my powermac G3 b/w only has a cd drive, and I want to upgrade it to tiger. Where can I find it on cd?

You need a bootable external firewire dvd drive. I cobbled together an external hd enclusure with a dvd drive.
In the day, you had to buy the dvd version of tiger then send the dvd back to apple who would return you cds for a fee.

Where are services stored in Tiger?

When I drag down an application's menu, particularly Finder, I see a list of 31 services (in some applications some services are greyed out). Many are for third party applications I rarely use. I have looked in:
~/Library/Services --does not exist
/System/Library/Services --has a couple of Apple system services but there's a lot more such as Script Editor which are not there.
/Library/Services --contains a single third party service
Where were services stored in Tiger OS and how do I remove ones I am not likely to use such as ClamXAV? I poked around the insides of an application package or two and didn't see them listed there (at least not obviously).

I still don't know where they are stored, some web site had mention of launchd. but I did find this:

I kind of suspect services are hidden in the applications themselves, probably under some cryptic identifier. I have a few instances of multiple copies of an application on my computer and I noticed when using ServiceScrubber (SS) it sometimes flagged multiple occurrences of a service. In addition when I ran SS it took a bit of time to scan for services which makes me suspect it was doing a general drive scan of my multiple drives (some extra application copies are on different drives) rather than taking a look at just one or two targeted Services folders.
It seems Apple made services a lot more up-front and manageable post Leopard (kind of a very strange thing for Apple to do given its post-Tiger trend towards its current mother-knows-best attitude). There was mention of a "Services Manager" utility that I saw mentioned on a site dating from 2003 which suggested it was a very early utility but I could only find solid mention of it in a Mountain Lion or something version. It seems it wasn't a very well advertised utility (kind of like all the goodies tucked away in Core Services folder) and was maybe something you had to download specially, and has now vanished for good into the dark pits of edgesuite.

Help! where to find universal automator actions?

I've been playing around with Automator lately and suddenly crashed into an error after downloading a new action (create new mail message) from: http://automator.us/
It's saying it won't work because it's not universal.
Does anyone know where to find any versions of these can be found that are universal? I can't believe there are no upgraded versions available after all this time.
My mac is running Snow Leopard (hence posting here) and it's 32 bit only. I can't upgrade to Lion, so even if any are in the app store that doesn't help much. For those of us that are unable (or unwilling) to upgrade, I find removing all download links except to the app store a very bad decision in the customer service department. I used to be able to find such things there.

It depends on the developer. A lot of the actions are on smaller sites or are not regularly updated, and the early versions on your referenced site were written for 10.4 Tiger. There is already a New Mail Message action included in the default Automator installation, but actions can still be found at the bigger download sites such as cnet or macupdate - actions at http://www.automatedworkflows.com/ are also well maintained.

You need a DATA service enabled by your carrier to be able to send e-mail via thier network. Do you have a data plan with your carrier ? If so - is it enabled ?
Can you access internet thru your network (not wifi) ?

Do you wish that at all customer site all concern involved in implemtation do the same work ?
I believe ERP is meant for single entry system, and it should be true for implementation also, why to invest man hours for the same task ?
I expect it standard reports should be released by SAP, so that speed of implementation improve, we have more nos. of satisfied customers.
customised reports is all together different and it is understood that it is needed to be developed after study the exact requirement.

Sounds like you do have an Exchange account setup on your phone. Have a Gmail or Hotmail account? They can both be setup as Exchange accounts. Have a work email account?

Re-installed itunes; now how do I tell the program where to find music on my external?

I just uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. I keep my files on an external hard drive--but in 2 different folders on the same hard drive. Problems: 1. Itunes does not know where to find the files. I get a little exclamation point next to all the songs. 2. Only songs from one of the two locations show up at all.
Less important, though still of interest to me: Only some of my playlists are showing up as well. I think I had two different itunes library .xml files before. And it is looking at the older of the two. Is that possible?

It's in your Keychain on the computer you usually use to connect to your network - the "kind" will be "AirPort Network Password".
Your Keychain can be opened by using the Keychain Access program. It is in your Utilities Folder.
Open Keychain Access, and type airport in the search field. You will see a number of entries. Choose the one with the name of your wireless network, open it, and check the box next to "show password". Before it reveals itself you will be asked for your login password - the one you use to log in to your MacBook.
The network password will appear in the box.
Quit Keychain Access.

Since the late 2009 iMacs came out, replacing the hard drive has caused the internal Hard Drive Fan to start running at around 6000RPM.
This is due to Apple replacing the external Hard Drive temperature sensor with a proprietary firmware and using the drives internal sensor.
Replacement drives do not contain the firmware to deliver temperature data on the temperature sensor cable.
When the iMac does not receive a good signal from the hard drive it puts the fan at full speed to protect the drive.
If you replace your drive, your iMac will initially seem fine, but soon the fan will begin to speed up to full speed. Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) will have a temporary effect, but again the fan will speed up.
Fixes people have used in the past included:
Using smcFanControl and the terminal to set a MAX speed for the fan and writing scripts to start this after every sleep/restart.
Shorting the temperature sensor cable (Not a possibility on 2011 iMacs) this tricks the iMac into thinking the drives temperature is very low, hence slow fan speed.
Both these fixes are less then perfect and leave the drive in a dangerous situation with no protection from overheating.
Another option people try is other Fan Control software. These programs will not work for this particular issue as they often only control the base speed, and if they do control the fans actual speed they rely on the temperature reported by the sensor which is now incorrect.
HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive.
It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating

When I got this new PC I did a complete audit. I found that this was kenotify.exe at startup.
Different info I found on the internet say it is essential to the functioning of FN.
I also noticed that when I press the FN apuie it generates no code. I have a small java script code returns me all the keys pressed on the keyboard.
I am surprised that the FN will work for you while you do not have this executable.

See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. Hopefully you have a more recent library file that you can restore.
