
    Who knows what component I am missing and can put me in the right direction!

    I am not sure I understand your question.
    If you are using E-Commerce with CRM2007 (CRM6), not ERP, then use the [Best Practices Building Blocks|http://help.sap.com/bp%5Fcrmv12007/CRM%5FDE/html/] -> Technical Information -> Building Block Library
    However, there STILL is not a BP for E-Commerce with CRM though.

  • XSERVE 10.4.7 failed start up errors best practice/recomnd Prev Maintenan?

    I have an Xserve, RAID 5 OS volume and data volumes stripped across the RAID 5 (with parity). The only other piece of software is Dantz Retrospect. Preventive maintenance was run 5/30 - which I do in this order. Reboot, see if server comes up clean, run disk warrior, repair permissions (both OS/Data volumes). All was clean - server has been up and running fine until 8/18. Rebooted server - was going to run disk warrior - server did hang on reboot and would not restart. Powered down hard, tried again - No good. Ran Disk Warrior produced a report but didn't make any changes - and it gave me a ton of errors stating: OS files chown/egripm tar grep etc - and dozens of other files under the /usr/bin sbin and usr/shared where gone - the errors were "the link file no longer points to the original file tigeros/usr/bin". It is almost as if I lost the entire File system - all data was intact on data volume. The server is on a UPS but did not have powerchute installed at the time. It has been perfectly stable. Nothing additional was installed . The only thing I can think of is power loss that exceeded the run time of the UPS and dropped the server like a rock - blowing out the file system. Any ideas/thoughts?
    I reinstalled the OS - and run disk tools - which shows all is ok - is that proof enough that the OS remains intact and safe for a reboot?
    What could have gone wrong?
    What is recommended for preventive maintenance on 10.4.7 running on an Xserve? I can't afford to have this reoccur if I can at all help - that is why I am generally pro-active with Preventive Maintenance.
    Alsoft - recommends that I run their product every 3-4 weeks to prevent such problems. Should I shy away from third party tools?
    Thank you all!
    SGM

    I really want to thank you for your response and sharing with me some really very good advice and info! I believe I need to clarify something. I am a server admin have 5 certs in Novell, Windows and Cisco certified – and I do not just go around rebooting servers. I am however, trying (and your response is quite helpful), to find best practices for working with XServe and Tiger Server. I have a bit of experience with many other Oss – and don’t normally recommend rebooting for the heck of it. I use to have Novell boxes literally up for years.
    My intention is to establish a standardized means of keeping OSX servers running with as few problems as possible. On this particular Xserve, I was to bring it down (because it was recommended to be a good practice), to do PM. By Preventive Maintenance, I did mean Disk Warrior/repair permissions. Now, before I would just run any disk utility (and yes – until now), I would reach for Disk Warrior for the reason that their tech support is usually quite good. I have spoken with them since the first release of their product – and perhaps (although not the best idea), trusted their recommendations.
    So – I would reboot the server BEFORE doing any PM, only to make sure and prove that the server comes up clean so I wouldn’t be blamed for it, if it did not come up clean due to performing maintenance. That being said, I did run Disk Warrior back around 5/30/06 and I really had very few errors, the server did come up fine. As mentioned, it was on a UPS (less the PowerChute software at the time).
    What I found was upon reboot – the server would not reboot. I proceeded to boot from the OS install CD, Disk Tools said it could not repair the problem. Secondly, I went to Disk Warrior – to run a report which did show that usr/bin and sbin contents were gone. The data volume was completely intact. So my first concern or question would be – what on earth could have caused this – a power fluctuation or the server possibly exceeding the run time – and dropping like a rock? Have you ever seen this? I just find I sleep better when I know the cause.
    Now, if I didn’t reboot to do the Preventive Maintenance – I never would have known that this file system was affected, and at the most inopportune time, I could have been called with the server being down.
    My goal is to keep this server up and running and as problem free and possible. It seems as if you have far more experience with this platform than I, and will absolutely implement your suggestions, and review your recommendations and suggested readings. I pride myself on the work I do, and I clearly need to bring my mastery of this OS up to a higher level. Books/other recommendations are welcome.
    So to reiterate – watch my logs – any specific logs under var/log? I even thought perhaps a bad block could have been the cause – my apologies, I always like to know the cause of a problem. I did reinstall the OS to the TigerOS Volume which did erase that volume – but did not zero all data. As mentioned this machine is RAID 5 three drives both the OS and Data Partitions are across all three drives. I would have preferred if the hardware and budget supported it, to mirror the OS and use RAID 5 for data.
    Is there a log that reports disk errors? You say repair permissions when you have a specific error – what specific OS Volume error would repairing permissions actually resolve?
    As mentioned, I want to prevent what had happened – I am NOT in the habit of rebooting servers, not even Windows servers with any great frequency. I have several Windows servers that prior to Microsoft’s patch Tuesday – were up for 9-12 months – even longer! If it wasn’t for “Patch Tuesday” the Windows servers would be up far longer!
    So then – in a nutshell – you are suggesting other than checking logs – there really isn’t a need to do Preventive Maintenance on an Xserve running 10.4.7? Would the log files have shown me that I had problems (still wondering what the cause was – would love your opinion), with files under usr/bin and sbin? What about running disk tools periodically from within the OS to Verify the integrity of the OS partition – no harm doing this – correct? If it shows no errors – is it safe to assume that I should be able to reboot?
    I can’t thank you enough for your time, and sharing this info with me. Mt goal is to keep this server running and as stable and as trouble-free as possible, just seeking to fill the voids of experience I have with this particular OS. I will try your recommendation for creating an image (on a test box first), but what about Super Duper (I believe it is called)? I do have to bring the box down to create the images.
    I can’t thank you enough
    Sincerely
    Be well
    Mac OS X (10.3.8)

  • What are the required building blocks to place part of an application into the cloud?

    Hi there,
    I have a Windows client/server business management/accounting application written in VBA/Access.
    I am thinking of making small parts of the application available in the cloud, for example QUOTES.
    First of all, I am not sure if this forum is the right place to ask these questions!
    I would like users to be able to access their quotes via tabled or smart phone and be able to add or modify records.
    I am interested to find out what building blocks are required to achieve this.
    My initial thoughts are as follows:
    The user exports their quotes from the application (A) in XML format
    The user uploads the XML data into SQL server on my website (?)
    The user logs into a mobile app (B) that is connected to the SQL server
    The user adds/modifies records in app (B)
    The user then downloads their records in XML format from SQL server from my website (?)
    The XML data is read and updated in application (A)
    In terms of the SQL server I was also wondering if each user should have their own database or whether all users should use the same table QUOTES for example?
    Any hints or tips would be really appreciated and many thanks in advance...
    Have a wonderful day...
    Kind regards,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    I’m afraid that it is not the correct forum for this issue, since this forum is to discuss the VS IDE issue.
    I have a Windows client/server business management/accounting application written in VBA/Access.
    Just to make this issue clearly, is it related to the Office development like this MSDN document?
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee814735(v=office.14).aspx
    If it is related to the Office development, I suggest you post this issue to the
    Office development forum like this thread “How
    to move an Access App with VBA to the Cloud w/o re-coding? Amazon Web Services Virtual Machine ? Or What ?”.
    If not, please feel free to let me know, I will help you find the correct forum for this issue.
