Furthermore, eMacs can only emulate the Windows environment, whereas Intel CPU Macs including the iMac you have running 10.6.8 can virtualize Windows.  Emulation is a poor man's solution, because software is used to replace functions that normally take place with hardware.  You can use the iMac to do any data conversion before it gets sent back to the eMac over a network.  See my FAQ* regarding Windows on the Mac:

  • After upgrading to Lion can't get Boot Camp to work! Just get "startup dusk cannot be portioned or restored to a single partition"?

After upgrading to Lion can't get Boot Camp to work! Just get "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition". Anytone?

This message, and threads like yours got asked daily for over two years, now it is only a couple times a week!!
Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
    Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition.

  • Help! I am unable to get Boot Camp to recognize my Windows disc; whether I use USB, DVD, CD whatever, I get an error message to insert the Windows Software and wait. HELP please!

Like I said in my headline, I simply cannot get Boot Camp Assistant to recognize my Windows Software, no matter what method I use. I don't know if I'm not making it mountable or what. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Brandon

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Simply skip Boot Camp Assistant and create the Windows partition with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU3.html Select "MS-DOS (FAT)" as "Format", and apply the changes. By security, choose "BOOTCAMP" as the name of the partition.
In fact, the only thing that Boot Camp Assistant does is to help you create the Windows partition and download the Windows support software.
Before creating the partition, open Boot Camp Assistant, tick only the option to download the Windows support software and burn it into a USB drive. You will need it later. Then, make the partition as described above.
Finally, insert the Windows DVD, restart and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Since here, you can follow the Apple's steps > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf Remember to choose the BOOTCAMP partition when the installer asks you to format it.
After installing Windows, insert the USB drive and install the Windows support software

  • Where is my Boot Camp assistant?

I can't find the Boot Camp assistant in the Application/Utilities folder where I was told it was located. Is there somewhere I can download it?

    Hi Wyman,
if your PPC G4 still suits your needs and your needs for running Windows are more basic, you might consider getting a rather in-expensive Windows-PC.
(Gosh, I would have never guessed to propose this anymore )

  • Where are the Boot Camp Drivers?

Running Boot Camp 3.0.4 and it gets to the part about drivers. Download drivers doesn't work and the drivers don't seem to be anywhere on my original Snow Leopard install discs. Anybody have a clue how to proceed from here?

The drivers are on the original disc, not the download.
Boot Windows, insert the disc and run Seup.exe (if it does not Autostart)

  • Where are the Boot Camp Update 3.3 release notes?

I got a prompt on my Windows 7 install about an update. States to go to the boot camp support page for release notes. Went to the boot camp support page and no release notes. Saw link "Boot Camp Software Update 3.3 for Windows" (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1443) and I can download from there but again, it doesn't show what exactly is in it other than "critical bug fixes and hardware support". Then it says for more information to go to the main boot camp support page.
So where the heck do I go to actually SEE what was fixed in the release?!

As far as I can find out, only Apple knows the details about 3.3 .

  • Cannot get Boot Camp drivers (for Windows XP) installed

I've partitioned my Time Machine HD for the 32GB/FAT format of Windows XP/Home Edition w/SP2. The installation of Windows proceeded OK. However, after installing Windows, ejecting the W-Install disc, and inserting my MAC OS X Leopard disc, the "setup.exe" file does not open. If I start up in Windows, I cannot open the Opt. Disc drawer since the BC drivers are not installed; if I insert the OS X disc in the drawer, then restart in Windows, the "setup.exe." file does not open.
Where do I go from here to install the Boot Camp drivers for Windows? These drivers are needed for 'normal' Windows operation, and are required in order to install the Boot Camp update. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi David,
while you are in Windows and have the Leopard DVD inserted, can you access the content of it using the Windows Explorer ?
or maybe this hint on MacOSXHints can help you access the Windows Content of your Leopard DVD while in OSX http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080708145453136
If so, you can try to copy the Windows Content onto a USB Memory Stick and use it to install the drivers.
    Good Luck

  • HT1461 How do I get Boot camp assistant on Leopard 10.5.8?

