Where to get a mac os x install DVD for my 12-inch powerbook G4 1.33 GHz

Hello All!
I purchased a 12-inch PB a while ago and since then I lost my Mac OS install Discs (1 and 2). And now I need to reinstall everything because my PB won't start. Does anybody know where I could get that? I looked into the Support and Download sections of the Apple site, but didn't find anything.
I know that I must use the exact disc that goes with the 12-inch PB, so I can't use my MBP install DVDs...HELP PLEASE! I need this 12-inch PB for my girlfriend...
Thanks!
BEn

Ben:
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I suggest that you call Apple Customer Relations and explain your situation. Have your computer Serial number handy. They will ship you the install disks. There is a service fee, or about $60, I think.
Please post back with questions or an update on your progress.
Cheers

I don't think you can actually download the install DVD. If you call Apple they can send you the install DVD for a nominal fee +S&H. You will need to provide them with the serial number for your Mac to see if it's registered to you.

The first step in Upgrading... is to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
    Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
Snow Leopard Tech Specs  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

  • Unable to use Mac OS X Install DVD

My iMac came with Mac OS X Install DVD, but since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion through the Apple App Store and have made a bootable USB. So after formatting my HDD I'm unable to boot from the USB or the DVD. When prompt to select "where you want to install OS X" from the Install OS X menu I am unable to select the device (This disk doesn’t use the GUID Partition Table Scheme), Also I have tried using the factory DVDs but nothing happens, after loading the DVD and holding down the "Option Key" (Alt) the DVD then gets ejected. I have run out of ways to correct this problem, and I have sold this computer online and need to ship soon, and your immediate response is greatly appreciated!

  • Mac OS X Install DVD & Applications Install DVD?

I wanted to swipe my computer clean of everything and was told using the Mac OS X Install DVD & Applications Install DVD would delete everything and reinstall everything... I thought it did until I went to do a software update and while installing the updates it said that they could not be validated and I should contact the software manufacturer. This has never happened to me before, so I assume that something didn't install properly from the Mac OS X Install DVD & Applications Install DVD. I've been told by numerous people to get new disks and reinstall again and everything will be fine, however I don't know where to get them. Any suggestions?

those dvd's are just required if you plan to reinstall your operating system and included applications. Keep them in a safe place, but there's no need to use as of now.

  • I have forgotten my administrator password and can't find my Mac OS X Install Dvd..what can I do?

I have forgotten my administrator password and can't find my Mac OS X Install Dvd to reset it, what can I do?

    OK, try this:
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/08/10/forgot-mac-password-how-to-reset-mac-password/
Be very very careful if you decide to use Terminal. Even a small typing error can cause a disaster. And terminal commands must be typed exactly as shown, including spaces.
    Good luck.
p.s. Your Apple ID and password - different from the computer log in password - are what you used to get to this discussion.

I lost my  install dvd for my Macbook pro 17" 2.53 i5. How can I get that?

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee.
You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html  Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

  • Why can't I get the Mac to accept a dvd which it did yesterday evening?

Why can't I get the Mac to accept a dvd to play which it did yesterday evening?

    Hi a brody,
It's pretty well documented. Here's a Wikipedia article on the topic. Tons of other links to follow.
The drives themselves weren't damaged (by trying to do something like write to the drive's firmware), but the rootkit was installed on any computer you put a loaded disk in.
I had a couple of legally purchased CDs from that era, and they never played right. They would skip, stall and even spontaneously eject. And this was in various music CD players (home player, car), which the rootkit wasn't supposed to affect.

  • How to recover I photos from hard drive?  I was told by Apple tech to reinstall my MAC OS X Install DVD, after doing so all of my data has been wiped out.

I had an issue with my Mac and called Apple the tech told me to reinstall my MAC OS X Install DVD.  I specifically asked if I needed to do a back up before doing so, I was told that it would not be necessary none of my data would be lost.  After installation everything was wiped out.  I am most concerned about retrieving my I photos.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

You did not do a reinstall but rather an Erase and Install. If you don't have a backup, which you should have already had, then you need to see the following:
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as MAC Data Recovery, Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.

  • After i ran the installer program to reset to factory settings, in the Disk Utility menu there is no hard drive listed.  How do I properly install the OS?  On the left hand side it lists: 250.06 GB Hitachi HTSS..., Mac OS X Install DVD, HL-DT-ST DVDRW G2

The open window says, "Mav OS Install DVD" when I choose Disk Utilities.  The options listed on left are: 250.06 GB Hitachi HTSS..., Mac OS X Install DVD, HT-DT-ST DVDRW G2 3N and Mac OS X Install DVD.  How do I install the program on the hard drive?  This computer was given to me by a friend and I was trying to restore it to factory settings.  Thanks!!

You want to boot from the Install DVD and install OSX on the Hitachi drive.

Perian 1.2.3 *should* work for both QuickTime & and QTX in Mountain Lion. Regardless of the filetype container, whether it is a Matroska (.mkv) or a .mov. As to the actual encoding of the file (h264, .mp2, whatever..) I have found most play, even older formats.
Even though it's no longer supported and is a dead project, it works just fine. It will load as a System Preference file and adds to the Other category in them.
I think in 10.8 you've still got support for QTX so it may work with that. (in Mavericks, it only works for QT7)
If not, just run QuickTime 7.6.6.

If no luck there, you could also try VLC at http://www.videolan.org

  • MacBook Pro 7,1 won't boot Mac OS X Install DVD

I recently replaced the standard hard drive that came with my MacBook Pro 7,1 with a SSD and when I try to install the original Mac OS X Install DVD (version 10.6.3)  that came with the computer, the drives spins up, and the grey screen with the spinning city circle comes up and the spinning circle eventually freezes and doesn't work past that point (waited at least 30 mins) minus a hard shutdown.
I have reset the SMC, zapped the Pram, tried doing an online install from disk 2, ran the apple hardware test (no problems) held down the option key and booted to the disk from there! Nothing works (and I have installed OS X from a clean SSD on other computers.
    Please help!!
    Thanks!!!

Did you prepare the new SSD?
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    Now try installing Snow Leopard.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that you are looking for your USB drive in the correct place. To do it, first connect the USB drive. Then, open a Finder window (press the left icon of Dock) and choose your USB drive on the Finder sidebar, under "Devices". Finally, just copy the documents you need to the internal disk.
If you want to show the USB drive in Desktop, open Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > General, and tick "External drives"