I want to download Boot Camp Assistant like I need to and I can't figure out how... please help

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you are running OS X 10.5.8, you already have Boot Camp Assistant. Open Finder, choose Applications in the sidebar, go to Utilities folder and double-click Boot Camp Assistant, and follow the steps.
Note that PowerPC-based Macs can't use Boot Camp as they aren't compatible with Windows

  • Can't get Boot Camp to run since updates

I did all the updates as a good Apple user now I find I cannot boot up my Windows disc. When I restart computer holding option key the screen goes white and nothing happens. What should I do?

Something appears to have not installed correctly when the "updates" were installed. Can you tell me which updates did you installed before the issues began? Was Windows already working normally prior to the updates? By the way, which version of windows did you install?
Meanwhile see if you can do the following:
right after you hear the startup sound press and hold the ALT (Option) key until a menu appears on the screen.
It should let you choose between Mac OS and Windows.
Choose Mac OS and press Enter or click the little arrow below it to start into Mac OS.
Once you are in Mac OS choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu and go to Startup Disk. Choose your Mac OS volume there to make your computer auto start from that volume next time.
Close the menu again and you are done.
You can use the Boot Camp assistant to delete your Windows partition, recreate it and reinstall Windows afterwards if the windows installation never worked right in the first place.

  • Boot Camp Problem:Where is that Boot Camp Assistant

I just finished installing window 7 64 bit and put the serial key. (I started up Window 7 for 1st time)(I was able to access both mac and windows)
But when i take a look in my window, i did not find the Boot Camp Assistant(Which is supposed to be in the taskbar)
Can anyone help me with this?
Problem:Can not find boot camp assisstant on the taskbar in Window 7(Which should be, since my friends has it) nor in the control panel.
I also cannot see the Mac Drive for some reason(I used my friend boot camp to referance this)

Bootcamp Assistant is what you used to create the Bootcamp partition. It will not show up in Windows. If you mean the Boocamp Control Panel, did you install the Windows Support software?
You should visit the Bootcamp Forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp

  • When I try to partition my hard drive with boot camp assistant, I get "Boot camp assistant quit unexpectedly"

I am seeing numerous people with the same problem, but I couldn't find any answers.  This is a new macbook Air with all updates installed.  This is a common problem
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000000000003c
I am clueless as to how to find a solution.

I was able to get it to work when downloaded the drivers to an external hard drive formated for windows instead of burning it to my external DVD driver. The partition loaded. The down load failed, but the partion worked.  I had to restart and hold down the option key to change the boot disc to the external DVD drive that had the windows installation disc loaded

  • Satellite L300-1AS - Where to get boot disks?

    Hi,
I have managed to misplace my boot disks for my Satellite L300-1AS, anyone got any idea where i can buy a new one?
    Thanks

Yeah... you can order original disc by toshiba directly but before you do this check if HDD recovery option is available. If yes install OS using this option so you dont need to order recovery disc.

Go to Apple>System Preferences>Network>Advanced>Proxies, uncheck 'Auto Proxy Discovery' and 'Automatic Proxy Configuration'
    Restart and try again.

  • Buying new iMac 3.06 which windows program for boot camp to get

I am buying a iMac 3.06 and their is a deal to get boot camp with several windows options:
Vista, XP versions either standard or premium or pro versions.
I am retired and do not have any need for windows. once in a while someone sends something that I cannot open in e-mail and my grandson has a PC with standard vista.
If it were not a nominal charge I would not even consider it.
Any thoughts about which windows program to go with,
    Greg

Your system and needs sounds like you might want to forgo native dual-boot of Windows and invest in Parallels or Fusion, both are virtual machines so you can run Windows inside OS X, side by side.
Or you might just need a program like OpenOffice, NeoOffice. I'd wait and see if OS X can help you manage files. Or tell us what type of files you need to view. Your iMac comes with iWork which can open some files. You may not need Office for Mac or Windows.
XP tends to be common choice and just 32-bit with SP2 (or later).
